Today we take a new look at an important element in understanding why people appear and disappear in our lives. Besides the obvious "real world" factors, there is an astrological component to this known as "planets are people." Each of the planets in our chart represents one or more people at any given moment. That's why when we evolve, some people disappear while others appear. The progressions and transits are very important in marking who goes and who comes, and when.
Since planets symbolize forces both inside us and outside us, it is easy to see how our planets resonate with some people and not others. That's the basis for compatibility charts. But they also represent energy fields that we carry with us that work out through people and interactions in our world. Our Jupiter shifts may or may not mean a Sag or Pisces will appear or disappear, since Jupiter could very well just be a person with Jupiter prominent in their charts. However, you can bet that when an Aries or Scorpio enters or leaves our life, it does have something to do with Mars, regardless of any other planetary energy they may represent.
You can find out even more about this business of planets representing people by going to the article Explaining How Astrology Works - Planets Are People in Your Chart. Then reconsider who you know and what planet(s) they could represent in your makeup. Enjoy!

i'm a jupiter person (its in my first house). I've recently had an Aries person disappear and a Pisces person step into my life.

Interesting theory. Lately the Sun has been drowning everything else out.

Hi robyn - Then probably your Mars and/or Aries sector are undergoing dynamic change, and your Jupiter and/or Pisces sector already prepared to welcome the guest.
Hi Damien - Well, yes, sometimes one or more planetary influences dominate our personal landscape. Just make sure your Solar influences don't create a desert, and instead admire the beautiful garden growing thanks to light energy.

Hey Robert -
This is interesting. As I told you when we met up, I recently started a new job. What I didn't tell you is that among my immediate peers, most are of "yin" orientation: 1 Cancer, 1 Virgo, 1 Capricorn and 2 Pisces (the Cancer and Capricorn suns square mine)... only one other yang-oriented person to stoke my Aries fire: an Aquarius (possible sextile to my sun). I've been pondering some "greater meaning" in this. I may now be able to begin to formulate an answer.
Thanks!
- Matt
PS - my new roommate is a Leo!

Funny enough I have had two Aries individuals come in and out of my life, at different times for different reasons, one from my youth and one from my early-mid adult years. Both moved along for years, but each had moved back into my life in my later adult years at varying times. The latter has recently sought me out again (yea! internet) and this time it may be a permanent thing. Having mainly only ever had fire signs in my (love) life, this part of the Aries spirit has always intrigued me (Virgo sun) but doesn't disturb me (Leo asc/Sag moon).
Particularly intriguing has been their popping up when I've least expected it, but absolutely needed it though not conscious of it. Oh, the vibrations we send!
Interesting article, Robert...

Hi Robert,
Liked this article. Though this is not pertained to the topic you have written, this doubt has always been in my mind and wanted to ask you for some clarification. Why don't we concentrate much on moon sign readings when we read/predict/assume things for Sun sign and rising sign ? In Indian astrology, astrologers mostly do the horoscope matches based on moon signs. When is moon sign significant for predictions ?
Thank you !!!!

Robert,
I absolutely love your wisdom, and your views on our human evolution during our short time here on earth. Very insightful. I have to admit, I am fairly "young" in my learnings of astrology; but,I am learning more and more everyday. This article intrigued me because I have all Virgo daughters, and the last three men in my life have been Virgo men. Their father was a Virgo rising. The first two were light relationships, but the last one was/is very intense in many ways. So, according to your article Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus are transformational planets in relationships. I have Uranus 12 degrees Virgo 4th, Pluto 14 degrees Virgo 5th, Neptune 17 degrees Scorpio 6th. The Virgo male has Uranus 5 degrees Virgo, Pluto 11 degrees Virgo, and Neptune 13 degrees Scorpio. I don't know his house placement because I do not know his time of birth. Sounds significant in a transformational way. Thoughts?

Hi Matt - Glad this helps things fit into place. And Aries usually do well with Leos, as long as it doesn't get too fiery! ;-)
Hi Robyn - Yes, once we learn the lesson the other usually disappears and is replaced by some other one who exemplifies that planet, or someone else who symbolizes a different planetary lesson to be learned. Passing the test is great, in that we lessen the number of problematic relationships that come in the future, and can actually think and feel with greater genuineness.
Hi BritLitChik - Some symbolize lessons of the times, others the progressed lessons, while others are natal lessons. When the recurrences happen is useful to see what planets are triggering which other planets. And of course, through those who come and stay we can learn great happiness.
Hi SB - Lunar astrology fell out of fashion with the Babylonians and Greeks, who believed that the Sun symbolized the source and therefore our center. Sun sign astrology became very popular about 100 years ago, and it's been that way ever since. While there are many useful elements of Lunar astrology, it still supposes that we base our lives on being an aggregate of habits and feelings left over from the past rather than living lights in the NOW. I use Lunar evaluation techniques if I want to know some things about a person's habits and fluxes, but tend to go for more a larger view of other factors besides just the Sun and Moon. And of course, the study of lunar return charts can yield very valuable insights.
Hi Marie - The ruling planets of Aries are Pluto in the spiritual realm, Mars in the worldly realm. Same with Scorpio.
Hi Cheryll - Thanks for your kind words. The outer triad are Transpersonal planets, and really don't work on personal levels, though the effects are usually personal on a widespread level. These planets are the lessons of entire generations rather than specific circumstances. Mostly marriages are ruled by the 7th house, love affairs by the 5th, children by the 5th, 7th, 9th, etc., depending on the number and birth order. In your case, anyone with Virgo anything will stimulate your Virgo energies, which in your chart are transformative. And of course, you will also impact others depending on the specific contacts.

Thanks for the details, Robert.

Robert,
Could a conjunction between one's natal chart to the progressed horoscope signify what sort of individual will come into the life as well? Would this be more permanent or longer lasting?
Thanks!
Posted by: Amy | October 29, 2008 at 08:40 PM
Hi Amy - Yes, though progressions always make aspects to the natal, not vise versa. It could be either permanent, long lasting, or even relatively brief depending on which progressed planets are making the contacts. Transits also play their part here.

Robert,
What would your take be on P Venus conjunct sun? Would this be brief because it's not an outer planet making the aspect?
Thank you very much :)
Posted by: Amy | October 30, 2008 at 08:31 PM
Hi Amy - No, it's a years' long influence that is exact for the year before and year after the exact conjunction. During that time it's repeatedly set into motion by transits.
