The Autumnal Equinox occurs Sept 22, 2010, at 8:09 pm PDT (4:09 am Greenwich Sept 23) marking the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. It is said that a chart done for this point in time offers a snapshot of the cosmic and literal weather for the next 3 months.
Today is the last day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the last day of Winter in the Southern. There is an old tradition that offers us two times when "the year begins," one at the Vernal Equinox, the other at the Autumnal. Perhaps that tradition came from explorers who saw the seasons flip between the Northern and Southern, going from the beginning of warm to the beginning of cold as they moved up and down the latitudes.
This is an excellent time for looking at what has ended and what is emerging. We up North have done our Summer labor, and are reaping the harvest of what we've done and not done. In the Southern latitudes, they're beginning to plant the seeds that will grow over the next 180 days.
So if you're "down under," it's the beginning of Spring and beautiful weather. Just remember to have a little compassion for us up here when December 21-22, the Winter Solstice, rolls around and we're freezing while you're enjoying the beach!
Whether North or South, keep following through on the emergent archetypes you've already begun to live, since this is the time to transfigure our future into more perfect forms. Regardless of where we live, what follows explores elements we all can expect to experience over the next 13 weeks.
The Autumnal Equinox finds 1 Taurus rising in Santa Monica, 4 Taurus in Vancouver, 23 Gemini in Washington DC, 12 Gemini in Miami, 26 Gemini in Rio (23 Sept east of here), 2 Virgo in London, 5 Virgo in Amsterdam, 11 Virgo in Berlin, 20 Virgo in Tallinn, 17 Virgo in Sofia, 13 Virgo in Johannesburg, 22 Virgo in Cairo, and 21 Virgo in Istanbul.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find Ascendants at 2 Scorpio in New Delhi, 7 Scorpio in Trivandrum, 27 Scorpio in Bangkok, 6 Sagittarius in Hong Kong, 22 Sagittarius in Tokyo, 1 Capricorn in Perth, 29 Capricorn in Melbourne, 1 Aquarius in Brisbane, 24 Aquarius in Wellington, and 8 Pisces rising on Maui.
The charts for the Solstices and Equinoxes provide guideposts for what we can expect the following 90 days in the way of weather, both actual and symbolic. This Autumn Equinox chart shows all planets but one in the first or third decan of their signs. This indicates a three month period of activity involving the material, intellectual, and spiritual sectors of the signs, with not much on the social and cultural levels.
The nights will now begin to be longer than the days for 6 months to come. The Sun is now in Libra, promising enhanced and expanded relationships and social interactions. We can find new ideals, new ways of measuring and evaluating the balance in things, and new perspectives that offer us a well rounded understanding.
The outstanding quality of this Equinox chart is the Moon just a few hours before it's Full, conjunct Jupiter and Uranus at the very end of Pisces. This would imply that the coming 3 months will put the focus squarely wherever late Pisces falls in our charts. Recent polarizations will figure large in this season, with abundance for some amidst dissolving conditions, seeing how the parts related to the whole.
Expect continued closures, protection, blessings, compassion, and a sense of vastness along with unexpected events, revolutionary conditions, and some pretty strange upheavals. Definitely a good time to meditate, pray, forgive, let go, and move into the future with faith (no matter how weird it feels!)
The separating Solar oppositions to Jupiter and Uranus I wrote about two days ago are re-activated by the forming Lunar conjunction to them while also forming out-of-sign oppositions to the Sun and Saturn. (For those who are interested, this is an example of "translation of Light.")
This pulls together recent Virgo-Pisces issues and polarizations while anticipating the coming Full Moon at 1 Aries-Libra. Obviously this will illuminate and vitalize the emergent archetypes first glimpsed last Autumn, deepened in March, and launched in late July at the Mars conjunct Saturn at 1 Libra. You can find several articles outlining various Virgo-Pisces oppositions we've been dealing with for several years at the bottom of this one.
Pluto will again prove important in the coming season, as it does in the charts at every change of season during this time in history. That's because Pluto has been in very early Capricorn, and thus square, opposed, or conjunct the Sun at every Solstice and Equinox chart. This is the last one where it will be in very close square to the Sun.
These Sun-Pluto aspects have been challenging us all since 2007 to find confidence in the midst of chaotic conditions, and use self-discipline and deep insights to pioneer in new directions. If the Solstice and Equinox charts show the weather patterns to come, this chart would seemingly indicate some extremes on the way, especially when coupled with the previously mentioned oppositions and conjunctions involving the Moon, Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus!
A Sun square Pluto releases a lot of energy, and either blocks or propels events. That's because squares tend to put the brakes on some things, while indicating a "turning of a corner" in other things. Squares to Pluto often show things going out of control or something extreme happening that results in either a favorable purification or a grinding toxicity.
Given that Pluto is one of the anchors of The Grand Irrationality, when squared it releases a lot of energy precipitating situations that move people to make choices that propel them into their destiny. This of course began to roll forward in a huge way due to the recent Cardinal T-square involving Pluto, and now that the Sun is occupying Saturn's August position, we can definitely expect things related to that T-square to power up!
I wrote a bit about the Cardinal squares and oppositions to Pluto in my article on the Vernal (Spring) Equinox 2010. You can also find more by re-visiting The Coming Cardinal Squares and Crosses of Saturn in Libra, Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries 2009-2010-2011-2012-2013 which also has internal links to articles about each of the squares and oppositions and what they mean.
The planets in this chart are again in a See Saw Jones pattern, defined by the Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces energies on one side opposing the span of inner planets occupying Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio. The pattern is clearer if we subtract Pluto from the equation, but it still stays a force majure in itself, due to its conjunction with the North Node and anchoring the Grand Irrationality.
