As you know from previous articles on the Jones' Patterns, we have been living within a SeeSaw pattern for a while. This configuration shows as two or more planets opposing another group of planets. This pattern continues through December, except for Dec 7-10 and 20-24 when the Moon creates a "Bucket" influence. Overall, though, the SeeSaw dominates the astrological landscape, and so we continue to learn how to deal with the oppositions or tensions indicated by this polarizing pattern. Where planets oppose in your chart there will be oppositions in your life in the realm of the inner self or in worldly situations or people you must deal with.

by Robert WilkinsonRight now we're in an "old moon," the time just before the New Moon. Usually a time of very low energy, we're all still dealing with
Mercury retrograde and
Mars retrograde, though both of these are beginning to speed up, promising more fulfilling times of clarity and momentum in the near future despite the ongoing geargrind of the Mars square Saturn which is stressing everyone I know. The next few days take it easy, don't give yourself or others too hard a time, and face the future, which will shape itself fairly satisfactorily to the degree you're willing to play it somewhat conservatively and nurture the seeds of the future. These will sprout dramatically in January if you don't pull on them prematurely because they're not growing fast enough for your liking in December. Also remember that since the Solar force is low due to less sunlight in the northern hemisphere, try to compensate through finding ways to celebrate what is working okay, if not ideally, and what has moved you in a different direction that will provide benefits down the road.

Today we'll take a happy birthday look at the horoscope of "the most trusted name in fake news," host of The Daily Show, Mr. Jon Stewart. Originally born as Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, he dropped his last name for all kinds of reasons, though it reverberates to this day through the "Leibo," an award given by his college soccer team to the person who provides the team with the most laughs. And he has actually changed his last name to Stewart, so no, it's not a spelling error. This comedic genius was born on November 28, 1962, in New York City, despite the many bios that have him born in New Jersey, which is where he never grew up despite spending years in the toxic dump capital of the US.
His chart shows he has both Sun and Moon in Sagittarius, as well as Mercury. This is an instinctive joker whose mind is all over the place usually at the same time, friendly and quick and sharply aware of the absurdities and ironies of life. These usually indicate a master wit and a man who can giggle at opportune as well as inopportune moments. He's not merely of two minds about things - he's of many minds about everything, all at once, whose initial insights mean more than his final ones, despite all the lingering vagueness he has to contend with due to knowing more than he can ever put into words.

by Robert WilkinsonThis article is derived from my book "A New Look At Mercury Retrograde," where I extensively chronicle many significant events of past Mercury retrograde periods. During a
Mercury retrograde period, I started to wonder if there was a consistent pattern to events that occur during these periods. I discovered some historic Mercury retrograde events that intrigued me, such as women receiving the right to vote in Utah territory during a Mercury retrograde in 1870, or the great Jonas Salk announcing his breakthrough polio vaccine in 1953. Well-known fugitives are often caught during a Mercury retrograde.

In November we've had numerous element shifts, moving from an imbalance early in the month to a more balanced mix through this 9 week period with many changes in emphasis. November began with 4 Fire planets (inspiration) and 3 Water (feelings, experience), indicating a volatile and emotional time, with Air (communications, ideas) and Earth (practicality) diminished. November 6-21 has been fairly stable, with Fire down a little and Earth up by one, giving us all more groundedness and practicality. The past two weeks we've had to get organized, work, follow through, and decrease heated emotions. Perspiration has resulted in better results than inspiration, with both of these yielding more progress than thinking or socializing. We now enter a period of rapid change, but it'll be less out of balance than what we've been living with up to now.

As we move into the last 10 days of November, we confront several important shifts. The first big one, of course, is that Saturn is about to go stationary retrograde tomorrow, and begin to retrace the steps it's traveled since late August. This retrograde phase will last through early April, and will occur in the span of "Combustion," which may explain why things have been so combustible since Summer.

Often I am asked by friends and clients what the future holds for humanity. While it seems pretty grim right now, there are much better things to come as the century progresses. Dane Rudhyar wrote some things about the century cycle years ago, dividing each century into 4 seasons of 25 years each. He made some very persuasive arguments about why he assigned which season to which quarter century, and also felt that the past few centuries each had a planetary association. If so, the human race is on the bleeding edge of its higher potential once we deal with the inertial residue of past patterns no longer appropriate to who we are and are becoming. The future of humanity and the planet is actually very bright.

