This week we get to experience the second Lunar Eclipse of 2006 on September 7 at 11:42 am PDT, and 15 days later we experience the second Solar Eclipse of the year at 30 degrees of Virgo just before the Autumnal Equinox at 9:04 pm PDT. Without doubt this month shows all are finishing up our education or training in some way, and both eclipses will shut some old ways of life down forever, leaving us space to embrace the new that is already prepared for us exactly mirroring what we have prepared for up to now.
Inevitably, eclipses are related to others that came before them in some significant ways showing us how some elements of our life are shut down, clearing the way for other things. The March 2006 Lunar eclipse effect can be found at this link, while the March 2006 Solar Eclipse effect can be found here, with another article here.
I hinted about some things in these Autumn 2006 eclipses in this article titled The Edge of Major Changes - things are about to get even weirder, when I stated the Lunar Eclipse will fall near the Pluto stationary direct point and include the Sun opposition Uranus sextile Jupiter occurring now. To remind you,
... definitely expect some unexpected events to revolutionize your life. For those pitting their little will against the Higher Law or the greater evolutionary trend, there will of course be crashes through abrupt and unexpected explosions.
I also mentioned another crucial factor in the Lunar Eclipse is Mars' position at 30 degrees of Virgo, "An emergency call frees householder from routine duty," indicating that
September will help those who have trained and prepared to escape from "a narrow destiny," We can do this through being willing to rise to some task or duty, and be joyous in "enlisting in a task which broadens the life horizon." The other factor besides the Mars changing signs and Moon conjunct Uranus at the (Lunar) eclipse is the Mercury square Pluto, which will spin out those who are negatively oriented in their perceptions and interpretations, and bring about needed catharses to purify us from old corrupt attitudes and practices.
This is important since the Solar Eclipse in September 2006 falls at 30 Virgo, the exact degree of Mars at the Lunar Eclipse, so expect the Lunar Eclipse to set some Mars affairs into motion that will either a) be shut down forever after the Solar Eclipse, or b) activate after the Solar Eclipse in ways that in fact will yield the results I spoke of in the last paragraph. It is very interesting that the eclipses this month fall at the 15th and 30th degrees of Virgo, both said to be the fulfillment of that sector of the sign.
The Lunar Eclipse falls at 15 Virgo-Pisces, indicating the fulfillment of a form of culture that will express itself in a form of rehearsal and preparation for taking the training out into the world. The Solar Eclipse falls at 30 Virgo, which shows that by late September we shall all stand on the threshold of a new life to be initiated immediately after the Solar Eclipse, so get ready for major changes!
From the NASA site: Partial Lunar Eclipse of September 07
The second lunar eclipse of the year is a rather small partial eclipse. The penumbral phase begins at 16:42 UT, but most observers will not be able to visually detect the faint shadow until about 17:30 UT. A timetable for the major phases of the eclipse is as follows: Penumbral Eclipse Begins 16:42:23 UT - Partial Eclipse Begins 8:05:03 UT - Greatest Eclipse 18:51:21 UT - Partial Eclipse Ends 19:37:41 UT - Penumbral Eclipse Ends 21:00:20 UT.
At the instant of greatest eclipse (18:51 UT), the Moon will stand near the zenith for observers in the central Indian Ocean...The event is best seen from Africa, Asia, Australia and Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, none of the eclipse is visible from North America.
From Space.com, we read about the Lunar Eclipse that
Unfortunately, North Americans will be completely shut out of this event, as it will be happening during the daytime when the Moon is below the horizon. This eclipse will be primarily visible from western Australia, central Asia, and the eastern half of Africa. Europe will see the Moon rise while in eclipse, while eastern Australia and New Zealand will see the Moon set (for them it’s the morning of September 8) while still in eclipse.
For soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, the entire eclipse will be visible from start to finish beginning a few hours after moonrise.
The dark umbral phase lasts just over 90 minutes and even at its maximum, the eclipse magnitude – that percentage of the Moon’s diameter that will be within the Earth’s umbral shadow – is only 19 percent. That dark shadow will create little more than a “bite” out of the Moon’s upper rim.
