« The Dalai Lama Is Highly Annoyed | Main | Finding A New Job, Career, or Life, Part 2 - Astrological Factors »

Perfect. Just perfect. This is certainly the week in which I was about to abandon one of my many odd-jobs. And now I know that I can...

You're right-- I can't grow grapes in a battle zone.

Thank you.

Great article -- one thing I'd like to add, because I'm in the process of looking for a new role for work (and new venue and direction and so on).

The thing that helps me the most is talking to people. It's so hard to know what kinds of jobs are out there -- or roles or directions etc -- without talking to people of all different backgrounds, fields, and so on. I've found that one conversation can help me nail better what it is that I'm looking for.

Being open, as you say, Robert, is the most important thing. I always try to walk into a conversation as though this could be the most interesting thing in the world and and ask lots of questions.

The most surprising outcomes have come for me when I least expect it -- either because what looked like a dead end wasn't one, or because someone in whose career I had no interest thought of me. It's so much easier for people who know little about your interest to put you up for things that those in your field wouldn't (because they know the specifics of what you do) -- so when someone I networked with for 5 minutes heard "education" from someone else, he called me because I had been a teacher.

I had never even considered the possibility of what was offered (it was really marketing on a website for children's books), but I took it -- I didn't even have email at the time.

It changed my life.

Anyway, hope that's helpful.

Hi Robert, I don't know if it's just at my end/my puter, but there's no link for me to click. I take it this part - Without further ado, here's "Finding A New Job, Career, or Life – Part 1" - is supposed to be the link? It's not there.
I'm anxious to read it as I've begun smth new job-wise that I hadn't even considered, but am now almost finished with a course, soon to start a work experience placement type thing. I'm hoping this will provide opportunities such as getting an inroad into what I truly love, vet nursing.
Anyway, looking forward to read it! :)

Great and certainly nailed to present situtions. People resisting change are facing hard situations.

My change of job came vey natural last summer because I looked for it when I felt the radical need to, and the opportunity expanded with past Saturn/Jupiter Earth-trine, and now I feel more "in place" than I was before.

How came this process?. Just like Robert suggests: That thing that you know you do very well, or at least gives you satisfaction, and at the same time satisfies people in one way or another. Does it match with something in your life?. And how can you integrate this as a job?. Sometimes educational patterns can bring you far away from your inner talents, I think.

I know not all the answers will arrive immediately, but the seed, the root of the question, is this. At least is my experience.

Good luck.

hey robert,
this ties into right livlihood :-)
me too re: the "openness, willingness, perseverance" as you say. it seems this seems to be the 'enlightened' way right now.

from my guides i have received the idea of "adaptability & flexibility"....

hope all is well with you & your travels are in a flow.

Never mind the link question Robert, what I've read *was* the thing! Dear me... :)

Hi WarriorLady - Yes, often we succeed by knowing what is possible not merely in the season with the skills we have, but taking a look at "real world" conditions and realizing that if there's been a 5 year drought, we may not be able to farm as successfully there as somewhere else. And though we pray for rain, "sometimes the magic works, and sometimes it doesn't."

Hi Annette - Thanks for your sage advice. I know you've been searching with diligence, and so have learned many things about how and where to look. Sometimes just talking with random strangers (or friends!) in a coffee house or laundromat can yield better results than all the newspaper ads in the world! Friends of friends also are a great resource. I always recommend selling skills rather than job histories, since people hiring are looking for skills, not a history.

Hi Jessi - I knew you'd figure it out!;-)

Hi Henry - Great that you followed your "natural feeling" and it did in fact lead you somewhere productive. Found that's true over many years. Of course, it's a journey, and so taking the view that we will learn many things this lifetime is always a good perspective as we move through several areas of learning and potential expertise.

Hi Michele - Well, I've long maintained that flexibility is a virtue in an Age in Transition. Am still on the road due to mechanical malfunction of jet engines. At least I found out before we took off!!
