Neptune and Pluto are still in septile, and therefore anchoring what I have termed The Grand Irrationality. This long wave global activating influence began in the mid-1990s and will manifest for years to come. It explains why things are constantly very weird, why people can be so obsessive-compulsive and make strange choices, and why irrational behaviors that make little sense pervade our world. Because of it we are all under frequent pressure to make life-altering choices and changes as we stand at forks in the road of Destiny.
This is a very long article, so I've had to split it into 2 sections. The two cover many elements that can help us navigate the very weird times we live in. To recap, The Grand Irrationality is a septile-driven configuration, and creates an "energy field" of strange, irrational, obsessive-compulsive energies.
For those who want to know more about these very important, "destiny producing" non-rational angular fields, at the end of this post I've included an article elaborating on these aspects. Consulting that post may help explain how these aspects work their influence within the larger energetic field in which "we live, breathe, and have our being."
Due to Neptune and Pluto being in a very long term septile and the other planets making regular visits to the various zones in Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, and Scorpio, its influence is fairly constant. This is a major factor as to why such extreme hard-edged strangeness is boiling to the top in personalities and situations. Collectively we are at a major fork in the road of human evolution resulting from the almost constant pressure put on everyone each time this aspect series is triggered.
It was virtually non-stop in 2007. Boosting what began with the Autumn 2006 Eclipses, there were important septile series configurations made by transits that set off important changes and choices that did not make much sense, but we had to make them anyway. These transits continue for many years to come, showing us how to greet the forward edge of our future "destiny" by the ways we greet the weirdness of the NOW.
The Grand Irrationality will continue for a decade to come, and as noted, it activates any time a planet or the Moon crosses any of the seven zones of influence. We began a particularly intense period lasting for many months beginning late September 2008 as Saturn entered the Virgo zone.
This crystalized what Mars portended in late July and early August 2008. We got more information about these Saturnine lessons pervading this current period when Mercury and Venus also crossed that zone in the third week of August 2008. You can find more about the major changes that happened from May through December 2008 at the end of this article.
During April, May, and June of 2009, the hot zones of The Grand Irrationality are approximately 1-6 Capricorn, 24-28 Aquarius, 15-19 Aries, 6-10 Gemini, 27 Cancer to 1 Leo, 18-22 Virgo, and 9-14 Scorpio depending on the exact degrees of Neptune and Pluto.
With Saturn's entry into the Virgo zone of the Grand Irrationality in late September 2008, it ushered in global changes in power structures, and practical solutions to pressing problems. We began to confront unused or "caged in" powers and skills as well as explosions releasing pressures so that our "will to wholeness" could come into form.
We're getting new exposure to these issues in April through early July 2008. It may be useful to reflect on what lessons we learned around taking responsibility or showing maturity in late 2008 as a guide to present action. You can bet that by July, we're all going to be moving in the direction of a higher Destiny resulting from our choices these months.
Inner guidance and cooperation were keys to success late October and early November, and from then through the end of December we were introduced to lessons we reviewed in January and February. We have begun an adventure in consciousness that will be much clearer by August.
Though it may seem our material or nonmaterial resources are inadequate somehow, we are all being challenged to link our energies with others in an organized cooperative way. This is part of the ongoing process to claim whatever "venerable standards" we're willing to uphold for others who will follow. These also will be clearly manifest by the end of August 2009.
When Saturn retrograded back into a biseptile with Pluto and triseptile with Neptune from late January through February 2009, we could relate that time and those lessons to Autumn 2008 to find clues as to how we may deal with the impending irrational, obsessive-compulsive energies. We learned about these in September and October, and had major experiences with The Grand Irrationality in December 2008 thanks to the many conjunctions to Pluto, also septiling Neptune and biseptiling Saturn.
We can expect a fairly wild ride in this forecast period and for a couple of months after that, since the final transit of Saturn through the Virgo zone of the Grand Irrationality is coming July-August 2009. This influence is boosted by Jupiter conjunct Neptune in the Aquarius zone of the Grand Irrationality from now through July.
Obviously when the inner planets move through the various zones during this year-long activation the entire pattern will be intensified. Venus and Mars will transit the Aries zone in mid-May, and trigger the point set up at Venus retrograde station in early March, setting many things into motion that will bring an end to whatever we've been dealing with the past two years we no longer need to contend with. I'll discuss more about the inner planet transits in the next article in this series.
Any time the Moon transits any of the hot zones the pattern is triggered. In April, May, and June, due to the constant influence of Saturn in Virgo, the Moon will add a fourth point each time it transits any zone outside of Virgo, Capricorn, or Aquarius. The first time the Moon adds another point to the Grand Irrationality was April 3, when it transited the Cancer zone. It will do so again on April 30-May 1, May 27-28, and June 24.
