This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's New Moon in Libra. This one requires that we open to a life renewal that’s already on the way, express our refinement any way we can, and open to seeing the world of the 5 senses and the mind as “the playground of God and Soul.”
This Lunation shows planets widely distributed around the signs. We begin with the usual "anchoring" occupied span between Pluto in Capricorn through Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Aries. This chart also shows Jupiter in Gemini, Venus in Virgo, the Lunation in Libra, Mercury, Saturn, and the North Node in Scorpio, and Mars in Sagittarius. This gives a very wide spread to the chart since it involves 8 signs with a fairly even distribution of planets.
This "Splay" Jones Pattern indicates a widely spread out experience, with many strong involvements in areas that may not have that much in common and a focus on the areas of Virgo through Aries. The largest empty span is between Jupiter in mid-Gemini and Venus in mid-Virgo, showing us where the “void in the atmosphere” is.
There are 3 planets in Air, 2 in Fire, 3 in Water, and 2 in Earth. That shows a fairly balanced atmosphere between the slight emphasis on feelings, ideas, and relationships, and the steady manifestation of inspiration and practicality. As Venus leads this Lunation, it makes the area in our charts where we have Virgo of extra importance, since it indicates our relationships will be very important in showing us ways of service, discipleship, self-adjustment, health, and/or work patterns that agree with us, or that we could learn to like in the future.
Air and Earth are cool, Fire and Water are hot, so with the current planetary elemental balance, it will be as “cool” as it is “hot.” As I noted, feelings and relationships will dominate.
There’s a mix of planets moving forward, backward, and turning. At present, Mercury’s slowing, preparing to go retrograde at 5 Sagittarius on November 6, 3:40 pm PST, 11:40 pm Greenwich (more articles on that coming soon.)
Venus and Mars are speeding up, Jupiter just went retrograde, Saturn’s moving forward steady, Uranus is midway through its retrograde, Neptune is about to go at 1 Pisces on November 11, and Pluto just went direct and will speed up through the end of 2012. So Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Pluto are moving forward quickly, Jupiter and Uranus are taking a look back and Mercury’s about to join them, and Neptune has finished its look back and is about to move the collective consciousness forward into Pisces.
So wherever we have Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius in our charts is active, with Libra and Scorpio the crowded sectors due to the presence of the Lunation plus two planets and the North Node in Scorpio. The general theme is that through our ability to be practical and ideal in our relationships, learning how to hang in there for the long haul and not settle for lesser things, we can find ways to admire differences between people and generate admiration rather than confrontation.
The next 4 weeks are a time to open to forms of renewal, get focused on what matters and get rid of all that doesn’t, follow through on “doing the show” that you’ve been doing, and find new games to play and new perspectives to explore. The very favorable Mercury sextile Venus with Saturn sextile Pluto offer productive communications in relationships that will make things more efficient within a larger productive pattern of letting go of all that isn’t part of the new law of our being or the new roles we’re gladly playing.
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes no frictional aspects, but has two important out of sign aspects (conjunction to Saturn and trine to Neptune) and a specializing quintile to Pluto. That indicates unique and “gifted” circumstances, with a more refined efficiency in the rhythm of how things are done or unfold.
The out of sign aspects indicate something must occur before those aspect conditions can happen. So this is a transitional Lunation, bringing unique gifts and situations forth as prelude to the newer, more psychologically harmonious responsibilities indicated by the trine to Neptune and subsequent conjunction to Saturn. That makes this an important harmonizing Lunation, where some unique seeds will be sewn to sprout beginning late November through early January.
Other important forming aspects include Mercury quincunx Jupiter and septile Pluto, continuing the sequence of Lunations that have been setting the Grand Irrationality into motion. I touched a little on the phenomenon of The Grand Irrationality in part one, and there are numerous articles in the archives explaining what this long wave “crazymaking” set of aspects is all about. I’ll include a link at the end of this article that will open some doors for you.
Even though the configuration is anchored by Neptune and Pluto, the effects are both subtle, powerful, and pervasive. If you consider that the Moon makes conjunctions, septiles, biseptiles, or triseptiles to both Neptune and Pluto seven times every month, it becomes evident that we're never really relieved of the pressure, even if it seems to wax and wane with circumstances. This coming month it’s being triggered by Mercury.
Of course, since Neptune and Pluto are moving forward in the zodiac over the years , the hot zones move forward every year. Right now in late 2012 the 7 "hot zones" of the Grand Irrationality are around 6-10 Capricorn, 28 Aquarius-2 Pisces, 19-23 Aries, 10-14 Gemini, 1-5 Leo, 22-26 Virgo, and 13-17 Scorpio.
