We have entered a one week period when we will experience an extremely rare configuration, that of interlocking Yod or Finger of God configurations involving the planets and signs mentioned. This shows many sacrifices squeezing us into multiple productive expansions.
A few weeks ago I explained how the Yod, or "Finger of God," works its peculiar magic in the article Astrology Class - The Yod, or Finger of God - What is it, and how does it work? To refresh you on the basics, from the article:
A Yod, or Finger of God, is a configuration consisting of two planets in sextile with a third at their inverse midpoint, creating two quincunxes to the planets in sextile. A sextile is a 60 degree angle showing productivity and a natural structural soundness. Think snowflakes, or hexagonal crystal structures in nature. In a Yod the planets in sextile form a strong productive base for growth in whatever signs and houses they occupy. This productive base grounds the quincunxes. The planet focusing the double quincunx is a point of major adjustment and sacrifice of something, whether for practical purposes or idealistic correction, so something else can move forward.
Thus the planet at the inverse midpoint is very important as a focus point for the productive sextile energies. Given that the quincunx is an aspect of "hard adjustment," the fact that there are two quincunxes gives rise to the meaning of the Yod, which is "expansion through sacrifice."
Not just one sacrifice, but multiple sacrifices due to the two quincunxes. So it's a configuration of multiple sacrifices and adjustments squeezing out whatever isn't in the nature of the productivity and whatever cannot be contained in or focused through the nozzle planet.
When you're done here, please go to the article quoted for even more elaboration on how Yods work.
What's happening now is fairly rare, in that we have TWO Yods at work, and they interlock! This is a phenomenal interweaving of several distinct energies, equally powerful, and usually productive of intensified Spiritual function involving planetary duality lessons.
The current configurations involve Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in an Escher-like interaction. On the one hand, we have the very powerful Jupiter in Pisces sextile Pluto in Capricorn. These are both quincunxed by Mars in early Leo. The second Yod is formed by Mars in Leo sextile Saturn in Libra with both of these quincunxed by Jupiter in Pisces.
In the Jupiter sextile Pluto Yod, the focus "points the Finger" through the Mars. In the Mars sextile Saturn, the focus "points the Finger" through Jupiter. These multiple "expansion through sacrifice" energies work simultaneously with the other aspects also affecting each of these planets, including the very powerful Saturn square Pluto.
How these work separately and together could fill many pages, so I cannot elaborate on how these will affect our individual charts. That said...
The areas of your life inhabited by Leo and Libra, Capricorn and Pisces, show parts of your life where you can apply yourself productively. As Mars, Jupiter and Saturn show socio-cultural lessons and opportunities, we're all offered some productivity in the houses occupied by those signs. Pluto continues to purify the houses where we have Capricorn, so we'll learn whether we like it or not.
The areas of focus are Mars in Leo and Jupiter in Pisces. Wherever these fall in our charts are areas where we're being squeezed productively. This is where "the Fingers of God" are pointed. These planets show the dualities being tested.
Also, since these two happen to be in waxing quincunx, it shows the two Fingers are in a relationship of adjusting to prepare us for a smoother self expression when Mars moves forward into Virgo and Libra this Summer. That begins a whole new Mars-Saturn cycle, which is an article for another time.
Here's a brief summation for astrologers who want to investigate further: In Yods, sextiles provide productivity between those planetary functions, with hard adjustments to all three due to the two quincunxes. The expression comes through the "nozzle" planet which is trying to express the sextile energies but must sacrifice some things associated with the base planets to squeeze the productive energies through in a focused way. In all cases, examining whether the quincunxes are waxing or waning will show how the base planets in sextile are affected relative to the nozzle planet.

These yods are affecting me in houses 2, 4, 7 and 9. It actually helps some to think of my recent relationship "drama" as being a sacrifice made for the sake of future expansions. I will keep breathing and working to stay positive. Thanks, Robert.

I am intrigued reading this, and facing the next few days. On Valentine's Day, this configuration really lights up my chart, with Mars exact conjunct my Uranus, Saturn exact on my Descendant, and Pluto conjunct my midheaven. Mars will be in my 5th and Jupiter is in my 12th. An interesting time, no doubt.
Thank you for all that I am learning by reading your blog regularly.

