The Summer Solstice falls on June 21 at 11:07 am PDT. It's the longest day of the year, and said to be the point at which "free will" acts more powerfully than any other time. It is a point of decision, and kicks off Summer, the season of work, play, productivity, and lots of sunshine for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. If you're "down under," remember to have a little compassion for us up here in the north when December 21, the Winter Solstice, rolls around and we're freezing while you're enjoying the beach! What follows are some hints as to what we all can expect to experience over the next 3 months, regardless of where we live.
The charts for the Summer and Winter Solstices provide guideposts for what will follow in the 90 days afterwards, just as charts for the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox each show what will follow in the season that follows those points in time. This Summer Solstice chart shows a major Grand Fire Trine, which should enliven things and be a brightening influence over the next 13 weeks. Add to this that Mars in the Solstice chart is one of 4 points of a Great Quintile, which activates a larger 5 pointed star pattern in all our charts.
The 4 points all in quintile or biquintile to each other are Moon at 22 Virgo, Mercury retrograde at 11 Cancer, Mars at 28 Aries, and Chiron at 16 Aquarius. This Moon is quintile Mercury and biquintile Mars and Chiron, Mercury is quintile Mars and biquintile Chiron, and Mars is quintile Chiron. These should provide some amazing quick and unique forms of healing, or opportunities for our Higher Self to come forth.
This will profoundly affect and specialize through unique gifts, talents, and circumstances these degree areas of our charts, as well as the areas ruled by the Moon, Mercury, and Mars, thus affecting half our reality. And don't forget the void 5th point that falls at 4 Sagittarius. I believe this could be one of the truly unique periods in history, with gifts galore for anyone tuned to the Grand Fire Trine or the multiple quintiles and biquintiles.
The Moon and Mercury being in mutual reception and quintile shows as a highly specialized unique and gifted focus, since these "rule" everything in the chart as final dispositors of all the other planets except Mars in Aries. Here the Moon in wide square to Pluto is actually favorable, as the Moon releases the power built in the Grand Fire Trine and Pluto releases the power of the Great Quintile. The seeds of unique things will sprout this Summer, and our works and adjustments will show us our inspiration.
The Moon binovile Jupiter and Uranus binovile Pluto offers us all major realizations if we can see how seemingly contradictory spiritual realizations share a common base. The Moon challenges us to rise to unusual or unexpected opportunities, not procrastinate or let vain imaginings distract or worry us, and be decisive in responding to demands on our unique talents. As Moon is in Virgo, be alert and efficient, and as much as possible, find humor to keep your experience simple, direct, and immediate.
The Sun biseptile Uranus will bring forth erratic behavior in many, as well as genius. Venus trine Jupiter should give us all fortunate relations, and with Saturn at 22 Leo, expect your duties and responsibilities to lead you to the message you're here to deliver to your world. Everyone will find themselves "back home" after an adventure in exploration, whether past or present.
The Moon is at 22 Virgo, the Royal Coat of Arms, which will bring many to a form of practical discipleship in their life where they will be upholding venerable standards for others to emulate or learn from. The key question for many will be "Are you ready, willing, and able to assume a 'royal" office, at whatever level it operates?" What values and standards are you willing to embody? This degree is about understanding our "predecessors," and whose footsteps we are following on a path to timeless truth we demonstrate to others.
Jupiter promises that many will be "stirred to a rebirth of love," or a new identity will be revealed showing future possibilities and wider perspectives. Others may confront the karmas of unfinished business, and some may even go through forms of "retribution" from ghosts of the past.
For those areas under the influence of Mercury, the Summer offers the challenge of finding the humor or irony in situations helping us decondition ours or others' assumptions and ego defenses. This is about using humor to find objectivity, or escape from rigid or uptight energies. Venus is on a degree of "putting on the show," so plan your demonstrations carefully and plan the release of energies, even if sometimes the show gets spectacular!

Dear Robert, Happy Summer Solstice!
You said above: "For those under the influence of Mercury, the Summer offers the challenge of finding the humor or irony in situations helping them to decondition their assumptions and ego defenses..."
But, are we not all under Mercury's influence?
Posted by: Alix | June 21, 2007 at 03:02 AM
Hi Alix - And a Happy to you as well. The answer is yes and no. We all have a Mercury showing how we coordinate our life affairs and are being "guided to our Soul" by the Cosmic Trickster. However, those with strong Gemini or Virgo or a prominent Mercury are heavily affected, whereas those with other planets and signs prominent are not. In any case, we are always influenced by Mercury in the areas it rules. (I've reworded the phrase in the article to express the concept more accurately.)

