The August 2012 New Moon in Leo Pt. 2 - - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means

This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's New Moon in Leo. This one requires that we open to the spiritual linkage coming out of emotional stress, the blessings that come from the death of useless things, and the willingness to love more abundantly and creatively.

This Lunation shows planets widely distributed around the signs. We begin with the usual "anchoring" occupied span between Pluto in Capricorn through Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Aries. This chart also shows Jupiter in Gemini , Venus in Cancer, Mercury and the Lunation in Leo, and both Mars and Saturn in Libra. This gives a very wide spread to the chart since it involves 7 signs all widely spread apart.

This "Splay" Jones Patterns indicates a widely spread out experience, with many strong involvements in areas that may not have that much in common. There are 3 planets in Air, 4 in Fire, 2 in Water, and 1 in Earth. That shows a heavy emphasis on inspired relationships, discoveries and new communications. As Mercury leads this Lunation, it makes the area in our charts where we have Leo of extra importance, since it promises stable information showing us the relatively permanent patterns in our life.

So wherever we have Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Libra in our charts is active, with Leo and Libra the crowded sectors due to the presence of the 3 planets in Leo and 2 in Libra. The general theme is that we are opening to new relationships (including with ourselves!), new ideas (which may be ideas that have endured through our entire life), new perceptions, and new understanding about how to do things in balanced ways, using the natural rhythm of unfoldment to find elegance and beauty in transcendent realizations that take us out of the world of duality. The very favorable sextiles and trines made between the planets in Aries, Gemini, Leo, and Libra offer inspired ideas and interactions, with creativity and originality favored to the max!

Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes no forming major aspects except the powerful sextile to Mars and a wide, out of sign opposition to Neptune. This shows very high productive potential, as long as we’re clear about what roles we’re playing and don’t yield up our will to others who happen to be tricky, deceptive, or overly aggressive.

There are important forming aspects made by other planets. These include Mercury, ruler of Jupiter in Gemini, in a favorable sextile to Jupiter, quintile Saturn, trine Uranus, and quincunx Pluto. That alone shows this will be a time when we can get a LOT accomplished in short order if we know when and how to adjust and/or make crucial sacrifices! Other forming aspects include Venus semisquare Sun, Mars sesquisquare Jupiter, quadranovile Uranus, and out of sign trine to Neptune, Jupiter biseptile Neptune (pushing the Grand Irrationality front and center wherever these fall in our chart), Saturn out of sign trine to Neptune and quintile Pluto, and the ever-present Uranus square Pluto.

Jupiter biseptile Neptune sets the Grand Irrationality into motion wherever we have Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces in our maps. Expect some major choices involving relationships and ideals. As noted in the recent article Astrology in July 2012 - The Grand Irrationality In Motion Triggering the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, many of the important choices and changes occurring now are directly related to the endings that have happened since last year, and this period continues the process. Please refer to the linked article to see which degree zones are being activated at present.

The remarkable thing about this New Moon is the lack of frictional aspects except for Mercury quincunx Pluto, Venus semisquare the Sun, Mars sesquisquare Jupiter and Uranus square Pluto. The sesquisquare is agitating, but not crisis producing. There will be challenging discoveries that will offer us opportunities to be balanced and fair in our responses, creative and sensitive in expressing new heart strengths, and remember that this finishes some “training for perfection” that will make us valuable on a social level.

Mercury quincunx Pluto offers us adjustment that can open us to knowing how to stand for what we believe in as a prelude to a rebirth when we “hear the call,” and find both faith and trust that if we just allow new information to present itself, we’ll find the way to whatever nourishes us that’s hidden.

I’ve discussed Uranus square Pluto to such a degree that I won’t go back into it here. Just remember that we live in a time of the collision of major spiritual forces working at cross purposes to each other. That also means that there is a collision in the material world between conflicting energies, with revolution and renewal challenging the status quo and its assumptions of authority and order. We’ll be dealing with this for a number of years, so keep learning skills and the ability to shift on your own initiative toward that which you should care about, with grace and inner equilibrium.

A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 26 Leo. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.

The symbol is “A rainbow.” According to Rudhyar, this degree is one of “Promise of conscious immortality after the death of useless things,” “Spiritual linkage through emotional stress,” and “blessing.”

In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves “Linking above and below, the Covenant with one’s divine nature, promise of immortality.” Here we confront our divine Archetype to the degree we have been victorious in “crossing the desert” and making it to “the other shore.” Our striving to overcome our trials has established the link between our earthly self and Heavenly Self, and we are told this link must remain unbroken.

