We are in the heart of the Sun opposition Jupiter and Uranus which will be exact on September 21. What could this mean?
I've always felt the opposition is one of the best aspects, in that we can come to greater awareness through transcending polarity. Any opposition shows a polarity. It may be that it demonstrates as a head butt or other form of push, a pulling apart, or a see saw between the opposing forces. But a transiting opposition, whether to a natal planet or another transiting planet, can also show that something is coming to surface, leading us to greater awareness of polarized forces within a greater whole or process.
An opposition is where a process is "full phase" or 180 degrees from where it started. It occurs after a "below the surface" period of growth, and represents the point where that process goes public, or shows itself to the world.
In traditional astrology, oppositions are said to create tension. That's only true in the sense that we become aware of "the tension of opposites," and must take another view into account. If we can encompass both poles of the opposition within a greater awareness, then they can be productive of great understanding, both of form and process.
The perspectives available at an opposition help us to see what's emerging, what's being left behind, and how a larger process is unfolding, preparing for the next chapter en route to the fulfillment that is shown at the waning (upper) square. So what are these current oppositions indicating?
First, this is the turning point of what began back when the Sun conjuncted Jupiter and Uranus in the Spring of 2010. That point of fusion and birth is now at full phase. This is where the Light illuminates the axis of Virgo-Pisces for all to see how they are dealing with these energies, for good or ill.
We are told Jupiter is the expansive principle. It can be a protective force, or extravagant. It can bless and open broader vistas, or it can show waste and scattered imaginings.
When the Sun opposes Jupiter it's a challenge to get clear about larger opportunities, larger truths, larger views, and larger forms of service. As the Sun is illuminating and integrating, it shows a time when if we can get a larger point of view, we can live a greater life adventure.
Dr. Marc Jones says this aspect indicates a major problem is finding one's place of greatest service to others, as well as an effective justification for self-expression. He states that this aspect can lead to attempting to force issues or act with too much presumption.
He goes on to state that great success can come from developing specialized forms of self-dramatization, as well as "a capacity to win the cooperation of others" without sacrificing one's freedom to act, and learning to keep the initiative in our own hands.
As for Uranus, the great individualizer, it is a transpersonal planet and so is not subject to the usual planetary dualities. It is a transpersonal force, showing us genius, uniqueness, absolute freedom, and is a very eccentric energy that can be both explosive and synthesizing.
When the Sun opposes Uranus it may produce electrical storms, but also bring forth unique forms of genius, as well as highly charged and specialized situations. It is somewhat unpredictable, but these periods can be explosively exciting, bringing forth new individual forms never seen before.
Dr. Marc Jones says this aspect indicates a major problem is discovering inner values which "life generally will find most acceptable, and reward most consistently." We are told to apply ourselves rather than make excuses for non-action.
He goes on to state that great success results from rising to some emergency or unexpected circumstance, developing our social intuition, and being wholehearted in pursuing the goals that appeal to us.
Jupiter has been dancing with Uranus for several months, indicating that we are all feeling a vaster experience in unique ways. Wherever this falls in our chart we are encountering revolutionary conditions, even if they are somewhat peculiar, or feel like they are common to all, or are showing us how to bless a passage into a more significant individuation.
This Solar opposition to these two planets shows us a point of awareness about how to ground this vast specializing Piscean energy in practical ways and/or rituals. To note just one way that's being done, September 21st is the International Day of Peace, the annual highlight day of the Cultural Peace Initiative. Check it out via the link!
This global effort to cultivate Peacebuilders and bring forth positivity sounds like a good manifestation of a Sun opposition Jupiter conjunct Uranus! Perhaps there's something in the metaphor for each of us that we can bring to the surface in our lives wherever this opposition falls in our birth charts. However you can, be a Peacebuilder internally and externally wherever you can, using whatever ritual forms you can. It's the only sane way to live!
(Muchas gracias to dcu for drawing my attention to the event. Great synchronicity!)
