Horary astrology is the branch where a chart done for the time of a question is said to show the answer to that question. Today we examine a horary I did a few weeks ago on who would win this election.
I asked the question on Oct 3, 2012, at 9:39 am in Tucson, Arizona. A copy of the chart is at the bottom of this article. The chart has exactly 22 Scorpio rising, and 29 Leo 29 on the Midheaven.
We see the North Node and Mars rising at 27 and 28 Scorpio, Pluto at 7 Capricorn in the 2nd, and Neptune conjunct Chiron at 1 and 6 Pisces in the 4th. Uranus is 7 Aries in the 5th, and Moon is in the 6th at 21 Taurus with South Node in the 7th at 27. Jupiter is at 17 Gemini in the 7th, POF is at 2 Cancer in the 8th, and Venus is conjunct TransPluto both at 1 Virgo conjunct the MC. The Sun is 11 Libra in the 11th, and Mercury conjuncts Saturn at 28 and 30 Libra in the 12th.
First, one caveat about reading Horary charts: they cannot be read the way you would read a natal chart. There are different rules for interpretation which don’t factor into natal readings. For example, a Horary should never have the very end or very beginning of a sign on the Asc, nor should the Moon be void of course. The only exceptions to these I’ve seen over the years is if the Ascendant or Moon fits closely into the chart of the querent, or in some way the Ascendant or Moon exactly describes the subject of the Horary question.
It’s a classic SeeSaw Jones pattern, showing clear lines of polarization. Moon in Taurus opposed Mars in Scorpio on the horizon with the Moon’s Nodes. And Venus in Virgo opposed Neptune in Pisces also on the vertical angle. So both angles have strong oppositions from primary planets. We can apply the same rules of contest analysis I touched on in the Dixville Notch chart. The Ascendant is the challenger, the Descendant the defender. Again, to remind you, Romney has a Moon conjunct Jupiter in late Scorpio, and the Mars in the Horary is the exact degree of Romney’s Moon and Jupiter. So clearly the question has relevance to the issue since the Ascendant exactly describes the challenger. Other correlations show the Horary Sun at the same degree as Romney’s Neptune, the Horary Chiron on Romney’s Mars, and the Horary Jupiter on Romney’s Uranus.
The ruler of the Horary Descendant is Venus at 1 Virgo, and this is somewhat close to Obama’s Pluto. Other correlations include Obama’s IC close to the Horary South Node in the 7th, and Obama’s Venus at 2 Cancer the exact degree of the Horary POF.
One thing to remember. The Horary is a snapshot for what was going on at the time. While they show what is, and what is to come, there are many ways to interpret a given future aspect.
In the Horary, the challenger is extremely strong since the ruler of the Asc is in the Asc in its home sign. The North Node is considered a beneficial influence in classic Horary, but if you’ve been coming here for any length of time you know that I consider the Nodes from a different angle of function. In brief, the North Node brings challenges for growth, while the South Node is the line of least resistance, something we’ve done that’s become easy, even if we don’t grow from it.
The ruler of the Descendent is not strong by sign or house, even if it is the most elevated planet in the chart. Neither ruler is in the house of the other, so that is indeterminate. The Moon in the 6th close to the Descendant indicates the public and women in general favor the defender, as does Venus ruling the defender.
Jupiter in the 7th is favorable for the defender. This is a karmic election, due to Mercury conjunct Saturn in the 12th in mutual reception to the ruler of the defender. The 4th usually has a lot to do with the outcome, and there we see Neptune in Pisces. Besides flooding being a major factor in this election, it also indicates the many intrigues and dirty tricks in play in this election.
Aspects to the ruler of the challenger are Moon opposed Mars, Mercury semisextile Mars, Venus square Mars (out of sign separating), Sun semisquare Mars, Mars semisextile Saturn, Mars square Neptune (out of sign forming), and Mars novile Pluto.
Aspects to the ruler of the defender are Moon trielftile (97+) Venus, Mercury and Saturn both in productive sextile to Venus, Sun novile Venus, (again) Venus square Mars, Venus quintile Jupiter, Venus biquintile Uranus, Venus exactly opposition Neptune, and Venus trine Pluto.
Traditionally, this would indicate a much more favorable contest for the defender, due to the overwhelming number of favorable aspect to their ruler. We see a tally of 4 major frictional aspects to the ruler of the Ascendant and only 2 frictional aspects to the ruler of the Descendant. We see 2 mildly favorable aspects to the ruler of the Ascendant, and 5 favorable aspects to the ruler of the Descendant.
Again, of note is that 30 Aquarius is on the IC (Nadir) with Neptune at 1 Pisces. This is said to indicate the outcome of the contest. Here’s where you get an interesting surprise!
Remember the Dixville Notch chart? It has 30 Leo on the Asc, and 30 Aquarius on the Dsc. It has 22 Taurus on the MC (Midheaven) and 22 Scorpio on the IC. Those angles are the identical degrees of the Horary chart, with a quarter turn! The Horary Asc is the Dixville IC, the Horary Dsc is the Dixville MC, the Horary MC is the Dixville Asc, and the Horary IC is the Dixville Dsc.
That means the outcome (IC) of Election 2012 shown in the Dixville Notch chart is the exact degree and planetary position of the Horary Descendant. If the outcome favors 30 Aquarius, and that’s the challenger’s exact degree in the Election chart, it implies the defender will dominate the outcome.
Other correlations for your consideration involve the Horary Sun at the exact degree of the Election Venus, the Horary Moon close to the Election POF, all of the outers close but with Saturn in a different sign, showing something has changed in that function between the Horary and now.
Given that the Election Chiron, the Horary Chiron, and Obama’s natal Chiron are ALL at exactly 6 Pisces, it would seem that energy is pervading this election. Perhaps this is helping Obama heal into his Higher Self, which would be welcome given all he hasn’t done in his first term. And the Election and Horary North Node being on Romney’s Moon and Jupiter should be helping him grow through 6th house affairs.
Anyway, that’s enough speculation about Election 2012. Please feel free to offer your insights or share your own Horary charts about this event.