If you have planets in or near any of these zones, you are being directly affected by the general irrationality and the pressure of making major choices that will affect your future. This happens both in the life areas of the houses in which these points fall, as well as the life areas ruled by any planets you may have in these zones.
Also, if you have planets before these zones, you were most influenced by the Grand Irrationality in recent years, and if you have planets later than these zones, you will be going through your “forks in the road of destiny” in the future. For now, if you have a planet or sensitive point in any of the 7 hot zones, you can expect that your life will also be at one or more turning points now and for the next few weeks as experienced through some manifestation of Mercury septile Pluto.
I also explained more about the current Grand Irrationality influence in an article I did a few weeks ago. In Astrology in July 2012 - The Grand Irrationality In Motion Triggering the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, I noted that many of the important choices and changes occurring now and for the past few weeks are directly related to the endings that have happened since last year, and this period continues the process.
Overall, besides the Lunation aspects and Mercury aspects mentioned above, we see Venus decile Sun, binovile Mars, square Jupiter, semisquare Saturn, and quadranovile Uranus. We also find Mars opposed to Jupiter and decile Saturn, a very close Jupiter sesquisquare Saturn, and a very powerful Saturn triseptile Uranus, which is the joker in this month’s chart.
As I explained in the last Full Moon article, when the Saturn triseptile Uranus was beginning to form,
Perhaps the most important aspect is Saturn triseptile Uranus, indicating a critical turning point in a larger destiny wherever these occupy our charts. One represents the ongoing revolution of our times, the other represents the ability to structure these revolutionary or individualizing elements into coherent form. This aspect is the last in the sequence that began in November-December 2011 (Saturn 24-27 Libra to Uranus at 1 Aries) and gave us a second look at this cooperative, non-rational, “fork in the road” influence in February-March 2012 (Saturn at 30 Libra to Uranus at 3-5 Aries). This third pass is special in that it is now somewhat wide and forming (from 30 Libra to 7 Aries), and will be a heavy influence for the next month as Saturn slips into Scorpio and makes the exact triseptile in mid-October. Degree spans most impacted involve 30 Libra-4 Scorpio, 22-26 Sagittarius, 13-15 Aquarius, 5-9 Aries, 26-30 Taurus, 18-22 Cancer, and 9-13 Virgo. If you have a planet or sensitive point in any of these spans, you will confront decisive moments and important decisions over the next few weeks.
In some ways these are natural developments from events and decisions that originated between late 2004 and late 2006. These expanded into opportunities, openings, or truths in early 2009, early 2011, and Spring 2012. Now we complete the sequence of choices, and can move forward into appropriate structures for our emergent individuality.
As it combines the revolutionizer with the crystallizer, we can expect to see preliminary structures of revolutionary conditions, as well as the renovation of obsolete or stagnant structures. These will be most obvious when encountering situations involving stuck or toxic feelings. It will bring radical choices and changes wherever we have early Aries and early Scorpio in our charts.
Overall, the forming aspects are showing us how to expand in the way we show tenderness and care, how and why we need some kind of exercise, and how to release ourselves from old inhibitions. We are also being shown productive ways to find glimpses of a higher purpose, make our view more childlike to repotentialize our mind, and learn when to withdraw from situations with great dignity and poise.
When things start spinning out of control or getting magnified in strange ways, step back and ask if you really need to be involved in that drama or pseudo-opportunity that isn’t really related to what you want. Let go of everything petty, selfish, petulant, exaggerated, hyperbolic, or less than what you would get if you just hung in there, and if you must explain something or learn something, it’s probably more a matter of style than substance.
Though the annoyance factor may seem high, it’s not really crisis producing, but it is the equivalent of a psychic elimination through transmutation of mental processes. It’s a time of rehearsing before a rebirth, but you’ll need some quiet space and time to get a new inspiration.
Use knowledge of past cycles and events to anticipate what’s coming down the road, and remember that it’s a cosmic moment of pause which presages change. Be ready to act quickly when necessary, and don’t fall into distress at not knowing what’s coming. A rebirth is coming, the dawning of a new day, so relax into it.
There are quite a few separating aspects in this New Moon, some very powerful. These indicate past conditions that have led us to this point. They include Moon and Sun semisquare Mars and trine Jupiter, Mercury tredecile Neptune, Venus opposed Neptune and trine Pluto, Mars trine Uranus and square Neptune, Jupiter quintile Uranus, Saturn trine Neptune, and Uranus square Pluto.
I can’t go into what each of these mean since there are too many ways to interpret these things. In general we’ve had harmonizing and stabilizing conditions, greater understanding and expanded ways of living. While there have been some internal crises associated with the Lights semisquare Mars, it’s just the close of the old Sun-Mars cycle that began at 16 Aquarius on Feb 4, 2011. We’ve now at the end of that cycle, and being led into a preparation for a new set of life initiatives wherever the coming Sun conjunct Mars at 29 Aries occurs on April 18, 2013.
