Mars activates and accelerates the pace of events in our lives. People currently going through dynamic activity, a hectic fast-paced period, or having the hardest time the entire month of November are Aries, Cancers, Libras, and Capricorns born the first few days of April, July, October, and January. If you were born in these zones, focus on what constitutes responsible action, given these birth periods show more highly agitated energy than usual.
Mars tests us to get a grip on our energy and shows us how well we are demonstrating self-control or not. Mars is our "fight or flight" principle, and symbolizes what aggravates us, so beware of hasty action, argumentativeness, or impulsiveness. A way to use what I post here is that if you know your chart, examine the effect for the signs in light of planets you have in these signs.
For instance, if you have Mercury around 10-15 degrees of a Cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), examine the challenges relative to your mind, interpretations, or thinking patterns, as well as other planets influenced by Mercury. If you have Venus in those degrees of Cardinal signs, examine what is said in light of your likes and dislikes and other Venus-influenced areas in your chart.
If you have a Cardinal sign Mars between those degrees, regard what is stated in the context of Mars-ruled affairs and activities. This shows an important shift in your Mars cycle, so heads up! You can also apply what follows regarding this month if you have an Ascendant (Rising sign) between 10 and 15 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn. You can even safely expand the exact zone of influence a couple of degrees farther forward, as well as the entire first half of the Cardinal signs.
This expanded orb of influence is because the first 12 degrees of these signs were highly energetically impacted in October, important since December mirrors those exact degrees of Cardinal signs, but the retrograde will show us different perspectives in the energies of those experiences, of show us how we need to rework or redo something in our method of "attacking" life's problems and challenges. This month is a "sea change," a crest and forward look while preparing to retrace the ground of October back to mid-September before doing it all one last time in February and March 2008.
While the rest of this article deals with how Mars will specifically impact certain signs and birthdays, please remember to relate what is said here to yesterday's Stress Zones article, as it introduces primary considerations about the overall influence of Mars this month.
Whatever is said about these signs born at these times of the month applies to the same signs born later in April, July, October, and January. Aries, Cancers, Libras and Capricorns born later in those months will be going through this in the Spring of 2008, so they should consider this a dress rehearsal of sorts.
The entire month Aries born in late March and early April are seeing the first emergence of something begun late May or early June 2007. This month shows you the threshold of a new life direction or the beginnings of new ways of expressing yourself, so get grounded, and remember that "as the roots, so the flowers." You will begin to shore up your foundations, reviewing what works with an eye to taking care of your needs in a different way than before now. This will profoundly impact the new beginnings that will actually launch in March and April 2008.
Effort now affects future success. Since Mars is your ruler and now in Cancer, don't allow hassles or aggravations around the home or with family to put you off, and be a good communicator. You'll get new insights into how you view your early life and family situation, or review old hassles and challenges to see what you need or how to nurture yourself to secure your foundations. Just try not to get aggravated by neighbors and expect intense activity around the home.
Arians need to be less abrupt in communicating, less aggressive or hassled by neighbors, being more thoughtful and considerate. Avoid impulsive or blunt responses. Be fair, just, and balanced in your assessments, see things from several points of view, and be diplomatic, mature, and responsible in owning your part of any interaction. This affects Aries' way of viewing their self image, their physical body, their desires, their magnetism, and how they deal with shared or social values and resources.
In November, Cancers born in late June and early July confront the end of a 2-year cycle, so begin anew with an eye to what culminated in May 2007 of the cycle that began April 2006. This month quickens even as it slows things down, so be patient in applying new skills and strengths, and face a future that's already underway but is still on hold for awhile. Quickly finish what you need to, realize an old way of life is over, and there is a need for new effort and directions.