Today I'll give a brief overview of what each sign can expect in December 2005. Of course, depending on your rising sign and other factors, these may be modified a little or a lot, and if you know your Ascendant, read that paragraph as well. In fact, you may want to print out your forecast and tape it to your refrigerator, since December will be more important than may be suspected at this point in time. That said, let's take a closer look at what December holds for your sign.

From mi hermano Felipe and our friends at RightsAction, here's the latest update on the effects of Hurricane Stan in Guatemala. "Parts of Guatemala are facing a starvation "timebomb" in the aftermath of Hurricane Stan, ... We suspect that by the end of the year most people's food will have run out. The severity of the hurricane hasn't been fully grasped yet," he said. "Compared to Hurricane Mitch [in 1998], the impact on Guatemala is much worse.... The situation in Guatemala is a timebomb waiting to go off... the fuse is lit." To find out how you can save children's lives, please keep reading.

Since this extraordinary woman looms large on the current political landscape and she recently had a birthday, I thought we could take a new look at this force majure in our nation's government. In this article we'll examine some elements in her astrological chart so we can better understand her personality, and as election 2008 draws closer, we'll revisit her progressions and transits to see what the future holds for this Senator from New York.

This month accents the water sign Scorpio, where we transcend the forms we’ve glimpsed up to now and move deeper into the experience of people and activities. We can concentrate power by purifying ourselves of obsolete or stagnant feelings, and going deeper into our mystery to regenerate what we need to get from here to where we're going. It’s definitely the heart of Autumn, with its focus on harvesting that which is pleasing, socializing and connecting while seeing the end of old forms in our lives. This month is about releasing, letting go, and taking out the old, obsolete waste materials accumulated in the year cycle up to now, to make space for the wintering we are about to go through. The yearly light force is waning, so conserve energy and concentrate on what you really want. Check out your magnetism, follow through as needed, and push through obstacles, including forms of mental slavery.

The Full Moon occurs on November 15, 4:57 pm PST, at 24 degrees Scorpio/Taurus. This challenges us all to bring our realizations into practical, grounded ways of doing our being, and shows that everyone will confront some form of a challenge to transformation. The Sun, or light we can bring out of this coming period, is on a degree of "the power in well-formulated ideas to become actual facts," and we are told it represents "practical inspiration." The down side is that many will be shown their "inability to face a vital challenge," and given that the Moon is on the degree of Mars' stationary retrograde point, there will no doubt be confrontations with some aggressions boiling over, forcing some to defend their sense of mission or life purpose.

From The Magic of Space, for those who haven't read it before (and even if you have!), a thought about who we really are:
You send out to others a radiation of your own Inner Flame -- the Light. No words exist which can exactly express this Inner Flame -- it is one of the most silently apparent of possessions. It travels from heart to heart in its own channel of expression and exchange. You always sense it -- even those sense it who do not acknowledge it with anything better than mental sophistication.

Well, the storm zone I spoke of in this article stretched me and many I know to the max! I had more difficulties to deal with than any time in many years, and while it abated somewhat, we’re all still in the middle of an astrological minefield. Tomorrow Mercury goes retrograde. Read about it at this link. More fun to follow as Uranus goes stationary direct in a few days, always a time of upheaval and major change. Couple that with the on-going triseptile between Saturn and Uranus, and you may expect things to stay very weird for the next few weeks.

While checking out the intersections of fate and free will, one of the greatest ancient spiritual books ever written offers a reminder of some universals all of us go through. These are the inevitable result of our process of evolving as we discover what is really true for us versus what is only conditionally true. Through our challenges and crises, we find “truth” transforming according to our level of awareness and need for greater unconditional understanding freed from fear. The challenges we face and what we learn through crises help us learn to choose, decide, and respond. This affects our future.

In this part two of the article we'll explore more about this phenomenon that occurs three weeks at a time three times a year. At the end of this article I have included a table so you can find out which house(s) this November-December 2005 Mercury retrograde period falls in relative to your Sun or rising sign. Consult
this article to find out how this transit will affect you personally as a result of Mercury retrograding through the houses in your chart. Like all
Mercury retrograde periods, these three weeks offer a chance to reorganize in the areas of our life ruled by Mercury. These are the houses of your chart ruled by Gemini or Virgo, any planets in these signs in your chart, and the house occupied by your natal, progressed, or solar return Mercury.

