The New Moon falls at 25 Sagittarius on December 16, 2009, 4:02 am PST, 7:02 am EST, 12:02 pm GMT. The New Moon sextile Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune and trine Mars will assist multi-tasking and getting new understanding of old dualities while foreshadowing powers to be demonstrated in the future.
This is the next in a sequences of New Moons that fall at the end of their signs and are followed by Full Moons in the next signs. It is also a phase of "productive fulfillment" related to the Aquarian stellium, continuing to bring much of that year-long altruistic energy to fruition in innovative ways.
The Lunation finds 18 Scorpio rising in Santa Monica, 8 Scorpio in Vancouver, 20 Sagittarius in Washington DC, 20 Pisces in London, 2 Aries in Amsterdam, 23 Aries in Berlin, 22 Aries in Johannesburg, 2 Gemini in Tallinn, 11 Taurus in Istanbul, 27 Gemini in New Delhi, 18 Gemini in Trivandrum, 12 Cancer in Bangkok, 24 Leo in Tokyo, 6 Cancer in Perth, 3 Leo in Melbourne, 14 Virgo in Wellington, and 19 Libra rising on Maui.
This New Moon at 25 Sagittarius will help us open to wider views, greater truths, productive philosophies, and imaginative experiences which will help us grow. Over the past 3 New Moons we've found wisdom amidst the passages by understanding Nature's cycles and continued our journey away from "a narrow destiny" and "routine duties." We've seen how to purify our personality so the Soul can come forth, and how to accept power or Grace to take the lead in our world. This one helps us bust loose from some old stuff forever, leaving us free to pursue higher awareness, however we define that.
This New Moon in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. Given the extremely favorable sextile between the New Moon stellium in Sagittarius and the heavyweight stellium in Aquarius, expect major productivity in many areas of your life. Jupiter ruling the Lunation will assist the ability to demonstrate true detachment and dispassion, where we teach and/or learn from ours or others' experiences.
The chain of "final dispositors" involves Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus. As these are for the most part favorable to each other, it should be a fairly harmonious set of weeks ahead. Given the overall aspect situation, we'll all have challenges to assimilate new knowledge while making progress despite whatever limiting conditions we may find. We'll all have opportunities to "prune back" parts of our existence so we may demonstrate to others something of our inner nature.
This is the second New Moon with Saturn in Libra, with more to come until April 2010 when the Aries New Moon will again have Saturn in Virgo. That implies we have entered into our Saturn in Libra lessons through March 2010, which is a dress rehearsal for many New Moons with Saturn in Libra from August 2010-October 2012.
Astrologers will note that Saturn is at 4 Libra in this New Moon, the same degree it will occupy by retrograde motion at the February 2010 New Moon and again direct at the late August 2010 Full Moon. This makes the Saturn lessons associated with this New Moon directly relevant to whatever we'll experience associated with the Aquarius New Moon conjunct Chiron and Neptune in the Aquarius zone of the Grand Irrationality. Time to join with our allies, friends, and fellow truth-seekers as a technique for community building or group awareness.
Since last month, Saturn has shown that we'll be given opportunities to identify with larger cycles, larger possibilities, and move past static forms into understanding cyclic dynamics over the next 10 months. We can find new inspiration and get centered in creative positions. Saturn in Virgo prepared us to act according to how we've been educated the past 2 years, and now we enter the next phase of this "first run" of manifesting a new ideal, a new archetype, and a new sense of self within interpersonal and collective circumstances.
Given that the Sun and Moon are binovile Saturn, we should see some things that have been gestating come into focus around Dharma ("true function") issues, having made recent decisions about which roads we've chosen and rejected the past month. Given the overall configurations, the coming weeks should be very productive even as we reorient, which for some will lead to a move of major proportions in 2010.
The Lunation shows a "See Saw" Jones Pattern, with Mars and Saturn separate from all the rest of the planets. Given that Mars is semisquare Saturn and opposed the Aquarius stellium while sesquisquare Pluto, it's a time of revelations, annoyances, and important long term internal decisions as we stand on the threshold of Mars retrograde. You can find more by going to Astrology in December 2009 - We're In the Heart of Mars, Saturn, and Pluto Octile Series Aspects.
