This week begins under the beams of the 26 Taurus May 16 New Moon, but takes a big turn on May 31 at the Full Moon falling at 11 Sagittarius-Gemini. Trust your body wisdom and get it in gear, since the Fire trine can give wings to what we've been working toward since March. The other big news is that Venus and Mars are in the Cancer and Aries zones of the Grand Irrationality, showing this time is one of making major decisions about where we're going and who we're going with.
To jog your memory about the New Moon's influence which pervades this time: It occurred at 26 Taurus, a point of "seeing the appearance of the beloved on the balcony" if we have defined our specific role, function, and imagery precisely up to now. It was quincunx Pluto and sextile Mars, showing adjustments and sacrifices yielding productive action toward our intended future. The lunation was also square to the Saturn-Neptune opposition showing we're finishing up the Taurus T-square lessons of past weeks.
We've been living with Fixed T-squares for awhile, since any time the Moon goes through Taurus or Scorpio it triggers the ongoing Saturn opposition Neptune challenging "right action" on our part. The opposition was exact from mid-February through mid-March 2007, and is again exact from now through mid-July 2007. Every time the Moon triggers this effect it reminds us of strengths we've cultivated from breaking up old patterns the past 18 months. This week the Moon will move through Scorpio, triggering the T-square on May 29-30.
To consolidate what I've noted in other articles:
... Though T-squares are usually considered a negative and frictional influence, the ones we've just been through were chances to purify and drop old ways to create space for more appropriate efforts now. We've shifted magnetism, letting go so we can attract the assets, resources or values will support our next outreach. That has meant a shift in both perception and action.
These T-squares burst things wide open... the Sun illuminates and vitalizes what needs to become part of our life experience. Since the Taurus energies sextile and quintile Uranus, renovate, revolutionize things, and go for the unique, unusual, or innovative. We've opened a Neptune cycle while fulfilling the old Saturn cycle started Summer 2006...
Recent weeks brought many major decisions breaking old deadlocks, ambivalence, or procrastination. It's been a great time for accepting greater responsibilities and duties and leaving lesser concerns behind. We can achieve clarity around roles we want to play, overcoming any hesitation around doing what we must to make some new way of being real.
We've solidified many things even as we've turned a big corner... and had opportunities to see what's been jamming our gears in relationships, and what we needed to end while embracing actions and attitudes that will bring us results we want in the future. Due to the on-going Jupiter square Uranus we've also had a sensation like something very BIG is coming. Welcome to the NOW!
As I've explained before, though squares are usually associated with difficulty, they mark important points where we shift direction, breaking free of old ideas about who we used to be. When we confront squares and oppositions we are shown ways to reorient to find the balance and turn the corner in crucial areas. Squares are either the emergence of something (waxing square) or the fulfillment and culmination of a process (waning square), while oppositions bring forth awareness. These times are not necessarily great for launching new things, but they can be great at moving things forward that have already been planned in the past.
Saturn opposition Neptune is behind the tension of the gap between ideal and reality, the theoretical and the practical. Continue not allowing nerves, temperament, or unexpected diversions to cause sideways explosions result in messing up perfectly good opportunities. Get oriented, get your drive in gear, open your vision and understanding, and be compassionate while bringing closure to old life movies.
This week Venus and Mars making their septiles, biseptiles, and triseptiles to Neptune and Pluto show that we're all going to feel like it's even weirder than it's been, with major decisions for those who have planets or angles in any of the 7 zones of The Grand Irrationality, which is bringing major forks in the road for all. Part Two of how the long-range Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto influence are working at this time at this link.
As noted in other articles,
The Grand Irrationality is why everything feels much weirder than it used to, with hard edges and widespread irrational and/or compulsive behaviors more and more evident. Sometimes these energies grow stronger than at other times, depending on where the planets are. The link to The Grand Irrationality will explain more about this widespread long term influence in depth, along with internal links in that article that explain more about the larger field and what we can do to maneuver it successfully.
Right now the hot zones of The Grand Irrationality fall at approximately 27 Sagittarius-1 Capricorn, 20-25 Aquarius, 11-14 Aries, 2-7 Gemini, 24-27 Cancer, 15-19 Virgo, and 6-10 Scorpio at this time in history. This pattern is setting up the generally strange atmosphere, a lot of compulsions coming to surface as well as forks in the road of our destiny in several areas of life, and overall one long hard edge of choices, changes, and a future that never is quite as logical as we may like.
In dealing with the generic weirdness, remember that even if things get very bizarre or irrational, we are not powerless. Even if destiny is "on the move," we still can steer the process to some degree, if we don't lose our cool in the midst of the great weirdness. We’re learning in these strange times not to lean too heavily on "things making sense," and how to fly by the seat of our pants, not going funky places we shouldn't, and making choices that will propel us into an evolving future that may not make much sense but is perfect for the uniqueness we are.
Every time the Moon triggers the Grand Irrationality we experience a form of a turning point of sorts, where the seeds of the future will stand revealed. Besides May 28-29 when it's in the Scorpio zone, it'll trigger the pattern when it conjuncts Pluto at the Galactic Center on June 1-2 and conjuncts Neptune June 6.
We've recently had the pattern heavily stimulated. Mercury was in the Gemini zone May 11-13, the Sun is there May 22-26, and as I've said, Venus is now in the Cancer zone and Mars is in the Aries zone. This will create full 7 pointed Star patterns when the Moon is in Scorpio, as the transiting Angles will occupy the Gemini and Virgo zones four times a day, with the aspects exact in some places on Earth. May 28-29 will be a major turning point for many. Since it may not make sense from time to time, learn to hang out with the energies and not get confused by the swirl.
