Soon we'll have the first Lunar Eclipse of 2009 at 21 degrees of Leo-Aquarius on Feb 9, 2009. at 6:49 am PST, 2:49 pm GMT, Feb 10 for far east Asia. Since Full Moons always fulfill the energies of the previous New Moon, this Eclipse will sprout the seeds of the recent January 2009 Solar Eclipse. Both eclipses are shutting some old ways of life down forever (as all eclipses do), leaving us space to embrace the new mutations that are coming on strong.
These will shine a light on the emergence of new adventures and ways of expressing ourselves in our lives, and how to distinguish the sustainable from the unsustainable, ego props from true inspiration. We can now see a greater contribution, as well as how to manage social-emotional energies to demonstrate our ability to transcend disappointment.
As the eclipse is prenumbral, it won't be very visible at all, and according to NASA, "...no shading can be detected until about 2/3 of the Moon's disk is immersed in the penumbra. This would put the period of eclipse visibility from approximately 14:00 to 15:20 UT. Keep in mind that this is only an estimate. Atmospheric conditions and the observer's visual acuity are important factors to consider."
We are told Eastern Canada and the USA will miss the eclipse entirely since the eclipse begins after moonset. From NASA, "Observers in western Canada and the USA will have the best views with moonset occurring sometime after mid-eclipse. To catch the entire event, one must be in Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, or East Asia."
This year will be interesting in that we have 4 Lunar Eclipses rather than the usual 2. Again from NASA, "The first three eclipses are penumbral while the last (on Dec. 31) is partial. The Feb 09 event is the deepest penumbral eclipse of the year with a penumbral magnitude of 0.899. It will be easily visible to the naked eye as a dusky shading in the northern half of the Moon."
So this Eclipse won't be seen many places. It lasts 3 hours 59 minutes, implying it will be in strong effect for about 4 months. The Penumbral Eclipse Begins at 12:38:46 UT. The Greatest Eclipse is at 14:38:15 UT, and the Penumbral Eclipse Ends at 16:37:40 UT.
So like most Lunar Eclipses, this one also ushers in an intense transitional period of several months that will clear things out of our lives, and especially our past (the Moon), so we can continue to get prepared for the wild ride of 2009-2010-2011-2012-2013. Of note is that this Lunar Eclipse will boost energies set into motion at last year's February 2008 Solar Eclipse at 18 Aquarius.
This is because in this coming Eclipse Chiron and Neptune are close to the same narrow span of degrees as the North Node, Neptune, and Moon of last year's eclipses and of course important points in the recent one as well. All these occupied points from the past few eclipses will factor into the intense Aquarian changes and manifestations occurring over the next few years.
Before we go into more details about this short-term powerful Lunar eclipse, I must remind you that we're still heavily influenced by the eclipses of 2008 as well as others before them. I gave you a link to significant articles explaining many different eclipses and their effects in the Jan 2009 Solar Eclipse article linked above, so when you're done here, if you want to go deeper into effects you may not have even known were happening, check it out.
In part two of this series, we'll go into various elements of this eclipse, and how it will manifest these next three months. It is sure to affect anyone with an Ascendant or planets between 18-27 of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, as well as those with planets between 19-23 of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.
Those with an Ascendant or planets between 19-28 of Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces, and Taurus will benefit greatly over the next few months, as will those with occupied points around early Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, early and mid Cancer, early Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Sag, early to mid Capricorn, and early Aquarius. It would seem that a whole bunch of points in Fire and Air signs are in dynamic and very favorable change! I'll explain more in part 2.

This sentence made me laugh out loud, Robert:
"Of note is that this Lunar Eclipse will boost energies set into motion at last year's February 2008 Solar Eclipse at 18 Aquarius"
The genesis of my partner's job opportunity in Paris stems directly from a letter he was working on during February 2008.
He signed and sent the letter in March 2008 (Tr Mercury at 1 Virgo, degree of the Feb Lunar Eclipse), received and enjoyed a very successful phone call from the CEO of the Paris branch in April (Tr Saturn newly arrived at 1 Virgo) and that resulted in his first meeting with them in May -- during Saturn retrograde and two days after Jupiter had gone retrograde, but ... oh well.
Tellingly, there were no eclipse degrees being hit the week of his meeting, save for a clumsy inconjunct from Tr Mars at 1 Leo to that 1 Virgo degree where Tr Saturn still sat. Oh, and Tr Mercury square the March 2007 Lunar Eclipse at 13 Pisces (conjunct his North Node) which directly preceded his first phone call from the bank, though not this branch and for an opportunity which didn't suit him.
It DID open his eyes, though, to other opportunities available to him and set him on the path to where he is now. It changed our paths entirely ... very Eclipse-like.
I just had to share that. Again, more proof for your readers that eclipses stay alive long after the day they take place and oftentimes "random" events will happen at times when those eclipse degrees are woken up.