The first event, at 16:42 GMT is the Moon entering the penumbra, the faint outer extremity of the Earth’s shadow. But this shadow is so light that the Moon doesn’t begin to change appearance until the Moon’s diameter has penetrated it by at least 70 percent (17:40 GMT). Around that time, look for a very slight shading or smudginess on the upper left portion of the Moon. As the minutes pass, the penumbra becomes more obvious.
The next event to watch for is at 18:05 GMT, as the Moon enters the umbra, the dark inner part of the Earth’s shadow. This is the beginning of the partial eclipse. The umbra is much darker than the penumbra and fairly sharp-edged. The partial eclipse only lasts 1 hour 33 minutes. Maximum eclipse will come at 18:51 GMT. After maximum eclipse, the Moon will soon exit the umbra at 19:38 GMT. About 25 minutes later, the faint penumbral shading should gradually fade away.
The next lunar eclipse will be a total eclipse on March 3 of next year and will be visible from Europe, Africa and western Asia. That event will also be visible from the eastern half of North America; for many localities the eclipse will already be underway as the Moon rises.
Thus the effects of this Lunar Eclipse will last for about a month and a half, if the number of hours of a Lunar Eclipse approximates its influence in months, as we have been told since antiquity. Since the Moon is conjunct Uranus in this eclipse, look for conditions that will revolutionize your life and affairs. That it falls in Pisces would indicate new motives will suddenly come forth, as will the need to bring some things to abrupt closure by applying will power as an expression of Divine Mind and intention.
This Full Moon Eclipse will take the seeds of power and beauty from recent forms of surrender and yield major transformations that should show all the way to a greater joy. The line of greatest development shows that we all will have to honor our unique way of responding to the Divine Will while practicing in the Divine presence, finding inspiration in new routines and rituals.
For some, a liberating ordeal. For others, the unveiling of cloaked totalitarian behavior and thinking. Try to regard everything that presents itself these next seven weeks as showing you how the world of the 5 senses and the mind is truly "the playground of God and Soul."
Be willing to bide your time in strength, do not rush precipitately into things, and fortify your body and mind with gladness and good cheer, and get ready to act when the time is ripe. Go beyond hoping, and focus on the plan that will ultimately fulfill itself if you find the certainty and resoluteness you need to follow through.
Get beyond the see-saw energies, bust dishonesty and misconceptions, past and present, and remember that your previous ambition has brought recent and present crises upon you, showing you the foundations of character that will soon be confirmed in new ways of life and new relationships.
Since it's coming soon, I thought I'd also quote a little about the Annular Solar Eclipse of September 22, 2006 from the NASA site, and of course I'll be elaborating on the meaning of the coming Solar Eclipse in the near future, since it seems as though it will be affecting us all for about 5 to 7 years to come, which of course has implications for the years 2011, 2012, and 2013.
The final eclipse of 2006 is an annular eclipse of the Sun. The track of the Moon's antumbral shadow begins in northern South America and crosses the South Atlantic with no further landfall. A partial eclipse will be seen from a much larger region including South America, the eastern Caribbean, western Africa, and Antarctica. The path of the annular eclipse begins in Guyana at 09:48 UT when the Moon's antumbral shadow meets Earth and forms a 323 kilometre wide corridor. Guyana's capitol city Georgetown lies just a few kilometres outside the path's northern limit.
Rushing east, the antumbra quickly enters Surinam where its capital city Paramaribo lies deep within the antumbral path. Maximum eclipse in Paramaribo occurs at 09:51 UT, the Sun's altitude is 5° and the duration of annularity is 5 minutes 1 seconds. Continuing into French Guiana, the capitol city Cayenne stands just 10 kilometres south of the central line. Maximum eclipse occurs at 09:53 UT as the Sun stands 8° above the eastern horizon during an annular phase lasting 5 minutes 42 seconds.
The southern edge of the antumbra briefly clips the north coast of Brazil before spending the next three and a half hours sweeping across the South Atlantic. Greatest eclipse occurs at 11:40:11 UT. The annular duration is 7 minutes 9 seconds, the path width is 261 kilometres and the Sun is 66° above the featureless horizon of the open ocean. The central track runs south of the African continent and nearly reaches Kerguelen Island before ending at local sunset (13:31 UT).

