Following up on the general meaning and function of the "Inferior conjunction" between the Sun and Mercury, today we explore specifics of the Aquarius Inferior conjunction of January 20-21, 2009 falling at the first degree of Aquarius.
The inferior conjunction is when Mercury (mind) conjuncts the Sun (life) while retrograde, indicating that signals, messages, and ideas from either outer sources or subconscious sources will fuse with the life principle, setting the tone for the lessons involving how our minds are relating to our lives during the next four months. Since Mercury is retrograde, the degree of the inferior conjunction shows how our lives will merge with our perceptions and bring forth a new understanding of our light.
This degree is said to be "An Old Adobe Mission in California" symbolizing a newer, wider view of our ability to make a larger contribution to others. It is a degree of action where we join with a community to build something that could be a Spiritual touchstone for others across time. A degree of "Recognition of established values," we are told that we can master our environment "while becoming an integral part of it."
A degree of "The Concretization of an Ideal," Rudhyar also says this degree involves "the power inherent in all great human works to endure far beyond the workers' life spans," where we find a more spiritual or ideal vision of some social form. We also are told that we can project a "noble ideal into concrete forms of beauty and significance." Join your "cultural enterprise," and you could find yourself living your Higher Self very quickly.
Venus heralded these future developments on December 7-8. Mercury first transited this degree New Year's day. Jupiter has occupied this degree from January 5-9. The Sun will vitalize these energies on January 19-20. Mars will activate them February 4-5. Mercury will make its final passage over this degree on February 14-15. These are all action beats in a long wave process that will develop over the next few months.
This is the second step in a two-conjunction process. The first step is when Mercury conjuncts the Sun in forward motion after its retrograde period. As Mercury is faster than the Sun, after this Mind again outraces Life, and explores ideas and perceptions of experiences yet to occur.
Then Mercury goes stationary retrograde, and moves into the second step when Mercury again conjuncts the Sun while retrograde. This is when Mind is being absorbed by Life, or Life takes on the results of subconscious or collective ideas returning to source. Eventually Life gets as far from Mind as it can, Mercury goes stationary direct, and begins to speed up preparing for the first step anew in a different part of the zodiac.
We are told that 1 Aquarius is the initial step of CONTRIBUTION on the Actional level of experience within the span of DEFENSIVENESS. Here we can find some level of synthesized understanding with the process of moving between external and internal activity, and prepare for a period of group activity to understand healthy versus unhealthy dependencies. This Inferior Conjunction of mind "looking back" into life will help us reinterpret experiences we've had which showed us how we've been awakened and initiated into a greater spiritual reality.
The fact that the Inferior Conjunction falls with the Moon at 30 Scorpio, like the Presidential Inauguration, shows that these energies will have a very strong influence on the next few months AND years. Here I will remind everyone that the Inaugural Moon is NOT void of course, but makes a close tredecile with Venus before it leaves Scorpio.
30 Scorpio is a degree of "planned release of inner pressure," and shows a need to find some traditional ways to blow out feelings and instincts in ways that are sufficiently safe for society (and us!) We must find ways to manage and express pent-up feelings within relationships that can offer us and others a "relief from tension.
Saturn, ruling the sign of the Inferior Conjunction, is at 22 Virgo favorably trined by Mars in its exaltation sign. As Mars is the dispositor of the Moon, it's very strong, and relieves the pressure of the opposition between Saturn and the Venus conjunction Uranus.
This gives a very productive and harmonizing trend for how these lessons of learning to make a larger contribution will come forth the next few months. The favorable configuration between Venus, Mars, Saturn and Uranus promises a greater effectiveness, a deeper wisdom-knowledge, an understanding of how to close out responsibilities and duties we don't need, and a clearer focus on what we really care about, or what we truly need.
The 11 days before the inferior conjunction (fusion) of mind and life is a good time to take a new look at how you can bring out your inner wisdom by adjusting to a future vision or broader perspective that's opening for you. It's also good for getting a new point of view regarding what your imagination is willing to consider and how to coordinate your life to reorganize it productively. It's great for intuitive flashes, insights into the larger collective consciousness and unconsciousness, and seeing how you're being led to see elements of your Soul you may not have recognized before now.

"Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." ~Martin Luther King, jr.
Thank you Robert for this timely inspiration on this national day of service. It behooves all of us to consider what that old adobe mission is for us in our own lives. Did you get to watch the concert yesterday? My favorite was U2 and Bono's shout out for peace. Namaskarams. dcu

Hi Robert,
Uh... since tomorrow's inferior conjunction is exactly conjunct my aascendant AND
that 30 degree Scorpio moon is conjunct my MC, what might this signify on a personal level ?
(besides the fact that I am totally jazzed up for tomorrow's transfer of power ! )

P.S. You'll be hearing from me. I am quite fine but any income is largely a case of imagination and conjecture at this point.

Hi dcu - Well, as the Bard once sang, "you're gonna have to serve somebody...." It might as well be world culture and goodwill. I missed the concert since I was working, but I'm sure HBO will be more than glad to make a future buck off of it.
Hi magenta - I would think that you're going to get new insights about why you think things about yourself that you do, and perhaps get a new way of being motivated. There may be ways of blowing the pressure out publicly, and winning by conforming to something already established. Yes, the power of 2 million diverse Beings assembled in one place to honor a nation reclaiming its Soul is a tectonic shift in politics.

Hi, Robert. Loved the radio blog. What did you think of the Oath being flubbed and then re-administered at 7:35 p.m?

Hi Anne - Apparently it doesn't matter. I checked the Constitution and the old term ends at noon, and Barack is the prez, whether he's taken the Oath or not. But he must take the Oath to assume the powers of the office.
