Over the next 4 weeks, the New Moon in Aquarius indicates a time where we will hit a turning point in our lives and appreciation will reap major rewards in the future. The next four weeks we get to expand into multiple levels of living, and find solid understanding of how to stand for what we believe in, and hear the call to some form of life renewal. This period shows us how to sidestep hassles that aren’t our to take on.
This New Moon in Aquarius is idealizing, relational, generalizing, and will show us how to make progress within simpler, more comfortable circumstances. Figure out who your friend are or aren’t, be thoughtful and intuitive in playing it somewhat conservatively, and find “unusual good luck” by putting together a bigger picture as you search for the deeper meaning of the mystery that presents itself to you. This is a time of emotional revelation for many, and these revelations will sprout wings and take flight in July and August 2013.
The next four weeks will throw everyone into a stabilizing synthesized view wherever we have Aquarius in our charts, while continuing the lessons of having faith that if we just do the right things at the right time to sense what will nourish us and do what we must to bring it up to the surface of our life, we shall have our faith rewarded and see how we’re in a cooperative dance with Nature Herself.
This time will open up new vision, new depth-understanding, new connections, and new relationships. There is much “soft power” available for those who are following through on playing the plan they implemented last month, but keep in mind that with Saturn in Scorpio, we’re still in a long term elimination-regeneration phase of our lives and work.
Saturn continues to set up situations where we’ll all be introduced into more complex, intense, and/or deep relationships. The next 4 weeks will continue our process of going deeper into the vision glimpsed the last two New Moons, and help us understand through practical efforts who we’re related to spiritually, and who understands us (and who doesn’t!)
This stabilizing and idealizing relational New Moon occurs at 22 Aquarius on February 9, 11:20 pm PST, 2:20 am EST February 10, and 7:20 am Greenwich. When a Lunation is on one of the angles of a chart, it is said to be particularly powerful. Among the cities covered in this column, this month the Lunation is culminating in Moscow, Pakistan, and India, setting in Tokyo, eastern Australia, and New Zealand, on the nadir in the west coast of North America, and rising in Rio, Lisbon, and London. This Lunation shows early Scorpio through early Sagittarius rising across North America.
The Lunation finds 6 Scorpio rising in Santa Monica, 28 Libra in Vancouver, 6 Sagittarius in Montreal, 7 Sagittarius in Washington DC, 4 Aquarius in Rio, 16 Aquarius in Lisbon, 18 Aquarius in London, 15 Pisces in Berlin, 18 Taurus in Moscow, 7 Aries in Sofia, and 8 Aries rising in Johannesburg.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find Ascendants at 12 Gemini in Abbottabad, 13 Gemini in New Delhi, 3 Gemini in Trivandrum, 14 Cancer in Hong Kong, 4 Leo in Tokyo, 22 Gemini in Perth, 16 Cancer in Melbourne, 1 Leo in Brisbane, 20 Leo in Wellington, and 4 Libra rising on Maui (Jan 9).
So you can construct a rough chart for where you are in the world, I’ll give you the rounded up degree for each planet. Use the Ascendants given above to get a rough sense of what’s on the eastern horizon where you are, and using an Equal House system, you can see what’s going on in your part of the world for the next 4 weeks.
In this New Moon at 22 Aquarius, Mercury is 8 Pisces, Venus is 11 Aquarius, Mars is 7 Pisces, Jupiter is 7 Gemini, Saturn is 12 Scorpio, Uranus is 6 Aries, Neptune is 3 Pisces, Pluto is 11 Capricorn, TransPluto is 1 Virgo, Chiron is 9 Pisces, and the NN is 22 Scorpio.
This is the ninth in a sequence of New Moons that fall in the sign preceding the Sun of the following Full Moon. In other words, this New Moon in Aquarius will have a Full Moon in Pisces and Virgo. This reverses the sequence of the 20 months preceding the 2012 Gemini New Moon that all had the New Moon in the same sign as the subsequent Full Moon.
That pattern is now reversed for many months to come. I explain this phenomenon and what it means in the Full Moon articles, so I’ll elaborate on this new beginning that reverses “the natural order of things” in the next Full Moon articles coming in about two weeks.
The New Moons and Full Moons are “God’s footprints in time.” Each shows the next in the 12 phases of how things come to be each year. The cycle could be described as follows: Life energy is initiated in Aries, substantiated in Taurus, explored in Gemini, grounded in Cancer, renewed and creatively expressed in Leo, refined and ordered in Virgo, balanced in Libra, purified in Scorpio, expanded in Sagittarius, organized in Capricorn, solidified into a vision in Aquarius, and ended/perpetuated in Pisces.