Hi Robert,
I was as usual anxiously waiting for this post on the Yods. As we were discussing the other day, I've got Pluto at 5Virgo35, Jupiter at 7Aquarius06 and Chiron at 6Pisces39. On the 11th Jupiter will exactly oppose my natal Pluto. Mars and Saturn form a Yod with my Chiron. Mars just opposed my natal Jupiter. I've got Mars at 13Leo, so Mars went retro over natal Mars. So basically, these interlocking Yods involve the same planets I've got on my natal chart, and the most remarkable is that I've got Pluto sextile Mercury with both quincunx Jupiter, although Pluto and Jupiter form a tighter quincunx than Jupiter Mercury (3Cancer).
Ever since the first Saturn/Pluto square happened last October, I have created something, but it was only in the past few days that realised the mission and the purpose behind the creation, now I'm looking forward to the next final square because it should put some final touches and bring some new elements to be added to this project.
I must say that there has been a couple of "sacrifices" in a way, but these were not insanely difficult ones. As a matter of fact, I have noticed that the quincunxes force you to let go of something that is malfunctioning anyway, so it is not that difficult to come to terms with it. I've also noticed over the years that in some cases, those sacrifices can be just temporary ones, when you are forced to abandon some plans but they can be picked up some time later again.

Question Robert; Pluto in the 12th/Jupiter in the 1st/Mars conjunct Mars in the 7th/ Saturn in the 8th....am facing a business partnership question and not sure if I should stay or branch off on my own. I feel a destiny call here and started to feel fresh energy and a more independent role at the Center but now I'm wondering if I need to make a break completely. If this is too much for a commentary, perhaps another reading? The lease comes up for signing in April.
Great piece by the way!

Hi Robert,
I love your blog - I read it everyday! I am curious where I can expect changes in my chart...where do I look for this information?
Thanks!

Hello Robert - What would this mean for the intermediate stage for someone who has just passed on during this configuration, I truly don't know where to start in figuing out but it would be helpful to know. We will choose to view this as a positive occurance, especially with Venus conjunct Neptune. However, if you can lend me some direction, we'd be grateful on what difficulties this loving spirit might incur. Thank you. Yeshe

Hi, Robert! How are you? I have always been curious about this yod thingamaagigy...
Hahaha.
Its been a rough few months for me. All my anger that has been hiding away and festering has come out. I think that might have something to do with the mars in the 12th house. Since I have my ac in leo that does not help. But in away I think I am starting to see what is under all this anger finally.
At first, all I could do was express. I could not control any of the emotions coming out. It has been crazy and then in my expressing I forgot that other people have to deal with me. I have had to put the brakes on really hard big time. I needed to back up, park this car and look under that lamborghini. Ya if I was a car I would definetely be a lamborghini.
So, now I am examining the engine trying to find out what is wrong with it and how to fix it and how to make it run smoothly again. Wow, today I am full of metaphors hahaha.
Okay, sorry I am on tangent here.
I have a couple of questions to ask to clarify some of the things you say in your article here. I can understand it well enough. I would consider myself an amateur astrologer. I still have a lot to learn though.
anyway
the two yods
okay the one yod
with jupiter (transiting my 7th house) sextile to pluto (transiting my 5th house) being quincunxed by mars in leo (transiting my 12th house) right?
then the other yod
has mars in leo (transiting my 12th house) sextile to saturn (transiting the my 2nd house) being quincuxed by jupiter (transiting my 7th house) right?
okay great
i got that right i think?
did i?
okay i get it i think
i reread and reread
and reread
thanks Robert
this week started off very crazy for me
and now i am seeing how i can make it work better and how to deal with it

Interesting to think about all the current participating planets in this crucial(?) era. Capricorn, Pisces +Aries make sense to me...but what's with the Libra?..esp in Saturn. What do you think this scale planet is for? For justice? For reviewing law? For plastic surgery? For art? For balancing two sides of energy in overall transition happening in this era???

Hi Robert, and other bloggers.
I'm a frequent flier here too. I get lost in some of the jargon but have a slight idea. Anyway, I decided to post today because I am feeling the effects of the Yod very strongly and was relieved to read here that I'm not the only one. I can relate to Yeshe. I have had some very deep seated emotional issues which have once again popped up causing a relationship drama. (Just in the past week, culminating this morning). It HAS in fact "forced" me to sacrifice the relationship in order to "look under my car" too. Only I'm look much more deeply than ever.I hope that the results of the effects of this rare double Yod will help me tear down and rebuild.
Thank you all, your informatio and input has been enlightening.
I'm not as alone as I thought.
Blessed Be.

