This Full Moon falls at 10 degrees Pisces-Virgo, which fulfills the seed of the past Grand Irrationality New Moon in Aquarius. This period will help us achieve benevolent closure on many things, and by our expanding dedications we shall know what we've transcended. Unique gifts are in the air, as well as a sense that things are about to move in dramatically new directions!
This practical and compassionate Full Moon falls on 28 February at 8:38 am PST, 11:38 am EST, and 4:38 pm Greenwich (1 March in East Asia.) A quick look finds 30 Aries rising in Santa Monica, 1 Taurus rising in Vancouver, 22 Gemini in Washington DC, 25 Gemini in Rio, 1 Virgo in London, 5 Virgo in Amsterdam, 10 Virgo in Berlin, 11 Virgo in Johannesburg, 20 Virgo in Tallinn, and 20 Virgo in Istanbul.
Moving into Asia and the Pacific, we find the Ascendants to be 1 Scorpio in New Delhi, 6 Scorpio in Trivandrum, 26 Scorpio in Bangkok, 5 Sagittarius in Hong Kong, 21 Sagittarius in Tokyo, 30 Sagittarius in Perth, 28 Capricorn in Melbourne, 30 Capricorn in Canberra, 30 Capricorn in Brisbane, 23 Aquarius in Wellington, and 7 Pisces rising on Maui.
Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out The New Moon in Aquarius - What's Happening February and March 2010? This article can help focus what blessings and seeds are being released in the world over the next two weeks.
This continues a pattern of the recent few months where the Full Moon falls in a different sign than the previous New Moon. This implies that this 2 week period of fruition of the seeds of the previous lunation in many ways anticipates what is to come. That is because the Sun sign of this Full Moon will also be the sign of the coming New Moon on February 13, 2010, at 26 Pisces (which happens to be the Uranus of this Full Moon!)
This phenomenon of the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepare the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of lunations works the opposite way.
For astrologers who may be interested, we last had New Moons in the same sign axis as the subsequent Full Moon May 2008 through June 2009. Beginning July 2009 and lasting through September 2010, we have the Sun of the Full Moon in the sign following the Sun of the New Moon.
Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon. We will again have the Sun of the New Moon in the same sign as the Sun in the following Full Moon from October 2010 through May 2012, after which it again reverses function.
This Full Moon falls at the 10th degree of Virgo and Pisces. It is said that the first third of any sign deals with the physical, material, and personal levels of life, and being the first decan of those signs, invokes a sub-influence of Virgo and Pisces. Since the Moon always focuses the light of the Sun in specific forms, the degree symbols for both are important. The Sun degree is the illumination or enlightenment of the lunation, whereas the Moon shows us the potential forms that enlightenment will take.
The Solar degree Sabian Symbol is "An aviator in the clouds." This is a degree of transcending usual problems, and gaining higher responsibilities as a result of the skills we've mastered. It is a degree of "consummation of the highest ideals" and "coronation." We are told this symbolizes our "ability to develop powers and skills which by transcending natural limitations" allow us "to operate in mental-spiritual realms."
Rudhyar says this degree is one of synthesizing our dedication to a community and asserting our ambition to reach some sort of social goal. We are told we can master difficulties through transcending our limitations and any narrow local conditions. We can become individuals "in command of powerful energies," and also "heir to the industry of countless innovators and managers."
Dr. Jones says the keyword is OBSERVATION and when positive it's said to be a degree of "special competence in whole judgment and long-range planning." So this Full Moon will demonstrate the light of our mastery arising from our dedication and resolve leading us to higher responsibilities.
We are told this degree is one of "transcendental powers of comprehension," where our "exploratory genius" can help us find the hypotheses we need for solving problems. Here we are able "to take a perspective superior to any... pattern of limitation," and examine any "complex of human affairs" with a "consistent thoroughness of overview."
The formula is Sustaining, Practical, Universal, Specializing, Social, and Inspired. Rudhyar states the degree is in the Span of Innocence, in the Social-Cultural level of Federation.
The Lunar degree symbol is "Two heads looking out and beyond the shadows." This is a degree where we find "competence in understanding" through our "consciousness functioning in inner and outer realms." We are also told it is one of over-sensitivity to "life currents."
Rudhyar comments that this phase is where we see "the growth of true understanding" from transcending dualities even while navigating them. Here we can find a view that all dualities are just poles of "one Reality which sustains and encompasses all dualistic modes of existence" and look away from the conflicts and "the shadows these conflicts generate." This is the mind transcending polarizations and conflicts to find the pure light of a non-dual view, however paradoxical or impossible that seems.
Dr. Jones says the keyword is INTELLIGENCE and when positive it's said to be a degree of effective judgment and "a superb capacity for seeing both sides in every given issue," bringing all the various phases of any activity to a unity of purpose. We find it is a degree of "transcendental powers of comprehension" offering an ability to "reduce all knowledge to exact and efficient formulas." This combines the genius of "stereoscopic reason" with "exceptional mechanical sense in... practical realms."
