Astrology Pressure Zone Ahead! - The Grand Irrationality in Motion with Saturn opposition Uranus October-November 2008 and January-February 2009
by Robert Wilkinson
We are approaching a point in time of major importance to all of us, individually and collectively. As you know from this article, Mars is entering the Scorpio zone of the Grand Irrationality beginning October 10, and triggering its effects through October 17. That makes 4 points active the entire time, with more points activated when the Moon and Ascendant move through the 7 hot zones of influence. With the extremely powerful Saturn opposition Uranus in the foreground of this time, we can expect some fairly spectacular developments given the nature of the planets involved.
In the past, I have likened what's upon us as a 100 ft. tsunami. We're all being challenged to "paddle our boards" so we can catch the wave rather than have it roll over us. There are points in this multi-year period that are more extreme than others, and this period of October-November 2008 is significant since we've begun to slide into the long term tension of the Saturn opposition Uranus. This symbolizes the vast polarization upon our world on every conceivable level, and is why recent developments indicate massive fraud, deception, and deflections from the true issues and solutions for today's global problems.
In its negative manifestation, it's retrograde myopic forces of doubt, duplicity, and willfulness polarizing against the forces of the positive manifestation. The positive expression of the opposition is demonstrated by practical responsible structural forms of progressive compassion that will carry us through the end of the long 84 year cycle and launch us into the new Uranus in Aries era beginning 2010.
The opposition will last the entire time, so this is the front end of an energy that will split the old from the new, the regressives from the progressives, the hard and critical from the individualized forces of practical compassion. The coming squares and oppositions will certainly change our world forever and turn many previous assumptions about what is "real" upside down.
The opposition forms over the next few weeks, and is within a three degree (very powerful!) orb between October 11 and early March 2009. It's within an even more extremely volatile two degree orb from late October through late November and early January through late February 2009. These are points of maximum tension, where "...There's battle lines being drawn..." that will put people into positions that will yield results for years to come.
Throughout this period, we'll have The Grand Irrationality triggered at key points, leading to major irrational occurrences that throw us individually and collectively down the road of a greater destiny. The choices we're making during these periods are keys to how our future will manifest on whatever level they occur. During the period of October 5-14, we'll have either 4, 5, or even 6 points triggered every day depending on where the Moon is if we factor in the influence of the Ascendant crossing through the zones.
Whenever any of the zones are triggered, we go through periods when radical things happen. And of course, with Saturn camped out in the Virgo zone, every time it is stimulated it will release through the opposite sign, which just happens to be occupied by Uranus the Revolutionizer. Things could take radical turns and get fairly unstable at key points over the next few months which set the stage for the even larger changes that will be set into motion as Jupiter moves into its conjunction with Neptune and septile to Pluto in early 2009.
The current "Act" in the larger drama began in late September, involving Moon, Venus, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto. This will become intensified by Mars in the second week of October and the Sun in late October. The second week of November is notable as the Moon is in the Aries zone, Mercury is in the Scorpio zone, Venus is in the Sag zone, though the pressure is somewhat subsided due to Saturn moving beyond the septile-series aspects with Neptune and Pluto,
However, the importance of this coming brief entry into the storm is that we can prepare and position ourselves for when Saturn returns to the Virgo zone in January and February 2009. Late February and early March is the next big "action beat" in the drama, with Moon, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto all triggering irrational effects in widespread ways. Jupiter will expand these radically from that point on, so pay attention to the precursory signals indicated by Venus in late December. The next few months all set the stage for these major changes to accelerate August 2009.
These various points will trigger all sorts of things in our charts, so it's impossible to make specific predictions about how this will influence each individually. Imagine a non-rational energy larger than the entire world working its influence across multiple areas in our lives putting pressure on us to make critical choices and changes on an almost constant level. And yet, we do have the ability to surf this wave, and by our choices we can safely move forward into our Dharma, along with other progressives who share a dream and intention of making a better world however we are able.
Of course, there will also be many things beyond our control or ability to reason out. Those are the moments when we must trust in our training, common sense, spiritual strength, and self-knowledge and do what we must, even if it's to stand against a storm of things that make no sense whatsoever.
We're all being guided to our allies and potential vectors of future security, to whatever degree that is possible given what's coming. Groups and communities are forming around the world in anticipation of what's coming. It would seem that this is truly the beginning of the end of "the heresy of separateness."

