In part two we explore more about this phenomenon that occurs three weeks at a time three times a year. At the end of this article I have included a table so you can find which house(s) this January-February 2008 Mercury retrograde period falls in relative to your Sun or rising sign. Then you can consult my article How Does Mercury Retrograde Affect Us In The Different Houses? to find how this transit will affect you personally as a result of Mercury retrograding through the houses in your chart.

I felt that these two poems could sum up a lot of what many are going through now and in the near future, since the first deals with "unveiling" and the second is one of my long time favorites, being Rumi's comment on "spiritual windowshoppers." Many of you will note my affection for the last lines of that one. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do, since there is great wisdom to be found in every line. And of course, I'll be back with more Mercury Retrograde, Year of the Rat, and Spiritual Astrology articles as soon as I can catch up on my correspondence.

This Mercury retrograde starts 12:31 pm PST Jan 28 (Jan 29 in Pakistan and points east) and ends 6:57 pm PST Feb 18 (Feb 19 east of Greenland). This retrograde moves from 24 degrees Aquarius back to 9 Aquarius, with the inferior conjunction of Mercury and the Sun occurring at 18 degrees Aquarius at 10:19 am PST just before the Solar Eclipse on Feb 6-7. This degree is "A Man's Secret Motives Are Being Unmasked" symbolizing the difficulty we have keeping our past, motives, and secrets from public view, and "the introvert's desire to protect himself from social judgment" and "clinging to self valuation." A degree of "Unmasking," Rudhyar also says this degree involves "conservation of experience," perhaps requiring protective agencies to remain relatively unrecognized.

If you’ve noticed I’ve been absent for a few days, well…. There are times in life when things crunch together, whether we want them to or not. I’ve lamented that my life sometimes seems to “interfere” with my work, which of course is a universal human situation. The past 3 weeks have required that I shelve writing while dealing with something disturbing which you need to know about. I’ll be composing articles on Mercury retrograde over the next few days, but for now, here’s the story of an odyssey.

Today we take a new look at why certain days of the week have different qualities. Is "Monday's child fair of face, and Tuesday's child full of grace?" If you've ever wondered if the day of the week you were born mattered, then by all means read on.

Today we take a new look at one of the most enlightened Americans ever to grace our nation, Ralph Waldo Emerson. He was a sage and philosopher of the highest order, and gave young America some major philosophical wisdom cred through his Transcendentalist movement.

Usually what I post falls within the realm of “Western Astrology,” i.e., astrology generally derived from the Greco-Roman-Babylonian model established thousands of years ago. Over the years, Western Astrology has greatly evolved beyond its roots in that era, so that most of what we now know to be "Western Astrology" bears zero resemblance to what our ancestors studied and practiced. Every culture has had its form of astrology, and there are also many other types of astrology practiced in our world. Today we examine elements of Chinese Astrology that we may know more of what we've been through and what is to come.

I thought it might be time to offer you a chance to relisten to my interview with my friend Michele Meiche at Self In Light. This was on her Satellite Radio show "Awakenings" netcast on the Cosmic Dimensions site on Nov 10-11, 2007. We covered a lot of ground, and there's a lot of food for thought. The link to the interview is below the fold.

In Parts 1 and 2 we explored general Spiritual factors of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto bringing forth our Higher Self as we stand individually and collectively at the threshold of a new era. I offered points of particular importance due to major aspect patterns going on in January and February. Today we continue to explore more about the pressure we're under and within, what it means, and how this is impacting us all.

The coming Solar Eclipse will have a very significant impact on us all. All eclipses shut something down, taking away elements of our lives no longer "true" for us. Aquarius is the sign of collective expression, larger ideals, group efforts, and the exteriorization of Leo, the sign of personal love. Thus a form of impersonal love will be shut down, with the void sure to attract new forms of expressing this energy. This eclipse is conjunct Neptune, thus will both trigger and shut down some Neptunian elements of the Grand Irrationality.

By one of my favorite poets, a timeless tale of human presumption, and a reminder that our grandest efforts may be subject to a different view by those who follow us. Something to ponder about our mortality as we travel through ... The Twilight Zone.

January features the Sun in Capricorn, and during January 2008 we also have Jupiter in this Cardinal Earth sign as well as Mercury the first week of the month and Venus in Capricorn the last week of the month. This shows a Capricorn emphasis in our Sag and Pisces areas, as well as Gemini and Virgo areas the first part of the month, and Taurus and Libra areas the last part of the month. Looks like it’s time to get to work!

Long time readers of this community know that January 9 is one of the most sacred days in my entire year. Many years ago I was shipwrecked in hell on that day, leading to a long and arduous journey in finding my way out of indescribable pain and suffering. Today I'll offer you an open letter I wrote to someone having an extremely hard time due to the death of his child.

Yes, he of whom John Lennon said "Before Elvis, there was nothing" would have been 73 today if not for too many pills and peanut butter and banana sandwiches. He was the world's first true superstar, making moves on stage that outraged elders everywhere and excited the young all over the world. Though we mainly know him as a parody of 60s B-movie leering youthfulness rendered obsolete by the Beatles, he was truly electrifying on stage and changed our world forever, blowing the doors open for a whole new way of young hearts to express themselves.

With Uranus and Neptune passing over degree spans rehearsed in 2007, these "spiritual" forces at work move us over familiar territory reviewed in their initial direct, then retrograde phase. Pluto enters Capricorn for the first time since 1762, and like then, after a brief stay will RX back into Sag, finally leaving that sign for the last time this cycle in late November 2008. We're now definitely moving forward, and can use the skills learned in 2007 as Spiritual tools in the months to come.

Jupiter and Saturn translate the energies of the outer Invisible Triad into widespread social influences within which our personalities operate in local conditions, however wide or narrow our field of influence. They show the pulses of inner and outer progress in a larger field of interactive experiences on social, cultural, and global levels. These months they anchor the promise of 2007’s Jupiter in Sagittarius.

A brief note before I begin composing the Spiritual Astrology series for January-February 2008 where you'll find more on the Grand Irrationality at work. For the past few days, and right now, a major configuration is precipitating choices and changes in our lives. Many people are breaking up or coming together and leaving or starting jobs or other new initiatives. If you've noticed any obsessive compulsive behaviors showing up in you or in another, it's due to a powerful nonrational formation involving the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Uranus making for some volatile shifts.