The things we've been launching the past 4 weeks have begun to slow in December as Mars also slows. We'll get to revisit some of our recent initiatives or methods in order to rework them, or do something else that must be done before we can achieve them in January. This will prepare us for a stronger approach next April and May.
As noted in the article on Octiles, another important influence in the chart is Saturn square Pluto. Mercury in mid-Capricorn is biseptile Saturn, showing more dramatic personality demonstrations coming out, even as they are for the most part leading us to spiritual realizations thanks to the Lunation binovile. Venus is quintile Saturn while trine Mars, showing opportunities for high specialization while reorienting toward a new way of living or a new environment.
Though they are out of sign and 9 degrees apart from the opposition, Saturn and Uranus still continue to lurk as a very powerful background polarizing influence. Now that Uranus is moving forward in December and Saturn goes retrograde in January, we'll re-experience the opposition effect for many months afterwards.
I discussed this major influence of 2009-2010 involving Saturn opposition Uranus lessons at the link. You can find out more in the recent article Saturn Opposed Uranus - The Centrifuge Purifies All Of Us.
Throughout many articles in past months, I've explained that this very powerful pattern involving the two "titans of authority," Saturn and Uranus, is revolutionizing our lives and forcing us to adjust, learn, practice, and be very realistic in training for something revolutionary that we're in the midst of. The polarization can assist us in building a new individuality, interactive yet protected, as we embrace needed adjustments, conform to a plan, and do whatever it takes to live the higher standard we believe is worthy.
Though the opposition effect is now waning for a few weeks, remember that Saturn is still in very tight square to Pluto, so continue to expect signs of friction on large and small levels. As I've mentioned in other articles, it's the culmination of what began November 1982, when Saturn conjuncted Pluto at 28 Libra. This is a long range cycle for human evolution. Things set into motion then will fulfill their process between November 2009 and August 2010, when the last waning square is made. From Summer 2010 on, Saturn will make no more frictional aspects to Pluto until late 2014.
The most important aspects in this lunation include those I've mentioned so far, as well as the very powerful squares from Venus conjunct the Moon and Sun, all square to Uranus. So the energies build via the Sag-Aquarius sextiles, and release through the Sag-Pisces squares. This requires that as we open to the new information or new ways of communicating opening through the opposition-sextile-trine, we can release those powerful energies and awarenesses through a proper Virgo focus.
This lunation offers us a chance to master discouragement, step back from dramas that we have no business being in, refuse the petty or petulant, and inspire self and others through seeing a bigger picture. We will have opportunities to get above strife and become unattached as we see a bigger picture and a greater role in helping others overcome coldness or some kind of lack. The training, resoluteness, and expertise we demonstrate during this time will lead to significant public recognition down the road, with each pass of planets through the sign of Virgo.
With Venus, Moon, Sun, and Mercury all harmonious to Mars, areas ruled by these planets should harmonize quite nicely these next few weeks. This involves 8 signs, so enjoy! The primary lessons involve learning to use our genius or uniqueness more effectively within a larger vision, not jumping to conclusions, and bring things to sufficient definiteness so we can get a handle on the whole of our affairs.
Also featured is the need to be able to capitalize on sudden or unusual developments, find values which life will recognize and reward consistently, stop idle speculations, and substitute productive action for procrastination or finding reasons for non-action. We will have opportunities to cultivate social intuition, and should be decisive and wholehearted in pursuing the goals that truly matter to us while being alert to what will appeal to others in general. Be simple, efficient, and alert, taking care of details, and you should see many things develop, despite the slowed pace.
Mars semisquare Saturn will last into January 2010, so get used to the constant inner tensions. Do not get distracted by unnecessary hassles or obligations, keep stabilizing new patterns and ideals, and get connected to the source of light, power, and wisdom however you define these.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This New Moon falls at 25 Sagittarius, a point of anticipating or playing with energies not yet fully mastered. We will learn forms of "self conservation" as we detach from old views and understanding.
