Tonight we have major dancing thanks to the blue eyed soul of Mister Robert Palmer!
Robert Palmer was an icon of “blue eyed Soul” whose performances were a dance groove fest! Robert Palmer (19 January 1949 – 26 September 2003) had an amazingly distinctive voice and mixed musical styles, combining soul, rock, pop, blues and jazz. His songs definitely had attitude!
His extraordinary music videos were “the talk of the town,” a visual panorama of seductive women in extreme makeup all moving to Robert’s groove! If any of you wonder where Robin Thicke gets his style and stage atmosphere, check out Robert Palmer’s music videos of “Simply Irresistible” and “Addicted to Love.” Wow!
For our Saturday Night Attitude tune, I picked one of his best. While I know there are many who are on a crusade not to be addicted to anything, I always felt that since there’s really nothing else worth living for, if we have to be addicted to something, I guess love is it!!! It certainly beats the alternatives.
For your dancing pleasure, our Saturday Night Attitude song! From 1985 on the Midnight Special, Robert live in a an extremely grinding version of “Addicted to Love”
Don’t stop dancing! From 1979, a very young Robert in a groove on the Midnight Special cranking up his first smash hit! "Bad Case of Lovin’ You (Doctor Doctor)"
Keep dancing! From 1983, a very young Robert live in Europe offering up “Sneaking Sally Through the Alley”
Also from 1979, Robert looking sharp keeping us in a dance groove! “Bad Case of Lovin’ You (Doctor, Doctor)”
From 1987 on the AMA, Robert live offering up the danceable funk tune "I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On”
From Letterman in 1988, a very live, very electrifying performance of “Simply Irresistible”
From his time fronting Power Station, here’s a 1988 concert with Robert and Power Station performing “Some Like It Hot”
Let’s take our first break with an early live performance on television of the very mellow “Riptide”
From 1991, live on the Arsenio Hall Television Show, 11+ minutes of Robert doing a great performance of Marvin Gaye’s biggest hit, “Mercy Mercy Me” (followed by “I Want You”)
In the same easy groove, from the Midnight Special in 1978, Robert live and very smoooooth! “Every Kind of People”
Back to dancing after one more tune! From 1986 in Tokyo, a live performance of “Riptide” and from the same gig, the very funky “You Are in my System”
From Danish TV in 1995, Robert Palmer in a live performance of our Saturday Night Attitude tune, “Addicted To Love” along with the Soul standard by the Staple Singers, “Respect Yourself”
Here’s the original music video! Quite mythical, quite atypical, simply irresistible! "Simply Irresistible”
From his VH1 performance with the Max Weinberg 7, here’s Robert live belting out his smash hit “Simply Irresistible”
We’ll close this dance with the song that brought us to the party! Here’s an utterly fantastic April 1997 performance by Robert and the Max Weinberg 7 on the Hard Rock Love Special performing “Addicted to Love”
And if you just can’t get enough from this blue eyed Soul Brother, I found an 8 part radio broadcast of his 1986 gig at San Diego State University! The set list is great!! Robert Palmer live at SDSU – interview and show
You’re still one of the classiest blue eyed Soul brothers ever to strut the stage! Robin Thicke, you owe everything to Robert Palmer, Da Man who set the standard!