Truly amazing times Robert. A dream, hahaha. Feeling the need to tribalize with all greatness however honoring the needs of my person. I feel the need to leave the USA with all greatness and feel as if the time for that is indeed nigh. Making connections slowly but surely with new folk, but remembering the rampant dissonance which hurt me the last time I really threw myself into the unknown, so lessons learned through feelings burned.

Hello Roberts,
You are my daily dose of hope, love and compassion;lots of it!
But today's post sent shivers down my spine it is the first time this year, i feel scared....
Posted by: michelle | October 10, 2008 at 01:20 PM
It's so amazing. I work in an investment bank - I guess one of the last ones remaining. In the past month or so we've seen the fall of Bear, Lehman, Merrill and now possibly Morgan. Today's trading day was a roller coaster. Watching the Dow - it was down 700 points then up 300 - a *1000 point* extremely volatile trading day. I guess when I say it's amazing I mean it's terrifying. I guess that's Uranus-Saturn for you - destroying decades of financial infrastructure in one tumultuous month - or even in one especially tumultuous week. We'll hold our breaths waiting to see what next week brings.
Rob - don't know if you have time to check into this - but do any of the configurations now parallel Black Monday? Or the Great Depression? Or other historical time periods where we've seen vast power structures essentially destroyed in a blink? Just curious - it would be an interesting study, I think.
Take care - Ondrea.

I read this post everyday now, so thank you so much for this information on the galatic irrationality.Ondrea, there is a forum at astro.com by people like yourself involved in banking and refering to astrology and making comparisons with "the great depression".

Robert and Ondrea,
I've been wondering the same thing -- how are the current aspects related to those of the '70s recession or of the Great Depression?
As a recovering 17th/18th C scholar, I know that there have been huge financial bubbles (and consequent disasters) since money started representing the value of gold or another material that was thought to have inherent worth.
Obviously, the difference is that this one is global. Perhaps that's what will get rid of the fallacy of separateness (is that what you called it, Robert?).
The financial situation seems to be proof of concept that when people mistake the representation for the thing itself, or (if you like) the illusion of value for actual value, everything goes down the tubes.
It's the relationship between the two -- a representation/illusion/placeholder and the Thing/Idea/Feeling/State it is believed to represent -- that is getting shot to hell.
More evidence that the only way to go is to be a witness and measure value otherwise.

Robert - the undercurrent of what you explain is being felt not only by me, but by all those around. People are making movements, attempting to establish the best for themselves, yet it appears that what is best for these people is also creating the alliances to which you reference. None of it feels accidental, inadvertent; everything feels very intentional all around me.
While I am not happy to see what is happening in this world today, and the overall picture you have painted is to be potentially bleak for a while, it would seem this is a time when our guides are trying to tell us "enough is enough" and the gathering of like minds has begun. And for that, I am greatful.
Thanks for the heads up....I'll be certainly keeping my eyes peeled and making an extra effort to keep my alliances strong.

Last 2 weeks of september have been most difficult for me. Now the Saturn-Uranus opposition is going to be the exact reverse of my natal chart (it's generational I know): Saturn in Virgo in opposition to Uranus in Pisces. Would that mean that I should be able to ride the waves, and be 'born again'? I hope to keep faith, in the presence of fear.
Posted by: Mari | October 11, 2008 at 09:33 AM
I meant: Saturn in Pisces opp. Uranus in Virgo.

Robert, its been awhile since I have messaged you.
A lot of strange things have led me to this point in my life.
I have Aries Sun Leo Asc and Cancer Moon... I am interested in
how I should get back on the long line of coincidences that have faded
since February. Its important to me and I am pretty sure you know someone with a similar layout.. What is up? This astro weather seems over thought and unpredictable.
Thanks Roberto, hope all is well.