Venus continues to herald things to come since it is closing the gap between Saturn and the other planets, creating a Locomotive pattern where all the planets are now in 2/3 of the signs. This week Venus continues to help us consolidate recent life-shifting decisions through new individual-spiritual values. With the Moon transiting Scorpio through Aquarius this week, the Moon transits the front end of the occupied section, putting strong focus on the seeds of new beginnings and the major Pluto and Neptune energies driving the Grand Irrationality. This will accent the imbalance of the Locomotive, which will yield power but also require us to find a point of balance so we aren't diverted sideways messing up forward motion.
Saturn is no longer the nozzle for the other planetary energies as it has been for months, but it will be one of the brackets, along with Pluto, framing the Locomotive pattern that predominates for months to come. I'll explain the difference between the Bucket and Seesaw patterns we've been living with for awhile and the coming Locomotive pattern and its lunar variances in the near future.
The week begins with the Moon in Libra. As I noted in last weeks article about the weekend leading up to the week ahead:
The Moon enters Libra May 25 at 9:16 pm PDT. While in Libra, it makes some extraordinarily favorable aspects to most of the other planets. Of note is that each time the Moon is in Libra, it sextiles Saturn while both make quincunxes to Uranus, creating a Yod, or "Finger of God" pattern. This also happens when the Moon in Capricorn sextiles Uranus both double quincunx Saturn. These Yods are allowing us to express our individuality helping us and others let go of old "social rigidities," with needed adjustments creating joyous interactions making life freer and happier.
These Yods are most focused in May and June when the Moon transits 18-19 degrees of Libra or Capricorn. This configuration involves multiple sacrifices leading to spiritual expansions through a narrowing of focus. This can help us understand the larger sacrifices and adjustments required by the on-going Saturn quincunx Uranus. The Moon enters Scorpio on Monday, May 28, at 10:11 am PDT, and moves into the Grand Irrationality already discussed...
The Moon's favorable aspect with Uranus should help for inventiveness and renovations while the T-square of mid-week will help us to eliminate whatever was dislodged by the New Moon in Taurus discussed earlier. As I've noted in the past, these squares:
... for the most part 1) broke some things up forever, 2) challenged us see what to clear out, 3) made us evaluate what to "put on the shelf for the future," and 4) opened up solid paths of personal, social, and spiritual development associated with things, heart, magnetism, ambition, and idealism. We were all challenged to one or more of the following: persevere despite difficulties, cut our losses when blocked by intransigent obstructionists, stabilize what which was unstable, or break apart that which was stuck in the mud.
Any square to the Saturn opposition Neptune shows us how to release important Fire energies through Saturn, offering us a chance to transcend old limitations and generate new heart power and brought important questions to the forefront for all of us. What is our message? Where is our heart's interest? Where is our play, our creativity, our enthusiasm, our spontaneity, our pleasure? These can show us the way to our higher purpose.
The Moon enters Sag on May 30 at 10:07 pm PDT, which means May 31 everywhere east of Dallas. It becomes the Full Moon less than 24 hours later, the second Full Moon of May for people in North and South America and related islands within a few time zones. This Full Moon trines Mars and conjuncts Jupiter while quintile Neptune and tredecile Saturn. Should be a very productive and unique energy field created, with lots of gifts and unusual circumstances that should turn out satisfactory for all involved.
The Full Moon square Uranus releases the energies built through the trine and quintile series aspects into Virgo. Pay attention to details, get things ordered in terms of priorities, and open to new possibilities of concrete development and wider parts to play on life's stage. Focus the genius energy of this Full Moon through your body-wisdom rather than your mind, plug yourself into productive action rather than making excuses, and rise to unexpected or unusual opportunities and ideas to propel your process into a larger life and vision.
This lunation will release long term Lunar eclipse energies you can learn more about from following the links in this article from a few weeks ago.
The Moon enters Capricorn on June 2 at 8:09 am PDT. Great time for pest control, especially with the square to Mars early in the sign. Of course, the opposition to Mercury is a caution against snap judgments, opinions, or speech, since it makes a Cardinal T-square with the void in Libra, a challenge for diplomacy and refinement in the face of self-serving impulsive behavior. The Moon favorable to Uranus helps us find courage, nobility, and strength through taking a unique and unusual view of things.
The Moon enters Aquarius at 4:15 pm PDT just hours after Mars trines Jupiter, focusing the Grand Fire Trine. This Moon in Aquarius is totally forward looking, since Venus enters Leo and the Sun opposes Jupiter on June 5-6 while the Moon is still in that sign. Also remember that when it conjuncts Neptune on June 6 it's in the Grand Irrationality, with the challenge being to find our greater service, keep the initiative in our own hands, and practice forms of productive self-dramatization of our most authentic self.
Given that any strong connect with Neptune is amplified through Neptune being stationary retrograde, expect strange sensations of cosmic tides shifting backwards for a few months. This will bring us echoes of whatever we've been learning and/or putting out into collective consciousness, and marks a threshold of us learning to build an adequate vehicle to deliver forms of higher power. Strive for balance these next few months as you experience yourself performing beyond your previous expectations.
Overall, there's a fairly good run of favorable Lunar aspects this week, and the Blue Moon will bring many good things to surface, so open to the unique elements of existence that will help give us all signals, ideas, and messages around the new energies of compassion recently cut loose at the Wesak Festival (More at this link.) Keep learning discernment, detachment, dispassion, and generate as much goodwill as you can as you surf your way through the effects of the recent New Moon T-square.
Keep in mind that the Sun has begun to make a Mutable T-square with Jupiter and Uranus, throwing energies into Virgo. This will be a major influence over this week and the next. You can find out more about the larger Jupiter square Neptune effect by going to The Astrology of 2007 - The Outer Planets - Eruptions, Disruptions, Understanding, Openings and Abundance, the Movement Toward A Promise as well as Astrology Now in April-May-June 2007 - Jupiter square Uranus, Saturn opposition Neptune.
We've now turned a corner, and can bring some very productive and unique gifts, ideas, and perspective into manifestaton. Have no fear at the changes, since this is the time we've been waiting for. Go with the rising tide, the promise of the vision, be direct and dynamic in applying yourself to your desired ends, and open to your new vistas of concrete development.