This month you may feel like you're living with constant tension, or the spur of necessity, but slow down, be deliberate, see the long view of what is to come and what must be done beginning this coming March and April after you rework some motives, karma, and attitudes. Since it continues to be a time of endings and beginnings, embrace the new, get ready for the pace to quicken, and try not to be too blunt, impulsive, or abrasive. Definitely don't leap before you look.
This primarily affects all Cancers in the areas of profession, public standing, how you're perceived by others, self-expression, children, and pleasures. These are ending somehow, and a new two year pulse is opening up. Be thoughtful but not touchy, self-initiating without impulsiveness or haste.
November fulfills an old cycle for Libras born in late September and early October. This period is one of following through on what's culminating in your public or professional affairs in the cycle that began September 2006. Learn as much as you can, prepare, then be willing to take responsibility, since this is a very high profile time for you. It may be that it feels like you're backtracking somewhat, and definitely slowing down, so be mature as you figure out what and how to reorganize whatever you need to.
Libras should follow through on what is culminating in their public and professional sector, take responsibility, do their duties, and remember others are observing them. Libras should learn how to be more naturally themselves and unedited in their self-expression, be more decisive, responsible and take the long view into account. This will primarily affect Libra in the areas of equalness in relationships, money, values, and how they use what they have or how they capture what they need to sustain their self-image.
Inf November, Capricorns born in late December and early January are tested not to get aggravated, sidestep oppositional people, and decrease agitation or impulsiveness while correcting things that began January 2007. This is a threshold state, and you get to revisit some work or health issues before you enter into your new world or how you relate and who you relate to in the Spring of 2008.
People with these birthdays are moving through a period of tensions in relationships, and have had to shift in how they regard their health, work, or how to serve your world. If this applies to you, detach from relationship dramas that scatter you. Avoid unnecessary confrontations and don’t get hassled by impulsive, abrasive, aggressive or argumentative people. You stand on the edge of seeing future foundations, a new home, a new way of being with your loved ones, so rethink things of the past few weeks to prepare for new beginnings in Spring.
For Capricorns in a relationship, it's an intense time for your partner. This is opening new doors of perceiving and acting with others where you are an equal rather than a follower or reactor to them. For Capricorns, areas coming to surface include new ways of relating to their home and family, their past, their friends, goals and ambitions, as well as larger more effective forms of group work and/or world service.
Capricorns should embrace new ways of relating to others, since this time is a breakthrough in your way of being in relationships, and allow others to take the initiative in new ways of expressing themselves. You are finding new forms of self-expression and self-adjustment to practical necessities.
This month the quincunx effect significantly influences 11-15 degrees of Sagittarius and Aquarius. Quincunxes are associated with physical, emotional, or mental health issues requiring sacrifices and adjustments. Thus this month most impacts Sagittarians born around November 30-December 2 and Aquarians born around January 28-31.
Through the quincunxes, Sagittarians will have sacrifices and adjustments in the areas of loss, regeneration, shared values and wealth that will help them learn focus, discrimination, attention to details and procedure. They will learn how to get their magnetism and desires straightened out and eliminate that which cannot be carried into a future already taking shape. Aquarians will also have sacrifices and adjustments in the areas of work, health, and those they do service for or who do service for them that will whatever needs to be done.
In November, Tauruses born between May 18-21 and Leos born between August 19-22 are extraordinarily affected by the Mars semisquare to their Suns. The semisquare is a 45 degree aspect indicating internal crises of direction, or a sense that something is beginning to open (or close) with decisions to be made. They show important factors regarding things that are emerging or ending, and offer information about hidden or unconscious influences at work.
For Taurus birthdays mentioned above, new developments and challenges in the cycle that began in July-August 2007 don't have to be a problem if you become more visionary, adaptable, future oriented, organized and mature in your values and relationship to things and money. Leo people with birthdays mentioned above need to end some things they began in July-August 2006, so capture the harvest and close out what you need to without getting aggravated at friends or the goals that you couldn't fulfill.
