Astrology in Early May 2008 - The Grand Irrationality Intensifies With Mars in Cancer, Moon in Aries and Gemini, and Mercury in Gemini
by Robert Wilkinson
Today we explore more about the Grand Irrationality being triggered by Mars during the entire first week of May. As you know, Mars is at 26-29 Cancer, the focus in a septile-series "Kite" configuration where it triseptiles first Pluto and then Neptune. This activates the entire pattern of occupied and unoccupied points. Over the next few days these 3 planets will be joined in the 7-fold harmonic "Star" when the Moon is in the second decan of Aries and Mercury is 5-8 Gemini. This is one of the more important times of the entire year for everyone.
As you know from previous articles on the Grand Irrationality, it's indicated by Neptune septile Pluto. Any septile series aspect is associated with irrational and/or obsessive-compulsive behaviors, critical choices and changes that may not seem to make much sense, and the general hard edged constant series of forks in the road we're all confronting 7 times a month as well as at least 21 other times a year. This is a widespread influence and accounts for why things are so weird at present, and why many people are making choices that make no sense at all.
As I told you a few days ago, currently Mars is triggering the effect through Mars-ruled activities and people and specifically whatever house we have late Cancer in our charts. The hot zones are around 23-26 Aquarius, 13-16 Aries, 5-8 Gemini, 26-29 Cancer, 18-21 Virgo, 9-12 Scorpio, and 30 Sag-3 Capricorn, depending on what's being triggered. Any planet or angle we have in these zones is subject to more pressure than usual, and shows where we are making critical decisions that will impact our lives in the future in major ways.
The Moon in Aries will add a 4th active point in the overall pattern tomorrow, May 3 or Sunday, May 4, depending on where you are. On May 4 Mercury enters the pattern with a forming triseptile to Pluto and septile to Mars, though it won't be within orb of biseptile to Neptune until May 5. May 6th will be of particular note, since the Moon in Gemini will conjunct Mercury both septile to Mars, biseptile to Neptune, and triseptile to Pluto.
Those in the Eastern hemisphere will find May 4, 5, 6, and 7 to be the most dynamic time span. For everyone, this will definitely stimulate all Moon, Mercury, and Mars related areas of our lives, and things will play out wherever we have Gemini and Cancer in our houses.
We can also expect this pattern to be triggered at the times of the day corresponding to whenever the Ascendant or Midheaven crosses through these zones. Of course, this will vary depending on where in the world we are, since different locations have different rising signs at the same moment in time based in longitude and latitude considerations.
Keywords to areas being stimulated are Differentiation, specifically Realization connected to Desire on the Individual, Mental, and Spiritual levels and Zeal connected to Discovery on the Actional, Physical levels. Another set of keywords related to the focal area of the Kite are Stabilization, specifically Ingenuousness connected to Consolidation on the Individual, Mental, and Spiritual levels.
There are other keywords, but they will be dependent on how these planets specifically configure in your particular chart. Certain generations and sub-generations are affected more than others. Those born with Uranus or Pluto in late Cancer or the Virgo or Scorpio zones are no doubt in major transformation, as are those with Uranus in late Sag or early Capricorn. Those with Neptune in the Virgo, Scorpio, late Sag or early Cap zones are confronting forks in the road of their ideals. Those with Saturn in any of the zones are confronting choices that determine how bound or free they'll feel in years to come.
A brief elaboration: Those with Jupiter in the zones are confronting shifting futures and philosophies, while those with Mars in the zones are facing crucial actions that may require shifts in directions or how they effort. If your Venus is in a zone, the choices involve relationships, values, likes and dislikes, while Mercury in the zone affects your view, interpretations, and how you coordinate your life departments. If your Moon is in a zone, it's affecting your feelings, habits, and what and how you care about self, others, and things, while if your Sun is in a zone, it's affecting your life, light, vitality, and how you find and offer illumination.
To reiterate, the houses these points fall in show the life areas where these choices are occurring. The houses ruled by the planets involved also show the life areas where these changes are happening, but more in terms of how you view and deal with those parts of your life.
The planets are the "inner lights," or elements of personality that can and should be raised to the highest possible level of functioning. The signs on your houses show what planet rules what area, and the sign of that planet shows your inherent bias in approaching those affairs of the houses ruled by the planet. (While it sounds complicated, it's not, but more than this is not possible in the scope of this article. That's for a set of classes!)
Obviously I cannot answer individual questions about how this is affecting you, since there are 10,000 possible manifestations depending on your hologram, your Dharma, and your responses arising from your Free Will. This is one of those times when we are making choices whether we want to or not, or even if that which confronts us makes little or no sense.
I suppose I can offer that we need to be good surfers, ready to shift our balance as the wave forms shift, and not worry that it makes no sense that the wave is breaking this way or that. The object is not to get tossed off the board while displaying skill and having as much fun as possible in navigating the changes.
You can find out more about this on-going phenomenon creating widespread uncertainty and lack of clarity in this article, The Astrology of The Grand Irrationality - What Is It? I'll also be composing more in the upcoming Spiritual Astrology articles covering May-June 2008 that I hope to get posted next week.

