The Autumnal Equinox of 2008 - Signs and signals for Fall

The 2008 Autumn Equinox falls at 8:45 am PDT on 22 September, 4:45 pm GDT, and early Sept 23 in Eastern Australia and Oceana, marking the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn. The chart done for the that point in time is said to offer a snapshot of the cosmic and literal weather we can expect over the next 3 months. It seems it will be a fairly auspicious if portentous Autumn, since there are a host of great aspects along with prominent septile (fork in the road) indicators. The Moon makes a mixed bag of aspects, long range oppositions are indicated, with a very strong productive spiritual balancing indicated these next 3 months.

The chart shows 23 Virgo for Maui and late Libra through late Scorpio rising for the continental US. London has 28 Capricorn rising and Amsterdam has 4 Aquarius. Moving east, Tallinn has 3 Pisces on the Ascendant, Istanbul has 25 Pisces, Johannesburg has 27 Pisces, and Baghdad has 19 Aries. New Delhi has 29 Taurus and Trivandrum has 21 Taurus rising. Bangkok has 16 Gemini, Hong Kong has 3 Cancer, Perth has 11 Gemini, and Melbourne has 4 Cancer on the Ascendant.

We see the Sun exactly biseptile Jupiter, Moon opposed Jupiter tredecile Uranus, Mercury conjunct Mars holding the trine to Neptune as Mercury prepares to go stationary retrograde, all anchored by the long term Jupiter trine Saturn. Even though Saturn is moving into orb of the opposition to Uranus, that tension is favorably distributed by the Moon and Jupiter, easing the tension somewhat.

With the planetary distribution as it is, it looks to be a "Locomotive" Jones pattern, with a "Bucket" shading throwing the handle to the Moon at 6 Cancer. A Locomotive is a chart with 2/3 of the signs set off against a void 1/3 that represents a lack or a need, a job to be done or a problem to be solved in the world. It shows a dynamic practicality and is moved by externals to address the void. This void falls between 21 Pisces and 6 Cancer.

Where this span falls in our charts will be where we are move to act or accomplish something. Where the void falls in various cities shows what must be addressed or acted upon by all in that location in general. Thus in London and across Europe, because it falls in areas below the horizon, there will be a need for grounding and establishing foundations for operation. In the Middle East across to East Asia it falls in the Eastern sectors, showing a search for identity and personal movement into new futures and providing of basic needs. In North America it falls across the Western sectors, showing a need to embrace and renew relationships.

In this chart everything leads through the Moon in Cancer. Depending on where you live, wherever it falls by house becomes the point of application of power with the other planets following after that initial approach. You can extrapolate the effect to your own chart, in that wherever 6 Cancer falls will be the primary initiative of the next 13 weeks. Even if it is considered to be more of a "Bucket" pattern, the Moon as the handle still shows the point of primary release of all the other energies.

With 5 planets in Air, 2 in Earth and 2 in Water, there isn't much inspiration but a lot of relational energy and practical openings. The only Fire planet is Pluto rapidly moving out of Sagittarius, so we won't have much Fire in the future except when the inner planets move through Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius. That means we'll have to generate whatever warmth and Spirit we can in circumstances, since we'll go for relatively long periods without that element.

Briefly, there will be either zero or one planet in Fire (except when the Moon moves through Fire signs) from this Dec 27 through March 20, 2009, April 10-23, May 31-July 22, August 2-Nov 15, and Dec 26, 2009 through early March 2010. These will be important times for us to bring whatever Spirit we can to situations. There is also a shortage of Water in this period, so feelings may not be as easily expressed as we'd like, and when they are, Uranus in Pisces will probably be a dominant player. Uranus brings the unexpected, unusual, progressive, and revolutionary energies to whatever it's involved in, so expect weird feelings to continue to be present in the global situation.

Overall, the continued emphasis the next 13 weeks are two main factors: Jupiter trine Saturn from Earth, and Venus ruling all the other planets except the Moon. The Earth trine shows lots of detail-oriented work, lots of worry, and lots of responsibility that is ultimately stabilizing in practical ways.

With Venus at 29 Libra, it shows that many will overcome old blind desires and move toward ways to uplift their world through linking with others to participate consciously in a higher, greater "civilizing" power. Added to the 3rd Quarter Moon, expect the formation of groups and other collectivities that are future oriented, inventive, and forceful in embodying some ideal or philosophical truth in an organized system or institution. It is said to be particularly useful in learning how to apply universal principles to practical affairs.

So with Air trines from Mercury, Venus, and Mars to Neptune, relationships and communications are very favored, and the opposition-sextile-trine between Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus should help us all make headway in the areas affected within a larger social movement. Even though several very favorable aspects are separating, they ultimately lead to productive forming aspects as a function of time.