The formula is Sustaining, Practical, Efficient, Specializing, Social and Inspired. Rudhyar states the degree is in the Span of Experimentation, and the Individual-Mental level of Characterization.
From these symbols it seems that for the next two weeks we can move into higher realms we have already learned to master, showing the light of greater comprehension through our genius for finding a broader view. This will express as a "formulaic knowledge" showing how to use our "mechanical abilities" to find the common purpose across a wide variety of experience.
Here we illuminate and integrate a synthesis of life becoming a form of mastery in a blessed, compassionate, expansive possibilities. We can get beyond the dualities of the past at the end of a larger cycle (Sun conjunct Jupiter in Pisces) and find practical and efficient forms of prioritizing the actions needed to achieve a vision, reward, or wider opportunity of life experience.
We can see the light of our need for closure, compassion and forgiving release, which will bring forth new practical forms of self expression. This period will distribute the stabilized ideals of the past Aquarius New Moon which stabilized the new initiatives of the Capricorn New Moon Solar Eclipse.
This New Moom activates the Grand Irrationality energies of the past Full Moon, as Mars makes very close triseptiles to both Neptune and Pluto. I've addressed this in Mars in Leo Triseptile Neptune and Pluto Triggering the Grand Irrationality in February-March 2010. This makes for important choices and actions wherever Mars falls in our charts. Expect things to combust fairly soon!
The major influence in this lunation is the Sun conjunct Jupiter with Moon opposed Jupiter. Even though these aspects are barely separating, the Sun is in fact "cazimi" Jupiter, which is more powerful than even being "combust." Here Jupiter is in the "heart of the Sun" and the two energies are for all practical purposes fused.
This will allow many to find closure to old ways of life and personality, and begin a quest through subtle and/or subconscious realms for a more significant purpose or way to serve their world. Tests could include keeping the momentum in your own hands, finding ways to integrate our sensitivity with our imagination, find new forms of self expression, and get cooperation without sacrificing our freedom to act as we need to.
We must be discriminating in our use of force, not presume anything or get lost in too much going on, and find a central order within to integrate our breadth of interests. Examine what service your inner humanitarian might embrace, and get clear about doing just enough, but not taking on too much.
Other aspects of importance are Venus conjunct Uranus and Uranus barely separating from a binovile to Pluto. Other than these, there are no forming aspects in the chart among the visible planets other than the relatively obscure "11th harmonic" aspects made between the Sun conjunct Jupiter and Pluto.
Venus conjunct Uranus in Pisces may bring abrupt or unexpected closures or karmic returns. It will definitely bring renovation or revolution to our Taurus and Libra sectors if we can ground our higher standards in our everyday lives. This is about living a new life order, and bringing a more refined or spiritual quality to our life.
To note, separating aspects show things that have already happened in the past, which is why I don't stress them in these lunation chart evaluations. Included among the separating aspects are Sun-Jupiter sextile Pluto, Moon trine and Venus quintile Pluto, Saturn square Pluto and biquintile Neptune, Mercury conjunct Neptune biquintile Saturn, and Mars sextile Saturn. All of these show things that occurred before now.
Since Jupiter rules the lunation, the dominant aspect in this Full Moon is the Sun conjunct Jupiter. This should be an extraordinarily compassionate and protective Full Moon, where we get blessed closure on many things. As the Sun is conjunct Jupiter, it also kicks off a period of 13 months when these specific energies are in play.
Though separating, Saturn square Pluto is still in play on the larger level showing us recent shifts, endings, and challenges to find our Dharma. I've explained how this very powerful frictional aspect works in many articles over the past several months. If you're wondering how the Saturn square Pluto affects you, please check the archives to find out how various birthdays and generations are affected by this major aspect in play for many months to come.
The squares release energies, challenge us to "square" ourselves with our true Self, or create friction allowing us to turn critical corners in the areas affected by the square. This major square affecting the entire world is most dynamically affecting those with planets in early Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, as well as 18-22 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
It will obviously most affect those born in late March, mid-May, late June, mid-August, late September, mid-November, late December, and mid-February. This aspect challenges us to bring bring new structure to our life and purpose while a larger disintegration is happening, get oriented to overcome any tendency to aimlessness or drifting, and by getting a profitable sense of direction, become a "pathfinder" or "one who shows the way" to others.
Also, though it's wide and out of sign, Saturn is getting closer and closer to its next opposition to Uranus, also explained in past articles. It's a powerful opposition of titans, so please go back into the archives of last Autumn to find out more about the next turn of the centrifuge that's returning to purify all of us yet another time in a few weeks.
Since it is a See Saw pattern, stay centered, and try not to get lost in the margins even while exploring the outer limits of the field. If you find yourself seesawing between views or energies, try to find the way to mediate between opposing views by finding the third or fourth points that harmonize the opposites.