Hi Robert ~
Thanks so much, as always, for your beautiful articles. I stop by every other day or so to see if there's new material - and always delight when there is. I have read your comment about taking time to get back to comments and questions - so take as much time as you need to answer mine (I feel blessed that you spend so much time & energy on your visitors).
I was born at 11:59 am on 1/29/1980 in Baltimore MD. I have Uranus in late Scorpio and Neptune in late(ish) Sagittarius - and as you've related, this is a MAJOR time of transformation and choices for me. Lots of personal/relationship/career/spiritual/parental factors swirling around right now. Unlike my times of usual strength and vigor, I feel so drained, mentally dull/fuzzy/even depressed, and generally out of touch with what I need to do or remember to stay in faith of what I know to be spiritually true. It seems like the world is sort of falling out from under me (I know it sounds dramatic), even though in my heart I know better. And I also have this sense that the decisions I make right now will have big repercussions, which aggravates the overall fatigue and drain I'm feeling b/c I feel ill equipped to make these important decisions. From your words, I know this must be quite common among others right now - but I have a tremendous sense of being alone. Anything you can offer in the way of guidance is most appreciated. . . .
Wishing you the best, Kristina

Dear Robert,
I have been reading your articles for the last year and am awed by your insight and spot-on, in depth analysis. This article is of particular interest. I was born 9.27.50 at 5:49 am in OK City OK. I have Virgo/Venus 18 degrees, Virgo/Merc 21 degrees - the hot zone degrees - in the 12th House. With this current Saturn Return, revelations of seismic proportions have emerged in just about every segment of my life, esp. family and professional, the kind of revelations that requires one to re-evaluate EVERYTHING. I have the sense that what I am experiencing is, in part, symptomatic of a universal upheaval and re-ordering of our reality. I, like Kristin, worry about making the correct decisions and would greatly appreciate your insight.
SIncerely,
Fortune

Hi Robert & All
Just wanted to pass on to Kristina, Sherry & Fortune that i have found the 'energy alerts' on whatsuponplanetearth.com very enlightening & therapeutic in addition to all Roberts articles, often there is synchronicity in the news.
Thanks for all your hard work Robert & look forward to our reading. I'm going to put NNR here (no need for reply... :) ) as i just wished to pass this info on to those in the blog stream & it's enjoyable when i've seen others share there thoughts between others, a definate sense of community, created by your good self.
To end a wee quote for during this G.I. time...it gave me a teehee... :)
In walking, just walk. In sitting, just sit. Above all don't wobble. - Yunmen

yes, in the River of Life (our shared human conscious) it is so nice to follow this blog stream and find such a prolific spring of inspiration. I can always come here - like a secret place in the forest - to recollect myself. I love to read late at night, before sleep. Wonderful space to be in before bridging over to dream conscious. Sir Robert you are indeed a philosopher king, a Hanuman, feeding our intentions so eloquently w/the signs of our times. Great community-shire.

Hi Kristina - I post when I can, and there's an endless amount of material to write. You've entered your Saturn return. This is a point to re-evaluate everything. Also old security systems have been blown apart by Pluto for the past few years. The "world falling out from under us" could be echoed by thousands of others, if my mail and comments are to be believed. Your fatigue may be from the old Mars/Jupiter in Virgo era ending, along with Saturn opposing your Venus, always a time of sorting through many things. You should go into the archives and find the articles on the Saturn Return and Saturn conjunct a planet, as they'll explain a lot. Use the site google box on the upper right. On a final note, we are always alone, in that we are discrete particles of sentient Light-Love. We are always with others, as we all exist in a field of light in different frequency forms.
Hi Sherry - It would seem you're going through major forks in the road in many areas of your life. Ride the wave!
Hi Fortune - Well, I always say don't worry about things that can't be solved by your worrying'. I'm also dealing with Saturn's influence. While sometimes feeling constricted by circumstances, I also remember that my own authorship arising from my direct experience, knowledge, and awareness is a reliable reference point. You also may want to read the articles on the Saturn Return and Saturn conjuncting a planet.
Hi Vera - Well, if everything is a wave form, surfing may be the best way to steer the process and have a great ride through the end of the era. Even if uncertain or at times hairy, gnarly, or any other surf metaphor, if we don't ride the wave with skill, confidence, and willingness to do what it takes, it WILL roll right over us and give us a frightful toss or even slam to the sand.
Hi H - Am not wobbling as fast as I can! ;-) Thanks for the reference, since many sites have information that can serve us all in understanding how to navigate the changes. Anything that's true will probably have some similar elements to what's on this site, since all I'm describing here is what IS, in symbolic mathematical terms. Other people on other subrays or Rays have different metaphors.
Hi deva - Thanx for the praise of the work. This is a quiet space of gentle community, aware beings who are striving to become more aware and effective in their worldly existence. Really great idea to read some of the stuff on this site before bed. You'll learn more things that way. Always loved Hanuman. Ram, Ram, Ram, written countless times on my heart. God Is All There Is. Aum Namah Shivaya!

