Mars activates and accelerates the pace of events in our lives. People currently going through dynamic activity, a hectic fast-paced period, or having the hardest time the first half of August are Taurus born the third week of May and Geminis born in May and the first week of June, Leos born the third week of August and Virgos born in August and the first week of September, Scorpios born the third week of November and Sag born in November and the first week of December, and Aquarians born the third week of February and Pisces born in February and the first week of March. If you were born in these zones, focus on what constitutes responsible action, given these birth periods show more highly agitated energy than usual.

Mars triggers whatever happens of note in our charts. In August 2007, Mars moves from 27 degrees Taurus through 16 Gemini, activating the Grand Irrationality the second week of August. Though there are a few afflictions, for the most part Mars should help all of us get a lot accomplished due to very favorable aspects to most of the planets.

This Full Moon at 7 degrees Leo-Aquarius occurring at 5:48 pm PDT July 29 will show us permanence and manifest as "a child born out of the cosmic egg," said to be a degree of mutation that frees us from local conditions and indicates an emergence of new life liberated from old karmas and Earth-bound inertias.

As with any retrograde, we are given a chance to do a review, taking a look back at recent developments ruled by the retrograde planets. Mercury RX gives a review of ideas and perceptions, while Venus RX gives us a chance to find a new value or appreciation in what we've recently experienced regarding things and people. When Venus is retrograde it's a great time to reflect on values, relationships, and why we like or don't like whatever or whoever, including our relationship to money, wealth, and things in general, as well as why we value what we do in our relationships, and whether we're working off of old tapes, old hurts, old attachments, and old aversions in relationships that bear no resemblance to what we're living with today.

We will all be experiencing a big shift in several areas of our lives over the next eight weeks, as Saturn moves through the very end of Leo and enters its 2+ year stay in Virgo. This will no doubt be a big relief to any of us who have a planet or significant point in Leo, and it already seems to be a subject of apprehension to those with planets and points in Virgo. Today we take a new look at what Saturn in Leo has brought us all.

Venus is retrograde now through September 8, 2007 offering us many ways to view our Venus function from a different point of view. Besides showing us great opportunities to find a deeper compassion, it also gives us a chance to review and rethink our vanities, our likes and dislikes, and take a new look at old wounds. It may also trigger remembrances of old relationships and see them from our present maturity rather than continue to hold the image of what used to be. Venus is our inner romantic picture of things, people, and ideas, mirrored out to our world. Its glyph, resembling a hand mirror, shows that it symbolizes our vanities and our self-reflected images of beauty. None of these are a bad thing, but we must revise these from time to time lest we be pursuing images that will no longer satisfy our evolved self and life.

Venus will go stationary retrograde 10:27 am PDT July 27, 2007, at 3 degrees of Virgo. Any time Venus goes retrograde it's a great time to reflect on values, relationships, and why we like or don't like whatever or whoever. This includes our relationship to money, wealth, and things in general, as well as why we value what we do in our relationships, and whether we're working off of old tapes, old hurts, old attachments, and old aversions in relationships that bear no resemblance to what we're living with today.

A while ago I gave a talk "What is Astrology?" Of course a comprehensive discussion of that would take several lifetimes, so I tried to keep it focused on the essentials. What follows is a re-posting of a few key elements of my discourse, Eventually I'll repost the audio to the entire talk when I can find the tape again so you can hear what I said first hand.

This is something I wrote as an intro to my ancient website back in the late 90s. I just ran across it in an obscure part of the web, and thought you might like to take a look at where my head was at, and amazingly, still is. I address some of our 21st Century issues and where we're at from a vaster perspective. Given the racheting up of the violence and polarization of the past decade, this modest piece seems precient. I've only edited it to remove references to the old site.
