In part 1 we explored some basics of the coming Lunar Eclipse. So what else can we expect from this February Full Moon Eclipse? For all, exercise, group training, and the launching of a vision. For some, disappointments and the collapse of ego props, while for others, a healing into a new set of likes and relationships.
So that you may prepare, in North America the Lunar Eclipse will have 16 Capricorn in Maui, 3 Aquarius in Vancouver, 22 Aquarius rising in LA at 6:49 am PST, and 25 Aries rising in Washington DC at 9:49 am EST. We find London will have 28 Cancer rising at 2:49 pm GMT, Amsterdam has 3 Leo rising at 3:49 pm CET, Tallinn has 21 Leo rising, and Johannesburg has 17 Cancer on the Ascendant.
Moving through the afternoon into the evening, Istanbul has 14 Leo rising at 6:49 pm, and Baghdad has 24 Leo rising. Moving east, New Delhi has 21 Virgo rising while Trivandrum has 19 Virgo rising, both at 8:19 pm IST. Bangkok has 13 Libra rising at 9:49 pm, while Tokyo has 13 Scorpio ascending at 11:49 pm. In Perth, Australia, we find 10 Scorpio rising at the eclipse moment while 2 time zones later in Melbourne we find 18 Sagittarius rising at 1:49 am February 10.
Obviously places with 19-23 of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius rising will have difficulties due to the exact Saturn opposition Uranus, while those with early Aries, Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius rising should do well, despite the challenges. Early Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn will experience very dynamic changes due to the Venus square Pluto in the eclipse.
As has frequently happened the past few years, this Eclipse features a dramatic See Saw pattern, with 8 planets plus Chiron in a 90 degree span from 3 Capricorn to 6 Aries in opposition to the Moon in Leo and Saturn in Virgo. The Moon is opposed Jupiter, Sun, Chiron, and Neptune, with Saturn exactly opposite Uranus at 21 Virgo-Pisces.
The See Saw cautions us not to get marginalized or out on the periphery of things, and find a whole view to any opposition that can include both views and more. It gives an excellent ability to learn how to triangulate, as well as find ways to "draw a bigger circle" around any opposing forces that encompasses both phases of the polarization.
Saturn and Mercury are rulers of this eclipse, and are in mutual reception. This very favorable harmonizing and stabilizing factor was explained in detail in part 1 (link at the bottom of this article). Mercury offers us the chance to open our perception to the flow of invisible spiritual energies pervading our biosphere, and Saturn is helping us get educated and trained to do some form of cooperative practical group work.
We can penetrate into hidden realms of nature so we may come to a greater appreciation of life and natural processes, a lightness of understanding our Soul resources, and a self-evaluation teaching us forms of social and emotional discrimination. Just beware of those who refuse to face facts, or themselves.
The Moon opposition the Aquarius stellium has no favorable aspect to relieve the oppositional tension, but does make a sesquisquare to Venus and quincunx to Uranus. These are agitating and challenging, and the triseptile to Mercury shows this eclipse puts our Cancer areas at a critical fork in the road relative to our Gemini and Virgo energies.
Combining the Venus square Pluto with the opposition of the lights, we also see Venus semisquare the Sun and the Sun semisquare Pluto, forming a "kite" configuration based in the always-frictional Octile aspects. There will be internal crises to manage based in disappointment with others challenging us to be strong and resilient as we push through artificial "highs" and "forced inspirations" that are unsustainable. That said, it's always better to be disillusioned than illusioned, even if it is difficult to break the spell. At least then we can see and know things as they really are, rather than some ego-manufactured nonsense.
The Venus-Pluto square defines the occupied span, and will help us target and eliminate unhelpful people who are blocking or obstructing whatever process of growth we're in. Over the next few months this eclipse will result in us seeing radical new days and ways in our lives, and if we've precisely formulated our intentions and desires, we should see the concrete results of these previously held ideals.
While Pluto has no supporting aspects, Venus does. There is a very productive and favorable sextile from Venus to Mars and Jupiter, showing tremendous social productivity, and the Mars conjunct Jupiter shows healing energies that will help us launch some vision over the next few months.
Of course, as with all Solar and Lunar Eclipses at this time in history, Neptune and Pluto continue to exert a powerful influence as "The Grand Irrationality." More on that years-long ongoing configuration in the article "Spiritual Astrology in January-February 2009 Pt. 3 - The Grand Irrationality and When It Will Be Set Into Motion."