Under specific circumstances, this will help us find or express something to be transferred to or from us regarding a deeper social-emotional detachment. Given the aspect to Uranus, we should be able to demonstrate forms of uniqueness and/or genius to solve a problem, fix a situation, or adjust something so that it can move more freely.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, we find the Lunation degree is "A chubby boy on a hobbyhorse," showing our ambition to leave our "stamp on our world," achieved through "fullness of living and a perfection of accomplishment." Here we can try out skills that expand our sense of fulfillment, and through play and training we can stay focused on our goals.
It is a degree of anticipating powers we will use in the future, so stay open to the rhythm of how and when we can demonstrate these emerging powers. The keyword is EMULATION, and we are told this degree, when positive, "is an indomitable determination to give the lesser potentialities of existence a more effective dimension."
Due to where it falls, it will most impact those with planets between 17-25 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces, with special focus on 23-25 of those signs. This will configure with the Sun of those born mid-March, mid-June, mid-September, and mid-December, as well as generations with Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto in those spans.
In this Lunation, there is a preponderance of planets in Fire and Air signs, with 2 Earth and only 1 planet in Water. This shortage of Earth and Water planets indicates a deficiency of practicality and grounding energy, as well as feelings. But we can be inspired and open to newer, broader ideas and concepts, which should free us for greater things to come.
Given that Mars in Leo and Saturn in Libra are set apart from the other planets, learn to go to the biggest picture without getting lost on the periphery, and find the creative center from which to extend into the broadest view of the overall process. With Mars in Leo favorable to the Sag Lunation and opposed the Aquarian stellium, strength of heart coupled with imagination can bring forth unique revelations and show pathways beyond and around blockages.
As I noted last month and mentioned earlier, we've ended a long set of Lunations with Saturn in Virgo and are beginning a new way of viewing ideals and relationships. Follow your understanding of a greater vision or deeper understanding of transpersonal collective issues, ideals, and connectedness. Adjust to create a better world for yourself in connection with others, and open to a deeper understanding you've built with patience, persistent work, and long held aspiration.
The next 4 weeks will offer many opportunities to turn every opposition into multiple realizations and understandings helping us become good jugglers as we pursue the various objects of our curiosity. Read, write, communicate, and see things from many different points of view as you understand the basics of what will catapult forward in June 2010.
Keep renouncing false friends, ideals that only lead to drifting, and get oriented so you can be a pathfinder for yourself and others. Go for the humanitarian ideals shown by the Aquarius stellium, and get ready to pick up and deliver a form of higher power beginning late December.
Many will see how the wisdom forms and higher sense of spiritual service they've pursued have gestated into a power of broader and higher understanding. This continues to end a long cycle, and furthers the long wave transformation of individuals and humanity as a whole. Get a wider view, a sense of humor and objectivity, take the initiative, don't be afraid of what's coming up from your heart.
On a final note, given the focus is on Sagittarius, try to keep in mind that flexibility is a virtue in an Age in Transition, as is the ability to dance through the changes! Applaud yourself for being brave, open to a wider view of everything, and keep getting ready to leap into the void next Spring.

CHERISH:
If you do copy the URL for this discussion to your Facebook page, would you kindly omit my full name? I did not realize in typing my message that it would be included and would prefer it not be widely published given the personal nature of what I shared - i.e., to protect the innocent! Much thanks

Hi Micheline - Enjoy the play/creativity! It's a true opening.
Hi Pen - Sure. I decided to include NZ since I seem to have quite a few readers! I'd like to visit someday. I heard from an old friend with family there that it's extraordinarily beautiful!
Hi Jorge - You're most welcome, and a very Happy Solstice and Holiday season to you as well.
Hi Sean - Glad you're part of the community, and a Happy everything to everyone down under!
Hi WarriorLady - Yes, it seems to have opened some wonderful things already.
Hi Siri - Or maybe vegetables?;-) Dedication and compassion are good things to cultivate, since it leaves me with little time on my hands to get into trouble.....
Hi Elizabeth - This was not the comment stream to request that. Cherish can do nothing but post a link to the article. I deleted your last name via my control panel.
This is a good example of why I make it very clear in the "guidelines for commenting" that unless you want your name to be found via google or the dozens of other places that re-post my material, DO NOT put anything in the comment you don't want the world to find. I do try to protect those who come here so they may express what's on their hearts and minds without unfortunate blowback.
