Sun in Gemini Trine Jupiter and Neptune Square Uranus Illuminating More To Come in July-August 2009

Yes, that's happening today. What does it mean, and how does it work? That's today's topic.

First, a basic concept. While often trines work for "good" and squares are "difficult," that's not always the case. I try to make clear to fans and students of astrology that a trine is not necessarily good, nor is a square necessarily bad. It all depends on how well we know how to use the planetary energies.

A square can serve to help us change directions, or put the brakes on something we know needs to change (and even if we don't know!) A trine can be an ease of understanding, or a harmony of function. That can yield very favorable results, or allow a wrong-doer to "get away with it," if only temporarily. When we have two together, it can work as a reinforced disruption, or an understanding that helps us put the brakes on something while turning our energies in new directions.

Because of where the Sun is, it's now making the first in a planetary series of these "trine/square" configurations. Mercury will do the same in early July, Venus in late July, and Mars in mid-August. Though the degrees will change somewhat, the configuration holds a certain energy of building through the Gemini-Aquarius harmony of understanding while releasing through the Gemini-Pisces square.

The trine throws the harmonic void into Libra, thus giving all stabilizing harmonious Air wherever the Air signs fall in the chart. This would seem to indicate a good time for making connections and understanding multiple views from a balanced angle taking both macro and micro into account.

The current trines involve 27-28 Air. The Sun at these Gemini degrees illuminates us through showing an anticipation or longing to reach out toward a larger reality beckoning, as well as a clarity about something that's become symbolically "bankrupt," freeing us for new tasks.

In these you'll find a lot about this long wave Aquarian configuration that will heal much even as it shows us signs of what's coming not that far down the road.

The harmonic void of understanding and stabilization is at 27-28 Libra. This should yield an understanding for all of us around a higher way of viewing things to lessen the stress of our existence, perhaps through a more balanced view of things. We can find tremendous inner strength, as well as a connectedness with other life forms in our world, both subtle and dense. To the degree that we open to a greater destiny, we will be sustained and find that which assists us to grow into a greater awareness of our non-separateness.

The Sun is releasing these energies through the Uranus at 27 Pisces. Ordinarily Sun - Uranus squares are somewhat volatile, and require that we search for our inner values which life will recognize and reward if only we get it in gear rather than make excuses for not acting. It can yield sudden awakenings, as well as realizations of crises or unexpected things that offer us a chance to mobilize, develop our social intuition, and be wholehearted in going for what matters to us. Here our worldly "law" must "square itself" (carpenter's term) with the Higher Law of our Eternal Spirit.

The voids in squares and T-squares indicate the problem as well as the solution. If this square is showing as a malfunction in our lives, it's most likely a problem in how we're expressing Virgo and Sag energies. Perhaps too narrow a focus, or too large. Perhaps too critical, or not critical enough. You get the drift. This will most impact those born the third weeks of March, June, September, and December, offering a chance to show their light or power in unique or innovative ways.

The obvious solutions to how to use this square (and those to come made by the other inner planets) appropriately is to practice Divine discrimination, good practical discipleship, and pay attention to details while adjusting what must be changed for practical purposes. Other things to focus on are showing a sense of humor, an abundant largeness of vision, clarifying Truth or a higher moral, ethical, philosophical, or spiritual standard, and regarding whatever happens associated with these squares as "an experiment in truth."

Of course, when the inner planets also make their squares some of the degree points will be the same, while others will be different. Also, squares from different planets yield different results. A square to Uranus may show as eccentricity or willful behavior, or genius expressing itself. A square to Saturn may show as fear or controlling behavior, or a mature understanding and an experienced ability to respond. Again, everything depends on how WE choose to use or misuse any given set of energies and opportunities.

A brief look ahead: when Mercury makes the squares, it should yield new information, new insights, and new ways of coordinating these energies in our life. When Venus makes the squares, it should yield new values, people, and unique things to like. When Mars makes the squares, however volatile it could be, it will give all a chance to demonstrate innovative ways to act or demonstrate our genius or unique qualities.

I'll compose more on these squares in a couple of weeks, since they'll dominate July and August. Until then, ponder the possibilities based in what you've read here.

This makes sense today Robert! I wrote of someone stepping on me and hurting my feelings on the full moon and just today decided that things would have to change and that I would have to make the changes and make sure that my boundaries were very clear. i hadn't even thought it through before hand, it just came out instinctively and LOOKS as though it may make the difference. By this account things will certainly esclate towards the end of Summer-the Mercury, Venus and Mars activity seems intense and it can be a lot to take in...

Another interesting article. Your writing is really expanding my view of astrology away from the simplicity -- I use that word almost facetiously and should have put it in quotes -- of Aspects and more toward the sensitivity of degrees and the almost endless ping-pong of energy always in motion.

With that in mind, as Mercury is making his square to Uranus in early-July, Venus and Mars will be moving through the recent Mercury Rx degrees. How might the visit of these two to this sensitive area affect or bleed into the on-going Uranian square energy you wrote of?

Secondly, and you may have written about this earlier, can a situation begun during the Mercury Rx phase and then halted as he went Direct pick up again as Venus and Mars move through those degrees? Just curious.

Looking forward to the upcoming Eclipse articles. The one on July 21-22 at 29 Cancer -- which has a life of 6 or so years! -- looks amazing!

