Today we take a brief glimpse of how Mars retrograde could impact the various signs. We've discussed some general traits, as well as possible ways this could manifest for good or bad. We've taken a look at the degree points and spans involved, and what it could mean in general for everyone. It is a complex time, but also one where much could get accomplished on an emotional level to provide a safe platform to take care of our needs in the future.
And now a brief note on how this time will impact the signs:
Aries and Aries Rising - This impacts your self image, physical body, magnetism, desires, and how you're relating to power, collective values and shared resources. You're retracing early life patterns, and seeing your past from a different angle. Slow down, don't jump to conclusions, or be too sharp in speech as you express things you've kept in check up to now, and prepare for new conditions around your home, family, and environment. Take care of dietary needs.
Taurus and Taurus Rising - This impacts your motives, personal and business partnerships, behaviors that bring rewards or sorrows, and your way of relating to others who are your equals. You're very sensitive these days, so take a new look at how you are or are not expressing your needs and what you need to possess to feel complete. Look at past indulgences and find a new way to learn how to take care of your needs, both personal and intellectual.
Gemini and Gemini Rising - This impacts your friendships, goals, work, ambitions, health, and group involvements. You started new initiatives in these areas recently, and now are realizing you have deeper needs and feelings than you thought. Become more content with the process, focus on what is needed in the now, and stop fretting over the past. Make amends. You don't want to take some of these feelings into your new life, so be kind in caring for what you need to.
Cancer and Cancer Rising - This impacts your profession, public standing, ways of having fun, children, self-expression, and spontaneity. Stop jumping around so impulsively - pause and take time to feel recent endings and beginnings. You can now get new perspective on things that bugged you in the past, and probably need to meditate a lot as you cut back on whatever is draining you. This is sharpening your focus and responses so you'll be more effective in 2008.
Leo and Leo Rising - This impacts your future, your higher vision of Truth, as well as your roots, home, foundations, and how you view your early life. Take a look back on recent friendship shifts, and see how they are or are not nurturing your hopes and dreams. You could find an old friend again, or rethink a group initiative while achieving a greater clarity and focus on what you really care about. See a new application for how you've been educated the past few years.
Virgo and Virgo Rising - This impacts your attitude, environment, way of interpreting and communicating, and how you're relating to power, collective values, and shared resources. You get a chance to revisit recent professional or public shifts, and reclaim what you care about while taking one more look at how you've prepared for what has been and will continue to be for quite a while. Rethink your friendships and what you aspire to, and be more caring and flexible.
Libra and Libra Rising - This impacts your values, resources, how you use what you have, and your way of relating to personal and business partnerships and others who are your equals. Take a new look at your needs, and see who is and is not supporting you in caring for yourself according to your feelings. You've prepared for a new future, feeling a higher aspiration and Truth, and reeducated. Regenerate a new point of view based in what you care about rather than deferring to others.
Scorpio and Scorpio Rising - This impacts your self image, physical body, health, work, and those in your service. You're going to have stronger feelings than usual - focus on taking care of some neglected needs you've put off up to now. It's regeneration time, physically, emotionally, and mentally. Try to see things from others' points of view, be more gentle and caring, and eliminate everything that is an indulgence leading you places you don't need to go emotionally.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius Rising - This impacts your self expression, children, ability to play and have fun in life, as well as your motives and behaviors that bring rewards or sorrow. Those you're with may be more touchy than usual, so be sensitive in your humor and how impulsively you respond to their concerns. They may need your optimism rather than a flurry of activity going everywhere and nowhere. Make thoughtful adjustments around what surfaced recently in your life.
Capricorn and Capricorn Rising - This impacts your home, family, early life habits and memories, goals, friendships, and larger worldly ambitions. You need to care more about some things you recently cruised past. Find a new point of view that can help you play at your work and work at your play and don't take recent kerfluffles so seriously. Make adjustments in how you care about your health, and take more time to read and think about what could give you more pleasure in life.
Aquarius and Aquarius Rising - This impacts your attitude, interpretations, siblings, profession, and public standing. Take a look at how your natural self-expression is or is not expressing your feelings and what you deeply care about. You may need to show more concern, caring, or nurture for a young one, or reconnect with what makes you feel naturally happy. By February you'll have a whole new mode of self-expression. Take care of your health through feeling what your body needs.
Pisces and Pisces Rising - This impacts your sense of Truth, your future, your values, resources, and how you use what you have. You're learning a focused fluidity by re-experiencing some familiar feelings from your past and coming to know how to move through intensified caring in a different way. Recent new developments need reconsideration to see if they're really taking care of what needs nurture. Get a lot done around the home, but slow down a little and don't get too scattered.

