Imagine, if you will, that you are approaching a threshold. As you draw nearer, you intensify, quicken. Every part of you wonders, in a deep and unfathomable way, what is approaching. Yet IT is now approaching, and we are approaching it even as IT is approaching us. The quickening intensifies; we are perplexed, amused, confounded, spurred, and being moved in deep ways toward even deeper mysteries that are beyond description.

In part two we explore more about this phenomenon that occurs three weeks at a time three times a year. At the end of this article I have included a table so you can find which house(s) this February-March 2007 Mercury retrograde period falls in relative to your Sun or rising sign. Then you can consult my article How Does Mercury Retrograde Affect Us In The Different Houses? to find how this transit will affect you personally as a result of Mercury retrograding through the houses in your chart.

This Mercury retrograde period starts February 13 (February 14 everywhere east of EST) and ends March 7 (March 8 east of EST). This retrograde moves from 11 Pisces back to 26 Aquarius, with the inferior conjunction between Mercury and the Sun occurring February 22 (February 23 east of EST) at 5 Pisces. This degree is one of "A Church Bazaar," symbolizing the "interchange of spirit and understanding on which groups are built." It speaks of "new self-development" and "discouragement mastered." Rudhyar says this is a degree where there is "value of giving a spiritual or transcendent sanction" to the interactions between us and others, speaking of a Divine Ritual that blesses our activities.

This week continues to help us focus on new responsibilities, purpose, and authorship acquired the past few weeks. The big news is the Full Moon on February 1, 9:45 pm PST at 13 degrees Leo-Aquarius. We're in a very productive atmosphere all week with the aspects named in the title, as well as a good run of lunar aspects until February 4 when we have a Mutable T-square opening a void in Gemini. In fact, February 2-3 will be important in showing us how to focus Saturn in our lives effectively, or how we can escape from "a narrow destiny" as promised by the Eclipses of September 2006. These days are about taming and training our powers to demonstrate them more effectively to others.

At my old political blog I covered a lot of stories on different aspects of global warming as it's gotten worse year by year, since it's the major issue facing our world. In this USA Today story, we are told "Human-caused global warming is here, visible in the air, water and melting ice, and is destined to get much worse in the future, an authoritative global scientific report will warn next week." As one Canadian climate scientist put it, ""This isn't a smoking gun; climate is a batallion of intergalactic smoking missiles." Some primary points of the article follow, but please go to the news story to get the full picture.

A recent comment inspired me to offer this brief note on Saturn, since it is the nozzle for effective focus at this time. Saturn is said to "rule time," and its keywords all involve learning how to use time to best effect. When we totally adopt Saturn's virtues, we "do Saturn" as there is no separation between its function and our behavior. Learning all we can about how to adapt the way we express Saturn in our lives is the key to its planetary duality, "dominion and slavery." So why are things seemingly moving so quickly?

As I pointed out yesterday, Saturn is conjunct the Plutos of everyone on Earth over the next few years. This affects entire generations, and is revealing of changes and restructuring at the most fundamental of levels, since Pluto is our "seed power" of transpersonal transformation that reveals an aspect of our "personal immortality." Today we take a look at each generation that is affected.

Due to Pluto's transpersonal transforming influence in our charts, everyone on Earth has been going through big changes in the past 4 years, or will be going through major changes in the next decade. Why? Look no farther than Saturn's transit of these times, as it has conjuncted, is conjuncting, or will conjunct the Pluto of every generation on Earth in the near past and near future.

This week is the bounceback in Saturn forms of ideals glimpses thanks to Neptune. Venus and Mercury this week move the new fusions and births of Neptune started at the conjunctions into concrete forms via Saturn. As I've noted recently, Saturn is the nozzle for the energies of all the other planets, forming a "Bucket" Jones pattern that will be with us for some time to come. Saturn as the energy of expression shows us the way to focus the power of the NOW into forms appropriate to our highest evolutionary intention, even Dharma, our Ultimate Purpose or "True Function." We can get particularly focused at this time, and with the waxing Moon setting the Capricorn New Moon into motion, expect a lot of practical work to get done quickly, new self-organizations to take shape, and new ways of claiming our "authorship" in our world in ways that are creative and enjoyable.

For your consideration, "The Universal Soldier," a Buffy Sainte Marie song as done by Donovan back in 1966. It's still as strong today as it was then. Someone's done a great video to go with it, so by all means, go below the fold to find all the lyrics and video to a Donovan performance of this powerful statement about "the Universal Soldier."
He's five foot two, and he's six feet four,
he fights with missiles and with spears,
he's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen,
he's been a soldier for a thousand years.