This New Moon at 22 Aquarius, like other recent Lunations, puts the focus on learning, communicating, discovering, and perceiving new ideas and ways of relating to others due to Jupiter being the handle of the “Bucket” Jones pattern at 7 Gemini. This is the degree where it went stationary direct on January 30, 3:37 am PST, 11:37 am UT.
Much that we focus on during the next 4 weeks will help us to a new understanding, a new view, a new way of organizing all the information and potential opened in previous New Moons that had Jupiter at this degree, and center us in the faith that if we know what will nourish us, go to the right place and do the right effort, we shall find what we need.
So as with past Lunations since last Summer, while Jupiter is in Gemini we’ll continue to learn more and more, expanding into new truths and potential futures that have opened since then. This is a phase where we complete a major chapter in our liberation from ghosts of the past going on since the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse. When Jupiter retrograded over the degree of that eclipse in late November and early December, it accelerated the eclipse effect, so we’ve recently shed even more ghosts of the past.
This process will be done by this Spring. You can find out more about what Jupiter going direct means for all of us by checking out the articles at the bottom of this one.
A Little More About the Past As Prologue
When Venus first transited the Gemini zone of the Grand Irrationality in the third and fourth week of April 2012, it triggered that long wave influence, as well as set off echoes of the Gemini Solar Eclipse of June 2011 which also fell in the Gemini zone of that powerful configuration. We went through the second phase of that influence with more “irrational” destiny-producing developments (which could be good or bad, depending) when it next occupied 14-18 Gemini, as well as when Mercury and the Sun also transited this zone, between May 31 and June 10, 2012.
We saw further major developments related to these “forks in the road of destiny” allowing us to be liberated from the ghosts of the past in the last half of July 2012. Now Jupiter is and will continue to be close to the Eclipse degree through Spring 2013. This indicates we were definitely in a zone of major teachings, opportunities, or some other Jupiter expression this past Autumn through late November, with final exams to come in April and early May 2013.
We’ll get another round of “expansion through sacrifice” tests in late March 2012 when Jupiter is again involved in Yods, or Fingers of God,” with Saturn and Pluto (like December 2012), but with the additional interlocking Yod created by the planets in Aries sextile Jupiter and all quincunx to Saturn. This is an intense “spiritualizing” influence, so prepare for major developments!
What’s of importance is that Jupiter will now liberate and bless the ideas and views we came to value between April and July 2012. Also, in late November and early December 2012 Jupiter was triseptile Saturn from the same signs as this Lunation, so consider this the next and final step in that collective interactive destiny producing period.
The Grand Irrationality
The reason this section is a recurring feature in the Lunation articles is because it was set into long term play by the 2011 Solar Eclipse, which is triggered each time any transiting planet occupies any of the 7 zones of the Grand Irrationality. Jupiter in Gemini now moves forward, and will set long wave Eclipse effects into motion through April 2013.
We will no doubt see dramatic developments in April, as the Sun, Venus, and Mars will all occupy the Aries zone, creating major shifts wherever these fall in our charts, as well as the houses they rule. These shifts will relate directly to whatever was set into motion the past few days as Mercury and Mars conjuncted Neptune and septiled Pluto. We’ll see the light around these changes when the Sun conjuncts Neptune and septiles Pluto between February 17-22. I’ll discuss more about the Aries triggers as these aspects get closer.
The Grand Irrationality is finally NOT a direct influence during this Lunation due to no planetary aspects setting it off!! Enjoy the breather, since we went through a long string of Lunations involving planets triggering the Grand Irrationality in 2012. And of course, it will be activated as the transits move through any and all of the 7 “hot zones” created by Neptune septile Pluto. We had an activation that began the first week of January, and again in the middle of January via Venus and as just noted, in the near past via Mars and Mercury.