Robert,
I happen to be a triple-Virgo coming off a 2 year stint of energy work flavoured with a form of Karmic Astrology. I have recently run into your writings and would simply like to thank you for the time and intent behind them, not to mention the wonderful depth that has helped in understanding the potent terrain that lies both now and within future nows - so much is coming to the surface. I wish you all the best in helping many people intuitively feel the energies engendered within astrological guidance and ontological understanding. Peace until.

Hi Carson - Thank you for your kind words regarding my work, and certainly we can all use the best wishes we can muster for each other, given the generic pollution of the atmosphere. I appreciate your praise of the work, and please keep checking in, since I'm typing as fast as I can! ;-)

You know Robert, I have Saturn at 16:24 Virgo.....Jupiter in Pisces 6:17 degrees. With that in mind and the Lunar eclipse in 2 days, I wonder which dance I will do. I have a feeling it may be the Push and Pull yet my Aries rising Leonine heart wants to lead the Conga line!

Hi again Chickarella - With Saturn directly on the eclipse line, expect some fears and limitations to be illuminated. You'll have the chance to adjust your Saturn function, preparing to revolutionize it completely when Uranus starts exactly opposing it early Spring 2007. Get ready to move in radically new directions this December. You may very well initiate your own conga line!

Hi Robert, Love the more in-depth articles you've been giving. This article I find interesting, I have Virgo Asc at 17 degrees, my North Node at 19 degress Virgo, and the Eclipse happening at 15 degrees. Your take on whats happening. Also, I've personally noticed, that I always pick up the effects of a planetary aspect 3-5 days "before" the actual aspect. Any idea what this is all about. Keep up the good work.

Hi keith - Thanks. I try to post in-depth stuff, but they do take longer, and sometimes my schedule is so hectic I feel like I'm chasing a train pulling away from the station! Some pick up on an aspect about to happen before it's exact, which could be that the pattern is being triggered by another aspect which resonates with what is about to happen, since the transiting Asc makes the pattern before the planets. Also, since all space-time is somewhat here and now for those who perceive it that way, our subconsciousness moves in the direction of what's coming without our conscious mind necessarily having a reason for it. In your case, the inners moving through your 12th do anticipate what you will directly experience as they move into your first house. You've definitely moved into your line of greatest development for the coming year. Thanks for checking in, and I'll see you on the front page.

Robert,
On August 3 I lost my astrologer. We dished astrology daily for 13 years. He was my first friend in the California desert when I made my Uranus oppose Uranus move from Chicago. I'm pretty sure he has navigated me to you. Though his predictions were right on, his fought the truth of the spirituality of Astrology when it came to my well being. We are both of the Sicilian American cultural background that fights some innate truths due to migration trauma. He was always overprotective of me when choosing relationships and never wanted to speak of the Karma necessaties one must go through. Now that he KNOWS, I believe I found this sight because you are able to share the deeper insights that a 70 year old Sicilian whose upbringing was accented with "keep your mouth shut!" stemming from the good ol' Sicilian Code of Silence. You are filling in the blanks that I guessed at. In that light I would like to share a synchroncity of today's eclipse. I am an independent scholar of Women's Spirituality. Though I abandoned my Sicilian American female Catholic upbringing and have decided to just become a simple human being who wants to know and tell the truth, I continue to revere Mary. Tomorrow is September 8 and Mary, the Mother of God's birthday. Tommorrow I will go pray to her mountain and say a prayer of thanks for finding this site! I would like to send a picture of a project I am working on to you in celebration of Mary. Please show me where to upload.
Thanks for all you are!
Chickie

