Mars triggers whatever happens of note in our charts. In September 2007, Mars moves from 16 Gemini through 1 Cancer, triggering a critical turning point in the first of three oppositions to Pluto through March 2008. An early square to Uranus and a Mutable T-square involving Mars opposition Pluto both squared by the Sun from September 14-23 promise to break a lot of stuff loose, bringing endings and peculiar circumstances in a weird movie. Remember that we have two irrationality patterns at play right now, so be adaptable and learn as much as you can from shifting circumstances and strange turns of events.
The Fiery energetics opened at by the Mars-Jupiter-Saturn Grand Fire Trine in June solidified in July and will begin to diversify into many manifestations as Mars moves through Gemini. The opposition to Pluto will bring many things to surface that will require reconsideration in January before they're back on track moving forward in February. Expect things to start slowing as Mars slows down preparing to go retrograde in November. Things related to Aries and Scorpio planets and houses in our charts are now in adaptive, learning mode which is leading us to be good jugglers of new perspectives and information this month.
This month begins with Mars in a tight sextile with Venus now direct in motion in Leo, showing major social productivity all month. As this influence continues in October eventually yielding a quintile in late October into November, this should be an excellent social time, where much is productively furthered in the Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Libra, and Scorpio sectors. Overall this should yield great interactions and excellent opportunities to further all things related to these signs.
After many weeks of traversing points in the Grand Irrationality, Mars will NOT be triggering obsessive-compulsive behaviors again until late April and early May 2008, which is a great thing. Of course, other planets will, which I cover in the Spiritual Astrology in September-October 2007 Pt. 1 - Jupiter Biseptile Saturn Exteriorizing Forces of Destiny. If you haven't already taken a look at them, please also check out Spiritual Astrology in September-October 2007 Pt. 2 - Uranus Retrograde and Pluto Direct Affecting Long Term Eclipse Patterns, with Neptune Retrograde Bringing Gifts from Spirit as well as Spiritual Astrology in September-October 2007 affecting Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces - Part 3.
Regarding the on-going Grand Irrationality created by Neptune septile Pluto, all septile series aspects indicate strange choices, crucial decisions, and general edginess and the sense that forces beyond our control are at work. Not necessarily bad, as long as we remember that we may not be able to reason our way through what's happening and the energy doesn't get too crazy or destructive.
This aspect set moves us to make choices that affect our potential "higher destiny." The days when the Moon moves through the 7 trigger zones of the Grand Irrationality will be points when the generic weirdness is triggered, and bring decisions that may not make much sense but have to be made anyway.
Of note the volatile Mars square Uranus culminating in early September at the same time as Sun square Jupiter, showing we have all been thrown into a quest for meaning, learning a new self-projection, and not getting too far out there while minding details and maintaining optimism and humor as we do our journey. The entire second week of September we are blessed by Mercury in Libra in a tredecile with Mars as it sextiles Jupiter, noviles Saturn, and quintiles Pluto.
This should show as a very productive and unique time when gifts fit circumstances, and circumstances fit gifts between our Gemini/Virgo sectors and our Aries/Scorpio sectors. Brilliant flashes of insight or coordination of life affairs should show the way to claiming them as powers when the Sun moves over these degrees as it closes in on its tredecile the third week of October.
Just keep in mind that as the middle of the month passes, we move into the Mutable T-square throwing the void into Pisces. A T-square is integrative. The void of the T symbolizes either the problem or solution or both. How we handle this T-square will be an important key to releasing this energy positively as Uranus moves through the span of 23-27 Pisces from Feb 2008-Jan 2010 and triggers individuation resulting from the crises we'll navigate in September. Consider this a dress rehearsal for applying our "Spiritual Will" during those years.
The Sun making the T-square in Virgo somewhat parallels what we learned last month when Mercury T-squared the Mars opposition Jupiter which also threw the void into Pisces. Great for intuition, closure, forgiveness, and seeing things in a vaster perspective. However, this time the areas most stressed for us are much later in Gemini, Virgo, Sag, and Pisces, so if you were born near the middle of March, June, September, or December, expect a lot to be activated requiring you keep your cool while opening to getting some closure to be followed by unique opportunities to open doors to distant futures.