Pluto leads the occupied pattern. This shows we must demonstrate economy of energy and embrace larger purification practices to organize how our Soul embodies its truth in practical activities. This will bring forth seeds of new experiences, new duties, and new authorship in public ways over the next 3 months as indicated by the eclipse duration.
Through the very favorable trine of Mercury to Saturn, we'll find solid understandings in all things related to Gemini, Virgo, Capricorn, and Aquarius sectors and planets. As we get clear about what is of meaning to us in our society and culture, it will result in the appearance of a form of heart's desire. Just define role, function, and imagery according to whatever you want to see come forth, and your imagination can help compel the manifestation of that desire.
The favorable sextiles from Aries to Aquarius harmonizes the Aries, Taurus, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Aquarius, and Pisces sectors and planets in our charts, so this period will be good for making new friends that can help us expand our energies along ideal lines. While there will be signs of new beginnings, it may take until after the Venus retrograde period in March and April before these new developments take more concrete shape. But by May, be ready to rock and roll!
So the primary irrational influences stem from the continued Neptune septile Pluto, along with Moon in a waning triseptile to Mercury. Wherever we have Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Capricorn active we will find ourselves at a collective "fork in the road of destiny," and will see ego efforts fail through a lack of sustainability. Stay open to the downward flow of natural energies, and you'll know inexhaustible inner resources. The Moon quincunx Uranus shows major adjustments on the way relative to life forms and habits. Exercise, and find ways to commune with others in enjoyable ways.
Since this eclipse influence only lasts through late May, you may expect significant signs and signals related to the eclipse lessons and challenges as Mars makes its conjunctions to the Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries points in the eclipse pattern and opposes the eclipse Moon and Saturn. This should bring effects to the fore fairly quickly.
In part 1 I promised I'd explain why some signs will benefit more than others. As I noted,
It is sure to affect anyone with an Ascendant or planets between 18-27 of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, as well as those with planets between 19-23 of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius. Those with an Ascendant or planets between 19-28 of Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces, and Taurus will benefit greatly over the next few months, as will those with occupied points around early Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, early and mid Cancer, early Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Sag, early to mid Capricorn, and early Aquarius.
It is obvious that those with planets in the last half of Earth or Water signs will profit by the favorable sextiles and trines made by Mercury, Saturn, and Uranus, just as people with points between 19-23 of Aries, Gemini, Libra, and Sagittarius will be favorable stimulated by the opposition between 21 Leo and Aquarius.
As for the other sectors, planets in early Aries are conjunct by Venus, and the Aries-Aquarius sextile is very favorable for points in early Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sag, and Aquarius, as well as mid-to-late Aries and Capricorn through the quintiles.
Early Taurus, early Gemini, early Scorpio and early Sagittarius are either quintile or tredecile the Lunation axis. Early Gemini, mid-Cancer, early Sagittarius and early Capricorn form the same aspects to the Saturn opposition Uranus. People with planets in these zones will find gifts, unique circumstances, and highly specialized conditions where they can discover or apply their unique qualities.
Here are some technicals for astrologers: This eclipse effect will be given a favorable boost each time the Moon moves through mid-to-late Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sag, or Aquarius. Of course, when the Moon moves through mid-to-late Taurus and Scorpio, it will create powerful releases of the Eclipse axis, just as it releases the realizations of Saturn and Uranus each time it moves through mid-to-late Gemini, Virgo, Sag, and Pisces. So in the near future, look to the transits in Pisces to note significant movement.
In Part 3 we'll explore more about the qualities of this Lunar Eclipse, which indicate that we'll definitely be planning anew somehow to find relief and release in a transfigured reality. Even if there are disappointments, we'll be able to find and demonstrate strength and determination to rise above the "vicissitudes of passing fortune." Stay tuned!

