Contrary to popular belief, July 4 is not when America was "born." If you want to know more, and what America's "true birthday" really is, read on.
Though we can specifically target when a human being is born (first breath), finding the birthday of a nation is a different thing entirely. If you want to know more about the reasoning as to why today is not when the United States was "born" as a country, please go to Is July 4 The Actual Birthday of the United States?
Though short, it introduces the reasoning behind the subject, and offers introductory information that is extensively explored in another article, Happy Birthday to the United States of America - Or is it? This one is full of scholarly reasoning and facts around the birth of the US government, and offers arguments as to why we must use either the chart for the Articles of Confederation or the ratification of the Constitution as the true birth chart for the US.
Whether we use the chart for the Articles of Confederation, or ratification of the Constitution, one thing is clear. July 4, 1776, was NOT when this nation was "born." Enjoy wandering through the linked articles, and draw what conclusions you will. And Happy July 4 anyway!