Hi Robert,
Thank you so much for writing about this. My life has come to a dead stop. EVERYTHING has come to an abrupt completion that includes indentification with family, friends, hobbies, some athletics, eating habits, emotions, beliefs, the list goes on. And if I attempt to go back to the previous ways I get a slap on the hand from the Universe. It is a very analytical time for me because I had to let 98% of my life go. It's a void, like a dead-zone. Depression is a waste of time because I can't make the changes I'd like, all things are out of my immediate control.
This is a new experience for me since I am a Cancer and have always been emotional and enthusiastic in the past.
So thank you for the light in the dark.

Wendy, you're not the only one. i feel like I was sucked up into the tornado like Dorothy, out of my "old" life in Kansas, and spit back out in the Land of ??? And none of it was in my control. As the Buddhist teachings say, attachment and grasping creates suffering, thus, the slap on the hand, or, in my case, the hit on the head. It has gotten me committed to the spiritual path. Good luck, and know that you are not alone,

Thank you so much Yeshe!
That is really nice of you to share that with me. I hope you land somewhere really really special!!! I'm sorry for you, me and all of the others going thru this EXTREMELY uncomfortable time of change.
I really believe it will be liberating (Spiritual Path wise)when it's all over, but it sure is intense/insane to say the least.
Take care,
Wendy

Wendy and Yeshe,
I can identify with you both, as I had the same for most of 2008. Never in my life had I felt so unsure and uncomfortable. In the last month of 2008, I decided to listen to what the universe was telling me, and now I feel that I'm at the beginning of an exciting and fortunate new way of life. Give it time, listen to the universe, pay attention to your gut feelings.

Hi Robert
Thanks to all above comments too, nice to know we are all connected, it's been a wild ride this past few months at my end too, this site provides a grand boost.
Quick question Robert... my par fortune is at 20' 26 Leo just into my 3rd house any ideas as to how this may translate with this coming eclipse? (22/11/68 Aberdeen UK 7.30 pm)

My apologies, Robert, but I had listed events in my earlier Post which coincided with Feb 2008's Lunar Eclipse and not events which coincided with the Solar Eclipse you mentioned in your article. So, if I may ...
You mentioned that Feb 2008 Solar Eclipse at 18 Aquarius "waking up" and you couldn't be more correct.
To begin with, my partner sent a "politely frustrated" email in early August 2008 inquiring as to what was happening with the job when Tr Sun was at 16 Leo and Tr Moon was square 18 Aquarius from his quickly moving perch at 16-17-18 Scorpio. Of course, had he talked to me first, he would have learned we were sandwiched between eclipses and it wouldn't be the best time to take action, but ...
Anyway, we received the bank's response and learned of their unexpected hiring freeze on August 12th, four days before the Lunar eclipse which was conjunct my partner's Uranus (and, yes, the news WAS a big shock), with Chiron and the North Node at 18 Aquarius, Tr Sun at 19 Leo and Tr Mars moving through 25-26 Virgo, opposite the 28 Pisces March 2007 Solar eclipse. His optimistic and measured response to them on the 18th carried with it Mars' meeting that 2007 Solar Eclipse degree with his journey to 28 Virgo.
March 2007 was the month he received his initial offer from this bank. Although the position wasn't a fit for him, from that moment forward he was unusually keen on creating an opportunity for himself at this bank (which he did a year later after the Feb 2008 eclipses) and relocate us to France. Interestingly, this March 2007 eclipse was conjunct my Sun/North Node and opposite my Jupiter/Uranus, so change was definitely in the air. There are other hits to that degree with regards to this journey, but I'll spare you all the details.
We learned of the upcoming March 2009 meeting for him -- suddenly opening an opportunity in a situation we had feared was dead after the events of August -- this past October with Tr Mercury at 16 Libra trine that 18 Aquarius eclipse degree and Tr Mars on his IC and square 18 Aquarius.
Of course, we have Mars moving over that degree in early-March (the week my partner officially leaves his current job) and, fortunately, Jupiter meeting up with 17-18 Aquarius during the latter portion of our trip. Oh, and Mars at 1 Pisces (Feb 2008 Lunar Eclipse) on one of the days he's scheduled to meet with them ... sitting opposite his prospective boss' Jupiter. :^)
I'm also looking toward the last days of March/first days of April as Mars meets 13 Pisces (the March 2007 Lunar Eclipse degree which heralded this bank's entry into our lives) and Jupiter moves over his Descendant and into his 7th House.
Without a doubt, though, the transit and progression activity in both our charts is much more conducive in the months to come (as compared to the summer of 2008) to moving those events started in Feb 2008 and even during the March 2007 eclipses forward and this present eclipse activity seems to be opening the doors for that to happen.
My apologies for the long Post, but perhaps there may be those who find it of interest.