Hi Robert-
My head is spinning with what is seemingly a HUGE amount of activity in my chart as related to this upcoming eclipse. It would be really great if you could help me "net" some of this out:
Saturn 7 Aries 10th
North Node 27 Aries
Moon 26 Taurus 11th
Ascendant 13 Cancer 12th
Pluto 21 Virgo 3rd
Uranus 26 Virgo
Sun & South Node 27 Libra 4th
Neptune 23 Scorpio 5th
Namaste-

Ummm swimming through some intense yellow energy field tonight, surrounded by guides...WTF is up?!

Hello Robert,
A couple of thoughts:
(1) Does the T-Square the moon makes in Gemini to the Saturn-Uranus opposition when the opposition is exact a few days before the eclipse also have some bearing for the next few months - particularly as the moon transits through the void at 19 Sagittarius?
(2) Given that the Taurus-Scorpio axis is perpendicular to the lunation, what are your early thoughts for this year's Christfest and the new moon in Taurus?
(3) This Aries is DELIGHTED about Venus' prolonged stay in the his sign. Natally, I have Venus semisquare to my sun from Aquarius. What is your take on having the mundane planets in the same aspect but their signs reversed - and the Aquarius sun is approximately conjunct my Venus and the Aries Venus approximately conjunct my Sun?
Thank you as always -
Yours,
Matt

Robert,
Have you found in your work with Eclipses that if the North Node is "attending" -- and one would assume that, in a Lunar Eclipse, the North Node would be working with the Sun -- the Eclipse has a more "fortunate" outcome than if the South Node is involved?
Celeste Teal talks of this in her book on Eclipses and I'm curious if you've seen evidence of this in your work and study. Of course, this question isn't taking into account one's personal chart and oppositions or conjunctions made to personal planets or angles from the Eclipse.
But, generally, do you find the North Node in attendance to the Eclipse giving more than taking?
Thanks. :^)

Hi, Robert I have a question for you. Hahaha! What a surprise huh? That's my wacky Canadian sense of humour for you??? I noticed that for this full moon eclipse the ac of Tokyo is at 13 degrees. That is one degree leaving my ic and one degree approaching my venus. Does or could this having any influence on affairs of that house in my own life or a Venusian influence in my life?
Posted by: Micheline | February 03, 2009 at 10:23 PM
I have no problems posting today but I am at work and I have some free time on my hands. Well, one more thing. My 2008/2009 solar chart. Also, has the ac of the chart at 13. Interesting isn't?
Posted by: Micheline | February 03, 2009 at 10:25 PM
This Lunar eclipse is in the exact degree of my MC, Midheaven.
I don't foresee changes by now...but it seems that this eclipse promises...something (for good or for ill).
Long term or strong changes are possible with this Eclipse placement?. Or...are they coming for sure?. What should I expect?...
That lonely Moon opposed to the planetary arsenal is quite strange.
Thanks.

Hello Robert,
This is the first time I've commented on your site.
I've been following your analysis of the eclipses and wondered if you had any insight into the new Comet called Lulin. With the next eclipse in Leo and the Comet heading towards Leo this month, what effect may this additional energy have with the Great Irrationality?
What may be of interest is that the Comet appears to be moving backwards. I can't say I've ever heard of a "retrograde" Comet before. So it is certinly unusual.
Thanks

Hi Robert,
Was wondering what effect this lunar eclipse (as well as January's solar eclipse) would have on me? My asc. is 4 Aquarius and my north node is 22 Aquarius in the first house. My sun is 19 Virgo (7th/8th), my moon is about 17 Gemini (4th or 5th depending on house system). Pluto is in Leo (7th)conj. the south node. Also was wondering if you could comment on the Saturn/Uranus transit conj/opp. my Sun. I feel big changes in the air for me but also some resistance - plus it is hard to implement anything consistently with Saturn retrograde going over my Sun. Everything either seems like it constantly needs to be revised/ rethought or else it feels like it is crashing down on me! Any thoughts?

