This stabilizing, freeing, liberating, challenging Full Moon is helping us see the light of a greater freedom to be ourselves in social situations, and leading us to a broader synthesized view and a greater ability to manage some situation that may threaten to get out of control.
The Lunation occurs at 11:09 am PDT, 2:09 EDT, and 7:09 pm BST. It falls at the 19th degree of Leo and Aquarius, showing the Light of the Heart expressed as the broader world ideal symbolized by Aquarius. This one indicates a lot of ego assumptions will crash, with new laws being shown at the end of the end, as well as the need for clear visualization and knowing what must be defended or protected due to forces that are out of our control.
This combination of energies will lead to great opportunities, protection, or abundance during the time Jupiter transits the Solar point a few weeks from now. We’ve pretty much passed the heart of the gear grinding conflict in play most of the first half of this year, and now can rest easy and let go of old rigidity.
Today’s Full Moon post covers various rising signs around the globe and an overview of the Lunation and some of its primary qualities. In parts 2 and 3 we’ll cover Sabian Symbols, aspects, distributions, and patterns.
So What's Happening Where?
Now we take a look at the rising signs around the world. The Lunation finds 20 Libra rising in Santa Monica, 14 Libra in Vancouver, 18 Scorpio in Toronto, 21 Scorpio in Montreal, and 22 Scorpio in Washington DC, showing (from west to east) mid-Libra through late Scorpio as the rising signs across North America.
Continuing east, we find 17 Capricorn rising in Rio, 22 Capricorn in Lisbon, 19 Capricorn in London, 7 Aquarius in Berlin, 4 Pisces in Sofia, 21 Pisces in Johannesburg, and 27 Pisces in Moscow. That means the span of Ascendants across Europe and Africa is between mid-Capricorn and late Pisces.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find the Ascendants to be 20 Taurus in Abbottabad, 22 Taurus in New Delhi, 14 Taurus in Trivandrum, 8 Gemini in Jakarta (11 Aug), 27 Gemini in Hong Kong, 26 Cancer in Tokyo, 6 Gemini in Perth, 27 Gemini in Melbourne, 11 Cancer in Brisbane, 25 Cancer in Wellington, and 17 Virgo rising on Maui.
So you can construct a rough chart for where you are in the world, I’ll give you the rounded up degree for each planet. Use the Ascendants given above to get a rough sense of what’s on the eastern horizon where you are, and using an Equal House system, you can see what’s going on in your part of the world for the next 2 weeks.
In this Full Moon with the Sun at 19 Leo and the Moon at 19 Aquarius, Mercury is 21 Leo, Venus is 29 Cancer, Mars is 9 Scorpio, Jupiter is 6 Leo, Saturn is 17 Scorpio (same degree as its direct station), Uranus is 17 Aries (same degree as its retrograde station), Neptune is 7 Pisces retrograde, Pluto is 12 Capricorn retrograde, TransPluto is 1 Virgo, Chiron is 17 Pisces retrograde, and the NN is 22 Libra.
Those around the world who will definitely feel effects of this Full Moon are the places where it falls near the angles of the chart. Places on our list where the Lunation is near the angles and activating energies powerfully are (Sun/Moon): Toronto, Montreal, and Washington DC (MC/IC), Lisbon, London, Berlin, and Sofia (Dsc/Asc), Abbottabad, New Delhi, and Trivandrum, (IC/MC), and Tokyo and Wellington (Asc/Dsc).
Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out the recent New Moon articles The New Moon in Leo Pt. 1 – What’s Happening in August 2014, and The New Moon in Leo Pt. 2 - Signs, Sabian Symbols, and What It All Means. You will recall these weeks have been about radical transformation, turning points, sacrifices, corrections, and another blast of the Cardinal T-square that’s been pushing things forward off and on for 4 years. We’ve had chances to understand success might not look like we thought, and have had to show balance and humor as we’ve moved through conflict.
An overview of this period ruled by this Full Moon shows it will illuminate our ability to step out of old inhibitions and express ourselves more easily and creatively, where we will find a way to manage situations that threaten to blow up and out of control. This is a creative-expressive Full Moon that is stabilizing, inspired, and clarifying, with the Grand Irrationality front and center with the need to admire differences rather than get into confrontations.
There are no frictional aspects to speak of in this chart, showing minimum friction over the next two weeks. However, the big stars are Jupiter and Saturn, as they are involved in the most important and powerful aspects in play these next two weeks. I’ll discuss more about that in parts 2 and 3.
This is a Lunation that will show turning points in everyone’s destiny to a greater or lesser degree. While the friction is mainly in the past, we still have a very powerful set of irrational factors at work, along with the hard adjustments and sacrifices indicated by Jupiter quincunx Neptune. Something’s got to give in the collective atmosphere, since confrontations threaten to spin out of control.