Hi all :)
Charlie :) I liked the term you used of Astro-weather.
I, like everyone else, can feel the changes flowing very very strongly. Whats wierd for me ... Aries Sun, Scorpio moon and Leo Asc. ;) is that I had in the last two years - with the Saturn opposite Neptune transit - it nailed my natal Venus and Moon opposition into a grand Square ... and sent my
entire life A** over tea kettle so to speak into
the void in the scariest of ways ....
Somehow though those times make me feel as if I am now tempered steel in preperation for the those going on now. People everywhere are merging into thier own little king of the hill groups and routines. Funny though, my grandma Gussie always said that those who live thier lives playing King of the Hill, always lose. I have never ever forgotten this.
I am very very curious as to what Robert or anyone else in this forum for that matter would offer up as examples of ....
' practical progressive compassion ' ??
I have learned from personal experience ( painfully so ) that those who ideals of life ( whether or not they are healthy, constructive, valid, real or even sane at times ) are like rabid frogs in a well when faced with real change .. they want only thier piece of sky to be the only reality and will fight VEHEMENTLY to make it so ...at the cost of many others around them.
I know of many spiritualists who have simply just gone underground but this does not constitute progressively coming togeather to face the storm and those who are coming togeather are doing so in a self centered survivalistic manner ... I would love peoples thoughts and input on this and again I ask for
examples of practical progressive compassion??
I went to see a holy woman this past spring and she said "that those who spend all of thier time on the internet box were wasting thier lives and time ??... that now was the time that we should come togeather as a WHOLE, cultivate our connection to the earth
and worry about food and homes in the future."
I'm not trying to be an alarmest but
What say all ?? would love some feedback ...
Blessings and Namaste always
Melody

Practical Progressive Compassion
Sounds like some inane thought form designed to create more thought.
Personally, nothing seems 'practical' in any uniform sense.
Practically, every'thing' is just a stream. Motion.
Compassion is the communication of a passion.
So my conclusion to your question melody
An example of "Practical Progressive Compassion" is any "Excercised moving love."
Thats it. Probably not the physical answer you were in search of.
As of now I am sure we are all in "love" with something. Something, or anything. I don't know about the rest of you out there, but I express that in a pretty weird ways sometimes. On my hill I have learned, that love is how I learn to love all over again. Love the small things -- and never ever care what happens. That is love. Love is life. Life is now.
Enjoy your full moon Melody, and with Aries Leo Scorpio, its going to be one hell of a week :)
Love J

