Every so often I take a break from astrology to post about something extraordinary I have found in my travels. While in the Hamptons last week, I ate at a restaurant where the food and the jazz were equally great. Estia Cantina has amazing gourmet Mexican food that already has me looking forward to the next time I'm out here, and while my dining experience was excellent, it was topped by the jazz group playing that night. Matt Shulman and his sidemen play some of the most far out appealing jazz I've heard.
These guys have an amazing sound for a trio of trumpet, bass, and drums, with a tight rhythm section backing surrealistic horn playing. Using a combination of foot pedals, the sound of a trumpet blended with a voice can create some very strange effects, and when the horn is being played pedal to the metal, you've got a sound you have to hear to believe, like Miles Davis meets the Doors. If you can ever check out Matt Shulman, Jason Wildman, and Matt Clohesy do so, since these guys have the ability to take you on a journey that will leave you with an unforgettable experience. Check out the website at mattshulman.com and look for their CD on Jaggo Records.
I said "yes" to take a listen- the sound is "fragile," and that inventive kind of...Peter Framptin thing he does with the trumpet took me on a journey "over the hills and far away"!! Not to sound too much like a "monk" that standing in judgement as a know it all- but I'd love to here some electrified cello in there.
These guys bang-on!! Some real talent there. Rrraaeerr, meow, pprrrthth. Do do dewt tah, do do, oh man that horn mianders real niceley...he has that old bassy voice too, great now I'm hooked. These guys got some'tin!!
Thanks- Music and laughter in the morning! Good way to head my day off.
Thank your brothers,
Don.

Owning a Jazz Club is no easy task, but having guys like Matt Shulman, Matt Clohesy, and Jason Wildman makes it a little easier, and a lot more fun. This is an incredibly tight trio! Jason keeps it sweet and excitingly smooth on the drums, Matt Clohsey maintains a rich foundation on the Bass, and Matt Shulman takes the whole thing places you never thought you'ld go, and you're delighted you went. Matt Shulman is a triple threat on the trumpet! Not only does he have chops better than anyone I've seen or even heard of, his compositions are beyond unique and intreguing, they are joyous to listen to. AND, his wild interpretations of the standards are the kind that bring new meaning to old favs.
The crowd that enjoyed the show at my club ranged in age from 85-18. Every one of them wants these guys back. Believe me, I will.

It's pretty amazing the things men can achieve when they combine their gifts to create things- I think that applies universally.
Again- they have got something.
Good luck with your Club, John.
Thanks again for the listen Robert,
Don.

Hi Don - If you ever get to see them live, you'll be blown away. Even the CD doesn't do justice to the weird and wonderful experience of having that amazing horn blasting in your face.
Hi again John - I told you I was so impressed with the club I'd post something. You have great food and great music. Hang in there, give your chef my highest regards from a BIG fan, and may your club see more fantastic days than ever before!