Hi Robert, how's Moon in Taurus, Sun in Leo matches with me --- Venus in Taurus, Leo Adsendant? I hope all is well with you. Thank you

Hi Larissa - It's not that simple, as there are dimensions upon dimensions involved in relationships. And yes, all is well with me, now that the train doesn't seem to be about to jump the tracks.

I understand...

Hi Robert...I believe I can identify with the grand irrationality alignment this time round...as it is,I ve been thinking a lot about myself, surroundings and where are we(here) all going at this rate..at first,I thought it was because I am getting overly fatigue on my non stop activities. Then it strike me about configuration that you mention above..I suppose I am on a cross road of my life :) It makes me wonder where I am going and how long more I can last doing what I am doing.Nothing much had change on the people attitude, but one thing I can say, those that I see happenings are the good people or very good and the bad one ,as it is..no grey area on this matter here :)anyway, wishing u a wonderful weekend dearest Robert

Hi Larissa - One more thing - one of the sweetest, most loved, stubborn men in my life is a Sun in Leo Moon in Taurus. And so is Mick Jagger! That combo is definitely a yeehaw piece of work!
Hi ann - The sense of being at a crossroads is pandemic right now! (At least we're not going to the Parchment Farm!) Consider that an attempt at humor using an obscure blues reference. We're ALL wondering how we can keep doing what we're doing, in one realm or another, and this cuts across all age groups, even my elderly parents. You bet it's making a lot crystal clear about who we can and cannot dance with into the new era. And truly, thanks for your wish. Am having a blast listening to the Beatles' BBC Sessions cd.

Robert-
The new moon at 26 Taurus was conjunct my descendent, and this full moon is in my first house. It really does feel like a turning point of sorts, I am still not clear exactly what that is. I have been offered a new job in a town 300 miles from where I am now; I will make up my mind by the full moon. In the meantime, I feel stuck and consumed by fear.. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Pamela

Hi Pamela - First, last, and always, STOP fearing whatever, since it's a useless and dangerous disease. Dsc shows how we respond to opportunities. Sounds like you're confronting "the beloved" as a result of previously defining role, function, and imagery precisely according to your heart's desire. Sit with the energies, see if in fact this is part of you being "liberated from a narrow destiny," and note all the subtle sensations, as well as concrete realizations that will come up if you invite them. If this is your ticket to ride, then enjoy the process, say goodbye to whatever you need to, and open to the adventure! And if it's not liberating then relax, since you probably won't take the chance. In any case, stop fearing the unknown. Enjoy the fact you actually have options!