Mercury and Mars binovile Jupiter is also incredibly spiritualizing, and we'll have quite a few revelations through finding new perspectives on how to get refreshed at inner sources of the Higher Self's ideals. It's also great for finding a new balance, rhythm, and way of applying our energies to anticipate opportunities already on the way, but only after a delay or some other thing transpires, or is undone or re-done. It indicates that we should be able to see the common elements of Mercury, Mars, and Jupiterian things that up to now have seemed to be going in diverse directions.

Any novile series aspect shows that some things that have been cooking for a long time will finally wander in out of the metaphoric desert, and with Uranus also binovile Pluto, some very powerful spiritual forces that have been gestating will be making an appearance across the world through the end of 2008 and well into the first half of 2009. Many things can be safely unveiled, demonstrating the alchemy of the heart.

Overall, the next 3 months are a time of radical transcendence toward the fulfillment of some cultural ideal. We shall discover new ways to touch and be touched, and old elements of being will give up their life so that new forms and ways can come forth. Decisions can be made quickly, which should be followed by discussion, research, and an updating of the vision. This in turn should yield deep feelings and experiences which must be "named" so that new initiatives can be seen and acted upon.

It is an intensely social time of new ideals, new relationships, and new perspective offering a more balanced way of seeing, relating, or doing. The Moon puts a focus on our primal innocence that does the right thing instinctively without manipulation or thought of ulterior rewards. This is a time to embrace relationships of a higher sort, and refrain from acting in any way when it's not the right time or you're with the wrong people.

Joy will come forth, but it may have a tinge of melancholy. Still, moderation and restraint will be rewarded, so forge bonds with those with whom you can have discussions about ways to apply the truths of life so that your understanding and perspective can become more well rounded than it's been up to now.

That said, my uranus is 6 cancer with 6 jupiter pisces and a scorpio moon and MC 9 Cappy in 10th house conjunct transit Jupiter and Saturn conjunct Saturn virgo.....cut to the chase.....will the grand water trine "water" my earthly creations or maybe it's the "water" creations will be "put forth" on the earth? Si/No?

How about this...maybe the desert will have a flood instead of a quake?

Man, I read this like my life was a movie you wrote.

Something (a mutual crush/friendship) has gestated for a long time, and was absent during the past year – “out in the desert” - away in Florida, and this person has recently come back into my life. This time it's not the same because we don't work together anymore - but certain things between us have transpired, to make him and I feel worried and "weird" about the relationship. I have been so worried, and I’m sure for nothing but the whole "moving in diverse directions" is surely the fear I have. It’s not very hard to talk about my feelings to this person (except for this one area of feeling that is so deep) - they are so much like me ... even though communication has been favored; the things that I ponder still have yet to be said. I’m in quandary about how he feels about me. The TENSION is in the unsaid feelings that are sooo right there. How deep or how shallow I don't know – I think that's what killing me because I don’t work with him so my feelings of insecurity are highlighted, unlike before.

So being we are both Cancers, I have a very strong connection with this person, which when you wrote, "This in turn should yield deep feelings..." - hit me in the face. I do have these feelings that you speak of and they are very powerful and powerfully hidden at the moment. But I’m sure anyone with half a brain can see it.

I want to tell him I love him but I am afraid. I don’t know how to express myself without feeling like I’ll be rejected. I want out of this negative vibe.

Hi Chickie - Without doubt you'll be flowing, moving, and changing state with more grace and aplomb than before. Your Scorpio Moon will do well during this Jupiter in Cap time, as will your Jupiter and all house issues related to both of them. Saturn return is truly a momentous time (since we're both going through it together along with millions!) Water fertilizes what's planted. If the desert has a flood, then ALL of CA is in deep excrement, since it means there's a crack in the Earth. Hang in there, my dear. It seems like you're doing better than you may realize...

Hi Robyn - Well, my whole life is a movie, with Jupiter in Pisces!;-) It makes me a great (and compassionate) movie critic! Definitely diffuse fear and tension wherever it's present, since they are unhelpful things at best. Good that Mercury is RX in Libra so that a reasonable balance and charm can be reached. Deep and shallow are good each in the right time. Remember the blessing of Libra is the ability to move a thousand miles in 3 foot steps while admiring the beauty of the journey. Don't worry about being rejected. Enjoy the moment, since often love does actually win the day.

Hi Staysee - Well, you're certainly a breath of fresh air for your world! You've just ended a long cycle, and beginning a new one. This Autumn will be a time of exploring a new self image, a new light/life, a new set of likes, and new ways of coordinating who you've become. 2009 will be a year of extraordinary developments, and probably more than a little fun!!! Until Saturn moves into Libra, enjoy your rewards for maturing the way you have, and take a new look at your motives, since some things will be adjusted over the next year. December and January will be major points of productivity, gifts, and new emergent focus in the realms of money and partnerships.