We’ve had a great view open due to the Lights separating trine to Jupiter and harmonious new developments from Mars trine Uranus, with gifts and new life directions having opened up as shown by the separating Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus aspects. And to note, though separating, Uranus will be squaring Pluto off and on for many years to come!
I’ve discussed Uranus square Pluto to such a degree that I won’t go back into it here. Just remember that we live in a time of the collision of major spiritual forces working at cross purposes to each other. That also means that there is a collision in the material world between conflicting energies, with revolution and renewal challenging the status quo and its assumptions of authority and order. We’ll be dealing with this for a number of years, so keep learning skills and the ability to shift on your own initiative toward that which you should care about, with grace and inner equilibrium.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 23 Libra. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The symbol is “Chanticleer.” According to Rudhyar, this degree is one of “Capacity for self-refreshment as the inner sources of ever-reviewed life,” “Anticipation of opportunity,” and “Security in Self.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves “A creative and joyous response to life processes,” where we see how to “give voice to what is as yet unmanifested, but is on the way to manifestation.” Here we can find a “vivid recognition of the as-yet-unknown in the known,” where we “herald the coming of a new day.”
He says that what is at stake in this degree is our individual ability of responding to life’s renewals, “renewals which are cyclic, predictable, yet always new, always creative.” He says it falls in the span of "Revelation,” and it’s the third, or synthesizing degree of the emotional-cultural level of the scene of Reconstruction in the Act of Group Integration.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of “the soul’s ultimate self-realization through a basic integrity of its own insights or judgments,” where we can be accepted for playing the role we’re supposed to. He offers that practical rewards come from effectively dramatizing our distinctions, as well as through “the enduring significance which the self achieves… through the place in life it succeeds in making its own.”
He offers us the keyword of FERVOR. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is "a fearless self-affirmation which gains a sympathetic attention and wins immediate allegiance form the hearts and minds of everybody.”
So we enter a time of seeing the dawning of a new day through the “basic integrity of our insights and judgments,” where we can get revelations, rewards, “self-refreshment,” anticipate opportunities, and find security in being our Higher Self. Playing the role we’re born to play, enjoying our natural limits, brings gifts and specialized talents and insights. Find your significance in the scheme of things, and kick back and play your part!
Pluto, the Cosmic Purifier will be in Capricorn for many years. It continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating ways to get beyond fear and radiate harmlessness and mature fellowship with Nature, whether your own, another's, or Nature Herself.
In the past months we've solidified new roles, new values, and new resources. We're now living some form of the new archetypal roles we began to move into in 2009-2010, and can grow into higher views and truths about basic human skills, expressed through the merging of our higher and lower mind in pleasant and enjoyable discoveries and expressions of what is and what could be.
The next 4 weeks continues to be a time to open to new ways of viewing how to claim our divine power and express it creatively and without fear. Due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011 being activated by Jupiter in the recent past through the Spring of 2013, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear.
Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions. I've included links to those Eclipse articles.
As you know, in late May we had another important Solar Eclipse that will open us to newer, deeper insights even as it shuts down even more of the Gemini areas of our lives. I’ve added links to those articles so you can check out how it continues the pattern of the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, and adds a new dimension of understanding what’s ending and why in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Jupiter in Gemini continues to invite us to open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of seeing what’s fair and what isn’t. We can take the patience we’ve cultivated while Jupiter was in Taurus between June 2011 and June 2012 and open to alternative ways of understanding what’s opening for us over the next year. This allows us to see various ways to discover and adapt to our expanding vision so we can become more versatile in becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself."
In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small. This is the time to do, learn, or communicate something that arises through a recognition of some need of the inner Self. Expect some interesting things to assert themselves!
In this Lunation Jupiter is teaching us through reviewing recent truths and visions to see new interpretations of our “inborn wisdom,” and we’re steadily growing into realizations about deeper realities that are under, behind, and around outer things. Forced adjustments and momentary sacrifices will teach us a more effective organization of energies in a fulfillment of our authority through new activities involving group energy, as well as ways to take the initiative and focus our power for greater effectiveness.
In previous weeks, we had chances to adjust our perspective and become more natural and joyous. Due to Venus being retrograde in the May 2012 Solar Eclipse in Gemini, during the time that Eclipse is in force we'll get more than one new look at old values, people, and experiences related to these as they impacted our past. This led to some melt-downs in late June and July, helping us break free of lingering ghosts of old relationship patterns and how we could or could not communicate our likes and dislikes without getting deflected or scattered by others.