He says that this degree “shows us the need to maintain a state of open communication between the Sky and the Earth within our total being…. to face the totality of our individual selfhood.” He states “after every successfully met crisis, the revelation of worth comes to us, and with it comes the promise of success, if only we do our part.” He says it falls in the span of "Interpretation,” and it’s the first degree of the individual mental level of the scene of Consolidation in the Act of Release.

According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of “the overall realization which comes… whenever we strive to reach the goals of a more enduring sort.” Here we’re assured “divine participation” even in difficult circumstances, where we learn about the “consistent ordering” of the world, and that “nature will cooperate effectively with every vision (we choose) to keep alive.”

He offers us the keyword of SIGNIFICANCE. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is "a sense of very real spiritual power and presence in all personal effort and desire.”

So we enter a time of seeing how we are the divine guidance we seek, and we are the bridge between worldly and heavenly things. Here the vision we’ve kept alive will be aided by Nature Herself, and we can find a transcendent peace beyond the push and pulls of this world of duality. Let go of useless things to receive the blessings that enable you to be a greater love, wisdom, productivity, and creativity.

As noted earlier, there are 3 planets in Air, 4 in Fire, 2 in Water, and 1 in Earth. That shows a heavy emphasis on inspired relationships, discoveries and new communications. With only Pluto in an Earth sign, use your innate practicality to keep things grounded as you move through the various interactions and feelings indicated by all the other preponderating elements.

Air and Earth are cool, Fire and Water are hot, so with more planets in Fire and Water, it will be a more emotional time than last month. Still, it should be very good for inspired thinking that moves everything forward, especially now that Mercury, Venus, and Mars are all in direct motion and quickening.

Speaking of Pluto in Capricorn, the Cosmic Purifier continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating ways to get beyond fear and radiate harmlessness and mature fellowship with Nature, whether your own, another's, or Nature Herself.

In the past months we've solidified new roles, new values, and new resources. We're now living some form of the new archetypal roles we began to move into in 2009-2010, and can grow into higher views and truths about basic human skills, expressed through the merging of our higher and lower mind in pleasant and enjoyable discoveries and expressions of what is and what could be.

The next 4 weeks is a time to open to new ways of viewing how to claim our divine power and express it creatively and without fear. Due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011 being activated by Jupiter in the recent past through the Spring of 2013, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear. Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions. As you know, in late May we had another important Solar Eclipse that will open us to newer, deeper insights even as it shuts down even more of the Gemini areas of our lives. I’ve added links to those articles so you can check out how it continues the pattern of the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, and adds a new dimension of understanding what’s ending and why in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Jupiter in Gemini continues to invite us to open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of seeing what’s fair and what isn’t. We can take the patience we’ve cultivated while Jupiter was in Taurus between June 2011 and June 2012 and open to alternative ways of understanding what’s opening for us over the next year. This allows us to see various ways to discover and adapt to our expanding vision so we can become more versatile in becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself."

In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small. This is the time to do something that represents the fulfillment of a life ambition, and accept that we are at the end of one quest and will soon confront a new one.

In this Lunation Jupiter is teaching us to share our “artistry of life,” both to demonstrate our strength as well as inspire others to greater achievements. Here our skills and talent demonstrates our experience, expanding our lives and revealing our true state. We can find great opportunity through a creative assurance which textures our understanding.

In previous weeks, we had chances to adjust our perspective and become more natural and joyous. Due to Venus being retrograde in the May 2012 Solar Eclipse in Gemini, during the time that Eclipse is in force we'll get more than one new look at old values, people, and experiences related to these as they impacted our past. This led to some melt-downs in late June and July, helping us break free of lingering ghosts of old relationship patterns and how we could or could not communicate our likes and dislikes without getting deflected or scattered by others.

The guiding force in that Eclipse indicates that we are now growing into new games, new rules, new skills, and new cooperation. This will confirm some things, while opening new perspectives around self and subconsciousness. That Eclipse will shut down old ideas, understandings, and interpretations that will open new doors of perception for the next 3 + years. Keep growing into a larger view, a greater Truth, and a wider future while cultivating a sense of humor at divergences in opinion and perception.

This Lunation shows we have now cultivated a new strength over the past few months, and are finishing up repairing or reconstructing something so that some final dues are paid and old karmas left behind. We are growing into new heart strengths, new forms of self-expression demonstrating our artistry in crafting our lives, and a new wisdom that can be creatively used to let go of older, lesser things and embrace a more powerful Spiritual linkage we show to our world.