Hi S - An old lifestyle will be shut down and a new divine power restructured. You're a being who has much to learn from the whales and dolphins. This month is highly productive, and you can expect interesting opportunities that will perfectly fit your circumstances and gifts. You'll see more clearly by late May which way your wind is blowing.
Hi Damien - Could be any number of things. Maybe you have a type of "seeing" opening.
Hi Matt - Any time the Moon hits 18-22 Mutable it sets off all kinds of hot spots from past and present. The opposition is part of the eclipse, but the Moon is not. It forms a semisextile and quincunx to the opposition of the eclipse. This will obviously be a culmination of last year's Christfest lessons. This year's Full Moon in Taurus will initiate a new teaching. The reversed planetary signs shows that is the focus for this particular Venus RX set of lessons, as opposed to others. Illumination of Venus, beauty of the Sun.
Hi duse - I've written about the Nodes in other articles. Often the NN lessons are more difficult, but ultimately more productive of growth. The SN may be easier, but can also show us the "black holes" of wheelspinning. I tend not to frame things as "fortunate" with the NN, since I've seen it work through some very difficult circumstances. I see NN as "building," SN as "releasing."
Hi Micheline - Yes, absolutely. It means that if you're in Tokyo it will stimulate your Venus/4th manifestations. And that it will release important elements of the Solar Return for this year.
Hi Henry - Old public self representations end, new ones coming over the next few months. Yes, the Moon focuses the power of the Aquarian stellium, but don't forget Saturn also is in the "other" sector.
Hi Fionna - Welcome to the cantina. Comets are wanderers that sometimes dump particles of minerals on our planet. They are said to be harbingers of things ending and beginning. Apparently this is the first time this one has shown up in our system. Don't know that it's backwards, but that too is entirely in our Earth's perspective, since comets, being driven by Solar rays, always move away from the Sun.
Hi Michele - It should light up your line of greatest development for a few months. Saturn on your Sun shows this year is one of getting the Truth about you, and what is done. You should be getting rewards for efforts over many years, and some degree of recognition. Try not to frame things as "either-or" but rather "both-and." Uranus has been and continues to revolutionize your life, so enjoy the freedom to individuate.

Hi there Robert, this is my first time commenting on one of your articles...I am about to celebrate my 37th birthday on February 10th and according to my Solar Return chart this Eclipse is hitting my sun exactly. I was born at 3.30 pm in London (1972) but am living in northern New South Wales, Australia...I have so many points being hit in my chart and was wondering if all the endings which occured for me in 2008 are making way for new beginnings and if so,I'd really appreciate some insight into how to focus this momentous energy into my life!
Thanks, Lizzie

Hi Robert,
I know this is off the subject but could you tell me a little more about the progressed Moon- I had a progressed lunar return this week, the Moon at 2 deg. 11 min. Cancer- my second one, I am 54.(My Sun is 7 deg. Cancer.) Of course I woke up that day not feeling any different, but I'm hoping for some kind of new direction, especially in my job. Cancer rules my 6th house. I don't know if the eclipse will affect me altho it contacts my Pluto in Leo.
Thanks.... Namaste! :)

Hi Robert,
I'm feeling those fork in the road aspects you've also been writing about very intensely right now in terms of future directions but which may now be coming to have more actual consequences to where I live, what I do. As part of the beginning of realizing this new path, I think it may involve some intense further education but I'm not sure whether to move forward this coming fall or the next! If you could help me make sense of this eclipse a bit more that might help me decide to move forward as some decisions need to be made in the coming weeks. Sun, Mercury, Venus and Neptune are all planets that are in later degrees of Scorpio. My Moon is in Sagg, Jupiter in early Leo and Ascendant in mid Leo. Mars, Uranus and Pluto are all late degrees of Virgo. Taurus in North Node and Midheaven. Saturn in Pisces late degree.
Hope you are well Robert!
Thanks again for the great website!!

Hi Robert..I have arrived here as the eclipse has started in Melbourne Australia..(I have had no internet for 3 weeks..as we have moved house)Much devestation has occured here in Victoria..and much love and support is in action..as Australia has a solar chart as capricorn..I wonder and watch as Pluto would act on the ascendent area and noticed this description of yours..
"Pluto leads the occupied pattern. This shows we must demonstrate economy of energy and embrace larger purification practices to organize how our Soul embodies its truth in practical activities. This will bring forth seeds of new experiences, new duties, and new authorship in public ways over the next 3 months as indicated by the eclipse duration.".
..and thought it a clear feeling of the activities here at the moment..
Love and Peace to any who may have people they know amongst this catastrophe..
I will try to make sense as this eclipse unfolds ..I do not know if the impact of the eclipse falls in the 7th or 6th house...both seemimg relevent..
Thanking you once again for your brilliance Robert..I will start to read more thoroughly..

Hi Robert,
This eclipse will be happening exactly on my Mars, 21° Aquarius, in my 2nd house. What kind of energies do you think will be activated? Thanks!
Happy lunar eclipse to all!

Hi Robert, I may have missed something but did you ever post Part 3? Thanks. Grateful for your amazing insight as usual.