With the Moon in Aquarius, find a view that helps you rally all you’ve got to address something that has gotten inflamed. It’s on a degree where we have to rise to some urgent task, and makes an aspect to Venus that indicates great spiritual help is ours if we can wait in the right way, and find a new understanding of past events and weigh alternatives as we stand on the threshold of a new cycle of life.
Saturn continues to show the way within to power and a self-reliant cooperation between the material and spiritual energies in our lives, and many will begin to see a long term way of fulfilling their individual destiny. Purification leads to creative mutations, which in turn will open a renewal at the threshold of a new way of life.
Is the Grand Irrationality A Factor in this Full Moon?
As I noted earlier, the Grand Irrationality is triggered in a major way this month, due to Jupiter triseptile Pluto. You can find more about this long term configuration at Astrology in November-December 2013 - The Grand Irrationality Affecting Everyone and Astrology in late November and Early December 2013 – In the Heart of the Grand Irrationality. At the present time, the current seven “hot zone” spans are approximately 5-9 Leo, 26-30 Virgo, 17-21 Scorpio, 9-13 Capricorn, 1-5 Pisces, 22-26 Aries, and 14-18 Gemini.
As I’ve noted previously, Neptune is too wide to be in septile to Pluto at this time, which is the main aspect anchoring the Grand Irrationality. Right now Neptune is 55 degrees and 26 minutes away from Pluto, which is a little too wide an orb to be in septile.
As I explained in a recent article, that just means that in the Autumn and Winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) they are close to exact, and operate as a simultaneous “pulse,” since they’re both aspected near the same time. But in the Spring and Summer we’ll experience it as a rolling influence, with first Pluto aspected, and then Neptune at some time after that, depending on which planet is doing the aspect to these planets.
So while the Grand Irrationality continues to be a general influence, it’s not as strong now as it will be in the Autumn and Winter, especially in the near future when Saturn re-enters the Scorpio zone. We’re feeling the first influence right now, since Saturn is septile Pluto and Jupiter is triseptile Pluto, even though neither aspects Neptune.
However, the Grand Irrationality will be in full force for several weeks not far from now. Jupiter will triseptile Neptune the last week of August and first week of September while quincunxing Pluto, and Saturn will septile Pluto from late August through mid-October and biseptile Neptune all of October.
A point of critical focus will be in late August and early September when Mercury is in the late Virgo zone and Mars is in the Scorpio zone, since the Moon will also trigger things as it transits the Virgo, Scorpio, and Capricorn zones. Expect a wild ride, with important events playing out on the world stage as well as in the lives of all of us with planets in any of the 7 hot zones.
This Lunation brings us a mixed bag of aspects. There are relatively few frictional aspects, with only Jupiter quincunx Neptune and Uranus square Pluto being noteworthy. Besides aspects previously mentioned, we have a strong Venus tredecile Saturn, biseptile Uranus, and biquintile Neptune, and Mars conjunct Saturn and sextile Pluto. These should bring unique interactive gifts and circumstances, interesting forks in the road in relationships that are on a threshold, and a concentration that should lead to productive accomplishment. Much that has been on old will move forward, while other things that have been moving forward may have to be put on hold for a while so that some repair work can be done.
We’ve now left the Mars in Libra era and are moving through the Mars in Scorpio period. We’ve all gotten recalibrated since January, and had many opportunities to show balance, justice, moderation, and peace making skills. We’ve all learned about what’s fair and what isn’t, and had to move through some extreme conditions as we’ve applied the emotional intelligence we learned between June 2013 and early July 2014.
Over the past 8 months we’ve finished paying karmic dues, repaired what can be repaired, learned to keep a sense of balance and proportion when things could not be repaired, and finished various type of “reconstruction.” Because Mars transited the section of Libra where Saturn was in 2011-2012, we found ways of using Mars to apply those lessons and “rules” we learned from Saturn, whether through a discipline or duty or responsibility, that we were dealing with in late 2011 through August 2012.
We all began to learn how to overcome fear in the Spring of 2012, and then entered an unknown space time sector where we’ve been learning to see much of life as being a “science experiment,” with a need to understand the laws that underlie what’s going on. We’re now able to use that knowledge to get a new perspective on what has affected us in the past, and can let go of nonessentials as we claim the enduring patterns and symbols of “the movie of our life.”
I’ll write more about these things in parts 2 and 3. The next two weeks will bring lessons in getting and staying clear as we navigate some strange forks in the road. Some will have to do things they’ve been putting off for a while, while others have to cool it for a while so that some things can come forth later on, probably around early October when Jupiter crosses the solar position in this Full Moon.
