Marie

Wonderful Robert,
I'll try and hold onto this thought:)
Thankyou

X M

Valerie

Good job digging that up! Certainly makes one think, doesn't it!

Thanks, and bona fortuna... :)

Robert

Hi Marie - I'm sure over time a new perspective will evolve, since when we're in the thick of things we just don't know what tomorrow will bring.

Hi Valerie - Thanks for reminding me in the other comment stream about this story - it's a great lesson!! p.s. - I did go to the link you mentioned as well as others, and after poking around decided on this version, since it's the most repeated.

Valerie

Excellent. The link I sent was all I could find on google at the time. Yours is closest to the one I originally read. :)

Liberta

Yep...excellent one. Thanks for this article. Soon after reading this, I got reminded of the Bhaghavat Geetha's gist, "Whatever happened/happens/is to happen is for good". Its better to be optimistic. :)

Cris

and if you allow me to add another story..,(because sometimes we don't know the true reasons)
Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole on the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied..."Things aren't always what they seem". The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been the their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel "how could you have let this happen!? The first man had everything, yet you helped him," she accused. "The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let their cow die"
"Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied. "When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it. Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave her the cow instead. Things aren't what they seem." Sometimes that's exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should.

JOY

Robert, thank you for reproducing a copy of the piece. It's a welcome reminder to everyone, including myself.

Cris, thank you for sharing. I have been looking for a copy of that story.

JOY

Valerie

Cris, I remember that story too- great story, and something about entertaining angels unawares... thanks for sharing!!

namaste, Valerie :)

Matt

I should probably remind myself of this story on a more regular basis when daily tribulations attempt to provoke a fiery response. I'll try... but I won't maky any promises!

=)

Robert

Hi all - I figure this is a great story about detachment and dispassion re: one's personal interpretations and the need to make things good or bad. Sometimes it's all in what happens next!;-)

J. Sue Gagliardi

Another good one about 'good or bad' things:

Two monks were walking along and came to a river. Because of the previous monsoons the bridge had been destroyed. As they were debating on ways to cross the river, they noticed a very young woman sitting on a rock near the river. She looked helpless and in tears.

On enquiry the monks found out that she wanted to get across the river and was in a fix as she didnt know how to swim.

Because monks dont interact with women, let alone touch them, this was a dilemma for both the monks. Finally the elder monk offered to carry the woman on his shoulders across the river. Before the younger monk could protest the elder monk lifted the woman and began wading through the waters to reach the other side. After crossing the two monks left the lady on the other side and continued their walk.

The younger monk berated the elder monk for touching a woman, much less carrying her in such a way. He told the elder monk that he was guilty of great sin and disrespect for his vows. The elder monk said not a word. After another hour of silent walking, the younger monk couldnt be silent any longer, he whined, "How could you have carried that woman when you know its not allowed in our scriptures? Dont traditional beliefs mean anything to you?"

The elder monk replied, " I left the woman way back at the river bank. You’ve been carrying her on your shoulders ever since.”

Larisa

Hi Robert - to suspend judgement requires some patience. Nice to cool off before responding, ha? Might be a reason behind? Might be a sign. Whatever it is - I feel better now that Mars is in Taurus.

Larisa

Talking about good or bad. before things happen - signs appear, always, especialy when necessary to pay attention ina big way or small but personal. Never fails. Mine are - my body reacts - to the point i can't eat when it occurs. I was invited to a party, but 1 hour before it, I got fever to the point I could throw up, and I never have fever. Heavy feeling, but yet - I dressed up and went. Something unpleasant happened there - I should have stayed at home.

Then the bridge which I cross 5 times a day, went up to let the yacht go through and the bridge was stuck in teh air - couldn't go down - didn't let me go where i was going, so I went several blocks around and the dinner was not menat to be...

Not oftne when this happens, but fever in general is bad, but in my case, it is good - a warning.. we need to learn to listen and accept

Robert

Hi Sue - I know that one well. Sometimes our memories trap us and steal our present and our future. Some rules are such a drag......

Hi Larisa - You have hit upon a great human lesson. It is most important to note our particular "signals" that Spirit custom tailors to our unique perceptual system. We are told by a venerable source that it is important to note the subtle and unique signals that come to us, rather than stay dense. That you noted it as you were going through it shows you're in process, as per the recent post of how to stop anything we don't want to continue.

Larisa

Thank you Robert. Radars don't lie. Oh, yes, I listen. Signs take me there. I pick up on lots of things lately, not easy to feel everythng so sharply at times. signals do come - what a mystery! and how precise they are! and they come in many ways and forms. They are mentors from above.