Leo people are entering a fallow period where you'll need to do closure rituals, preparing for a new cycle to come in June 2008. However, due to Mars going retrograde in mid-Cancer this month and moving back into late Gemini in January 2008, you may have to re-do, undo, or rearrange something concerning your sense of the future, your education, your home, your family, or revisit something of your early life, getting prepared to pick up the pace in February or March 2008 when Mars is direct.
As I've explained the past few months, sometimes Mars' influence extends far beyond whatever is going on in the sky. Notably, the Mars article from November 2006 offers an insight into why things are changing the way they are. It played a major part in last Autumn's eclipses still in force at present, and we now stand at the culminating productivity and specialization in Cancer of what was set into motion when everything was in late Virgo August-September 2006. As I wrote then:
Since the Mars degree of the recent September 2006 Lunar Eclipse is highly active and was also the exact degree of the Solar Eclipse take note of what is liberating you from a previously "narrow destiny" and hear the call that can help you joyously rise to some larger occasion. Here's an article about the September 2006 Solar Eclipse in terms of its general meaning and effect, while in this article you can find out what it means for each sign specifically. December 2006 and January 2007 mark turning points in the liberation process.
Signposts of future developments connected with 30 Virgo presented themselves in late March-early April 2007, with important points occurring the second and last weeks of May 2007and September 2007. Expect more definitive developments in December 2007 through early April 2008.
June through November 2008 shows Pluto exactly square the degree, Saturn conjunct the point in October 2009 and April through July 2010 opposed by Uranus April 2010 through March 2011, setting up some fairly volatile developments. Escaping from a "narrow destiny" may be destabilizing, but it's also guaranteed to put you and your dharma on track and remind you that life on Earth is one of endless change.
More from the 2006 Eclipse article:
In December, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter all conjuncted... Wherever we have Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Pisces energies, they were fused and renewed in whatever house we have early Sagittarius... a very important area of major focus and attention in the next two years for us. I hope you enjoyed December and January since the wild ride accelerated toward a more amazing vision, freedom, and group involvement than we've known in a long time. Welcome to February through June 2007, the edge of dynamic change!
As I've noted previously, Mars activated the March Lunar Eclipse Sun conjunct North Node position around April 21-22 when it conjuncted that point. This launched the next phase of that eclipse, and the simultaneous triseptile to Saturn triggered an important fork in our destiny helping us dump old social rigidities and find joy in fellowship despite the general tension.
Mars in the Grand Fire Trine in June brightened up our lives in multiple areas, assisting understanding, harmony, and flow. Mars helped us secure a new momentum even as we navigated the twists and turns of the multiple septile series aspects between the visible and invisible planets.
July showed us major changes in our direction or intention, where we left behind old paths while entering into new, if unknown futures. Of course, we've been preparing for some time, so don't sweat the changes as we continue to move into unknown worlds. By now we've all had opportunities to secure what we need for further effectiveness, and had openings to new information, new perspectives, and new ways of adapting to what is last month.
As Mars goes retrograde, try not to get hassled by the change of pace since this is a threshold for all that will come in early 2008. As I mentioned earlier, September was the first pass through late Gemini, and showed signals for what to expect this coming January and February 2008 when it retrogrades back into late Gemini, goes stationary direct at 25 Gemini in late January 2008, and then moves forward staying in that sign until early March 2008.
In September we had to learn, explore, exteriorize our discoveries and see what had to be pruned because of decisions we've made, decisions we're making, decisions we're going to reconsider, and decisions that will be final by March 2008. When Mars entered Cancer in October, we were shown major reorientations and a lot of new work to be done. As with last month, keep and open mind and an open heart, prepare and adjust, and welcome what comes since we continue inevitable major shifts this month that we need to review and rework so that we can move forward in our new life orientation next Spring.

