You probably don't need reminding, but this is a time of many oppositions with the added energy of the Full Moon bringing many things to a head, so expect internal and external polarizations and realizations. This very strong storm of oppositions we're dealing with began in mid-December and will last through early January.
Adding to the general vibe, we've also been dealing with Venus square Neptune which usually brings conflicted impressions or challenging circumstances in our interactive reality. We're all learning heart and stability, simplifying things to achieve what movement is possible in these trying times.
Another major influence (besides the recent conjunctions to Pluto, purifying and intensifying the long wave process) is the conjunction of Sun and Jupiter on the critical degree of 1 Capricorn. All the first degrees of Cardinal signs are said to be "critical," as they usher in a season as well as a Lunar Mansion, an ancient way of measuring time according to phases of the Moon. This conjunction just illuminated and vitalized our Sag and Pisces sectors in ways that should show to be very empowering wherever it fell.
The blessings come from this Full Moon conjuncting Mars with all opposed to Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter being relieved through the Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter quintile Uranus which is tredecile the Moon and Mars. For more on these aspects, please go to this article. This can bring fortunate confrontations with our unused inner power or some part of our psyche we've neglected. Be gentle as you reconnect with deeper parts of you that can make manifest powerful elements of your inner nature and its gifts.
Another favorable part of what's happening is the Full Moon in a sextile-trine with Saturn in early Virgo, assisting us to find unique forms of self expression as a result of quickening the pace, dropping everything that is unnecessary for us to achieve what we need to. So simplify, get to the heart of the matter, take a new look at how to use power effectively, and open to unique realizations and forms of expression. Get an elevated view of a bigger picture, and you could find yourself in a very high state of realizing the interconnections between things.
Since we're still moving through the heart of the zone, use this time of oppositions and polarizations quickly shifting from one point to another to learn adaptation skills, coping skills, and good surfing skills. When in doubt, slow it down, take a new look at everything connected to anger, frustration, impulsiveness, and impatience, and come to a new self discipline and maturity around the wise use of power.
I hope you all had a great Solstice, are having as good a holiday season as you can, and are using the occasional disruptions to go deeper into your compassion, your heart strength, your discipleship discipline, and your appreciation for all that you've been given, are being given, and will be given in times to come.

Thanks for this heartening essay! It's hard not to struggle against all this opposition (and the opposing planets are all squaring my natal Sun & Venus!) so I appreciate your ability to describe the benefits & opportunities in the challenges! I check your blog regularly!

Hi Cathy - Thanks for checking in. Though it's also been arduous for me and some others I know, I appreciate your positive response to what I offer on how to deal with this very weird energy.
HI Micheline - And a very merry Christmas and holiday season to you as well!
Hi Shireen - Sure. I'm sure you're going through changes, and even now sensing a greater purpose. Keep the initiative going, dare to present yourself to your world in a new dramatic fashion, and decide whatever you need to in order to use your deep insights and self discipline to be a pioneer in some new way perfect for you. Blessings to you as well!

Hi Robert,
After the clouds parted last night just after 8:00 I saw the Moon/Mars conjunction and it was spectacular. Mars was right next to a blindingly bright Moon. The most amazing thing was that my dog who has been so sick came around yesterday and is risen from the dead. I still don't know what was wrong with him (we thought he had cancer but he didn't). He's tired but back to his old self again. Eating, pooping, wagging his tail, barking at the doorbell. Probably the antibiotics worked but alot of people were so nice to me and praying for him. I even had two offers of financial aid. God works wonders. This must have been a test of faith, among other things. I really thought he was a goner. Praise be to God and all my friends!
Aside from that, nice article about the critical degrees and oppositions. My Mars is 0 deg. 56 min. of Cap so you could say that would impact me...
Merry Christmas and Namaste... :)

Hi Valerie - I saw the Moon conjunct Mars here in New Mexico, and it was an amazing sight! A giant silver perfect glowing orb just above a clear, red "star," almost like a cosmic earring. Or a huge Third Eye over a Throat Chakra laser beam. Glad you've been given more time with your pet. Merry Christmas. Someday all beings pass into the Heavenworld, and you've been given a new lease on loving him every day. Sun conjunct Jupiter on your Mars promises great possibilities in 2008.

