Right now and for the next few days, Mercury is square Saturn. I've observed this influence narrows the view, and makes for somewhat pessimistic or rigid thinking and interpretations around what's happening. The antidotes for this one are humor and compassion, as well as a sense of what's ending, what's opening, and taking responsibility in communications.
Showing the generic gestalt of the atmosphere, this square can demonstrate the mind's inherent seriousness, even negativity, whether in us or another. In its positive manifestations, it will show as culmination insights re: the Saturn lessons in play since September 2008, and open a more varied and practical "spiritual rapport" with others who share our duties and responsibilities, as well as "Dharma mates," or those who we are linked to Dharmically.
It is another in the sequence of planets making Mutable T-squares from Gemini to Virgo and Pisces while trining the Aquarius stellium through August. It is now square Saturn, en route to its square with Uranus trine Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune July 1-2. I discussed how this "off-set" T-square works in the linked article.
Mercury should now give us signals, ideas, and communications around what was set into motion by the Solar squares, so that we can move into valuing, appreciating, and/or capturing pleasing forms of whatever these challenging aspects are showing us when Venus moves through this configuration later in July.
On a related note (since Mercury rules Saturn), Saturn continues to occupy the degree of a "Volcanic Eruption," allowing us to release a lot of pent-up pressure and blow out whatever is keeping us from experiencing our "wholeness." We can now get at many old complexes that have been stuffed down and release them through Mercury's power of adaptation to new discoveries that require exteriorization. Get a new view, or new ways of interpreting what's happening, and you can experience a fiery rebirth that shows your best to your world.
And on a final somewhat unrelated note, from about 2:15 pm PDT (10:15 pm Greenwich) today (June 24) for 24 hours after, the Sun will occupy 5 Cancer, the degree of karmic adjustments, curbed recklessness, and as Rudhyar puts it, "The tragic results which are likely to occur when the individual's will pits itself carelessly against the power of the collective will of society."
So for about the next 24 hours, we should see illuminative elements of this degree, which we are also told is one where an individual is brought to account for their societal obligations. Since we are told that Pluto rules such things as railroads and trains, I've long regarded this symbol as one where "At a Pluto crossing, old forms are wrecked by destiny."
Dr. Jones says it's "the irresistible power of completion," as well as a type of control so we don't have to continue any action "to the point of self-cancellation." Here we can find our obligation to ourselves rather than externals, and disperse whatever we need to in order to achieve a creative reorganization.
Falling where it does in the sequence of degrees, it implies the wreckage or end of that which obstructs or willfully disregards the major decisions symbolized by the recent Summer Solstice. It would seem that something is having the brakes put on so we can move forward into a new allegiance. Just a few insights into this part of the zodiacal journey....

Like he does -- or could do -- with the degree of an Eclipse, might Mercury also give us a signal, communication or idea concerning what was initiated at the recent New Moon when he passes over 01 Cancer?

If I should feel down, I will think of Billie Mays.
Right now, however, I'm feeling closer to my husband. So life is good. Well, except for those prophetic dreams I've been having, lately, including a death-related one (of a pet) as well as another about major tornadoes.
Speaking of tornadoes, the weather in the NYC metro area has been odd for the past two weeks-- sun followed by a monsoon followed by clouds followed by more rain. Followed by menacing clouds. I haven't watered my garden in over two weeks. And I haven't had to plant new beauties or even touch the soil; all the dead flowers from two years ago (and last year) have sprung back to life!
Thanks, Robert, for this entry. I'm kinda digging all the unusual weather patterns and some other assorted happenings :).

I think Mercury is vasty undervalued. It coordinates so much. Very interesting post! Thank you, Robert.

I'd say Michael Jackson's old form was wrecked by destiny.

Hi duse - Yes, if a planet crosses a New Moon degree, it creates a resonance pattern. Again, for interpretation purposes, what is the relevance? For one person major, another minor, depending on aspects and other factors.
Hi WarriorLady - Closeness to a loved one is always good. Prophetic dreams can be a blessing or problem, depending on how much we dwell on them. Think in terms that the message is still not the Truth, and that some messages cannot be taken personally, even when they are. Remote viewing could be a valuable asset if put to use in service to the greater Good. We'll take some of that precious water out here, since it's not raining like it should, and we don't get much to begin with! "They" say that weather patterns for the seasons can be seen in the Solstice and Equinox charts. I had a student do some research on this years ago, and there are correlations.
Hi Pepper - I agree that Mercury is grossly underestimated! It's effects are very powerful, if somewhat neutral in how they work. And of course, Hermes is the "guide of Souls," so how irrelevant could that be?;-)
Hi Robyn - GREAT insight! That makes perfect sense from a correlative angle, given the current Solar degree ruling his Solar 12th house. Now we just need the cops to tell us what they found in the car and place they found him. There maybe more afoot than many think.

LOL! Thank you, Robert.
No dwelling here or complaints here :). I'm kinda grateful for the heads-up dreams versus having something knock me in the head unexpectedly, you know? As for the unusual weather patterns, they've all occurred on each individual day, like the changing moods of Cancer. For the past 2.5 weeks. Bizarre but beautiful stuff!
Tonight, after a brief thunderstorm consisting of much bark and no bite, I saw the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen in a city. Usually one side of the sky is blue, and the other is a radiant orange. But this evening, the entire sky went from a soft pink to a flame orange with hints of bright pink. Looked like there was a fire overhead, or even a painting-- awesome and interesting!

How fascinating. I found this last week so much was happening in the 12th house, i had this crazy power of creation/intention. SO intense. Such a powerful time for dreaming, visualising, intending. AS if the universe was just giving me a snippet of a tidbit of what i can really accomplish when i intend clearly, don't doubt and let go of how i think the intention should 'look' when it manifests ... From one thought to creation in under an hour...for better or worse...we really do have so much more power than we realise...

I really do feel like I have the sharp edges of a person who's being "paper-punched" into form... but ouch! : )

Hi WarriorLady - Yes, well, I've found that sometimes dreams become "self fulfilling prophesies" if I don't practice the right kind of detachment that can give me the right view. And of course, the unexpected gives us the opportunity to see how programmed a spiritual response is, or how much the lower nature still reacts instinctively. Changing weather patterns will continue for many years to come, thanks to what humanity set into motion and many refuse to acknowledge. Some sunsets seem as prophetic as dreams.....
Hi Louisa - 12th is great for dreaming, seeing the whole pictures, and letting go of what no longer fits in the current narrative. Good that you're working on overcoming doubt, since that's one of the "10 Fetters" we must master en route to becoming Masters of the Wisdom. Doubt is corrosive and useless. Also your practice of detachment from specific forms around how the intention will manifest is very good. We do in fact have much more power, and potential, than most imagine. Initiative + self discipline = spiritual momentum nothing can stop.
Hi Christine - Well, even a stone must be tumbled to take off the rough edges and turned into a highly reflective beautiful form.

Good points, Robert.
Check out what our skies looked like on the 28th of June :):

To bring to our awareness the fact that the 5th of Cancer is the degree of "Karmic adjustments" I found profoundly helpfull!!! Thanks. I know someone who's son hs some difficult forms of addictions and I think he has the sun on that very degree... Incredible, he is now make efforts to change and improve... Wonder what the effect will be on him...

Hi WarriorLady - An amazing set of pictures. Ominous!!
Hi Isabel - Hopefully, now that he's just had a solar return, he can embrace some of the more positive indicators that have been happening lately. You should find some useful info in part 3 of the lunar eclipses set to post later today.