Hi Robert,
Mars will be going retrograde soon in my 8th house. How will this aspect/affect my chart and what sort of energies can I expect?
Thanks for being there! : )

Oh boy I wonder how to interpret that quincux to my sun which is at 15 degrees sag....Thanks for this post. I am going to start searching out what quincuxes do to the sun.

hi Robert, thanks i just want to know where the quincuxes to sag between 10 to 15 degrees are coming from. That is what planets that are transiting are applying the quincux stress to my sag sun. I forgot to ask. sorry and thanks again for your brilliant article.

Hi Chickie - Soon you'll get clear. For now, mangia! Too many things going from RX to direct or vise versa to get bent.
Hi Lori - It can mean 10,000 things, depending. Re-think some of your habits, and find ways to slow down before you jump to conclusions. Take a new look at your health issues and how your feelings are or are now bringing you your desires. Could be a slow time in your work, which would seem perfect given your situation.
Hi Micheline - Because this article is about Mars, it's that planet which is making the waning quincunx to mid-Sag.

I have only been following your work for a few months but I have to say you are pretty damn good. 99% of what you are stating is occurring right now, its rather difficult. However I am learning things. Such is life. Today I was supposed to start a new job, but I am getting over the flu instead for example.. Anyways, due to all the recent irrational energies I am not sure what to be doing or that any decision I make is productive in anyway whatsoever. I am wondering about travel come december/january. Would it be intelligent to stay put, or is it too hard to say?

Hi Robert : )
What I was wondering, is since my natal Mars in Virgo has good aspects to it ... when Mars goes retrograde in my 8th house how will it generally aspect the rest of my chart? What general over view, lessons, energy to expect?
I remain confident that I'll find good work soon.
I'm very much into Holistic health so health seems good right now. Habits have been getting re thought and re worked for some time now ... I'm a work in progress.
I heard someone once say "I draw strength from my solitude". I'm someone who is happy around others but also happy when it's just me. I have to have my space. I can comfortably relate to the above statement. There's a social side to me but another side that likes to pull in like a turtle in it's shell for restoration and balance at times.
My quiet time is my going within and thinking time. My spiritual path has always been on the introspective "from the inside out" side. Lessons of focus along the way ... the balance of my needs vs others and the social vs the introspective.
That's why I hope to move back to the mountains from the city one day. I love the peace, solitude, beauty, serenity and tranquility of the forest up there. The silence up there is fine with me. I like to be able to live in the mtns and work in the city as both contribute different things - it's a balance for me. I'm not really the full time city type as I've been the past 2.5 years since the separation and divorce, but it's brought many lessons.
My preference is to work in the city (wages are better than the mountain areas) and to retreat to the mountains as I did for 11 years. I like having the physical space of the mtns around me. It's two completely, totally different life styles living in the city vs living in the mountains.
Anyway ... it's what I hope/prefer to get back to. It's what I want/desire. Of that I am clear. I'd much rather hear a Bull Elk bugle at 2 am and wake me up than an ambulance.
I am learning ... just wondered what the general aspects will be to my chart while Mars in Virgo is retrograde in the 8th house. Jupiter goes in the 2nd house November 17.

Hi April 7 - Sure. Been at this awhile, so I would hope I get most of it somewhat right! ;-) I wouldn't travel the few days before or after New Years due to too many oppositions. Expect lots of chaos this coming holiday travel season. Whether you should travel or stay put is going to be affected by many things in your chart, though much of the generic chaos will pass by the second week of January.
Hi Lori - I cannot go into such detailed personal analysis in a comment stream. You want way too much for what I'm able to do here.
Posted by: Robert | November 05, 2007 at 03:51 PM
Hi Robert,
Great article, although I've been reading your articles, not posted anything for a while. I am Aries Sun Libra Ascendant, everything in the houses is opposite - Cancer is in 10th house MC (born 1950 getting old-er!) been going through turbulent time employment wise although its been OK up to now. Been thinking about moving house for probably the last 20 years!(Moon in Taurus) and now really really getting motivated to get organised around moving - maybe this is a sign I've been waiting for.
What I also find interesting is the astrology connections between families, for example my daughter Mel has Cancer Sun and Aries Ascendant and just this week she has gained a higher employ position working with a motor vehicle company (her Aries ascendant). Her personality is quite extravert with a kind loving heart - I see myself as being more introspective on the outside with much inner strength.

So I am having a particularly difficult time this month. My boyfriend and I just broke-up (he is an Aquarius and I am a Sagittarius). I did it, but it kind of came out of the blue following an excellent four months and one month of him isolating himself. I think there may be some Libra involvement from his ex-girlfriend, but I am not sure how much that is playing in? I feel confused about where to go with him. This is the second time we dated. The first was several years ago and ended in a similar manner. Thank you for any help in advance.