Hi WHR - There are many ways to heal. Some things we "heal" by learning to live with the deficiency if we cannot "cure" it. The trick is not to beat our heads against the wall trying to find a "cure" when the cure is to learn to cope and move on. Allopathic medicine has almost killed me on several occasions, so it's not something I trust except within narrow applications. However, having embraced since 1973, I've also found that some alternative healing techniques work better than others. All the Tibetan eye exercises and carrot juice (plus beet, wheatgrass, etc.) only brought me from 20/800+ to 20/400. To get to 20/20 I needed to use the Exemer laser. And with my extreme allergies, "making friends with the plants" doesn't help as much as antihistimines and going to a mucousless diet high in citrus. That said, Louise Hay's book did help me cure a 3 month long extreme case of the boils in 5 days. And both acupuncture and yoga can cure or prevent a host of ills. On a final note, you "deserve to be here" whether you believe you are healing or healed. You are the mystery of Divine Light, Law, and Love made manifest. Re-read "Remember" and breathe easy.
Hi Marci - Mahalo! Happy Birthday and Solar Return. Blessings on your grandmother's passing. Mine also died 18 days short of her 101st recently. Sorry Madoff scammed you along with so many others. I hope you get to share in some of what was recovered, though it'll never be enough to make things right. Jupiter should give you a great opportunity this year. Open the door and greet the guest.
Hi Lizzie - Just remember that Lunar Eclipses usually only last a few months. You also should have a great adventure come to you this year, so seek a greater vision and become stronger through what you have withdrawn from. Much will be unveiled this year that will leave you free to live a larger life beginning this Autumn.
Hi Valerie - The progressed lunar return resets your inner defaults about what you care about or don't. A set of habits is over, and you're figuring out what you care about and what you need. It prepares us for the new purposes arising around the second Saturn Return.
Hi Marlene - Yes, it was a great get-together, wasn't it? And the Indian lunch at Chandni's was utterly fantastic.
Hi alexandra - The Lunar Eclipse will last for about 3 months, and help us move through disappointments and develop strength. The Solar Eclipse is of far more importance, and promises many great things for those who embrace that which is new, some potential we haven't fulfilled. You're restructuring the ruler of your Scorpio planets. Mars in Virgo and Mercury in Scorpio put them in mutual reception, thus making them the "drivers" of the chart. Jupiter in Aquarius is lower (waxing) square to planets in Scorpio, showing new foundations and new emergent promises and opportunities.
Hi Antionette - Not enough information for me to hazard an estimate, and not really a good topic for a comment stream.
Hi Felita - Glad you're with us and checked in! I suspect the wildfires and devastation were indicated by last year's Solar Eclipse where the shadow fell across that part of Australia. Again, this year's Solar Eclipse will prove very strong the next few years, and beneficial for bringing in radically new elements in all our lives.
Hi Leana - It will bring new ways of doing your Mars function in your world, through illumination and teaching that will persist all year as Jupiter is conjunct your Mars. You should be able to find excellent opportunities to make money quickly through embracing Aquarian vision and energies.
Hi hitchhiker72 - I did write it, but forgot to post it in my haste to get on the road. It's in queue to post tomorrow.

Hi Alexandra - You're welcome.

This is a first for me, and do not quite know how to frame a question. Still trying to learn how to interpret and respond appropriately. The full moon on Apr 9, @ 20 Libra in my 7th hs is opposite natal moon & sun transit @ 19'0 Aries in 1st hs. The 'cookbook' definitions of those aspects seem to indicate a contradictory situation. Brought me back to your eclipse notes regarding the bigger picture "...sure to affect anyone with an Ascendant or planets between 18-27 of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, as well as those with planets between 19-23 of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius..." and "...benefit greatly over the next few months, as will those with occupied points around early Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, early and mid Cancer, early Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Sag, early to mid Capricorn, and early Aquarius..."
With Asc 4' Aries , Sun 5' Sag, Pluto 23'Leo,am very confused about the implications for relationships and financial negotiations - which are apparently in a coil with the retro venus.. did I ask a real question? oh - then there are Nep & Sat @ 22 & 23 Libra. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. downsizing, layoffs, broke, back to school - inexplicably calm and optimistic - and totally confused.
Posted by: Ryn | April 05, 2009 at 05:25 PM
Hi Ryn - Welcome to the cosmic classroom and cantina. Not quite sure what you're asking. All the factors coexist, and each works their own influence. I'm sure you'll have a much clearer picure by the time Venus and Mars cross your Ascendant. Calm and optimistic are always a good thing. Jupiter is favorable to your Libra, so relax into it.