Hi again Chickie - Sorry you lost your astrologer and friend. And yes, often students and friends of dead gurus and astrologers find their way to me. Glad I can fill in blanks that he was unwilling or unable to.
Mary, as an embodiment of Divine Mother energies, is an awesome thing to meditate on and with. I have been a devotee of the Divine Mother for 25 years, and to me it's the only way humanity will "get back to the garden," as it is through love, wisdom, kindness, compassion, and redemption that we will survive and do well through crises, not through getting worked up about "Father God's" forms of vengeance, obedience, and subjugation.
Of course I would love a picture in celebration of Mary. I don't know much about uploading pictures to this site, as I am somewhat retrograde in that area. I am currently looking for a web guru who can help me from time to time in my understanding of what I can and cannot do, since my last one disappeared into a strange and difficult bardo. I'm on Typepad, so I will try to check out what is possible there. If you know anything about such things, please check out Typepad Gold, and tell me what and how to upload pictures.
Posted by: Robert | September 07, 2006 at 04:01 PM
First you need to broaden/provide more to the typekey registration (your end) so that other options for the user are available ie. 'English.'lol.
For your protection, I speculate, that may require some Internet to Internet-Law Interpretation...a big need for that now I know.
Typepad Gold is silly, period, sorry typepad. Typepad serves its purpose well for this site.
Anyway Robert, I'm back with a purpose and direction.
Please drop me a link for any of your articles dealing with 'precesion.' No matter how flexible in our thinking, no matter how knowledgeable, we all need to process information in our own way. Yesterday I KNEW I was a Scorpio and today a published Astronomer and friend would have me believe I'm a Libra.
Peace out 'trouts'...
Don.
Posted by: Don | September 07, 2006 at 08:12 PM
Hi again Don - Precession deals with the movement backwards of the Vernal point through thousands of years. Unfortunately, people who use constellations as points of reference, including Vedic astrologers, ignore the fact that there are 14 "signs" of unequal length, no one really knows exactly how many degrees to subtract from our Western ephemerides, and those who use this Sidereal system often describe their signs in fairly close terms to the next sign in the Western, Tropical system. Thus the traits of a Scorpio in Tropical astrology are very similar to a Libra in the Sidereal system, the traits of Cancer in Sidereal are very similar to Leo in the Tropical system, and so on. And of course a Sun-Uranus conjunction in Tropical Scorpio is still a Sun-Uranus conjunction in a Sidereal system. On a final note, in the ancient zodiacs, before Venus came to our solar system, there was no sign called Libra - in that part of the sky, there was only one constellation known as Virgo-Scorpio and it was quite wide.

hey I'm getting married at city hall on that day 9/22/06....any thoughts?
Posted by: blustry | September 18, 2006 at 03:13 PM
Hi blustry - Congrats! Should be good with Moon entering Libra early, even with the conjunct to Mars. Mercury is cutting a favorable sextile-trine to the Saturn opposition Neptune, and Mars is sextile Saturn and quintile Pluto. Everything in marriage charts depends on your chart, the other's chart, and what time it is wherever you're getting married, which is much more than I could ever do in a comment stream. Again, best of luck!

Do you mind if I quote from this article on my blog and on the radio tonight if I give you credit? I broadcast a one hour show on the internet radio which stays on their archives and is accessible for two weeks. I have had the pleasure of interviewing some of the finer minds in the astrological fields, and other healing arts as well. I am a western astrologer. I have had a couple of Vedic Astrologers on the show. If I had to pick, I'd take some of that Vedic chart - it gives me Aquarius rising and Mercury, rather than the Pisces they are in Western. Or, I'll take the Western interpretation of Pisces Rising/Mercury over the Vedic interp. I am only going to be doing a few more shows; I've given notice. Would you like to be my final guest Oct. 4th?
Posted by: Janine | September 20, 2006 at 03:50 AM
Please feel free to quote this article with attribution. There are also other articles I've done recently about this eclipse where you may find some sound bites. And of course I'll be your guest on October 4 if you want. I have Jupiter conj North Node in Pisces, so I'm often the last spaceship out of town, so to speak. Email me by clicking on my name link at the bottom of the comment.

