This Full Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs at 5 degrees Cancer-Capricorn, promising several months of karmic adjustments, curbed recklessness, and decisions that will reorient us so we can mobilize ourselves and assert what we need to claim our personal authority. A lot will crash or change course with new structures showing up in August.
This Partial Lunar Eclipse falls at the 5th degree of Cancer-Capricorn on June 26th at 4:30 am PDT, 7:30 am EDT, 12:30 pm Greenwich. This Lunar Eclipse is a prelude to the much more powerful Total Solar Eclipse on July 11-12 at 20 Cancer which will affect the whole Earth. Both eclipses are shutting some old ways of life down forever (as all eclipses do), leaving us space to embrace new mutations that are coming on strong.
The Lunation finds 17 Gemini rising in Santa Monica, 25 Gemini in Vancouver, 26 Cancer in Washington DC, 3 Leo in Rio, 28 Virgo in London, 2 Libra in Amsterdam, 8 Libra in Berlin, 14 Libra in Tallinn, 16 Libra in Sofia, 21 Libra in Istanbul, and 4 Scorpio in Johannesburg.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find Ascendants at 5 Sagittarius in New Delhi, 12 Sagittarius in Trivandrum, 2 Capricorn in Bangkok, 11 Capricorn in Hong Kong, 30 Capricorn in Tokyo, 4 Aquarius in Perth, 30 Aquarius in Melbourne, 4 Pisces in Brisbane, 24 Pisces in Wellington, and 27 Aries rising on Maui.
Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out New Moon in Gemini. This article can help focus what blessings and seeds are being released in the world over the next two weeks.
This continues a pattern of the recent few months where the Full Moon falls in a different sign than the previous New Moon. This implies that this 2 week period of fruition of the seeds of the previous lunation in many ways anticipates what is to come. That is because the Sun sign of this Full Moon will also be the sign of the coming New Moon Total Solar Eclipse on July 11, 2010, at 20 Cancer.
This phenomenon of the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepare the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of lunations works the opposite way.
For astrologers who may be interested, we last had New Moons in the same sign axis as the subsequent Full Moon May 2008 through June 2009. Beginning July 2009 and lasting through September 2010, we have the Sun of the Full Moon in the sign following the Sun of the New Moon.
Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon. We will again have the Sun of the New Moon in the same sign as the Sun in the following Full Moon from October 2010 through May 2012, after which it again reverses function.
This Lunar Eclipse will shine a light on what must be curbed that would interfere with recent important life decisions, and externalize as a mobilization of our assertiveness. We can see what we care about, what nurtures us, and what disciplined forms we'll need to cultivate.
We will learn about our social obligations which will take form as a forceful awakening to reality, so be ready to exert yourself appropriately. Given that the Sun is in Cancer in both this Lunar Eclipse and the coming Solar Eclipse on July 11-12 at 20 Cancer, we'll see the end of things from our past that were once parts of our daily life.
The Umbral magnitude of this Lunar Eclipse is a bright .537, and its Umbral duration is 2 hours, 43 minutes (Penumbral duration totals 5h22m). This implies that its effects will be felt through mid-September, 2010. It is completely visible in the Pacific Ocean, visible at Moonrise in India, China, Japan, SE Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and visible at Moonset in most of Canada and the US (except for eastern Canada and New England), Central America, and South America.
This Lunar Eclipse will begin a several month "shut down" in the houses it occupies in our charts. Given that it occurs just after the Sun has triggered the very powerful Cardinal T-square and in the heart of Mercury following that light into another sequence of T-square activity, whatever has been jarred loose recently is about to yield valuable insights and information that should help us coordinate even more important follow-up decisions.
These T-squares will challenge us to use Libra energy productively. As we do so, our lives will be shaped in long term ways, since Mars and Saturn transit Libra in August, giving active form and structure to what we're challenged to demonstrate over the next few weeks.
So the light of some kind of decision to reorient will yield multiple forms of understanding that will move us away from some things and people forever and forcefully awaken us to demonstrate our sensitivity to our obligations. Lies and deceptions will be in the air over the next few weeks, but so will the power to bust them. Just keep your focus on truth, and don't necessarily believe everything you're told.
We'll see what we need to release or demonstrate associated with this Lunar Eclipse as prelude to the bigger, longer-term endings to be set into motion at the coming Solar Eclipse. So like most Lunar Eclipses, this one also ushers in a transitional period of about a dozen weeks that will clear things out of our lives, and especially our past (the Moon), so we can continue to get skills helping us deal with the wild ride of the Cardinal squares of 2009-2010-2011-2012-2013.
Though these eclipses accent the Cancer and Capricorn sectors, remember that elements of past Aquarius eclipses will still be active for some time to come, due to Chiron and Neptune continuing to transit degrees in late Aquarius activated by the 2008-2009 Eclipses. It may be useful to regard Jupiter's time in Aquarius in 2009 as having offered us greater teachings, protection, and possibilities associated with the Aquarian endings portended by those eclipses.
All the occupied points from the past few Solar Eclipses will factor into the intense Aquarian changes and manifestations occurring over the next few years. After you're done here, if you want to go deeper into understanding the Eclipse effects you may or may have known were happening, please re-visit what I wrote about the 2008 and 2009 Aquarius eclipses in the archives.
In part two of this series, we'll go into various elements of this eclipse, and how it will manifest these next two months. It is sure to dynamically affect anyone with an Ascendant or planets in the first 10 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn (especially the first 5!) due to the wide span of degrees occupied by planets in this eclipse. It will also provide productive opportunities and understandings to those with planets in the same degrees of Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, and Pisces, as well as unique gifts or circumstances for those with sensitive points at 15-17 Pisces and Virgo and 21-23 Aries and Libra.
Those with an Ascendant or planets in the late degrees of the signs will also be heavily affected in both productive and frictional ways due to the Saturn quincunx Neptune in this eclipse. For most of us, the challenge will be to identify with a larger life, get inspired, get to work, and through exploring natural forces at play, let go of old mysteries and demonstrate new revelations. I'll explain more in part 2.

Hi Robert and thank you as always for your insights. I am sun sign 5 degrees Cancer, rising 11 degrees Gemini,Moon zero degree Sag, Venus 20 degrees Taurus, Saturn 6 degrees Taurus.
Tomorrow is my birthday and was also supposed to be our first year wedding anniversary, but we are already separated. You talk a lot about being able to let go, make room for new things and intellectually I agree -- but because it is so painful emotionally I know I am not fully accepting it. It is not just mourning the loss, I have a stubbornness and clingyness of something I want so badly; yet all the evidence is saying that it is not good for me and I should let go.
What are practical examples of how to let go of a lifestyle or person or idea?

Hi Robert, I have read your forum for years but this is the first time I have responded. Uranus has just entered my eigth house along with Jupiter conjunct my natal Chiron and I have had a strong sense that my dad was going to pass when this time arrived and on Tuesday my dad passed away. I am from a large catholic family and my dad a great man was very old school and not this way of thinking at all - this eclipse - letting go of the old structures is very symbolic of what is happenning in our family now and so much grief. Thanks for all your insights.

Hi, Robert, great information as usual. Makes a lot of sense. I had that lunar eclipse on my mercury in cap in the 5th house. I am not sure if it would affect my sun/moon midpoint which is at 1 d cap. I wonder what to expect. I need to find some information. I will do some searching. Thanks a lot for this great article.