Hi Robert.
I extract, as you already said, that this is a time for refining ourselves in Mars-related areas, and then go ahead practically with the new skills or conclusions when Mars returns to direct motion.
Right?.
What it's harder for me to understand is the houses-placement. Well, we all have the "teaching" that the Rising builds up our houses pattern, thus I have a very clear idea that this Mars occurs totally in my 8th (cause it is moving in the degrees span in my 8th).
But when it is time to read the "Solar Houses", as we could practice in your wonderful article, how do we measure this houses?. For example, my Sun is in the last degree of Cancer. Well, then I must assume -in Solar language- that by means of sign this Mars is following through my 1st and 12th Solar houses?. And I've got a big Leo stellium, then, for the areas related -Saturn, Mercury, Venus, MC, ...- I would have to understand that this energies affect this stellium from the 12th and 11st houses, and so on.
I know astrology is wide and wide, but is a little question that arise in my mind: isn't that enough to look what your Rising marks clearly?. If not, how do we fix house positions through our Sun Sign without taking account of the Rising?. It's really meaningful to read planetary energies that don't affect directly your planets -but of course your houses- from a Sun Sign approach?.
Thanks Robert.
(Sorry if this is another topic's question, I think it will be very clarifying for most of us).

Hi Robert,
Interesting thing happened to me over the weekend:
Leo and Leo Rising: You could find an old friend again..
On Saturday, out of the blue, my best friend from childhood came into town and called me up. I hadn't seen her in at least twenty-nine years as she moved to Dallas. We are going to start communicating again. Aren't computers and the internet wonderful?
Peace,
Helen
PS Who says Astrology doesn't work?

Hi Robert,
Should we use our natal sign or progressed sign when reading these? I was born Capricorn but now am Aquarius.
Thanks,
B.

Hi Henry - Yes, to a degree. Some things cannot be put on hold. Solar houses are equal house. In your case each cusp has 30 degrees of the sign on it. So no, Mars is in your Solar 12th rx'ing back to your solar 11th.
Hi Helen - There could be more so stay tuned. Glad you got to reconnect with an old friend.
Hi Bryan - You should read your natal Sun sign, as well as natal Rising Sign.

Hi Robert,
Is it me or have people since the Mars RX have all of a sudden gotten testy?
Peace,
Helen

Hello Robert,
I did get the new job in the Legal field a week ago and have returned to work. Thus far Mars Retrograde in my 8th house (Mars in Virgo is well aspected natally) has been both positive and productive.

Dear Robert,
First, let me congratulate you on your blog and its philosophy. I will become a regular reader.
Secondly, being born 6/14/50 chicago 11:42 am., I relate to your generational approach.
Thirdly, I'd like to comment that having a natal libra mars in my first house, I have found the transits of mars to be one of my best friends. It seems to me that the key to personally watching any transit is to know what house it is transiting in one's chart. then look to progressions of moon and its house and then all appropriate aspects. I'm actually looking forward to mars traveling back through my tenth house!

Hi Helen - Yes, many have become testy in my experience. Also rude, presumptuous, and/or passive aggressive. But they were that way before now. All Mars RX is doing is bringing these to the surface.
Hi Lori - Congrats on the new job. May it lead to even better things.
Hi Donna - Welcome to the cantina. Please do visit regularly, since I post a lot. And of course, browse the archives and you'll find other articles that are still relevant and timely for understanding the bigger picture of what's happening to us all. You've gotten it exactly right with checking out what house(s) a planet is affecting by transit while understanding that gestalt within the framework of the progressed Moon and other progressions.