Hi Robert,
Fabulous site, and thanks for being a great source of info for beginner learners of astrology. I'm grateful to read about the solar eclipse before it actually happens...I'm in the middle of a n earthly storm and it is helping me not freak the heck out. Well I am still freaking out but it is helping me to be very careful where that energy goes. You're a wonderful writer and I appreciate what you have here.

Can the annual solar eclipse of september 22nd can be seen in california USA. what are the local time for the same for SANFRANCISCO.
Posted by: Vipin | September 21, 2006 at 10:33 PM
Hi christine - Thanks for your words of encouragement. We all freak out from time to time, given how this world is constructed! Hang in there and keep learning.
Hi Vipin - No, as per the NASA site, it won't be visible up here. I gave the exact time in this article. It was early this morning.

Hi Robert: I'm just curious because I have 3 friends that this eclipse hits at 29 Virgo. First friend, Eileen, is a full hit on her natal Saturn at 29 Virgo in the 2nd house, Second hit is for Sam on his natal Mars 10th house at 29 Virgo. And last is William who has 29 Sag Sun barely in the 9th house being squared by the Virgo Solar Eclipse. What do you think?
Love your info, really clear and insightful.
Posted by: gayle | September 22, 2006 at 03:53 PM
Hi gayle - Well, for your Saturn in Virgo friend, it's the end of an old limitation around money and wealth. It will also bring new work and ways of serving others if she's Leo rising. For Sam, there's an old public abrasiveness that will fade away, or a pioneering new work to be done. William needs to dream what he wants to see made manifest in the future, as his training is done. Also, whatever work he's been doing may give way to a higher truth, or an old truth give way to a new work.

i am just really starting to understand a bit of this but I have mars in virgo natally at 15 degrees...not sure what you mean by escaping a narrow destiny....I feel caged in rigth now.....I am not sure I did a good job yet at getting out of this narrow destiny. I am trying though. but a certain someone whom I really love and care for has moved into my life more and this does seem to be growing...but very slowly...but with me being a little older...and feeling the last scream of mother hood slowly wailing and running and trying to catch with me....because I just turned 42 in december, on the 6th and this year I hit 43 (the scream is getting louder and louder and the lost dream of wanting my own family too)....
what an emotional time the last few months have been for me....
anyway any thing on this too would be great I was born in kirkland lake ontario canada but live in tokyo japan right now....
Posted by: Micheline Cloutier | March 17, 2007 at 01:56 AM
Hi Micheline - It means we're ALL getting liberated from an older narrower way of doing our being. Of course you're getting clear about your ultimate needs, purposes, and "bottom lines" with Saturn opposed Saturn. Just remember that it is in quincunx to your Moon and Mercury and square your Jupiter opposed Neptune, filling in a Grand Fixed Cross forcing major adjustments in your habits, feelings, and ideas (Moon and Mercury). You must cut back on some things while carefully planning how to follow through on others without letting Neptune on your Saturn fog your common sense. As for childbirthing, you may need to get more information about your health, since major quincunxes always show in some form of physical, emotional, or mental health issue, and make adjustments accordingly, and of course age is a factor here.

i have saturn in 16.14´in virgo and jupitar in pisces in 6.4`.
I have sun in Leo and rising sun in Cancer in 21`.
What does this total lunarin virgo in 13`and partial solar eclipse in pisces in 28`mean personally for me?
Posted by: Suvra Datta | March 20, 2007 at 04:09 AM
Hi Suvra Datta - It would imply that you have a new Jupiter cycle started, though it will mean letting go of old tendencies associated with that planet. You will demonstrate the new Jupiter through new Saturn forms. Your natal Moon will benefit through these eclipses. More than that is impossible in a comment stream, though I will say that you will live two lives in one during this existence on Earth. I also have that opposition, and will state that if your early life was Jupiterian, the second part will be Saturnine, or vise-versa. You are now at an age where this should already be evident. Also you are at the beginning of a new 7 year cycle, and things will not be as clear as you would like until after the coming birthday. The Fire Trines should be helping your Sun immensely.