The Moon transits the Virgo zone, conjuncting Saturn and boosting its influence, on April 6-7, May 4-5, May 31-June 1, and June 27-28. This will of course boost Saturn being the nozzle for all the planetary energies since it's the only planet outside the cluster of all the other planets occupying the span of early Capricorn through Taurus in April-May and Gemini in May-June.
The Moon closes its "outlier" sequence of signs when it moves through the Scorpio zone April 10-11, May 7-8, June 3-4, and June 30-July 1. After that, it moves back through the span occupied by all the other planets. It begins the span of conjunctions in a particularly important zone spanning the very end of Sagittarius and the very beginning of Capricorn.
In that zone the Moon conjuncts Pluto at the Galactic Center on April 14-15, May 12-13, and June 8-9. As the first degree of Capricorn is part of this zone, there is also the added importance of 1 degree Capricorn being a "critical degree" as defined by the ancients. This is due to it being a point of entry into one of the Lunar Mansions, but that's more than we can go into in this article.
Any time the Moon moves through the last degree of Sagittarius and early Capricorn, as well as late Aquarius, the influences are far-reaching in their effects on humanity, since the Sagittarius-Capricorn zone involves the Galactic Center and the Aquarius zone activates long range eclipse effects.
These eclipse effects are being set into motion in a BIG way by Jupiter in Aquarius this year, both shutting down old ways and opening new vistas of group work and ways to manage our energies in collective circumstances.
To elaborate on the importance of the Lunar transit of the Sag-Cap zone of the Grand Irrationality, when the Moon transits that degree span it activates the growth of new forms of Pluto's Transformational long range Seeds. As noted in prior articles, this is releasing influences beyond comprehension (but not experiencing!) due to Pluto conjunct the Galactic Center. Since the Moon nurtures and gives form to whatever it touches, when it transits late Sag and early Cap it focuses the Galactic Center energies currently sprouting as a result of the Pluto conjunction with the GC.
You can find out more about the Galactic Center energies by checking out Pluto at the Galactic Center. There is a lot to explore, so take your time and try to get a sense of these "galactic" energies that will impact our planet for at least 250 years to come, and probably a lot longer, if other long cycle time-wave factors are taken into consideration. I have numerous articles about the GC in the archives, so enjoy!
On a related note, last June's Full Moon in Gemini-Sag, aka "the Christ Fest," set the Moon in Sag conjunct Pluto energy into the collective field for a whole year rather than simply for a month. December's Full Moon brought these energies to surface in very significant ways. You can find out more about the third "High Moon" effect by going to the article titled The Full Moon of June 2008 - It's The ChristFest, as well as the audio talk "The Long (and Short) Term Effects of Christ Fest 2008."
Now for how the Moon is activating prior Eclipses. When the Moon transits the Aquarius zone of the Grand Irrationality it conjuncts Neptune and reinforces and gives form to manifestations arising from very important eclipses. Since early 2008 we've had several very important Eclipses. So it's activating points from the February 2008 Solar Eclipse at 18 Aquarius, as well as the January 2009 Solar Eclipse at 7 Aquarius, both important long wave influences lasting for years.
The February 2008 Solar Eclipse has been and will unveil many things in years to come, and shows a widespread need to finish some renewal within a public or collective setup. The January 2009 Solar Eclipse has been and continues to bring forth original mutations and the birth of global Beings cut loose from local conditions and limited standards.
As an aside, it was extraordinarily important that the February 2008 Solar Eclipse began the year of the Earth Rat, indicating that year departed from prior long cycles since the Rat begins the sequence of Chinese Astrological animals. Due to the position of the Moon’s Nodes, which create the Eclipse effect, the January 2009 Solar Eclipse also marked the beginning of a Chinese Year, that of the Earth Ox.
So when the Moon transits Aquarius and conjuncts Neptune (and Jupiter!) in April, May, and June it sets both The Grand Irrationality AND echoes of last year's Solar Eclipses involving Aquarian energies. These periods will be April 19-20, May 16-17 (at Saturn's station and the Sun square the Aquarius stellium!), and June 13-14.
When the Moon is in Aquarius, we can also expect further manifestations of the 2008-2009 Lunar Eclipse effects as well. 2008 and 2009 are years that will sweep away many assumptions and clear the way for new collective efforts symbolized by the North Node in the sign of Aquarius. The Sun vitalized Aquarian energies in February, and these developed through Mercurial and Martian means in late February and early March 2008. Of course, Jupiter is expanding all of these Aquarian pulses throughout 2009, promising new Aquarian initiatives for 12 years to come. You can find more via the link to the Jupiter conjunct Neptune article earlier in this post.
In the next part of this Spiritual Astrology series we finish this detailed account of how the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter are triggering the Grand Irrationality during the next few weeks. Without doubt so much will be triggered that by the time Summer is here we'll see clearly how previous years are radically different than what we've become, what we're going through, and what is happening in our lives.