Hi Robert,
I met an attorney who is giving me legal advice about the screenplay. I told her to wait until middle of January to take any action. Good idea? This MarsRX in Cancer in my 9th house opposes all the Capicorn planets is in my 3rd house.
If I don't have a chance to post, have a Happy New Year.
Peace,
Helen

Hi Robert,
Any comment on the assasination of Benazir Bhutto? I looked her birthday up real quick, she's a Gemini/Cancer (6/21/53) with Mars in 3 deg. Cancer. Holy cow, she had the full moon, Mars return and the Jupiter/Sun/Pluto opposition all at once. What a shame.

Hi Valerie,
I am still shaking at the thought of Benazir Bhutto being killed. When will the assassins ever learn that when you assassinate someone that you have granted your victim instant martyr status?
Peace,
Helen

Hi H - Thanks for checking in with a great reminder of our immortality. Happy Christmas to the Mystic Isles.
Hi Helen - Well, unfortunately Mercury is about to go RX in late January, but there should be a window around Jan 14-18 where it's good for practical pitches. There are others, depending.
Hi Valerie and Helen - Benazir volunteered to get caught up in the meatgrinder of modern Islamic politics, and so while unfortunate in the extreme, it was somewhat predictable, like Anwar Sadat. Too much hatred and fear not to face facts. I am not sure what can cure the suicidal insanity that grips large segments of the world population, but I do know those of us who strive for goodness, truth, beauty, and peace must make ourselves clear and strong in our compassion and resolve to live our heart's truth so we can outlive and outlast the thanatophiles running rampant in our world.

Yeah, well you're right, Benazir did volunteer, and yeah, it sure is a meatgrinder. I knew she wouldn't last long once she went back home in Oct. I just felt bad, waking up to the news, and when I looked up her birthday well, the aspects were scary. I don't understand the mentality of the extremists, and their apparent devaluation of life. I've been trying to understand eversince 9/11. Me being a Quaker, well....... violence is hard for me to take! It's something to continue to meditate upon. We should hold them in the light, as we say.

Hi Valerie - You have raised some profound ideas with implications for all of us. As an aside, I also attended the Friends' meetings many years ago, as it seemed the only truly pacifist form of Christianity, thus conforming to the practice of the Teacher. The American Friends Service Committee were one of the only sane voices back in the days of 'Nam, given the stridency of both sides. Of course, we are now reaping the fruits of our jingoistic Ignoramus-In-Chief's arrogance, and unfortunately there are many who are killed and going to be killed for no purpose whatsoever.
I've felt tremendous compassion for Benazir over the years, given the numerous disempowering biases against women in that culture. Of course, it is not confined to Islam, since many of the world's religions have to keep women quiet lest the power structure be upset. The mentality of extremists is very linear and excludes more than it includes. Something about narrow minds being like steel traps comes to mind...
I have no explanation other than they are thanatophiles, those who love the idea of death and dying. It may be a fundamental illusion, but it is a potent one. Of course we must love all sentient beings, but not all things are likable, and the idea of people killing others is one of the most unlikable of all. It's time for us to practice loving relationships, not the legalized murder of war by whatever justification. I have no trouble holding suicide bombers in the light of Kali Durga and her necklace of 108 skulls, since they have chosen to practice that energy. May they all go back for reprogramming by our God of Love (In šaʾ Allāh and B'ezrat Hashem!) as soon as possible, and may no one suffer ever again for even one second.

Wow. Excellent. Interesting word, thanatophile, never heard it before. Seems like we have alot of those over here, too, those kids shooting up schools and shopping malls, you know. Well, we can only start with that place where we find ourselves, as Edgar Cayce says. I personally love life in the earth and plan to stick around for as long as I can. Hopefully the more we love unconditionally, the more it will rub off... :)
