Or anything else that is burning electricity, of course. If you can't turn off all the lights for an hour at 8:30 pm local time, then turn off as many as possible. Cut the power any way you feel is good. Other things to turn off are computers, speakers, monitors, and printers if you're not using them. A hundred million people reducing 10 watts each is a billion watts not used!
And of course, being aware of how we can reduce our waste of power on a daily basis is also a good practice in mindfulness! As I once read, "Live simply so that others may simply live."

We turned out our lights in the afternoon, unplugged everything, including pc and tv. Enjoyed an evening by candlelight and oil lamp. Didn't plug back in until today. Try it, you will like it.

Ever conscious of conserving power (and the bill), I have to admit this is one energy-saving campaign we enthusiastically embraced, albeit unintentionally...
High winds blew out our power at 8:27 pm on March 27 - I absolutely ADORE the irony!
Love & Light-saving - Yay!

Hi all - we cut off almost all our powered machines around 7:15 pm and didn't turn them back on until about 6:30 am the next morning. And yes, sometimes nature Herself cooperates with the moment in some amazingly ironic circumstances!

My Good Old Dad is always putting accentuating this fact, "Turn off the lights when you go out; unplug your computer even if you are not using it.!" he tells me every time he comes and visit.

Hi J - Yes, I got such lectures from my German grandfather when I was young, and have been autoprogrammed since then to turn off the lights, shut off the monitor, tv, sound system, and any other thing that uses electricity if I'm not in the room. Of course, I draw the line at unplugging refrigerators!;-)