Hi Robert-
Thanks for this article. I find all of this so very interesting, but have am a bit of novice and making sense is somewhat of a challenge. I am hoping that you can comment on a couple seemingly significant siutations in my personal chart as related to this article. I have Mars @ 28 33' Sag & Pluto at 21 44' Virgo. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Namaste-

For the brilliance below, GRACIAS:
It explains why things are constantly very weird, why people can be so obsessive-compulsive and make strange choices, and why irrational behaviors that make little sense pervade our world.

Hi Robert.
Thanks for the article, at least it is clear that change is in the air.
Besides all this confusion about materializing change or stay "grounded" in the old and known, I wonder about my deep need for radical changes but...ooooops!...Neptune/Jupiter/Chiron just start their square to my Natal Jupiter...definitely I don't know if it's the better time for changes, specially regarding material dellusions.
Does this great square from transiting planets to Natal Jupiter be a warning like: wait, you don't see reality as it is. OK, in some sense, this "deluding" energy that seems to flow out of specially a Neptune/Jupiter square is somewhat putting brakes on me and taking new decisions regarding new associates, new projects -Aquariuan energy in which Neptune is right now-.
In a few specifics, what to expect in the midst of a Neptune/Jupiter square?. It's 2 years!. By August it will still be there, plus Grand Irrationality...
Thanks!.

Henry... you may also be feeling a deep need for radical change as Mars conjuncts Uranus today in Pisces (talk about explosive impulses). I'm unsure if the semi-sextiles the conjunction makes to Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius are ameliorative or not.
Robert... any thoughts about today's Mars/Uranus conjunction and what this 2+ year cycle initiates?
Yours,
Matt

Thanks Matt!.
I had missed that point.

Hi Robert, I have enjoyed all of your articles on the Grand Irrationality so far. Helps me over the humps somewhat. I'm feeling extra wierd lately, confused, nervous, anxious, vague, etc. Just can't put my finger on it as to why I feel like a mental case. Could be menopause maybe. Or the shifting sands of the economy. I have Mars in 1 deg. Cap. that's the only major tie to the G.I. but it's important enough. And yes, I'd be interested in what you have to say about Mars-Uranus, too.
Other than that, I'm getting excited about the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction, as well. Meditating alot more lately, which is certainly a good thing.
Namaste my friend. :)