Hi, Robert. My natal Saturn is at 17,29',7" in Taurus. Is that close enough to fall within your parameters? If so, I have 7 natal planets involved, and a Moon in Leo, Asc in Virgo. Also, my natal Chiron is at 26,23',24" Cancer. Does that figure in? Love and light, Anne

Hm ... I am a Leo, with scorpio moon and cancer rising. A recent trip to the East Coast for business found me inadvertantly shutting the door on familial burdens from the past once and for all. It was one of those times when the vision was crystal clear and my choices were confirmed.
Kinda strange, definitely intense ... always good to know it's for a reason.

Hi all - These have to be short, as I am extremely time limited.
Hi duse - Glad I could make you laugh. Eclipses help us see larger patterns across time.
Hi Wendy - Well, when things come to a stop then we get to get new perspectives and let go of what is no longer moving. If it's complete, then it stays stopped. If it's ours to renew, it'll begin again. You're right in that depression, while difficult, is a useless response that does not need indulging but does need antidoting lest it breed ego mischief. And please welcome the new and wait patiently for its arrival.
Hi Yeshe - Oz comes in many forms. The old world and its ways are ending fast. The time stream is quickening, and all we can do is learn how to surf the wave. That's why I maintain that adaptability is a virtue in an age in transition. Though uncomfortable, we're all learning to learn forever and a day through all kinds of experiences, all leading us to forms of unconditional love, wisdom, and intelligence in action.
Hi S. - Once we willingly say goodbye to a past that is no longer real, the new does begin to open in big ways and small. And time gives us perspective that we cannot get when we're in the middle of the chaos.
Hi H - It should show as a form of joy, wealth, or well being that is different than what you've known before now. Perhaps a loving, creative, joyous mind that allows you more enjoyment than before. (Or a neighbor who behaves like an intoxicated chicken!);-)
Hi again duse - Answering the second comment is more information than I can address at present.
Hi Anne - Yes. A 3 degree orb for a square is well within what it should be. You'll eliminate an old Saturn response, clean out your perceptions and interpretations, search for what is truly meaningful in your life, and transfigure in ways that will increase the pressure.
Hi Donna - These Aquarius eclipses of 2008-09 are helping all with fixed sign planets to change direction, shift emphasis, and block old responses while releasing new ones. Eclipses that affect our Moon change our feelings, habits, and personality forever over months and years.

Thank you Robert. The eclipse will sextile/trine my Moon at 22 Libra. I also have some planets in early Libra, Scorpio, Sag, so it sounds good! Will have to see what occurs over the next few months.

2008 felt as though I were trapped in a tunnel, like many of you have expressed. It has been wonderful to see that I am not alone! I express this time in our lives like the 'Eye Before The Storm', relating to Hurricanes for those that have not experienced the storms of Hurricanes. It has taken and given me a great deal of Patience and Frustration! Never in my life have I experienced such 'stillness'. It is an eerie stillness! I was hoping 2009 would break this pattern in my life and it appears my waiting is about over!
THANK YOU ROBERT! I really do depend on your insight and wisdom!