This article is a brief sketch of several possible ways Mercury retrograde in the different houses of the birthchart could manifest. Obviously there are thousands of ways this influence could manifest based on what houses Mercury rules in the birth chart, what sign(s) and decans it retrogrades through and what aspects it makes, all of which make a huge difference in what manifests and why. Though all of these are important factors, a primary way we can know what's up and how to deal with it is through knowing the house it falls in. By knowing the house(s) affected, we can know the arenas of life we can expect to see “go retrograde,” or the sector of our outer world of affairs on which we will get a new point of view.

This Mercury retrograde period starts November 13 (Nov 14 for EST and points east) and ends December 3 (Dec 4 in Europe and points east). This retrograde moves from 11 Sagittarius back to 25 Scorpio, with the inferior conjunction between Mercury and the Sun occurring November 24 (Nov 25 in east Asia and east) at 3 Sagittarius. The degree is "Two men playing chess," symbolizing a "recreation of a world of manifestation through symbols and intelligence," "the transcendent ritualization of conflict," and the need to focus on what's important and the ability to plan many moves ahead.

The following are three Truths in human life. These truths apply equally to all of us, regardless of time, space, cultural, gender, age, or historical distinctions. For years I've tried to think of another human truth that affects everyone on Earth, without success. If any of you can come up with a fourth truth not derived from one of these three, it’ll be a great launch pad for an interesting discussion. And in the spirit of eternal jocularity, or the Divine Play that the Vedic scholars call "Lela," I’ll even entertain entertaining suggestions. These have been put various ways, they're all pretty simple and straightforward, and they have nothing to do with religion or local belief systems.

As I pointed out in this post, we're in the heart of a huge "storm zone" created by a Grand Fixed Cross that is affecting us all. If you're a sentient being who feels, you have no doubt had some very deep and perhaps conflicted emotions lately. That's a very natural response to what's going on all over the world right now, and not a bad thing as long as you didn't do anything thoughtless, self-destructive, or hurtful to others. And I'm sure none of my readers would do these things, so take heart! The on-going effect of Mars retrograde as part of the Cross is also frustrating to many I've spoken with, who all express how tired they are of the eternal conflicts, stresses and strains it seems like everyone's going through.

I’ve always felt that we take a lot of our curious reality more seriously than we need to. And though I've had my share of ups and downs (like we all have), I also believe that there’s nothing so serious here on Earth that it warrants us being in a non-loving state. We can’t like everything, but we must learn to love our life and the experiences the best we’re able. Since we like pleasure and avoid pain, sometimes it's hard when we have difficult experiences to see what they're helping us to learn. Since the planets in our charts symbolize people in our lives, it is easy to see how as we transmute the negative forms of our planets we change the types of relationships we attract. The element of change itself becomes both a driving force in our shifting ways of being with others and a medium through which we can learn when the challenges and breakthroughs are coming, and by that knowledge we can come out of fear and confusion.

We've just entered what is perhaps the most intense storm zone we've encountered for a long time, so be very, very careful as you surf your way through the next 7 days, which will be as tumultuous as anyone could imagine! If things can fragment, they will. If plans can explode, they will. If you're in a position to get caught between equally stubborn, fixed, opposing trends, you will. Of course, it will liberate many from mired conditions that were very unsatisfactory up to now, and this article will explore some of the forces in play, and how best to move through this "fragmentation bomb."

Mars is the "tripwire" for activity in our charts. During November 2005, it continues on its retrograde path the entire month, moving back over the span it originally traversed between August 11 and September 1, 2005. This range is from 18 Taurus back to 9 Taurus, continuing the slow pace of things and showing us how we need to adjust to a much different "rate of return" for our efforts than we usually experience. Especially during the period from November 19-30, expect things to seem very slow indeed, since Mars will hang out in the area of 9-11 Taurus then and for the rest of the year. The past few weeks we've all been dealing with internalized swirling energies, and working through lessons involving any or all of the following: dealing with passive aggressive people, a much slower rate of getting things done, more piled on our plates at points when we feel we need less, or just a bogged-down feeling like trying to wade through quicksand.