Marie, I noticed the same thing a couple of days ago, someone who has acted as a bully said somthing,
and I was surprized at my response, which was also instinctive...and assertive...in the past I would
have internalized it, and I realize I now am able to confront others assertively without aggression.
Also noticing, how differently others treat me when I am assertive, and take responsibility for my feelings.

In regard to the harmonic void of understanding and stabilization at 27-28 Libra...in my birth chart I have my sun at 27 01' Libra and my south node at 27 48' Libra...both in my 4th house. Would the energy of this aspect be primarly focused on 4th house issues and what does it mean (if anything) that my sun and south node are so closely located?

Dear Robert - novice, here...In the past year - job ended w/30 yrs in field..returned to school for new degree, engaging in search for new career path, much healing and regeneration taking place. With Uranus in Pisces / 12th, square sun 27 Gem 3rd Hse, & Natal Jup midpoint @ 13'24 Taur, 2nd Hse.... this seems to support the prospects for a new direction - both spiritually and financially with more open and honest communications. not sure how I can optimize my contributions & recognize opportunities...have been 'accused' of delusional optimism but don't see any other way to look at the situation. Truly believe the 'right' path will open up (along with a paying position!) I'll re-read this article a few more times...Thank you again....ryn

Dear, Dear Sir,
You're on the tip of my day.

I experienced something today that brought me clarity.
With this Sun in Gemini/Jupiter in Aquarius making aspects to my Moon, Venus, Jupiter & Asc. In retrospect, i played with a situation dealing with a friend. I was being asked to make a commitment to an event and me being vague about my action in response to it. Which is something i've been dealing in opposition in another relationship.

You know how you can mimic the way people respond to you and use that way towards others in your own responses. Well i did that, to someone other than the one whom i mimicked. The response i got was the about the same response i had been giving to the one i mimicked all along. Frustrated, no humor, angry and emotional. Which showed me how I would feel in such a situation.

The mimic i adapted was the malfunction of Virgo energies manifesting in a vague, yet critical vocabulary. Which was originated from the person i know born in the 3rd week of March.

I find this little discovery stabilizing and harmonizing because it has made me think to put the brakes on a reactive behavior and claim serenity. Essentially, it was an experiment in truth.

Hi Marie - This is certainly a marker in time for many, since these are waxing aspects, hinting at things to come. Some things have definitely changed in the past week for me as well. The Sun is illuminating the way to come that will be developed by the inner planets.

Hi duse - As a Professor of the craft, it's important that I communicate a bit of the Art of Synthesis for those who want to go beyond the usual fragmented interpretations. Of course, I'm told by lay people that some of it is more technical than they can grok, but then I do try to write for everyone! I like your metaphor of the ping pong of the energies. It really is like that. As for your question, Venus and Mars will re-iterate in their own ways issues related to the Mercury RX degree span. I suppose things could develop related to what began in the RX phase, but it could also just be "filler material" while you're waiting for the next RX period so things could develop even further. As for the final comment, yes, I've also seen how a trine furthered a toxic behavior, while a square put the brakes on it!

Hi WHR - Perhaps this is also a useful way to use Venus and Mars in Taurus trine Saturn. Taurus certainly knows how to hold its own.

Hi S - It means you will come to an understanding of your 4th house stuff through the transiting conditions. Think that the ruler of your Sag and Pisces areas is harmonized by the ruler of your Leo area, giving you understanding of that Leo department of life. Sun closely conjunct SN often shows a bright Spirit who finds themselves in situations where they cannot express their light satisfactorily. But it also shows that you naturally default to your Light, having gone for it in past lives.

Hi ryn - Good that you're getting it in gear, and seeking those inner values that life will reward. Happy Birthday and Solar Return. Should be full of understanding smoothing the way for the future to present itself as a greater vision. Saturn waxing square your Sun in Sep-Oct will bring major new developments that should be solid by next Summer.

Hi Robyn - Great that you can be so detached that the patterns become clear without you needing to be pushed or pulled by the teaching situation. Sounds like divine discrimination! And I've found that when I'm feeling ambivalent re: committing to something, it's probably telling me something I better get clear about regarding the circumstance or the players.

Hi Leena - Yes, Astrology can identify the points at which we might check out. Which time it will be is entirely up to us, what we're willing to learn or not, and how we respond to opportunities to grow into our Highest Self. Of course, no ethical astrologer would predict such things. That said, some relationships are so inharmonious or toxic that it will yield a metaphoric death. And if someone is with a psychopath, then yes, death could result. But I will assume neither of the last options are what's up in your case. I can't really comment much more about such a heavy thing in this comment stream.

Just remember that we all die at some point, and so the object of existence is how we are living up to that point. Another thing to keep in mind is that some relationships will challenge us to become more wholeheartedly our Spiritual Self, and thus there will be a death - the ego. If lower ego dies to become Spiritual Ego, or the fused Atma-Buddhi-Manas, then a death has in fact occurred, but it is a useful death. If a partnership of fractured beings dies to a Spiritual Marriage of Soul Mates or even better, Twin Flames, then we have died to the world while being born into conscious Eternal Love.

Hi WarriorLady - When we can laugh at some apparent "misfortunes," then we're on the way to perfect detachment and dispassion. New vistas are always preferable to wheel spinning. Hopefulness does make life sweet, and as we simplify, things usually become very much clearer.

Hi Alix - That would imply you're finding ways that transits can be turned to good, regardless of other factors. That means you'll begin to know how to play difficult times and circumstances without getting hooked into the problems.