P.S.
I'm a 2/3/64 Aquarian with Aquarius rising, moon in Libra, Venus (and 2nd house) in Pisces and Jupiter in Aries. My Mars and Saturn are in Aquarius as well. Hmmm. Robert is there a way to find out how the Yod and Mars in Leo periods are affecting my chart, and especially what Jupiter in Pisces this year might yield in my second house?
Thanks again.

Hi daz - Yes, it's these obscure but powerful passing configurations that often determine the "in-betweens."
Hi Siri - Some adjustments and sacrifices are more boon than bondage! By squeezing out that which is not productive to our intentions, we make the space to use wisely in fulfilling those intentions.
Hi Alice - Expect the next two years to be very Uranian, and seek a proper balance in your relationships! Neither control nor be controlled, and you could find yourself beginning a long rise to influence. You're most welcome.
Hi Alix - Sounds like you're in the heart of energies you are already familiar with! Yes, I agree that quincunxes usually only force adjustments and sacrifices in things that need those. You're also on target that to defer is not to abandon. I regard quincunxes as either a chiropractic adjustment or a needed cleansing. You'll find much on track by late April.
Hi Sue Moon - Yes, this is too intricate and important to do in a comment stream. It may be a matter of just a few minutes to figure it out, but it's really not grist for a public forum.
Hi Danielle Jones - Well, what you want involves you learning some astrology and/or consulting someone who knows astrology, whether an amateur or professional. Of course, there are sites out there willing to charge you money for reports. Everything depends on what you want. Regarding what I've discussed here, look to the houses where these planets are, and see how the energies are focused through the nozzle planets.
Hi Yeshe - It could mean many things. I would think it could only have a positive "meaning" for those no longer trapped in a body, though they would have to still inhabit this "sphere" for it to have any significance whatsoever. Some times are good times to die, since in this case it could show a future incarnation as a great Spiritual Being demonstrating the spiritual qualities of these interlocking Yods.
Hi Micheline - You're closing out an old cycle, and getting to some universals as well as getting a chance to re-edit the movie of your life. While the vehicle is in the shop, all we can do is take a good walk and wait for the master mechanic to offer up the verdict and the cure. Right on both Yods if that's where those planets fall in your chart.
Hi ev - Saturn in Libra could be good for all you mentioned, as long as the dominion part is functioning stronger than the slavery part of Saturn's dual function. It's why issues of fairness are so prominent right now, whether we're discussing bankers, or Congressional points of view, or whatever....
Hi larry - Glad you found your way here.
Hi Orenda - Well, I write for all levels of understanding, so as long as you get the gist, it's all good. Very glad you chose to comment, since yes, these energies are affecting us all in many ways. Hopefully what you're letting go of will create the space for better things to be built in the future. This year should be great for you, and a prelude for larger things to come in 2011. There is always more to discuss regarding Mars in Leo in a chart, as well as what Jupiter will bring, but that's way beyond the scope of this comment stream. That's why people have personal sessions done.
Hi Sue Moon - Don't know. In fact, I don't know why the icons began to be posted to begin with!! I'm sure they can be changed via Facebook or MSN or something, but that's also beyond the scope of this stream.....

Robert, thank you for comment. Yes, I can see what you are saying here for sure. I am getting a second chance to rewrite. Especially, I think in regards to how mars in leo has been applying a certain pressure to that area of my life or my psyche. All that anger that has been stored up inside and I had to figure out or have had to figure out to redirect it so that I would not hurt anyone especially not myself. What is interesting is that I just saw an Aquarian horse friend of mine the other night and we had not seen each in a while. She mentioned that on the same night that I had this freak out (i woke up thursday morning like maybe about 2am here in Tokyo) with such a rage of anger, partly it was fustration that I had been experiencing due to some troubles that i was experiencing with someone I have been seeing now for five months and it is not his fault, just he having some real difficulties with his current job and because I have never experienced this with a person before. I was having all my trust issues and everything come out. I really did not handle myself well.
I think he is surprised that I have been so patient. We both had a weird experience in the middle of the night. She woke up and could not sleep at all (this is very odd for her) for me it was more of the 12th house stuff. Here is what is so strange. When I woke up the again on Thursday am to finally get up and start the day. I felt like a huge big black cloud was leaving me. That is the image I had in my head. Interesting huh?
Well, on my way to higher love and healing my soul wounds. I don't have many but they are deep and let them fester was not my choice. It is hard to peel away the layers and layers of or lift the veils away.
Getting better at this and working through it all is the most important for becoming more balanced and healed.
I feel my power and my magic coming back slowly.

