The New Moon falls at 8:54 am PST (4:54 pm GMT) today, November 27, at 6 degrees of Sagittarius. This New Moon is part of a stellium that includes Mercury at 7 Sag and Mars at 9 Sagittarius, promising a host of new beginnings and initiatives that are future oriented, enlivening, opening our growth in ways that if we can utilize ambition in practical ways, we'll be rewarded for our courage in extraordinary circumstances.
This is yet another New Moon that falls within the span of the Bowl configuration created by Saturn in Virgo at the leading edge and Uranus in Pisces at the closing point. Since this is a conjunction that includes Mercury and Mars, it shows a fusion and opening wherever early Sag falls in our charts that will show in our lives through house areas ruled by Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Scorpio. Obviously this begins a span of influence that also impacts any planets we have in these signs.
This lunation also features Venus conjunct Jupiter, significant since Jupiter is the ruler of the New Moon. This fuses areas ruled by Taurus, Libra, Sagittarius, and Pisces in our charts wherever this mid-Capricorn conjunction falls. And of course, we still have the major league conjunction of North Node at 12 Aquarius, Chiron at 17 Aquarius, and Neptune at 22 Aquarius. This many conjunctions will show as very strong yet distinct areas of activity wherever Sag, Capricorn, and Aquarius fall in our charts.
The foreground of the upcoming month is about learning how to "play the game," with an eye to fairness and being a good sport. We'll be socializing our instincts to build solidarity with others, and need to find ways to capitalize on our skills. There is much happiness waiting for those who hear the call of a new form of love, with the need to act in some way that shows caring for another, courage in taking inner guidance in growth situations, and being conscious if we must advance to a higher or different plane of doing our being.
Jupiter, ruler of the New Moon stellium, is on a degree of surrender, an "apparent defeat that spells real spiritual victory." By finding inner strength, we can turn a setback into a long term power through perseverance and conforming to some established norm. This may be a triumph through some retreat, which will prove very important as the other planets cross this potent degree, since it's the stationary direct degree of Mercury in late January after its retrograde period.
The Venus-Jupiter conjunction is harmonizing the ongoing polarization and tension indicated by Saturn opposition Uranus, throwing the productive void into Cancer. This favors domestic activies, family activities, and taking care of ourselves. Be simple and practical in your concerns about self nurture, allow new blood to infuse whatever is established in your life, create festivity in some socially appropriate form, remember that this is a time of climax in realizing certain life ambitions, and examine how you want to live life as a larger adventure where your desires and thoughtforms will be fulfilled.
As usual, the Grand Irrationality continues to infuse everything, even though Saturn is no longer within its septile series orb to Neptune or Pluto. Other aspects of note besides the very harmonious sextiles and trines made from Venus and Jupiter to the planets defining the Bowl are a powerful quintile from the Sun, Moon, and Mercury to Saturn and these three with Mars all quintile Neptune. These multiple quintiles will produce some very specialized and unique circumstances and gifts where they fall in our chart.
There will also be some fairly hard adjustments and sacrifices as shown by Saturn quincunx Neptune, opening growth through generating power in some cooperative way that generates optimism as well as demonstrates the fulfillment of a type of ambition, recognition, and opens the new adventure mentioned two paragraphs up.
Extreme edginess and major irrationality and/or obsessive compulsive behavior are shown by the waning biseptiles made from Sun, Moon, and Mercury to Uranus. Some deeper wisdom and higher truths can come forth here through the liberation "forks in the road" indicated by this configuration. This primarily affects planets occupying 9-12 Taurus, 30 Gemini-3 Cancer, 21-24 Leo, 13-16 Libra, 5-8 Sagittarius, 25-28 Capricorn, and 18-21 Pisces.
Venus and Jupiter will both cross the Capricorn span very soon, followed by Mercury, Sun, and then Mars. Thus this New Moon shows the shapes of choices and changes that can help individuate us, teach us a deeper compassionate wisdom, say goodbye to old ways that obstruct our uniqueness, and free us to experience a new type of love.
The North Node clearly indicates we need to observe various levels of awareness in self and others, and divorce the past. Keep showing appreciation and gratitude, keep healing yourselves through following your deepest and broadest compassionate idealism, and know that with Pluto now at 1 Capricorn, the world has indeed launched a new chapter in its evolution.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Interesting article. Thanks, Robert. It's almost exactly conjunct my Mars and MC. I'll keep an eye on this one!

Hi AceStar - Glad you can check in so frequently. I hope that some of what I write can help you become your potential, which is considerable.
Hi Sue - Well, I figure since New and Full Moons seem to be of great concern to so many, maybe I should try to write a little about each as they show up. It turns out I'm not coming your way this month due to an avalanche of events. Maybe January if I can swing it.
Hi reefaroundme - New Moon conjunct your Mars/MC should create some powerful public movement, or at least a flowering of whatever areas Mars rules in your chart.

Attractive New Moon.
Is it of relevance that the degree of this New Moon makes a trine -exact- with the center of my Leo stellium?. And...which span of time does it cover, until the next New Moon?. Or it heralds something larger?. I suppose it's only a 2-week lunar tide, as the Moon is still the Moon.
By the way, I'm expecting what's up with that Grand Cross for next Full Moon...
And if you let me ask this, I don't grasp what a Full Moon in 8th is about -in the larger view, obviously, I know there are thousands of possible facts-.
Thanks for the article.

Hi Robert,
I had the priviledge of seeing the beautiful conjunction of crescent Moon, Venus and Jupiter in Capricorn at dusk last night! It was stunning. Earlier the forecast was for clouds and rain but it cleared up just for me. I hope you had a chance to see it also. I don't know what it portends for me- it's my 12th house, my north node is there, and Uranus exactly opposite. But it sure was exciting to see!! Namaste... :)

I too saw the joining of Moon, Venus and Jupiter in the evening sky. How fast the planets travel away from the moon. I'm wondering were Saturn is at this time. Is it visible, and at what time?
Posted by: stone crow | December 05, 2008 at 08:33 AM
Hi Stone Crow - Saturn is visible in the eastern sky from about 1 am to about 6 am in the northern hemisphere. The last few days of December in the western sky at sunset we'll first see Moon conjunct Mercury and Jupiter with Venus above them, then Mercury conjunct Jupiter with Moon conjunct Venus a few days later, which should be spectacular. Late December is quite a sunset light show for those with clear skies.

Thankyou so much for the wisdom of your new moon in sagg piece Robert and for the guidance and pointers therein to self-reorientation. I am currently finding it particularly ellucidating and supportive as this new sagg moon conjoins my own sagg moon, and is setting off a vibrant and powerful chain of events which are leading to me moving home in early Jan, please goddess. I hope new sagg moon is also bringing you many fruits for your labours.
with blessings,
mary