Hi Kristine - Welcome back to the public graffiti wall in our cantina. Also glad you're a typical 1950 survivor - seems that vintage had a lot to deal with! Jupiter in Cap in 2008 should be good for moving. I've done a lot of work with families about what traits were passed from grandparent to grandchildren, which were not "inherited" from the parents, and so forth. One of the most interesting branches of astrology! We all get strengths and blind spots from our heritage, and by knowing what came from where we have the chance to understand genetic lineage strengths and weaknesses.
Hi Lori - Well, it's just there are so many things to analyze and so little time, given I'm still in the middle of a life move, trying to begin the foundations of the future center here.
Hi Ruth - Sorry you're dealing with a breakup, but then again, it opens the door to better relations with a true friend in the future. Stop worrying about things that can't be solved by your worrying! I would wait to be courted, rather than try to figure out things on the basis of what you don't know. It sounds like you need to read "The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn" and reject all tentative or unclear images arising from plates in your subconsciousness that are jamming your gears. You could attract a true life friend. Uncertainty is a signal to redirect your consciousness toward clarity and attracting someone more perfect for who you are. If he shows up again, he could be a mate, but obviously has a lot of work to do since he hasn't recognized you.

Thanx Robert, yep still here and have learnt heaps from life and thanks for the tip on good time to move - gee its nearly 2008! - 'traits passed on from grandparents to grandchildren' hmm that'l give me something to think about for a while. Hope all the good traits have been passed on.

Hi Robert,
Sounds like an interesting month is unfolding... With Cardinal signs between those degrees in Mercury (Aries), Moon (Cap), and Uranus (Libra) I have been feeling a little edgy and irritable. Basically just trying to breathe deeply and take time for myself away from anything that will make it worse!
Hope all is well with you :)

Hi all - Doing as well as can be expected, given the work load. I'll be glad when my move is completed and I can begin work on my next book, my garden, and my intended centers, both real and virtual. But that's for 2008! For now, it's time to maintenance swamp coolers and such.

Hi Robert - I became very snippy lately. I don't sense it as much, it just jumps out of me like a sting, all I feel is some frustration, while others tell me I became intolerant. Is it just me, what do you think? Do I need a mentor? Thank you.
Posted by: Larissa | November 09, 2007 at 04:56 PM
Hi Larissa - Well, your ruler Mars stationary RX in Cancer provides some of the emotional tension, but there are many possible things that could also be contributing.

Hi Robert,
Things are definely looking up for me. My new boss fixed my home computer so be on the lookout for more and more posts from me.
I have one question, does certain times of the time affect certain sun signs differently? For me, the time starting in November through end of March I call the "dark time." I always disliked this time of the year. Would that fact that I'm a Leo have something to do with it? (Sun in Scorpio squaring my Sun?) Is it that I am beginning a yearly cycle. I notice once the Sun in Aquarius finishes its opposition, I feel a lot better.
Am I making any sense?
Glad to be back.
Peace,
Helen
P.S. It is amazing how acurate your reading was for me!

Robert,
What do you think about someone filing for divorce during a Mars retrograde? My husband and I have Mars in Cancer (in the 11th) opposing the Moon (in the 5th) in our composite chart, with S. Node conj. retrograde Mercury, Saturn, and Venus all in Aries in the 7th & 8th houses. Or, would it be better for me to wait until Mars goes direct? Any words of advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Blessings,
Shelley

Thank you, Robert. It seems Mars Rx in Cancer is not my cup of tea.
also a lot of restrictions, boundaries recently limit my actions. I can hardly tolerate restrictions. It is so hard. I force myself to be obedient to all this. and each time i force myself to follow their rules - something dies in me. Excersing being patient is not that easy. Uh.
Posted by: Larissa | November 10, 2007 at 04:45 PM
Hi Helen - Congrats on getting back into cyberspace. Yes, different times affect different signs. Fire signs need a lot of light and warmth, and I've heard over the years that the Fire tribe is often temporarily afflicted with seasonal affective disorder. Of course there are antidotes for these generalized conditions. This is a difficult time of the year for many due to multiple conditions. And in Aquarius the days are already getting much longer and brighter, again favoring a more "sunny" disposition. For countless beings across time, going into Spring has always been more of an "up" time than going into Winter.
Hi Shelley - This is a much more complicated question than can be answered off the cuff in a comment stream. The launching of any contract, or any legal action, should be planned carefully so that there are minimum hassles, which may or may not have to do with Mars RX. Definitely slow down the process, make sure potential misunderstandings about Cancer things are discussed, and try to get your mutual house rulers in harmony.
Hi Larissa - You're learning a lot about detachment and seeing how not to waste energies in spinning your wheels.