Hi Robert, I read your article. I know it is very individual, but yes, this Moon in Aries is intense, very so. you said depending where planets like Mercury and Jupiter are in our charts? my Mars, Jupiter & Mercury are in Aries. Does it mean things are heating up for me? If you can, please tell me a little. I do not yet understand degrees. Thank you.

Hi Robert and everyone. I would *really* appreciate some urgent guidance.
I can certainly feel these energies at the moment. I"m in the midst of my Saturn Return (in Virgo in the 4th). I've had a very unsettled and stressful life the past year and housing has been a big problem. In fact right now housing and work are totally unstable and I'm in a very anxious position. I've just agreed to move into an apartment on my own (first time I've lived alone and i feel I need to after all the bad experiences i've had and also given Saturn in is my 4th).
My Saturn return in the 4th is all about laying roots and i'm so worried things are falling apart. I've been the opposite - rootless for quite some time.
If I have just moved into an apartment when all this activity is happening does it mean it was probably a bad idea and won't work out given all the unstable astrological activity?

HI Larissa - If your Aries planets are between 13-16 Aries, yes. If earlier degrees, you've already been through this. If later, you're yet to go through this.
Hi Matt - Saturn in the 4th offers you a sound platform for future successes if you can accept responsibility for maturing in the direction of your choosing. Embrace that life which you have not yet lived, remember you and only you are responsible for all choices and responses in your life, and overcome fear, doubt, and needless worry about things that can't be solved by your worrying. Get rid of all unhelpful memories of the past engraved on your subconsciousness. "The Game of Life" by Florence Scovel Shinn can give you a short cut here if you're willing to do the disciplines. And no, it's not necessarily a bad idea. It could be the beginning of things finally working to your ultimate advantage if it entails you taking responsibility for your choices. The vague dreads of Neptune squaring your Sun in years past are now over. This year is major productivity if you get organized and let go of inner and outer past chains of fear.

Hi Charlie - Probably not, given its chart (bet. 2-3 pm, Apr 1 1979). It is, however, having a Saturn return which will be exact in July-August. It was exact for the first time in December 2007. Iran is also having its Mutable T-square triggered over the next few weeks with Saturn opposing its Venus and square its Moon. And Mars is just now conjunct its Jupiter, in the 12th house. There could be problems when Mars crosses the Leo Ascendant.
Hi Vera - Strange days indeed! Neptune conjunct Mercury and Jupiter would make for peculiar communications. And it sounds like he's a lucky man that you are so forgiving. I know of many women who would not be so charitable if their man suggested such a thing, even in jest.
Posted by: Robert | May 05, 2008 at 06:20 AM
Hi again Charlie (and anyone else worried about our war criminal government attacking Iran) - To make it clear, this illegal administration already has plans to a) bomb Iran whenever it's expeditious to do so, and b) wants Israel to begin the mess so we can step in to defend our ally. Scott Ritter is a legit source for this information. You can find all kinds of things he's written about our intentions. Start with Wikipedia and go from there. We live in sad times. That's why the atmosphere is so heavy right now.

Hi Robert, answering your questions, I had to look at my chart - mine are Jupiter 26 degrees in Aries, Mercury 25 degrees in Aries, Sun 9 degrees in Aries, Mars 00 in Aries. Thank you for anything you can say.

Hi Larissa - The Grand Irrationality put you at Mars forks in the road a long while ago, your Sun around 2005-2007, and will be putting your Mercury and Jupiter through choices and changes beginning in a couple of years. But right now they're favorable to Neptune and Pluto so there's nothing irrational about those factors in your chart unless other planets are involved. Right now you're dealing with Mars squaring your late Aries planets. Stay balanced and mature.

Hi Daffy - Good imagination. Would probably not like living in the WH given the current sitch. Most career apparatchiks wouldn't like me either. Rationality won't return for awhile, so be a good duck, find a pond on which to play with your friends, accept the focus, and r-e-l-a-x, to quote a sign in my favorite pizzeria.