thanx for putting some of this "wyrd" energy in persective

Valerie--The anxiety symptoms can be Moon issues and menopause is one great big moon issue! I just had Pluto play tag with my moon for the last 2 + years. I can empathize for sure. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi S - We're ALL novices in some ways, Masters-in-the-becoming in others!;-) Pluto already but your Mars through choices and changes in 2006-2008, so I'm sure you found yourself at a critical fork in the road or two during that time. Your Pluto position is generational. That would imply that what's upon us is particularly affecting those born around your vintage. Pluto is our Divine power of transformation and how we keep focused as the "underworld" manifests in our lives. With Saturn on your Pluto, you may want to go to the archives and check out my article from Jan 22, 2007, on that subject.
Hi WarriorLady - Yes, I tumbled to the phenomenon some years ago, and began exploring its changes. Seems to help make sense of the chaos!
Hi Henry - Your life will become quite clear in many ways, since you'll not only be influenced by the configuration, but you'll be an agent for these energies to work out in your world. Squares to natal Jupiter can be quite nice if you know how to make Jupiter productive. Sometimes changes can be made, sometimes postponed. Narrow your interests to get a better grip on them. As long as things don't get overblown or extravagant, squares to Jupiter can work through opportunities to shift directions into something more appropriate to our truth.
Hi Matt - Semisextiles give things a favorable nudge, in this case an "opening" nudge. Mars conjunct Uranus will activate these "end of the end" types of energies, and produce dramatic catharses and purifications. BTW - This is the last Mars conjunct Uranus in Pisces for 80 years, so enjoy it while you can! It fell on my Jupiter, so I'm anticipating two years of something.....
Hi Valerie - This Mars opposition Saturn conjunct Uranus is also contributing to the overall weirdness and tensions. And yes, "real world" conditions, especially biological, are often a factor in why we feel what we feel. Pluto has certainly been ramping up your Martian responses. Things will bust loose later this month with the waxing squares from Venus and Mars to your Mars. Stay balanced, keep things in proportion, and target what you care about and what you need.
Hi Michele - Sure. Been overworked for the past few weeks without a break due to all kinds of things. We can set up another interview soon.
Hi Nancee - Truly. Interestingly, I also know a woman who went into menopause during the time Pluto conjuncted her Moon. No doubt there's something to this.

Robert-
Thanks and blessings. I read the article from 9/07 and I have to say that that Sept/Oct 2007 were a true turning point for me. I ended a signifant love relationship with an mentally unhealthy and addicted man. It was at that time that I also was drawn deeper to my calling as a yoga teacher and spiritual advisor. The last 2 years have been wonderful and very challening at the same time. I am still drawing "shadow" energy...specifically addiction in others to me...something that is baffling since I am not an addict nor do I have addiction in my family history. I suppose it is part of my path and I am learning to be compassionate but not attached.
Namaste,
S

Hi Nancee, thank you very much for that insight! Yes menopause is a moon issue- and I have Sun/Moon in Cancer as a matter of fact, and Pluto is presently opposite my Moon. Ah Ha. And thank you Robert for the extra tips. Venus-Mars has been very interesting already this month!
Thank you all. :)

"Without doubt so much will be triggered that by the time Summer is here we'll see clearly how previous years are radically different than what we've become, what we're going through, and what is happening in our lives." - Wauh! I only hope that I can live to see it and LIVE it...

Robert,
I would say so! I researched the next Mars-Uranus conjunction and it's huge; it occurs at 2 Aries just after the new moon in Aries that conjuncts Jupiter as it opposes Saturn... and Mars is the sole dispositor of the lunation! If that weren't enough, Neptune begins its voyage through its home of Pisces the next day.

Hi S - Claiming one's power to crystalize Divine Economy of Energy often means letting go of obsolete patterns and manifestations, including people. Perhaps when we see people as metaphors we can get a broader detached view of things. Everyone is "addicted" to something in that we do get attached to things and people. The trick when another seems "addicted," whether to us or a substance or a behavior, is to realize they're merely trying to fulfill something within themselves that is unfulfilled, and we or it represents a living symbol of that. Definitely in our Higher Way we must get beyond judging some things as "good" or "bad," since once upon a time that was us, if not in this life then another. And when bad behavior is transmuted, it creates wisdom in the one who once suffered, and provides a vehicle of service to others who still suffer.
Hi Valerie - You're most welcome. Glad the networking continues! And just wait until Venus and Mars both quintile then sextile your Cancer energies.
Hi Isabel - Ride the wave....
Hi Matt - Yes, the next Mars-Uranus occurs at the major junction in history. I suppose those of us who live with Mars will do well despite the hard edge to whatever is going on in the world at large (though I expect Neptune in Pisces to be even weirder than Uranus in Pisces!)
Posted by: Robert | April 21, 2009 at 07:38 AM
Hi Robert -
I guess we'll find out how weird soon enough! Nonetheless, it will be just a taste of what will come since Neptune will Rx back into Aquarius one last time before hunkering down in Pisces in 2012. In fairness, I think I'm going to prefer Neptune in my 12th to Uranus!