Hi Damien - Many will leave the US for all kinds of reasons, given what's upon us. Just make sure your connections are with friends and allies you can trust. And of course, learn all you can to position yourself better for the future.
Hi Michelle - Precisely the best time to eliminate fear, that most useless yet dangerous disease! If you need to, go back into the archives and you'll find lots of commentary on how to destroy fear at its root and in its many manifestations.
Hi Ondrea - You're in the heart of the greatest rearranging of resources perhaps in history. This week of course still has had Mercury RX, thus the almost 1000 point recovery. It's a wild ride, and will continue for some time, but in the long run what has been is not sustainable, and that's why the bailout will only alleviate some of the problem. When I'm off the road I'll find if there are any significant correlations with 1929.
Hi Merlene - You can find out more about The Grand Irrationality in many other posts in the archives that could help you know what's up and when, and productive ways to view and respond to this years-long phenomenon.
Hi Annette - Could be a good study to see the correlations, if there are any. And it's useful to remember that the Great Depression actually started in the 20s in other countries, and only hit the US as a result of the rampant speculation of Republicans on Wall Street right up to when the excrement hit the wind machine. Yes, as people realize they must hang together or else hang separately, they will begin to cooperate in larger numbers than we've seen for awhile. And as we remember that the only value is the truth, goodness, and beauty of a thing, then we'll be on our way to collective sanity.
Hi BritLitChik - You're right - none of this is "accidental," though there are things that won't make sense for some time to come. Intention is often unrecognized until after a state of being is achieved. But the clearer we can be about out intention, the more clearly we shall see it made manifest, or know the reason why other paths must be taken. Given the unsustainability of what the powers that be have allowed to evolve, it's absolutely a given that things must come apart so that other more effective forms of civilization can thrive.
Hi Mari - Yes, it could help you crystalize the genius of your Higher Self while revolutionizing your old sense of purpose. A great time for blowing out fear in all its forms, leaving you clear to express your genius.
Hi Charlie - Well, it seems that lots of strange things lead us all to this point in our lives! ;-) It's going to stay somewhat unpredictable for years to come, since we do not exist in a vacuum and there are things already in motion beyond the ability of any of us to know beyond a certain degree. And of course, what can be known may only affect some and not others, while other things in motion affect us all on levels we barely imagine.
As for "inane thought forms," not exactly, if "inane" means "lacking significance." ALL thought forms create effects. I used the term "Practical Progressive Compassion" specifically to elaborate on a combination of synthesized planetary challenges. In fact, that phrase is not about thought, but Karma Yoga. There are many forms of compassion, some more practical, some less, just as there are many ways to be progressive in practical ways, as opposed to impractical or regressive. Uniformity has nothing to do with practical and progressive forms of compassion. Compassion is also more than merely the communication of a passion. "Exercised moving love" may not be practical, nor progressive. It may also not necessarily be the expression of a "fellow feeling." And rather than not care about what happens, it would seem that examining the results of the experiment in existence is required if we are not to repeat small errors that will inevitably become larger ones.
Hi Mellody - So it would seem you've learned how to express the deeper and subtle powers in your personality rather than simply be taken for granted or as inconsequential. You've been through a rigor that has made you more skilled to become your light, and these will yield big results in 2009.
Examples? Gandhi, Sai Baba, Ammachi, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Oprah Winfrey, Ellie Wiesel, Morris Dees, the Kerns, Annenbergs, and many others found ways to ride the tiger of practical progressive compassion into works that unlocked human potential, made the world a better place, and opened hearts and minds to things we can actually DO to become better beings or assist the lessening of suffering. The ability to create inspired opportunities that opens self and/or others to hope and better possibilities is an element of practical progressive compassion. Whether in the realm of ideas, shared feelings of a higher nature, or concrete actions that unlock human potential, Saturn will offer us "practical responsible structural forms" of the larger Uranus in Pisces energies of "progressive compassion." Inventing a better thing, or the means to do a thing, or creating conditions that assist humans out of suffering into well-being are all elements of practical progressive compassionate works.
As for those who are like "rabid frogs," they're simply stuck in an unhelpful Saturn response. And you're right in that simply "going underground" may not be a progressive coming together if it leads to isolation and separation from our Spiritual allies. Though many are taking a "survivalist" approach, there are many who are finding others whose energies complement their own, and at the right time could very well come together in forms of Karma Yoga where they and others will be helped in appropriate ways to bridge the gap between what has been and what is, or what is and what could be.
I cannot agree that spending my time on the internet posting what I can for visitors to this roadhouse is a waste of my life. While I always try to honor the truths of my Spiritual Brothers and Sisters, to say it's a waste of time to be on the internet is a myopic view of the possibilities for knowledge and community. I have found this vehicle has assisted many around the world to find and connect with each other directly. Many efforts have been maximized since we no longer have to continually reinvent the wheel, having the ability to connect with what others have learned and done. It's an amazing tool to boost synergy and shows very directly in forms of economy of energy, magnetic attraction, and synthesis, which are the 3 great natural Laws of our Earth system.
As for connecting with the Earth, that's a no-brainer that many have taught for decades, self included. When we merge our inner nature with outer Nature we will no longer have such a sense of separateness from "All-That-Is," and that's the first step in returning to the Garden. As for "worrying about food and homes in the future," that's precisely what we should NOT do. Worry never got the house built, if you know what I mean. Again, finding our unique forms of "practical compassion" that help us join with progressive people will weave communities that will pull together rather than separately, and provide a web of support for those who willingly participate as we move through the great Transition.

Namaste all,
To Charlie .. thank you very much for your response
to my inquisitiveness about this topic.
To Robert .. As always dear your a blessing beyond
words.
Though I would add that the worry part and the internet concerns were not mine but my putting voice
to things I had heard from other spiritual sectors and were not necessarily my own personal views. I agree fully with your views on both topics and believe that we should find usefulness in all that we do and attempt to do in our lives.
I have been pondering and pondering the term you used
of practical progressive compassion .. and maybe its the full moon but it sits like a bee buzzing in my ears. I did have a small epiphany though ... I had seen some time ago on the sci fi channel a show called Jericho. To make a long story short .. it is about a small midwestern town that survives a holocaust attack on the United States that is believed to be done by outside terrorists but turns out to have been engineered by inside political groups to gain totalitarian control over the U.S.
Gee, wonder why the networks were forced to cancel this show ? ;)
Anyways, the small Kansas town comes togeather and
EVERYONE has to put aside thier small petty concerns in order to work towards ( progressivism )the greater good for everyone in the community if thier going to survive ....
I may be wrong .. but somehow that sticks out to me as
very practical ( putting the necessary practical needs first - pragmatism ), progressive ( actions taken and coming togeather for the greater good, and doing so for the sake ( out of compassion) for the community at large. :)
As always ... thank you Robert for this wonderful
site and your good works .. you have absolutely no idea how truly gifted you are and how helpful this site truly is. :)