The guiding force in that Eclipse indicates that we are now growing into new games, new rules, new skills, and new cooperation. This will confirm some things, while opening new perspectives around self and subconsciousness. That Eclipse will shut down old ideas, understandings, and interpretations that will open new doors of perception for the next 3 + years. Keep growing into a larger view, a greater Truth, and a wider future while cultivating a sense of humor at divergences in opinion and perception.
This Lunation is the first New Moon with Saturn in Scorpio. We have now cultivated a new strength over the past few months, come to a philosophical completion, and finished repairing or reconstructing something so that some final dues are now paid and old karmas left behind. We are growing into a new intensity, focus, emotional depth, and greater maturity relative to shared values, shared resources, deeper ability to commune with others as well as Nature and Spirit, and getting a more structured connection and a more powerful Spiritual linkage with others and ourselves.
As with the past 4 weeks, over the next 4 weeks we’ll still be leading with our feelings, then making decisions on the basis of those feeling experiences, followed by new information, new ideas, new interpretations, and new views. We’ll be “feeling our way” into new experiences, then deciding and acting on the basis of those feelings. After a decision or action, then we’ll have to find newer, more up to date information, facts, and understanding so we can get a new vision.
So feel what must be felt, experience what must be experienced (even if it seems that the past is still more powerful than we’d like!) and then get clear about what must be done and how. Then get more information, communicate what must be communicated until you get a clear vision, and then move with your feelings into new decisions and actions which in turn lead to new ideas and understanding.
This will be a New Moon period that initiates a new way of being and doing in many life areas. It will be a highly energetic time, both personally, socially, and spiritually. Here we see the light of dues we’ve paid in the past, and see where the road leads.
This is a point of emergence for everyone, both individually and socially, so leave the old feelings behind as you enter a new realm more in line with who you are than who you were. A new law was put into motion in 2011 by our innermost core of Being, and this is the time to relax into the new roles, new limits, new duties, and new ways of enjoying being who you are in the world.
The next 4 weeks are about the new day, the new play, the new role, and the elegant expression of self in the world. We’ve had a lot of freedom from the past going on over the past 4 weeks, and now we’re turning to the new. Use your ability to do trade-offs, bargaining while showing fairness “in the marketplace,” whether of goods, ideas, or interactions.
We have been recently freed from old points of view, old ideas, old ways of communicating, old limitations, old situations, and old sophistications. That way we’re free to see the world of the 5 senses and the mind as “the playground of God and Soul,” find a new “honesty in self-expression,” let go of “bondage to old sense patterns,” and glimpse where our greatest future growth is to be found.
Test out new ways of interpreting what your senses are telling you, new ways of interacting with others, express your “absolute self-integrity,” and be open to Spirit showing you how to coordinate the inner with the outer. Open to a greater, deeper, and more authentic set of interactions with others, and commit to whatever is truly worthwhile. Here we can discover newer, more effective “facets of selfhood.”
So despite things being spread out all over the map, destiny continues to be on the move in areas involving Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Pisces during the next 4 weeks, with an entirely different set of patterns also moving different elements of our destiny forward involving Aries, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Aquarius parts of our lives. Obviously things are in motion!
Don’t long for what’s been left behind, since there are deeper, more authentic and powerful roles to play. Learn the rules of the game, see the dues you’ve paid that allow you to move into new days and ways, and remember that what arises is a result of knowing your role, playing it well, and previous opportunities to link with your Divine Self.
Relax into having confidence in the larger, more permanent patterns you’re glimpsing and weaved into your very nature, enjoy yourself knowing that the new way is actually happening and you just have to keep your eyes on the prize and hang in there, and go beyond the surface of things to know how to move with greater ease through the comings and goings of the world. We’re in the heart of a larger decision making process that is moving all of us into new lives freed from old stuck stuff.
Be a good sport, and find new views that open your sense of humor, or at least a sense of the absurdity of some things! We’re all still being educated in flexibility while bringing our cultural excellence to the surface of our personalities. This is the time to see the light and life potential grounded in the platform we launched from this past Summer.
Even though the day may not yet have dawned to your satisfaction, it’s on the way. Those who have ears and listen will hear the call of what is coming. Revise your thinking, and you’ll know both what that is, as well as how to dance between what was, what is, and what will be, experiencing a fluid continuity in your life growth.

Yes, the structure is incoherent yet. The wheat has pretty much been separated from the chaff which leaves me down to where I live. Not my locale only, but where I am at. Am drawing in support but not yet hopping on opportunities. I am more than slightly intrigued by the 2004-2006 span you mention. I can look at what was set in motion during those years and how I moved forward with that. It hasn't come easy, that's for sure. And was it really that easy anyway?