This time helps us all end old ways and gain entrance to a broader level of observation and a greater level of practical effectiveness. In the midst of long wave destabilizations and imminent choices that will shape our destinies for a long time to come, here we can see how a "new day has dawned" and "go our own way," furthering our individuation.
We can move into the unknown by identifying with a larger life, and accept a collective role that allows us to be an inspiration through how we have overcome fear and separateness. By a process of excluding that which is not true for us, we can move into a symbiosis where the older, lesser, parts of our lives can offer up their energies to feed our greater future.
Since this is the Light of Pisces expressing through the forms of Virgo, say goodbye and/or forgive whatever you need to in practical forms that show you how you can better express Divine Discrimination. Consider this a rehearsal "before the beginning," and find hope while expressing your festive gratitude for that which nurtures you.
For astrologers, a final note regarding the chart finds Mercury, ruler of the Moon, in its exaltation sign of Aquarius. It is not in aspect to Jupiter, ruler of the Sun, in its home sign of Pisces. These are both natural and fortuitous placements for the rulers of the Moon and Sun.
Also of note is that Mercury is in a degree of "a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis," which is a degree of metamorphosis and potential "spiritual initiation." This is significant, since both Chiron and Neptune will be occupying that degree in months to come, promising all of humanity a huge "coming out." The next two weeks will bring signs and signals of what is to come.
As with the last several New Moons and Full Moons, this is the final phase of renewing the light of our "transpersonal" or spiritual Self. This will help us to see and feel a greater commonality in our collective Life. Many will tune in to the collective unconscious in forms that express Spiritual uniqueness and genius, showing us how to "go our own way," leaving behind authoritarian patterns while experiencing an "inner call to realization."
Given the continued focus of planets in Aquarius and Pisces, intuition and idealism will continue to be very high the next several weeks, as will the potential to transfigure your life and consciousness. Continue to say goodbye to whatever is hindering your individuation or courage in focusing your energies to express your Higher Self.
Choose wisely in the midst of the conflagratons and eruptions, keep finishing things while committing to greater visions, and find creativity and spontaneity in stable and creative forms of playful self expression.
The last New Moon helped us see how to demonstrate forms of Higher Power, and opened us to greater and vaster visions of group work, friendships, and world service. This Full Moon begins our transcendence of old dualities.
Those who open to a deeper wisdom, compassion, and non-separateness across space and time these next two weeks will find things quickening and becoming clearer within just a few days. These are the endings that clear the space for the new beginnings to come when both Uranus and Jupiter enter Aries in just over a dozen weeks. Since Jupiter is in Pisces, appreciation and gratitude will go a long way to healing whatever needs healing as we find new ways of seeing our experience and expressing compassion.
This is a time of fellowship, Brotherhood and Sisterhood. Find those kindred Souls you feel you're deeply connected with, and allow the fruit of Group Awareness to grow and ripen. Follow your ideas, visions, and insights into actions and decisions, and then stop to feel the direct experience, knowing the vastness of our connectedness with All-That-Is. Let go, bless and flow on into a greater vision, adventure, and quest than you've known for a while.
Transfigured understanding and technical abilities are in the air. Now is the time to move into a more compassionate individualism while leaving behind all that is not true for us at the deepest levels of our consciousness. Blessings and protection are all around as we stand on the threshold of endings and beginnings.

Hi Robert,
There's this one thing that intrigued me greatly about this full moon. As you know I live in London and this full moon has 0Virgo28 on the ascendant... that's conjunct my North Node at 0Virgo43. Could you advise me on how to read the influence this full moon is having in my life?

Robert,
This helped articulate all my triple-Virgo soul is feeling come to the surface and into its own time. So much love and gratitude for your service. Fascinating Sabian archetypes that resonate so deep along with the Jupiter expansions and Uranus/Venus right on my Desc. Mars direct soon before the equinox and Venus into Aries - what a month it shall be.
Infinite blessings upon you and your path through this threshold and transition - thank you,
Carson

Hi yeshe - You're most welcome.
Hi masero - We are all in this together, and perhaps by what we share here we help others to overcome fear and separateness. I also believe that enjoying the "journey of divinity" is necessary if we're to lead the type of life that brings us various kinds of fulfilling experiences.
Hi Alix - I believe the angles of a place basically influence the general atmosphere, and we each respond depending on how things line up in our chart. The planets would be the same in both cases, so only the angles of the location would be the variable. Perhaps what London's going through during these weeks will spur your line of greatest development, which is to cultivate Divine Discrimination and the ability to know the importance of salient features in any given circumstance. What you're realizing at this time will be activated in June.
Hi Carson - Thanks for your praise of the work. Though Marc Jones was very clear in his talks that we should not take the symbols literally, over the decades I've found them to be remarkable in their specificity of what's up personally and generically. Having studied symbology for many years, there is a wide range of potential ways any given symbol could manifest, but also when they do manifest it seems remarkably literal in some ways. You should have some very interesting and unique experiences coming to surface that will shift your relationships for years to come. Thanks for your blessings, and may your own work yield rewards for your persistence.