Hi Robert,
You gave me some advice re: Grand Cross-Sun,Moon,Jupiter,Chiron, 3rd, 6th,9th,12th houses and trans Neptune). Thanks for that. Your point about letting go of "obsolete thinking" really struck a cord. I relate this to what we are taught to think is true, as opposed to what is really true, at a personal level. We are "taught" that family and friends have our best interests at heart, well that depends on the individuals and the quality of relationship, it can't be taken as a given. I have learnt that there are those who want nothing to change and will protect the status quo at all costs, particularly when this involves breaking destructive patterns.I have learnt that I can only rely on myself and I am only responsible for myself, how other people feel is their business and visa versa, my inner masocist has picked up her marbles and said. "I don't want to play anymore". Oddly, I feel free, rather than sadly alone...and this is a good thing. The situation I am involved in only concerns adults, who believe me,are better resourced and have better health than I do. No blood on my hands...sounds a bit scorpionic...what a moon!!!

Robert,
Thanks for your input on my hopelessly complicated question ;) Filing for divorce is just one of those things that there is never really a "good time" for, and I certainly don't want to make it any harder for either one of us than I have to! I'll be reading your immensely helpful articles very closely and then just following my gut on exactly when, unless my husband decides to file before me- and then no need to worry about it! His Mercury is retrograde and he proposed during a Mercury retrograde. We got married in the exact same degree of Mercury in Scorpio after it went direct (we "almost" eloped- told our parents before we left). We've separated twice now, once right before and once right after Mercury retrograde in the same sign- Scorpio. So, the timing has been really weird in our engagement/marriage/separation to start with! Thanks again for your wonderful articles- they really do keep me going through tough times like these...
Namaste,
Shelley

Hi d3mill - Yes, well, sometimes even those who actually DO have our best interests at heart mess up, due to their human-ness. The blind leading the blind and all that. That's why I wrote the article on intuition and how to know if things are really true. I don't know if we can take anything as a given, except the Three Truths, whether mine or the higher ones. Systems don't easily change, and never change if they think it will threaten the preexisting rules and assumptions of the system. Saturn teaches us that we are responsible only for our own responses and we cannot control anyone else's. I don't think it's masochistic to withdraw from losing situations, in fact, it's the opposite!
Hi Shelley - Looks like your name got mangled. As for your timing, while there are actually "better" times to file legal papers, for now it might be better to slow things down if you can, since we have holidays coming. Unless there's a pressing need to move forward with this, you may want to dodge the oppositions between Mars and Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, and Pluto coming up over the next 7 weeks. I would suspect that if things are governed by a Mercury RX in your charts, well, the next one is in late January 2008, so plan accordingly. Just be as kind as you can, detach as best as you can, see larger possibilities of enjoying life and generate as much positivity as you can, since there's no percentage in doing the opposite. The holidays are usually difficult for many, so in the midst of the general atmosphere, please take it easy on yourself and love yourself the best you're able. Having had more than one divorce this life myself, while never pleasant it's not the end of the world, and actually frees up the subconsciousness to embrace more fulfilling possibilities in personal freedom and autonomy. If you had the rest of your life to live, how would you want to live it, freed from the ghosts and restraints of the past? That may be the best holiday gift you could give yourself.
Posted by: Robert | November 15, 2007 at 06:00 AM
Robert,
Waiting until January "feels" better. Also makes a lot of sense, since every major shift surrounding our marriage has happened right before, during, or after a Merc Rx. Thank you for pointing that out. Yes, I'm trying to make something positive out of this entire experience, and as gently as I can. Today is our 7-year anniversary (can anyone say, "Saturn Cycle"- the average length of a marriage that ends in divorce is 7 years, from what I've read- 7 year itch?), and Mercury is same degree that it was when we got engaged and later married. Divine Timing always blows my mind...
Peace & Blessings,
Shelley