Where a SeeSaw pattern is present, stay focused and balanced at the center while taking note of the periphery of things, and don't get off on a tangent or limb. This offers a need to be able to see both sides of any given thing, especially where there are opposing trends or views. The strength is in an ability to triangulate to angles of approach beyond the polarity that allows for progress and understanding.
Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are all very strong in this Equinox chart, since the first 3 are in their home signs, while Saturn is exalted in Libra, showing its grounds for greatest growth. This makes Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter "final dispositors," showing they determine the backdrop energies generating types of movement according to their natures.
The number of conjunctions indicates a lot of fusion in various areas of our lives, as well as more complex experiences than if they were stand-alone planets. Only Mercury is not in a conjunction of some sort, but it is in its home sign and leads the one side of the SeeSaw, so it's still a very powerful force in the chart.
We shall all be very aware of details and communications as they lead us to practical ideas, views, and understanding. These will naturally lead to critical decisions about how to respond to the challenges of us becoming the emergent archetype we've already experienced.
The trick to keeping it all on track involves learning to name our feelings and experience of things as we lose some things while attracting others. Then feelings of closeness and belonging can arise after the actions we do in common with others. Many will experience the beginning of a new group awareness, consciousness, or sense of belonging over the next 90 days.
If you need to heal in some way, take note of the delicate feelings available, and commit to something that is valuable to you. The line of Greatest Development is to attune to the invisible world, and find harmony through detachment and understanding of subtleties.
The Sun conjunct Saturn indicates there is something to be "tamed," something to be strengthened, something to be protected, or some intelligent service to be done. Be clear and balanced about your duties and responsibilities, try not to get too critical or worried about things that can't be solved by your worrying, and be willing to use courage to go deeper into things, relationships, and experiences.
Some will experience great abundance, perfectly suited to their circumstances as elements of the larger reality fall apart. Try to feel a sense of satisfaction in anything that's passing or you're ending. Become your greater integrity as you view and use worldly things to find a sense of validation. This is a time when you can accomplish excellence through accuracy of judgment.
Aspects of note beside those already discussed include Venus septile Pluto (but not biseptile Neptune) and Mercury septile Mars and tredecile Pluto. Specializing influences include the Sun biquintile Neptune and Chiron (translating the now separating Saturn biquintile Neptune) and the Moon biquintile Mars (translating the separating Mars biquintile Jupiter and Uranus.)
The quantity of translation of light in this chart shows that recent developments we thought were past will come back at times over the next 90 days, but in highly specialized interactive ways. For those who chose to do "the hard stuff" in the recent past, the next 13 weeks will bring back much better results than before. For those who slacked off, expect unique conditions forcing you to deal with what you should have a while ago but didn't.
While the septiles involving Mercury, Mars, Venus and Pluto don't set the whole pattern of the Grand Irrationality into motion, we can still expect some pretty significant forks in the road of our lives wherever these planets fall. There will be major transmutations of energy, and some will find themselves breaking away from a past to embrace a new adventure.
The septiles between Venus-Pluto and Mercury-Mars are both waning. This indicates that events connected with these will form the seeds of related things to come even as sudden shifts and/or choices are made that are part of the old forms breaking apart. There are many points in the next 90 days where one or both of these will be activated.
The Venus septile Pluto energies should lead us to a greater connectedness and group participation. Key points in this cycle will occur September 28-30, October 5, 9, and 13-29, November 1-6, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25, 29, and December 1-18.
The Mercury septile Mars choices and changes will be triggered October 1, 5, 8-9, 12, 16, October 21-November 5, November 9, 13, 17, 21, November 26-December 7, December 10, 14, and December 17-21.
Venus, ruler of the Sun and Saturn in the Equinox chart, will be retrograde for a good deal of this period. It goes stationary retrograde at 14 Scorpio just after the New Moon at 11:44 am PDT on October 7 falling at 15 Libra. As Venus will rule that New Moon, you can bet the retrograde quality will be very pronounced from that point in time through early November.
Of note is that a week before and after it goes RX it will be septile Pluto, so expect that to be a very volatile time! As it also biseptiles Neptune, the Grand Irrationality will be in full force. I'll compose more about that in a week or so.
All of this seems to indicate a fairly inspired and dynamic time of choices and changes that will stabilize our energies and vitality, helping us withdraw from some things while moving us quickly into other things. We'll all be in a much different head and heart space by the time of the Winter Solstice on December 21st, 3:39 pm PST, 6:39 pm EST, 11:39 pm Greenwich time. To note, that Solstice happens just a few hours after the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse falling at 30 Gemini-Sagittarius.
So this season continues the endings indicated by the Moon conjunct Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces as we continue to make our new archetype of Being real. Expect things to be unique, a bit strange and even unreal at times, as you find a new perspective and rhythm of action in the social realm. Tune in and commit to a greater ideal.
As already noted, we should be able to receive rewards as we close out old conditions. Keep finding deeper compassion and/or understanding, and allow yourself to be drawn to people and situations that point the way to Spiritual group work.
Aum and blessings as we stand on the threshold of a new season of life!