Though it’s not in major play as a function of the New Moon, a bit of explanation about this thing called “the Grand Irrationality” may serve to help new readers understand why everything continues to be so weird. As I’ve explained many times before, the Grand Irrationality is a long wave non-rational influence that has put everyone on Earth on the unceasing edge of major choice and change.
Everyone has been confronting inner compulsions, continual choices that seem to have a major impact on our destiny, and occasionally irrational behaviors in others or external conditions. It is why things seem to have an unending hard edge, why so many choices are continually thrown in our faces that require immediate attention, and why reason seems to fail at critical moments of decision.
When the Grand Irrationality is in play, it’s a time when things don’t have to make sense. Get used to it, since we’ve been living with it for about 17 years, and will for a few more years to come.
The only thing that matters is that we learn how to ride this ever-changing wave of very strange and weird human experience, and not get lost in our own obsessions, compulsions, and the general irrationality of our times. I recently posted a thorough explanation of this phenomenon in 21st Century Astrology – What is the Grand Irrationality and Why is Everything So Weird? Please re-visit that article to understand more about this recurring energy affecting the collective atmosphere.
More on how we’re still influenced by the 2011 Solar Eclipse in Gemini
The 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse that triggered the Grand Irrationality for years to come has liberated all of us from some elements and ghosts of our past, freeing us from old preconceptions and chains of mental slavery. That intense activation of June 2011 has shown as hectic intense bursts that often made no sense during the past 21 months when coupled with the current “off and on” patterns of other planets in irrational relationships.
For example, in this chart the Sun and Moon biseptile Jupiter and Jupiter is Saturn, both of which show major choices affecting our destiny wherever we have late Aquarius, early Gemini, and mid-Scorpio, as well as the houses where we have Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. Choose wisely, since this Lunation charts a course you’ll follow through October 2013.
The Gemini Solar Eclipse of 2011 has challenged us since then to find ways to liberate ourselves from unhelpful views and attitudes while staying on track with the new elements arising from the numerous conjunctions to Jupiter in Aries of March through May 2012 that have presented themselves over the past 22 months. In this Lunation, Jupiter continues to bring us information, understanding, higher perspectives, and different Spiritual awareness while it occupies Gemini.
When Jupiter went direct in motion December 2011, it launched our 2012 Jupiterian adventure. We finished substantiating and confirming some things the first 5+ months of 2012, and since then we’ve all had opportunities to open to larger ideas, larger opportunities, larger understanding, and larger futures.
We acquired some of the assets we needed while Jupiter was in Taurus from June 2011 through June 2012, and stabilized a growth pattern. We did a review and consolidated these things the last half of 2011, and were able to move forward in 2012, even though this involved multiple Mercury, Venus, and Mars retrograde periods through the first 7 months of the year.
So things became more solid and stable between February and June 2012, after which new worlds and new discoveries opened. Now we’ve gotten a lot of information about what we need to learn or understand related to the new archetypes we began to live in 2010-2011. With Jupiter retrograde, we’ve been in a several month period where we’ve gotten new insights into new knowledge and awareness of how to incorporate the discoveries since June into our lives.
Now we continue our emotional, social, and cultural discoveries, and have just finished a 7+ month review of how we’re relating to energy and whether we’re being passive or active in how we use it to steer a course to our liking. Now that Jupiter is again direct in motion, we will have a favorable tide with which to launch our new ideas of how to practice skills to find that which sustains our efforts.
In part 2, we’ll explore more about the influences of this stabilizing New Moon, and the importance of Saturn, Neptune, and Chiron as we stand on the cusp between the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius.
To learn more about what’s coming now that Jupiter has gone direct, here are two articles that address that exact thing. At the bottom of part 1, there’s a link to what I wrote when it went retrograde last October about what we could expect these past few months.