The New Moon of January 18 fell at 29 degrees Capricorn, the second month in a row we've had a "Void of Course" New Moon. However, for those of us with planets in the final degrees of a sign, the Moon is always making aspects in our charts, so "void of course" is somewhat irrelevant. Also, there are other planetary influences besides the Moon, as I pointed out in The Solar Eclipse of September 2006 In Virgo. That Solar Eclipse continues to exert a long term influence assisting us in "escaping from a narrow destiny," and though that New Moon was also Void of Course at 30 Virgo, it still has tremendous influence. So what's up with this one?

As you've probably noticed, Saturn in Leo has shown us some heart tests like we haven't known in a long time. Leo keywords include courage, strength, heart, nobility, resoluteness, autonomy, playfulness, dramatic self-expression, and leadership, whether of ourselves or others. We've been dealing with Saturn in Leo since July 2005, and will be finishing up our lessons through early September 2007, so we're in the "end game" of learning what we have to learn about this force majure, the "binding principle," that which either enslaves or liberates us from our fears, inhibitions, and obsolete rules that keep us from living fully.

This period shows frequent shifts in the element balance due to the inner planets all changing signs at least three times, affecting the houses they rule in our charts. Everyone with planets in Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio will go through rapid changes in energy related to these signs, so don’t get confused if you feel differently every so often between now and April 1, 2007. This will bring changes in the houses with these signs on the cusps, affecting over half of everyone's reality. Get ready for lots of shifting personal developments!

There has been a lot written about the Quintile series of aspects, much of it vague and very generalized. Since these angles occur with great frequency, there is relatively little written about them, and a very important one is occurring at the present time, I thought I should offer you some insights about this misunderstood but very powerful series of aspects.

The great run of Lunar Aspects we've had recently yields major changes this week due to Venus generating Grand Irrationality changes. During the old moon in effect through January 18-19, finish up whatever you need to left over from the Compassion/Forgiveness energies of the last Lunation cycle. We're now leaving the recent Saturn irrationality field in our rearview mirrors, though you can expect decisions and changes confronted the past two weeks to continue to yield results for some time to come, especially in February when the rewards from Spirit start showing up in definite ways. We're now launched into a new era, and though things may seem somewhat unclear at present, make no mistake that much has been set into motion.

I am sorry to report that for about two hours tonight, between 9-11 pm PST, Typepad will be off line for maintenance, and therefore my blog will not be accessible. Please don't freak out if you can't get to my site during those hours, as we are told it will be back up by midnight tonight PST. Those of you sleeping will not miss me at all, but for my readers in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, please take note.
This seemed relevant given the escalation of our "righteous war," and all the other "righteous wars" past and future. From Bobdylan.com, words that thunder across time.
Oh my name it is nothin' My age it means less
The country I come from Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there The laws to abide
And that land that I live in Has God on its side.
Oh the history books tell it They tell it so well
The cavalries charged The Indians fell
The cavalries charged The Indians died
Oh the country was young With God on its side.

January features the Sun in Capricorn, and during January 2007 we also have Mercury in this Cardinal Earth sign the first half of the month and Mars in Capricorn the second half of the month. Capricorn puts the focus on our claim to power in the public realm and our ability to assert our personal authority within a social structure. This self-starting practical sign represents the power of organizing energies into forms of personal fulfillment, and the ability to use time productively to achieve our intention. Capricorn is the ultimate plodder, patiently persevering with an eye to the long-term payoff. Wherever it falls in a chart is where you may find and claim your power, authorship, mature experience and responsibility.

If you were here this time last year, you know that January 9 is perhaps the most sacred day of my year. This is the day each year I dedicate to the memory of one who was closer to me than my own breath, the heart of my heart. This was the day 19 years ago that my life turned upside down, changing me forever. I was thrown into a journey difficult beyond description, with no guarantee that I would ever find release and relief from the overwhelming grief thrust upon me by a circumstance truly beyond my control, or anyone else's, for that matter. If you're ready to go deeper, read on.

This week we continue a great run of Lunar Aspects helping us bring the Full Moon potential of Forgiveness to manifestation, helping the Compassion of the New Moon to grow by the spaciousness and luminosity we generate through Forgiveness. The recent Saturn irrationality field continues to yield results, and the Mars trine Saturn opening the void in Aries shows us the way that will catch fire in our lives beginning March 2007, with the generative inspiration lasting through April, May, and June. We'll catch a glimpse of this electrifying power on January 23-24, so be alert for signs of things to come!

When on the road recently, I remembered that when the Moon was in early Cancer a few days ago it made 4 points of a Seven Pointed Star configuration also known as a Great Septile. There were many events at the end of December and early January that indicate a sea change based in many interesting events set into motion then. The Moon in late Leo conjunct Saturn currently happening is the next point triggering that configuration. Welcome to major shifts if you're open to the adventure.