I have been watching Jupiter in the sky for a few weeks now. It is very bright and prominent. Last night you could see the Full Moon moving closer to Jupiter. Tonight should be awesome to watch the Moon conjunct Jupiter. I would encourage everyone to go outside, look at the sky. Imagine what your ancestors were looking at before computers and ephemerides.

A sense of vastness...yes, there is something in that, or "in betweeness"..that good old liminal state.
Truly, I feel "not here, not there", too edgy to just sit, but too wary about trying to "make things happen".
Not at the beach--a gray day in Melbourne.
Don't think I did the 'hard stuff', just too tired to deal with certain types who demand small victories at the expense of others. But could this be the "hard stuff" wrapped up in a neighbourly disguise?
I still fear "greed is not dead"--only sleeping.
We are expecting a plague of locusts next week--no, I am not joking, or being 'biblical'.
First there was drought, then bushfires, then floods, now 'hoppers'. I am still very worried about the bees.
I obviously need to embrace one Aries. Come to think of it, last night I dreamt that i was floating on the sea. It was warm but I felt it should be cold. I also wondered why i was able to float because I was wearing all my heavy clothes...think I just got it.
Don't mind me

To Dianne M, I originally came from Melb. In my dreams I'm usually striving to get into the water, but usually get distracted. This a.m. dreaming I happily ran into the waves and body surfed 2 in. I woke really happy I had made it! Happy Solstice all! I will definitely be watching the moon rising over the Aussie bush.

Things are definitely getting better. New life. New direction. Thank you again for all of your good work, Robert.

Oh body surfer, you make my heart sing at the thought. Body surfing was always worth the sand in my drawers.
Am gonna have to take a look at hopper life history. Was/is very wet in the midwest US this summer/and looks like this fall, too. There were very few hoppers, come to think of it.
The down under rap is great fun. Thanks for the uplift on this morn of torrential rains.

Robert, that Libra Mars/Saturn July launch write is dead on. "Destructive energies" oh yeah. I'll spare you the sordid details of the "HUH? WHAT?" experiences. Probably like the "wrapped up in disguise" behaviors DianneM mentioned. Like usual, you rock.

Thanks Caliban I love that. "A body surfer of Life's waves" ! Um I think I might find me a Queensland beach on this equinox morn. A good 1 to you.

Hi Jen, you kind of put a twist on my reminiscence of life on the US west coast. Got an opportunity to utilize your imagery last night. Didn't mean to, just happened. I was reminiscing about a past unpleasant event that is so past it is no longer relevant. But I got this nauseous queazy feeling at the hint of it. Then everything got wavy. And your post came back to me. Body Suuuuuuuuuuurf! Rode the waves and ended up on the shore of NOW. Even got an added bonus, a 60 second cry. Was a nice ride.