Hi Robert, Greetings from the AQU Stream of Consciousness. This New Moon looks interesting as it is conjunct w/in one deg of my Natal Sun @ 21AQU (end of 9H) on my bday no less. fwiw, since around 1990, my sis and I (twin ASCs @ 18GEM though we're 5.5 yrs apart) have been trading back and forth, through postcards and lithos, the classic 19th century Japanese pic of the Tsunami (wave of critical mass) by Hokusai. And, looking around the interwebs, it almost looks as though the tipping point is here. The image of the epic, record-breaking wave surfed by Garrett McNamara (HI, USA) in Portugal also springs to mind. Thoughts?

Hi Robert,
Great stuff as usual! I'm personally looking forward to this one, as it's directly on my sun, so it should be fun. I'm curious though, when will the lunations switch back to normal...? Ie full moon falling in the opposite sign of the new moons.
Best,
JP
Ps. ZM, i totally get what you are saying about Mcnamara wave, that was totally amazing!

Hi zm - A number of years back I saw a video of an amazing guy surfing a tsunami that was only shot through a hand held long distance lens. He was taken by surprise, lifted up by the wave, figured he was going to die so he'd surf the best wave he'd ever had, and then after a radical ride, was deposited safely on shore about a quarter mile in. That's when I saw the metaphor that this era is like riding a hundred foot tsunami. We need to keep our balance, know when to shift direction, know when to pull up or lean forward, and we might just get a great ride through this very "tsunami-ish" period in history.
Though I couldn't find the video of the original ride I saw years ago, I did check out the recent 100 ft ride, and also found this beautiful ride from a few years ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdFBtHU-SmU
Obviously they were both done with stable cameras perfectly positioned, or we would not have gotten such great footage.
Hi JP - The cycle returns to "normal" beginning with the August 2013 New Moon.

Jupiter through taurus was in my 7th house, while pluto in early cap was in final degrees of 2nd house and wiped almost everything material and relational from my life, nothing and no one, not even a place to live which meant i was unable to give service that I had trained so hard to as I worked from home and have been unable to find a society approved job yet either ,however because of the training i have done since age 8 to figure out what i was saying at that time, i saw that everything had been built on false beliefs that I was trained to believe as a youngster, not at all in accordance to how i saw the world at all and it all needed to go,which i did humbly with love as I recognised the freedom given by Jupiter to walk my talk and build a new life in accordance with my being and doing, so have been very grateful whilst actively being patient.
This new moon is opposing natal Uranus in 10th house, venus is conjunct 4th house POF thus opposing natal Divine Mother and there are signs that my adult children who have been through as much if not more than I are moving forward on their own, knowing they have my love and support no matter what, which fills me with joy to the point of tears. Uranus is sextile natal jup and jup is building trine from 8th house at 3' orb to my natal moon and I have to say I am feeling a quiet optimism and at ease with hope even though not really anything to show others as to why yet, I am seeing quite clearly little glimmers or miracles, so that light at the end of the tunnel is breaking through finally.
am having lots of folk suggesting they would like me for public speaking engagements again, which has been missing and I felt I had been silenced also since May 2011.
It has been a huge struggle at times to keep going as I am sure many here can relate, one feels like they have worked so hard and done ones best not to hurt any other living thing or persona yet everything just kept looking to be further and further away, I am hoping that was an illusion and now it is just round the corner so I will keep breathing and deeply with the air from this new moon...
I know I go on here a bit at times, it has been appreciated for the opportunity to do so, it has helped me to have a break from the solitude and not feel
i disappeared. Thank you for your tolerance, gratitude.

Robert,
I check your website daily for inspiration. How does the Lunar Eclipse of the S. Node of Nov. 28, 2012 at 6+ Gemini figure in since this is the same degree where Jupiter went stationary direct?

Best wishes for you Debbie! (also with Pluto going through 2nd house)

A powerhouse new moon this one for me. Happened to be awake, as in physically not sleeping when it occured. Love the comments on the waves. Felt the swell and heard the ocean. Smiles to the riders on the storm.