You have been right about dirty tricks, Fortunately the defective voting machines are being documented on Youtube. Unfortunately there have been a number of locations in which they've been discovered.

I cannot speak to the charts, but i am wondering why none of the election analysis I read in astro blogs contemplates the Uranus-Pluto squares together with the statistical evidence that the Republican Party has painted itself into a white, affluent corner, so much that future election cycles may now begin to open to third parties. I hope this is the case.

Thank You Robert. I think it’s going to be a long night, but I know from personal experience you have been correct and on target in these matters before ;-) !!

I'm not skilled in horary and I don't know who won (are these elections presidental or parlamentar?). I don't watch tv, so..
Mars is in its own house, so the main man stays. Moon is in 6th, people are worried about jobs, Moon in Taurus - they think about food and material life. People are with oponent, but his planet is Venus, very weak in Virgo. Somehow he is "small", not supported with big guys... And that's it. Everything remains the same.

I was hoping for a bit on how you arrived at the time. I do understand the moment is for when the astrologer understands the question but I am a curious sort. ;-) I shared a link for this on my astrology FB page.

Hi all - Thanks for checking in.
Hi yzse - These elections are presidential and congressional. There is no Parliamentary system in the US, though we do have a bicameral Legislature. Would that we did have a third and even fourth party. It would be good for our country, in that the Legislature would have to forge compromise coalitions.
Hi Tim - It popped into my head in a particularly forceful way. That's usually when I know a horary chart is valid. In another interesting horary on the same subject, I also asked the same question on June 28 at 10:28:30 pm MDT at 33N08 107W15. The Ascendant in that one is the same degree as my Moon, so it's also valid.
Of note is that horary was asked before the primaries had determined Romney was the challenger, so he wasn't necessarily represented by the Ascendant, though it did indicate the potential Republican challenger. In any case, enjoy exploring horary astrology!
