As you know, this site is usually about astrology or metaphysics. However, there's something so important that I must post it here. In the global outpouring to assist those who suffer in Kashmir and its neighbors, the recent Guatemalan mass disaster has almost been completely overlooked in the news. This post comes from a friend who is coordinating part of the disaster response to Guatemala. Please read what's going on, and give all you can to help our southern neighbors.
We’ve received news today from Mayan families with whom we work that the situation in the hurricane-stricken highlands of Guatemala is getting worse by the minute. Many communities now isolated because of washed out roads and bridges are running out of food and water supplies. The death count is estimated to reach 2000 and is likely to rise higher as the health conditions worsen. Although there are efforts to transport supplies to affected communities, the hurricane’s impact covered such a wide area and large number of rural communities, the need for relief is far greater than the supply. To make matters worse, the Katrina experience is repeating itself in highland Guatemala, as government agencies have been slow to provide much needed relief to victims.
Moonflower Enterprises is responding to this urgent need for relief assistance in Guatemala by releasing this alert and emergency request for donations to provide food, water and clothing for hurricane victims in the Sololá province of Guatemala. All donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt.
Please make your online donation at Moonflower Enterprises or make a check payable to Moonflower Enterprises (write "Hurricane Stan Emergency Fund" on memo-line) and mail to:
Moonflower Enterprises, P.O. Box 1161 Airway Heights, WA 99001. You can also call (877) 892-3193 or email us at [email protected]
On behalf of Mayan families who are in need, we thank you profoundly from our heart for your support.
Here's a link to other relief orgs doing what needs to be done for Guatemala.
Thank you so very much Robert for posting this information on the Aquariuspapers.com site. On behalf of all our Mayan brothers and sisters that are suffering, we are profoundly grateful if one person or a hundred respond to our plea to support hurricane victims.
This is a good time for all those who value and appreciate the Maya for all their contributions to this planet over the centuries, i.e. Tzolkin calendar, astronomy, weaving arts, profound humility, to give something back, in this time of need.
Mil gracias,
Felipe Gonzales

Here's a link to your post at Political Physics of the list of relief orgs doing what they can for Guatemala. I hope the people get as much help as they can as quickly as they can.

Two questions: One, for those of us that deal in cash- are mail-in money orders ok?; Two, is there a direct mailing address for sending actual goods/food, and if so would it get there quickly?
Don.

This particular part of the effort is being coordinated by my old friend Felipe, who is in Guatemala as we speak taking an inventory of what's up down there. He should be back soon, and probably will post an update over at Political Physics. You can donate through his org Moonflower and he'll make sure it gets to where it needs to go. As for goods, it may be more trouble getting them there than it's worth, but he'd know first hand what is most needed down there and where. Thanks for your interest.

Don:
Thanks for your interest in supporting our Mayan brothers and sisters in Guatemala. Yes, you can send a money order to:
Moonflower Enterprises
PO Box 1161
Airway Heights, WA

Please note that it's for the Hurricane Stan fund.
I'm returning to USA this Sunday. I plan to provide an update on the situation in Guatemala soon after getting back. Things are starting to get back to normal but people are still suffering from their tremendous losses.
Paz,
Felipe

(Original comment deleted by Professor Robert) Because there are still spammers dumb enough to think that merely because I'm on the road I can't delete junk comments.