Hi
I'm not even an astrology novice but I've read a few kryon postings (the channel) which speaks of astrology needing to shift (specifically the degree of houses, I think) due to the shifts in the magnetics of the earth. I'm curious to find astrologers who are working in this newer space of reconsidering the 'rules' of astrology - any tips? Thanks! :-)
Posted by: Nancy | April 23, 2009 at 11:20 PM
Hi Matt - I suspect when Neptune hits the last two degrees of Aquarius it will encode the first dawning of the coming Aquarian Age into collective consciousness.
Hi Nancy - Not sure what you're referring to. Degrees of houses is entirely individual and not collective, since the Asc and MC house degrees derive from Sidereal Time, computed for the space/time coordinates at birth. The rest of the house degrees are the result of how we divide quadrants by space and/or time. If you're speaking of Sidereal v Tropical constellations, I've been on record for decades about the specifics on why Sidereal is no more accurate than Tropical.
I've been speaking of the shift in Earth magnetics for years, specifically due to humans messing with the internal and external hydraulics through pumping oil, ripping cubic miles of quartz, underground nuke testing, etc. That's why the timestream has quickened.
As for reconsidering the "rules of Astrology," that should only be done by those who actually KNOW the "rules of Astrology." There are too many people proclaiming things they know nothing about, and have no foundation in any real system. For someone who knows nothing about the foundations of all 9 schools of Astrological study to try to change "the rules" would be like me trying to rewrite the rules of carpentry. While I could assert my opinion, that opinion might not be the best way to build a house!;-) As I used to tell my metaphysical students, "one must study to know, know to understand, and understand to judge." Without study and comprehension of any subject, it's just another opinion based in ignorance. The 5th Ray exists as a necessary function within a larger harmonic of the 7-fold manifestation of Limitless Light, and without mastering its principles we can never realize or practice the Art of anything.

Hi Robert,
Things are intense, I feel much "pressure"....the wesak festival/full moon squares the Lunar eclipse
of Feb...which fell ontop of my Uranus at 20 Leo,.... the scorpio full moon conjucts my sun 22 and my mars 17
degrees in the 2nd house and opposses my taurus moon 21 degrees, in the 8th...death of old inner values? "Testing time"?
Things are coming up from the depths, old addictions that
I am seeing/forced to face /change....allowing relationship-developing friendship first (opening up)...and communicating feelings
truthfully....as mars/venus march through aries (my pof 12 aries,7th house)...dreams show a quick/intense affair-he could be married/cheating?....
deja-vu another chance to get it right, the last relationship hidden cheating.. which I didn,t speak up, but allowed,
didn,t value myself enough...ah ha...full moon is in my 2nd house..self-worth issues??????

Robert...
I found a qoute the other day..."the outer crumbles, when the inner needs strengthening"...
I am noticing a difference in my outer presentation....not so much aggressive, more ability for
detachment... and an ability
to express feelings. And a relationship, that I have tried to push away, is front and center
and Im finding my inner desire to allow it...opening. I have "waited" or been held back for so
long.....and been dependent on others, while at the same time finding inner strength to stand
up to those same people......please tell me I am somewhere near a threshold. My Pluto at 6 Virgo
won,t be oppossed by Jupiter till next Feb...
Soul Ray 4 harmony through conflict?
Blessings....

Hi WHR - Your Sun-Mars should get nurtured by the coming Wesak energies, and your Moon illuminated and vitalized. It should be a very favorable time, though one of purifying and eliminating old habit patterns. Remember 8th house often contains things from past lives that it's time to use or lose, for good or ill. Also our way of relating to social values. Venus-Mars will fuse many things, and you should find some joy as they cross your POF. 49 is always uncertain, since what's done is done and you face a new world. After Wesak, Venus and Mars crossing your Moon should show you the essence of what this year's about. Perhaps your Taurus will start expressing differently than up to now. Usually a 4th Ray Soul is a musician or other type of artist first, last, and always. You have a Sun-Mars quintile Pluto, which is very good for getting to the core of things and eliminating whatever is no longer needed efficiently. Jupiter waxing square your Sun and waning square your Moon is throwing a lot of energy into late Leo. Good for strengthening purpose, as well as the heart.