Robert,
This is the most hopeful summer outlook I've seen in a while. I need this and I'm now welcoming the solstice and all it has to offer.
Thanks

Dear Robert,
Many thanks for your continued insights! This solstice seems to be hitting me particularly hard this time. I am an energy healer and psychic by training and I seem to experiencing a considerable amount of physical energy fluctuations. Not sleeping well, quite a number of other energy disturbances. It's not physical illness, I also know that. I do know I have Uranus on the ascendant, my birth details are July 12th 1955, San Francisco CA 5:22 AM. Could I trouble you for any insights? It's a bit of a rough ride, it started this morning.
Many thanks,
Kat

Hi Chantal - Sure. The Solstice is always to be welcomed, since it augurs a new sub-era. This one should be beneficial, despite the Saturn opposition Neptune.
Hi Kat - As per my previous comment, Saturn IS opposed Neptune, so take corrective actions accordingly. As for "Not sleeping well, quite a number of other energy disturbances" it's Urnaus on its station, so we're ALL dealing with that. Don't sweat it. If it "started this morning" then it's temporary as a result of transiting conditions. All is quite good for you in the long run...
Hi Diana - Yes, Happy Solstice. Glad I could shine a light for someone. Major "weather" coming in, and of course, as one who respects Shamans, Aunties, and Grandmothers, 'tis a gran' adventure that awaits us all... Concerts are a thing of distant mem'ry, but somewhere deep inside....

Many thanks, Robert. I will reread what you have here. I did some meditating so it seems to have cleared a bit. I'm not in the habit of asking for free advice, so I appreciate it. This Mercury RX in Cancer has been quite interesting-quite introspective. But this particular Solstice took me a bit by surprise. Thanks again.

Hi Robert,
It's me again, over the past few months (beginning mid of last year)Things have not been going too well for me.A long and very close relationship broke off and it effected me really bad.I have since become an alcoholic.Things never picked up.I had a series of accidents and have spent every cent of my savings on repairs.Money has become really tight and i am forced to retire on a lot of activities. Most of my friends have walked away thinking i was a wreck. My working life is currently on the rocks and i have tried every single way to find a new job..but every effort has failed. My applications for personel loans has been rejected and everthing i do now,i have to do it twice..I dont know if this is karma since Saturn has been opp neptune since last year.According to most of the websites,it supposed to relieve some of us by june 25 2007.I am really tired on analizing so many transits and i just hope this saturn-neptune oppisition is the cause of it all.Since i am Aries,i am sure other ariens face something like that as well..
I am not asking for much..i just want my life back.I eally feel sick sometimes when i see all my other friends achiving so well in life..10 months my life has been a mess

Hi Robert,
Quick question....Transiting Rx Mercury is now quincunx my natal Mercury (also rx)...several dreams and other indicators tell me this is about "speaking/expressing" truth that others will not agree with/validate, and will have to stand against them alone. I am one of those people with 4 planets at 20-23 of fixed signs...11-15-59 3:22am Tarrytown NY (Westchester Co).....and this is "active" through the 25th...
Funny, I had a "sign" yesterday, (watching tv show with exact circumstances, and at the last minute, the actress "stood up and spoke the truth about the situation"...is this what this aspect is about?
namaste...

Hi Kat - You're welcome. Mercury RX often "takes us by surprise," the trick being to suspend judgment until all is said and done.
Hi Satvinder - Sorry you've been having a hard time, and you allowed difficult endings to lead you to bad habits. It seems as though your process is leading you to "hit bottom" so you can reclaim your power to drive your boat in productive directions. You probably need to retire from outer things to put the focus where it belongs, and I have no doubt that you have friends who are willing to tell you the hard truth when you're ready to listen and make adjustments. This is not karma, except your unwillingness to do whatever it takes to shift course into directions where you'll get beneficial results from your efforts. I would suggest that you stop doing whatever it is that hasn't worked up to now. Doing things twice is a waste of time. And Saturn opposed Neptune just shows we MUST take responsibility for overcoming delusions and fears. I am an Aries, and what you describe is NOT my experience of things. You can get your life back by making changes in the now that will put you on track of dharma, not all the stuff that led you into a ditch. Definitely stop comparing yourself to others, and take a look into your inner self so you can see what to correct, how to correct it, and what not to do in order to avoid relapsing into error. Your strength is in moving into new directions and attitudes and quickly leaving old nonsense in the dust. Get the right point of view, and you'll be doing fine within a few weeks at most.
Hi WHR - The aspect shows the need to make adjustments and sacrifices if necessary. Of equal importance is Jupiter on your Mercury-Jupiter, which of course shows the need to speak your peace to liberate your mind. With Saturn on your Uranus, you're crystalizing your individuality which is the "carrier pigeon" trained to deliver a message. Just remember that nothing turns out as suspected after the RX is over, and with Venus about to go RX, it will no doubt bring echoes from the past related to your individualism. The conjunctions of Sun, Mercury, and Venus on your Uranus will mark the point of liberation.

thanks once again for the insight....have had dreams/indicators of that also...surprizes/thinking one way..and another happens...
....you are greatly appreciated.