Hi Melody - It's clear you were expressing other views re: worry and the net. I'm glad you did, since this is a public forum and I believe that worldly concerns should be addressed whenever and however possible about how best to live in the times to come. I believe that we're all more reasonable, aware, powerful, wise and intelligent together than we are separately. I just don't buy into the doom and gloom, fear and aversion that's pandemic. Though some fairly heavy changes are upon us, many traditional views will not get us to the other shore. How useful a response is usually determines whether a thing moves forward or not. The script you cite is a good example of Dr. Franklin's dictum "Either we all hang together or else we shall all hang separately..." We as a human race are learning to overcome the dreadful separateness born of fear we've been sold as a reality since the earliest days of the Industrial Revolution right up to market segmentation as an economic modality.
Your assessment of the phrase is excellent. Due to evolutionary necessity we must become less theoretical and ideological and become more practical and responsible in our stewardship of our time here and our relationship to the sustainability of our environment, including other sentient beings. If we're not progressive we're regressive or anti-progressive, since evolution is a one way street and there's no way to simply stand still. Interdependence is the constant reality of our environment, and we must learn that we also are interdependent with other life forms. This view ultimately leads that we should pull together for the common good so we can share rewards and well being in common. If the failure of the one leads to the weakening of the whole, then it is in the interests of all to care for each other, lest the brain die when the kidneys fail or one being's disease create an epidemic.
Com + passion = fellow feeling. There are many ways to express these in our world. For one, working hospice. For another, philanthropic works. For another, opening human potential. For another, creating a soup kitchen for the poor. For another, serving a greater good for present and future learners. The reason for the descriptor "practical" is due to the Earth quality of what Saturn is showing us. Merely believing oneself to be serving often misses the mark, since service, being ultimately an Earth quality, must be anchored in some practical "real" form. That what Saturn offers in this opposition, expressing a quality of the Uranus in Pisces, however that can be realized by our individual Spirit. Great thread of discussion.

Hi Robert,
So Saturn is more drama than Pluto? I gather Saturn is a hard task master hard lessons to be learned for past bad decisions made that have now caught up with this. As we are now witnessing with the devastating mistakes made by banks for not ensuring adeuate funds are kept as well as using a strict credit/loan lending criteria to other banks and individuals.
Saturn for eg will be transiting my 3rd house and will be conjunct pluto in Virgo.
Posted by: Nicci | October 15, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Hi Nicci - Saturn is part of the larger drama of our lives and times. Pluto is Shiva, also part of the larger human drama, but not as personal as Saturn. Saturn is the timekeeper, so yes, it also symbolizes that which catches up to us across time. I wrote an article about how Saturn conjunct Pluto affecting different generations that may be helpful. Check the archives.

Yes i am a novice but i am hungry to learn more.
In many ways you may have stumped me with astrological terminology and such advanced knowledge but you have explained what is going on around us.
As above,so is below.
I am in Malaysia btw.I wholly support you in your statement about the internet. It is,to date- humanity's singularly-greatest invention of all times that enables like-minded to meet over distance and time and collectively come together for the sharing of knowledge.

Hi Shazz - Welcome to the site. The terminology is for the many professional and amateur astrologers who come here, and that's why I try to offer explanations concerning the terms, even if sometimes I don't connect the dots. I do feel "thrice blessed," as if our Elder Brother Hermes were with me always! Love, Truth, and Knowledge are good things to pursue in a life!! Aum and blessings to you as well, and be safe as Malaysia, as well as many places in your part of the world, go through changes.