Robert, Thanks for pointing out how dangerous fear is. I will know on Tuesday if the job votes me in as the best candidate. The new place is a wonderful college town on a lake, the energy is clean and alive.

Hi all, its curious. I am on the middle of a big change (spiritual step as I am currently pausing my job situation and make this shift into concrete experience)
Curious since I have in the points of Grand Irrationality I have plenty of natal planets and strong current transits:
27 Sagittarius-1 Capricorn: Pluto is conjucting my natal Mercury-Sun-Neptune!
20-25 Aquarius: close to my 27º Rising! Which is where Saturn-Neptune axis sits!
24-27 Cancer: I have north node here!
15-19 Virgo: And I have natal Moon here which is being opposed now by Uranus! And Jupiter is this week squaring this opposition!
No wonder I have been feeling on the middle of a big big change!
Anyone also with late degree Aquarius rising?
Posted by: Irpsit | May 28, 2007 at 09:20 AM
Another question Robert.
Can you please advice me good ways for dealing with excess Uranus energy?
I have quite much Uranus influence, since I have a late Aquarius rising and currently Uranus is transiting first house opposing now my natal moon.
Yes, I now, its time for change, moving, breaking free, awakening, pausing and taking a though before another move. I am DOing those now. But, how to anchor more myself? Uranus sometimes just speeds me too much and is causing some minor problems such high blood tension and that, when I am still on old job situation which I am currently will be leaving out in next two three months...
My Virgo moon wants some earthy healthy anchoring despite the much-need fast-paced changes! (Moon rules my sixth house too)

Hi Pamela - Gotta love college towns! Yes, fear is a useless response. Either we do or do not do, but fear has no place in either. Best of luck.
Hi Irpsit- The reason it is an important time is because you have parts of your chart directly impacted by the choices and decisions accompanying the Grand Irrationality contacts. As for Uranus, decrease nervous reactivity and eccentric willfulness, and accept your complete uniqueness relative to everything else in existence. Synthesize everything in unique and freeing perspectives. Embrace your individuality and complete autonomy to choose your higher direction any and every given moment of your life. Anchor yourself in the Eternal. And of course, remember that you're not trapped in anything except as briefly as you need to be. Get a long term work, and enjoy the changes without fussing too much over what's not exactly perfect, since perfection is a process, not a goal.

Hi there, this is the first time I believe that I've been on this website. I read about the Grand Irrationality and would like some of your insight into my chart as a lot of my planets are in these signs.
Sun in Cancer, Moon in Pisces, Leo rising, Venus and Saturn in Taurus, Mercury in Gemini, Mars in Sag, Pluto in Virgo, Neptune in Scorpio, Uranus in Libra.
I feel that change is occurring on a deep level but has not quite presented itself. One of the, but not the only, big issues has to deal with my 3 year separation from my husband. I feel that a divorce will be finalized shortly! I feel as if we are both finally ready to move on.
Any thoughts?

Your Highness,
I have a friend who has decided out of the blue to marry someone he has been seeing on and off for about 6 years. I have been against it when he asked me. I just noticed this full moon at 11 sag is conjunct his neptune 11 sag 7 th house. Trines his 4th house with natal Saturn conjunct his moon 11.
He's is a 0 Virgie sun......Si? No?
Most important The full moon trines my 11 Par Fortune in Leo 5th Casa. Am I going to finally take my dream trip to Leonine Hawaii to finally meet Pele or what? Cmon.....I need some good news!!!

Hi cat bur - Welcome the the site. The Grand Irrationality is merely the gigantic weirdness pressing many toward their destiny while others just are confronting some form of OCD in self or others. With Saturn putting pressure on your Asc, Venus, Saturn, and Neptune, and before that your Sun, no doubt you've reinvented yourself these past two to three years. And of course Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto have touched your Moon, Mercury, Mars, and Pluto. You may need to read the Spiritual Astrology articles of 30 April/1 May to get a more complete picture. You're definitely not the person you were back in 2003, so get a wider view and bless the passages without clutching. Let go of lurking insecurities and face forward rather than backwards.
Hi Chickie - Well, you cannot spare a person who is determined to follow their impulses for better or worse. Saturn on his Sun will teach him many things these next 11 months, so be his friend rather than the resistance he pushes off against. Don't know that this Lunation means a trip to Hawaii (Colorado, France, and Italy are also all Leo!) but I suspect you're going to be intensifying your striving and opening to many things by this August. It's important to remember that the Full Moon exerts its influence in the weeks after, and this lunar position will be conjunct Jupiter, as well as Jupiter will be near this degree through September, so we're all getting lessons in letting go and moving about in reorientation. And the Sun will open "new vistas of developement," so adapt and move on up and out!