We’re now solidly in the Jupiter in Leo era! This is the beginning of a new adventure in self-expression, so face forward and move on up and out! We’re now done with the Jupiter in Cancer year, where family and personal feelings have run strong. We’ve all had opportunities to get clear about what we feel nurtures our growth in some personal way.
We’ve all gone deeper into how we experience everything, and the past 9 months we’ve been given a new look at how we measure success, and figuring out how to “put on the show” and receive what we need from our audience. We’ve now graduated from the “School of Emotional Intelligence,” found new allegiances, and integrated our personalities to some degree. It's time to be very clear about things, and show our stuff in creative, playful, and spontaneous ways!
Is the Sun Following the Moon, or the Moon Following the Sun?
This is the thirteenth Full Moon where the Sun falls in the same sign to the Sun at the previous New Moon. We’re now back to the “normal” pattern we last experienced between September 2010 and June 2012. We’re now done with the “reversed pattern” we dealt with between June 2012 and August 2013, where the Full Moon Sun was in a different sign than the previous New Moon.
As I've explained in previous Full Moon articles,
... the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepares the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of Lunations works the opposite way....
Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way Lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon....
So Sept 2010 through May 2012 we had the New Moon Sun in the same sign as the subsequent Full Moon Sun every month. This shifted in June 2012, when we had a New Moon at 1 Gemini in late May, a Full Moon at 15 Gemini-Sag in early June, and another New Moon at 29 Gemini in late June. That began the sequence of the New Moon Sun at the end of one sign, with the following Full Moon Sun in the next sign.
So June 2012 began the reversed experience from the “normal” New Moon-Full Moon cycle. We had an illuminated form shown to us at the Full Moon, followed by the Sun being in the same sign as the previous Full Moon. This is fulfillment followed by similar Solar seeds of potential while reversing the natural process.
That ended in August 2013, and we’re again in a sequence where the Full Moon Sun is the same sign as the previous New Moon Sun. To illustrate, the January 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Capricorn, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Aquarius. The February 10, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Aquarius, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 8 Pisces.
Continuing through the Spring, the March 11, 2013 New Moon Sun was at 22 Pisces, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 7 Aries. The April 10 New Moon Sun was at 21 Aries, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 6 Taurus. The May 9 New Moon Solar Eclipse was at 20 Taurus, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 5 Gemini. The June 8 New Moon was at 19 Gemini, while the next Full Moon Sun was at 3 Cancer.
This “reversed Sun sign” phenomenon ended then. In August 2013 we had a New Moon Sun at 15 Leo on August 6-7, and then the Full Moon Sun at 29 Leo. In September we had a New Moon Sun at 14 Virgo, and then we had a Full Moon Sun at 27 Virgo. In October we had a New Moon Sun at 12 Libra, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Libra.
In November, we had a New Moon Solar Eclipse Sun at 12 Scorpio, and then a Full Moon Sun at 26 Scorpio. In December, we had a New Moon at 11 Sagittarius, and then a Full Moon at 26 Sagittarius. In January 2014, we had a New Moon at 11 Capricorn, and a Full Moon Sun at 26 Capricorn.
The New Moon of late January had the Sun at 11 Aquarius, while the Full Moon Sun was at 27 Aquarius. The New Moon in late February/early March had the Sun at 11 Pisces, and Full Moon Sun is at 27 Pisces. The New Moon in late March had the Sun at 10 Aries, and the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse had the Sun at 26 Aries.
The recent New Moon Solar Eclipse in late April had the Sun at 9 Taurus, while the Sun at the Wesak Full Moon was 24 Taurus. The New Moon Sun was 8 Gemini, and the Full Moon Sun is at 23 Gemini. The New Moon Sun at 6 Cancer was followed by the this Full Moon Sun is at 21 Cancer. The New Moon two weeks ago was at 4 Leo, and this Full Moon Sun is at 19 Leo. So this continues the pattern of the “natural” order of Lunation Suns, offering us seeds shown in the first half, fulfillment in the second half.
The next two weeks require being very clear about what is ego and what is truly spiritual, letting go of old social rigidities and finding ways to rise to occasions that test us and prove our strength, resilience, and indomitability. Watch out for those who are pushing what should not be pushed, or who are trying to prop up something that is bound to collapse. The ego “flapping its wings” is a clear sign that something’s about to crash.
And of course, keep withdrawing with dignity from people and circumstances that are just wasting your time. Here a little adaptation can yield some interesting serendipity!
In parts two and three, we will explore the Sabian Symbols, aspects, and other important chart factors.