We're now closing the Sun-Mars cycle that began October 23, 2006 at 30 Libra, a degree of philosophical completion. Another important cycle began in December 2006 with the conjunction of Mars and Jupiter at 4 degrees of Sagittarius, marking the end of the last Mars-Jupiter cycle that began at 1 Libra in late September 2004. The cycle that began in December kicked a new period of expanded activity into motion through February 2009, when they will next conjunct at 10 Aquarius. These larger cycle conjunction points are important in showing us where our outreach will occur in the future.
As noted, Mars begins September in the second half of Gemini, whose keywords are "Restlessness" and "Exteriorization." Dr. Marc E. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this span is Manipulating, Practical, Ingenious, and Generalizing.. It stays in Gemini until September 28, 4:54 pm PDT, when it enters Cancer, moving energies out of the Act of Differentiation (Aries through Gemini) to the Act of Stabilization (Cancer through Virgo). We will be dancing between Gemini and Cancer until March 2008, so get used to learning a lot about how these energies relate to each other.
When it moves into Cancer, Mars will be in a zone whose keywords are "Decision" and "Expansion." Dr. Jones terms this span Sustaining, Critical, Universal, and Specializing in physical, social, and spiritual ways. It will be in the first half of Cancer through the end of the year, so figure the Cancer keywords and qualities will dominate through then, with Gemini dominant in January and February 2008 before Mars again re-enters Cancer and picks these qualities back up.
In September, the Gemini terms and keywords will be seen working most clearly in the Aries and Scorpio houses in our charts, as well as wherever we have Gemini by house. We move this month through diversity, multi-tasking, new curiosity and new discoveries that will lead us to major decisions in October that won't be finalized until March 2008.
We're now over 3/4 of the way in the important Mars-Saturn cycle. As noted in past articles, their last conjunction in June 2006 at 9 Leo indicated
...this 2 year cycle is about authenticity, creativity, play, and reconnecting with our enthusiasm in mature and measured ways wherever we have early Leo in our charts... simplify, stabilize, and see a bigger picture to move into a broader cooperative group purpose. Be a gentle angel, cut back on extravagances as well as pessimism, and find ways to enjoy life without overdoing it... For eleven months, Mars has developed the promise of whatever that conjunction portended for us. The growth process quickened in December... January 2007 showing a natural self-expression of the truth of this cycle... This stabilized the turning point in the larger “destiny cycle” in late November at the biseptile, where important decisions were made and meaningful actions were taken.
February helped us adjust to prepare for whatever surfaced the second week of March when Mars opposed the original conjunction point. This provided us a sense of what needed to change, what has been coming to importance, and what we can expect for some months to come, relative to the lessons that have been presenting themselves since June 2006 in the early Leo area of our charts.
In March, things cut loose in ways that began to bring Spirit to matter, and challenged us to be eager in learning a greater way to live and not take anything for granted. Appreciation was the big keyword, and that theme will continue to be important in June and July 2007 as the gifts continue to come from Spirit. September through December 2007 will be a big time for those who are open to the blessings we've been promised, and followed through on the Neptunian lessons.
This month will be productive in the areas in our charts ruled by Mercury, Venus, and Mars, though by mid-month there will be tremendous pressures to change directions, shift gears, or do something different in the areas ruled by Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces due to the T-square. Things may be fracturing in a big way, but have faith, trust intuition, and don't procrastinate!
Take care of details and stick to proven methods as you navigate the on-again, off-again jagged edges of the Sun square Mars being made more extreme by their relationship with Pluto. It's the end of the end for some things in our lives, we've got to get beyond some inhibitions in ourselves and/or others, and not let things get too extreme, coercive, forceful, or destructive. There's so much positive Fire and Air energy that it would be a shame to crash when we could be moving along pleasantly and smoothly preparing for harmony to come in October.
In Part 2 we'll explore how the Mars stress zones are affecting each individual sign.