Over the next 4 weeks we’ll be leading with our feelings, then finding information and new views that help us understand and communicate those feelings more easily, and then make decisions on the basis of those ideas about those feeling experiences. We’ll be “feeling our way” into new experiences, and then search for ideas and understanding to confirm or name those experiences. After that we’ll have to make decisions, and then act on those decision.

So feel what must be felt, experience what must be experienced (even if it seems that the past is still more powerful than we’d like!) and then get more information, communicate what must be communicated until you get a clear vision, and then move into decisions and actions on the basis of those new insights. After you do what must be done, then follow a new feeling or sense of experience, then find a new view, new information, and new understanding, and then make a decision and act as you must.

This will be a New Moon period that both stabilizes and releases a lot of energy, where we can see the more enduring elements of our Being and do our artistry in balanced, mature, elegant forms. Settle into the roles that are natural for you, don’t sweat the limitations since aggressive elements are out that that we need to stay free from, and learn to concentrate to stay focused on the whole of things.

While the next 4 weeks requires patience, patience, and more patience, we can follow hunches to find insights and alternative views, and get a lot in motion during this time of maximum productivity with quite a few unique gifts to boot. Here we get stable and inspired inventive insights, along with very productive balanced interactions with others as we all learn about a deeper wisdom once our fascination with outer things lessens.

This time may be agitating, but it is spurring us to maximum productivity, finishing up paying our dues, letting useless things die, and helping us to “spiritual linkage through emotional stress.” There may seem to be very little grounded practicality and a maximum of feeling, inventiveness, and revolution! Concentrate, see the whole picture, welcome opportunities to get polished to perfection, and adjust to open to new information, new interpretations, new compassion, and new insights into the individual or collective unconsciousness. This time can help us know what we’re feeling and allow those feelings to lead us to new views which in turn will lead us into direct action.

So despite things being spread out all over the map, we can still mobilize creatively and achieve inspired action during the next 4 weeks. We can heal into a life renewal, see how the past and future are a continuum that expresses through the NOW, and come to a greater heart love that has a greater ability to see things from multiple angles of understanding to play a role we were born to play.

Whatever has been scattered up to now, weave it all together to demonstrate your skill and virtuosity in expressing your unique song within the greater whole. We are now solidly moving into unknown zones at full speed. You know what to play and how to play it, so take heart that you’re linked strongly with your Divine Self.

Relax into taking center stage, have confidence in the larger, more permanent patterns you’re glimpsing about what you’ve weaved into your very nature, enjoy yourself knowing the worst is over (at least for a while), and relax into playing the role you were born to place. This is the emergence of a new way of living and loving, so let your personality express your Higher Self, since that’s what it’s time to do!

Dear Robert,

Thank you for the clarity of perspective offered in this article. I have been living a transformational process these past few years and with the June 2011 eclipse, a shift of focus occurred where I was finally able to see outside of my limited thinking and feel a larger potential. Since then I have been letting go of old thought forms and ways of being that no longer serve me. July was the month of intense truth and deep soul-searching. Mercury retrograde brought a higher level of understanding my responsibility in creating my life's course.
In reading your words today, I have confirmation of my journey and a renewed
resolve to persevere!

I am reminded of your reference to trans pluto at the end of leo on talk radio.

With the war hopefully behind me (can it be real or just a temporary jolt) I re-assess on some level. I do believe I allowed my spirit to be trampled and crushed. There is no need to beat anybody up about it. I allowed it.

To keep spirit alive is the real test of my strength. I am not sure how to go about this so I am working to be mindful of it and see what happens. So very much transiting planetary energy aspecting my natal chart now.

And Diana, I don't know about anybody else and their gemini. I have no placements there but my SN. For me, at the moment, it's about not slipping back into the child position, the helpless position, in the face of the seeming demands and verbal threats of others. That might have to do (ha ha 'might') have to do with gemini ruling the house of sibs. It is something I share with my younger sib so there is sanity there. She has known this for a long time without really knowing it. I'm slow. Too busy fighting it to see it. I have saturn in my first in scorpio.

The word "agitating" is thee word in my vocabulary at the moment. Every situation and or person is getting to me. It is the worst feeling as it reminds me of quick sand. The more agitated you become the more you sink. Meditation or prayer is what's needed in these challenging times but it's quite difficult to concentrate.