Robert..
so about mid Aug, Sun in Leo, Mercury direct in Leo, and Venus rx in Leo connecting with my Uranus..is the date of "flight".....and have had dreams that have shown the Venus rx...."man from past, calling me to come in and see him...getting a new car/"self"..2 opportunities"...and I understand it is a "re-playing of old"...and I am getting the chance to "let go" of old behaviors.....
many thanks again..

Hi Wildhorse running - Thanks. Remember too that there are invisible helpers and inner powers made manifest even when it seems human efforts "fall short."

Hi Robert. My challenge is a bilateral masectomy in a few weeks. I have already seen some of the gifts this is bringing in the form of love and kindness from family and friends and even strangers, release from some burdens to make room to carry this one. I wonder about karma and cancer - I don't see my diagnosis as retribution or punishment - I see it as a consequence of genetics or the modern world's environment and am trying to seize this opportunity - a tough one - but ultimately a positive one. Am I missing something? I am aries, sag rising

Robert,
You said.... "Remember too that there are invisible helpers and inner powers made manifest even when it seems human efforts "fall short."
I have had "questions" about the dream state....starting in 2000....and really intensifying in Sept-Oct 2004 (with Profetic-or future result oriented dreams)...and since then, being constant and progressing. Kind of like a "movie I was watching"......what you are saying is that alot of this is happening within?, which explains alot. I did some stupid things when they started....let go of "real life"...and lived in the clouds....12th house NNode/undoing....and have been humbled/but have grown much stronger because of it....a double edged sword.
I understand more now...Grasias

Hi Anne - Well, I believe many forms of cancer are a result of living in a highly polluted world filled with industrial toxins. That's the problem with environmental law being skewed to allow massive amounts of these things to be discharged into the land, air, and water with no legal recourse from a system geared for maximum corporate profits and little regard to the mess they create. Plus our medical system is focused on pharmaceutical and insurance profits, not true cures. I don't know if you're missing something or not, but from your tone you seem to be doing as well as anyone could, given the fight you're going through. I would think you can use this experience to find a way at points in the future to serve others who suffer or are afraid of such things. Try to eat healthy, think healthy, remember your Eternal Self despite all the changes going on in your body, feelings, and mind, and perhaps a light will develop showing you a greater purpose than you've even known before. You're a very strong person. May you move through this passage with grace, courage, and resolve.
Hi WHR22 - Keep watching the movie, keep welcoming the signals from subconsciousness, and maybe a gift will show itself in a way that helps you serve the world. I have NN in the Solar 12th, so I understand. And of course, that which does not kill us only makes us stronger. Aum Namah Shivaya! Y de nada.

Hi Robert,
If it's the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, then in Australia would the characteristics of the sign Cancer still apply. Since it would be the winter solstice down there, wouldn't Capricorn be more suitable? One experienced astrologer told me that the signs have absolutely nothing to do with the seasons, but derive their qualities from the elements. Then what about the seasonal symbolism of the Tropical Zodiac, with Aries signalling the spring equinox etc.?
Thanks for your time,
Posted by: mike | June 28, 2007 at 07:23 AM
Hi Mike - I've pondered what you bring up for many years. Characteristics are still that, and each sign is but one face of an axis of energy. So Cancer and Capricorn both share the power of decision and reorientation. Still, the concept of harvest with Libra and Scorpio would not hold true for the equivalent Aries and Taurus (or would it?)
Yes, the signs are described by the element and mode, as well as the "formula" determined by the six planetary energies ruling each sign. One great astrologer was convinced the beginning of the year should be in October, so there is a lot of room to explore here. And of course, perhaps the power claim of 1 Capricorn is best done in the Winter in the Northern Hemisphere, and at the beginning of Summer in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a great question. I'm into any possible dialog connected to this phenomenon of the Hemispheres.

Hi Robert and cyber family. My wife and I just returned from the Spiritual Unity of Tribes-Gathering of Eagles Solstice Ceremony. It was held on Chuska Mountain, Mexican Springs, New Mexico, about 30 miles north of Gallup. It was truly life changing for many there, including myself. There were 14 Aussies from down under, including one indiginous Elder. We had a great time. Thank you Holy Ones for all your help and guidance. dcu