Hi Robert, glad i found your blog thanks to Justine on Facebook. I have a ripper Yod with Mercury Venus at the reaction point. saturn is the focal planet and i totally agree with your interpretation from the previous article on Yods. sacrifice is a major issue in my life. i spent most of my working life serving others in mental health and aged care. taking repsonsibility is a big theme with saturn. i have have sole responsibility for my 3 young kids.
now in my early 40's i find the more positive manifestations of the Yod energy working. starting to express myself thought the reaction point mercury venus.
a great key to understanding an individual Yod is to use midpoint analysis. Noel Tyl doesn't use the word Yod, but his interpretations of this "midpoint structure" are excellent. i've quoted him in an article about the manifestation of this double Yod you are talking about here: The Astrology of Google Buzz. http://funkastrology.co.uk/?p=1739
"Mars=Jupiter/Pluto is appreciated this way: applied energy is fulfilled by/within leadership perspective, including much publicity, organizing talents and desire for success."
Excellent blog Robert, now to find the subscribe button!

Hello Robert!
I am very new to your site and also very confused! :) I have been reading extensively and I think my brain hurts! ;)
I was born 9/25/60 in Rochester, NY, USA at 8:52 a.m. When I looked at my chart, I saw not one but perhaps two Yods???
I have been having a very difficult time in the past 3 years with the last year becoming almost unbearable, especially since last October due to an ex-partner born March 13, 1958 at 5:22 p.m. in Rochester, NY and his new partner born March 30, 1960 at 4:24 p.m. in Rochester, NY.
My ex-partner moved out on 9/19/09 and that very week her husband moved out. They met on 10/5/09, told each other they loved each other 10 days later and have not spent a night apart since. She is selling her house (put it on the market 2/1/10).
Quite frankly, they are driving me insane with their drama. She insisted on meeting our 8 year old son within 3 months "to strengthen her relationship with my ex".
I plan on scheduling a personal reading but could you give me any idea of what is happening? I am very concerned for my son (who I have custody but he has visitation). My son's data is 2/23/01 in Rochester, NY at 7:53 p.m. Do you do readings for individuals like me where all these others are involved?
My apologies for airing my dirty laundry here if this an inappropriate place to do so.

Hi Micheline - This Mars RX has helped many get in touch with lurking or unfinished frustration and/or anger! Me too.... I've done what I could to further movement without pushing the river, and keep letting go of goop without too much attachment to suffering it, letting go of it, not letting go of it, and all the other passing momentary illusions of reality. I believe all we can do is our best given the circumstances. In my 12th, Mars has been bringing up a lot of old memories and bringing back a lot of old friends. I regard this as a long term closure period preparing me for new action when it again crosses my Asc in April. Till then, yes, I also am experiencing "my power and my magic coming back slowly."
Hi Jamie - Welcome to the roadhouse/cantina. Yes, over the decades I've taught that quincunxes force adjustments and movement we might call "sacrifice." The waxing ones are somewhat different than the waning ones, but they're all still indicative of health issues (whether our own, another's, or the public) on one level or another. Noel Tyl is one of the better astrologers out there. I don't know if there's a subscribe button for this blog, but by all means keep coming back!
Hi Bambina - A heartfelt welcome to you as well. I took a look at your birthday, and see no natal Yods unless you're seeing something I'm not (I didn't calculate your Asc). There is a Yod from transiting Uranus to your natal Venus sextile Uranus. There may be a progression but I didn't examine them.
Sorry you've been having a hard time. You're right in that this is not exactly the right forum to express intimate details since they will be picked up by google. It's not that we don't share here, but no one should post anything they don't want the world to read about! I can certainly cover many things in a personal session, but don't usually go into others' charts except tangentially since the reading should focus on you and what you can do to navigate your current situation. That said, I would be glad to offer some helpful suggestions re: your son and how best to help him through this transition.

Hi Robert!
Thanks for your so spot on as usual assessment, this was indeed a chiropractic adjustment, and it didn't make itself wait very long, I got dismissed from my job yesterday, it was a casualty of the Yods, and taking into account that the energies in play have to do with my own Yod, it doesn't come as a surprise that once I realised I was on the wrong track, I got freed from those duties that didn't make much sense in my life anyway. Survival is still a concern though, and I wonder how the Universe will provide for me in exchange for this sacrifice...
