In part two we explore more about this phenomenon that occurs three weeks at a time three times a year. At the end of this article I have included a table so you can find which house(s) this January-February 2008 Mercury retrograde period falls in relative to your Sun or rising sign. I felt that these two poems could sum up a lot of what many are going through now and in the near future, since the first deals with "unveiling" and the second is one of my long time favorites, being Rumi's comment on "spiritual windowshoppers." Many of you will note my affection for the last lines of that one. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do, since there is great wisdom to be found in every line. And of course, I'll be back with more Mercury Retrograde, Year of the Rat, and Spiritual Astrology articles as soon as I can catch up on my correspondence.

This Mercury retrograde starts 12:31 pm PST Jan 28 (Jan 29 in Pakistan and points east) and ends 6:57 pm PST Feb 18 (Feb 19 east of Greenland). This retrograde moves from 24 degrees Aquarius back to 9 Aquarius, with the inferior conjunction of Mercury and the Sun occurring at 18 degrees Aquarius at 10:19 am PST just before the Solar Eclipse on Feb 6-7. This degree is "A Man's Secret Motives Are Being Unmasked" symbolizing the difficulty we have keeping our past, motives, and secrets from public view, and "the introvert's desire to protect himself from social judgment" and "clinging to self valuation." A degree of "Unmasking," Rudhyar also says this degree involves "conservation of experience," perhaps requiring protective agencies to remain relatively unrecognized.

If you’ve noticed I’ve been absent for a few days, well…. There are times in life when things crunch together, whether we want them to or not. I’ve lamented that my life sometimes seems to “interfere” with my work, which of course is a universal human situation. The past 3 weeks have required that I shelve writing while dealing with something disturbing which you need to know about. I’ll be composing articles on Mercury retrograde over the next few days, but for now, here’s the story of an odyssey.

Usually what I post falls within the realm of “Western Astrology,” i.e., astrology generally derived from the Greco-Roman-Babylonian model established thousands of years ago. Over the years, Western Astrology has greatly evolved beyond its roots in that era, so that most of what we now know to be "Western Astrology" bears zero resemblance to what our ancestors studied and practiced. Every culture has had its form of astrology, and there are also many other types of astrology practiced in our world. Today we examine elements of Chinese Astrology that we may know more of what we've been through and what is to come.

I thought it might be time to offer you a chance to relisten to my interview with my friend Michele Meiche at Self In Light. This was on her Satellite Radio show "Awakenings" netcast on the Cosmic Dimensions site on Nov 10-11, 2007. We covered a lot of ground, and there's a lot of food for thought. The link to the interview is below the fold.
