Today is the last part of what the December 2010 Sagittarius-Gemini Lunar Eclipse holds for our world. Overall the effect would seem to show gifts at the end of the end of a long term Uranian phase while challenging planets we have in mid-Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.
As this article builds on themes introduced in the first two parts of this series, you may want to re-read them before reading this one, since I discuss various critical elements of the Eclipse chart. You can find the links at the bottom of this article.
We pick up the narrative by examining key elements of the eclipse. Of crucial importance is to remember this is all coming down in the next 5+ months, which obviously affects all that follows. That said, remember that Solar Eclipses have a much longer duration of influence than Lunar Eclipses. Solar Eclipse effects last years instead of the few weeks or months when Lunar Eclipse effects dominate.
To recap some of the primary themes: for the next 5 1/2 months we'll see the light of higher Truths focusing through diverse forms, ideas, and higher standards of living. The numerous separating squares clearly show that we've all been spun in new directions, offered new potentials, and found unique forms of our genius or specialized qualities through peculiar circumstances.
We still have some things to review, or fulfill, or old business to deal with in our houses and planets involving Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces due to the forming square of Mercury retrograde to Jupiter in Pisces. Over the next 24 weeks, those most influenced by this square will be those with planets and sensitive points between 24-29 degrees of the signs just mentioned. This square can result in shifts in perspective that show new directions and a greater empathy and ability to see things as others see them while staying true to their deepest motives.
This square will reveal the essence of things and visions of a beckoning future, as well as lead us into a greater spiritual worldly participation by refining values we venerate. For all it will force an adjustment in the relationship between our Higher Mind and lower mind. In short, either our Jupiter influences get moved due to Mercury RX in Sag offering us new ways of expressing our creative uniqueness or returns of that which liberates us into a broader view, or our Mercury influences get moved due to Jupiter in Pisces offering us wider feeling experiences, blessings, and closures showing us how to respond to Spirit in our own unique way.
With the numerous conjunctions in the chart (Jupiter and Uranus, the Sun, North Node, and Pluto, Moon and South Node, Neptune and Chiron) we should see a dual harmonic at work in most areas affected. So when any of these points is stimulated by coming transits, what occurs will involved blended energies. For example, if Jupiter is triggered, it will also have a Uranian flavor as well. If the Solar point is triggered, it will also have a North Node-Pluto energy.
This has important implications for all of us, since conjunctions combine multiple house rulers. When the Sun-Pluto points are stimulated, it will affect where we have late Mutable signs as well as early Cardinal signs. Even when the conjunction is separating, as with Sun/Mercury and Mars/Pluto, there will still be a two-step influence as the transit makes an aspect to the first planet and then to the second.
Any time an aspect is made to one of the conjunctions, it will involve several chart areas. So if Sun/Mercury are aspected, it will affect where we have Leo and Cancer, as well as Gemini and Virgo, as well as any planets we have in those signs. You can see how our charts will be lit up like pinball machines because of the power and quality of this Lunar Eclipse!
When we add the powerful irrational, obsessive, and compulsive energies of the Grand Irrationality fueled by Venus septile Pluto and biseptile Neptune, along with the wide but powerful square from Mars in Capricorn to Saturn in Libra, we can certainly see that the next few months may feature some weird and discontented energy showing us how to redirect and reorient toward the new.
This Lunar Eclipse and the coming Solar Eclipse on January 4, 2011 at 14 Capricorn are the last pair of Eclipses with Jupiter in Pisces. This is a "last call," showing it's final closure time!! Get ready to launch a whole new adventure on your own terms, as you have defined them the past 18 months.
It's interesting that though these eclipses will demonstrate a Jupiter in Pisces influence for months and years to come, for the first half of 2011 we again find Jupiter in Aries. This will no doubt awaken last Summer's Solar Eclipse influence which featured Jupiter in early Aries. Get ready for the rocket ship to take off in early February 2011 opening radical new ways to live authentically, with boosters sequences firing March 10-12, March 21-25, April 3-7, and April 22-24.
The Sun is the Light, while the Moon gives form to that Light. With the eclipse Sun in Sagittarius, we are offered illumination and integration through the Sag qualities of open-mindedness and a spirit of adventure showing a much broader Truth or future. This will illuminate the greater possibilities of life, opening new doors to wider vistas. The Sun's light will help us free ourselves from the last of old chains of mental slavery, and help us live a higher Truth.
Dane Rudhyar comments that this symbol is one of giving or receiving a blessing, and the "wealth of spiritual resources which can be tapped for the glorification of every relationship," and our "need to pay homage to traditional values upon which the Invisible Community of the spirit is built." Here we confront the need to "live a transpersonal life as a symbol," or find those who are living such a life and embrace their community. I believe this will assist the formation of groups that will help us live a greater future than before now.
Dr. Marc Edmund Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says the Solar degree is "The Pope," symbolizing "human excellence" in demonstrating the power of a special position in society, and "meet some exceptional need of everyday experience" by dramatizing our special abilities. Here we can be strengthened by others' appreciation.
He offers us the keyword SANCTITY. We are told that when positive, the degree is "an effective and spectacular sacrifice of self in some enduring service to the race at large."
The Moon in Gemini will help us give form to the Sagittarius energies through focusing on a diversity of ideas and views which show us different approaches to communicating the higher Truth and vision of the Sun. The light of the Sun conjunct Pluto and North Node will focus through the Moon conjunct South Node, warming seeds of radical transformation that will bring purification and upheaval through new experiences that will get us beyond the known and familiar. As noted, these will be most obvious via the transits in late Mutable and early Cardinal signs.
Dr. Jones says the Lunar degree is "Bathing beauties," symbolizing "human excellence on the side of purely natural endowment" where our Soul can meet some need in everyday life freed from obligations dictated by others. Here we find assurance through what parts of our life is "immune from change or loss," and can "stand radiant and reliant" in our interactions.
He offers the keyword CHARM. We are told that when positive, the degree is "a special capacity for bringing the familiar desires and interests to an enduring representation of worthiness."
The Sun at 30 Sagittarius is conjunct the North Node in Capricorn, while Moon at 30 Gemini is conjunct the South Node in Cancer. As with previous eclipses with the Nodes in these signs, wherever Capricorn falls in your chart is where you'll grow tremendously by cultivating Capricorn qualities. And due to Mars and Pluto also in Capricorn, you can also find growth through self-discipline and organized activity in houses and planetary functions involving Aries, Scorpio and Capricorn.
Since Eclipses are created by a Lunation conjunct the Lunar Nodal axis, it's useful to examine the Nodes in any Eclipse chart. The North Node degree, a.k.a. the Line of Greatest Evolutionary Development, is at 3 Capricorn. These energies will demonstrate through the South Node at 3 Cancer. One builds, one releases.
The North Node develops that which expresses through the South Node. In Capricorn we are shown a pattern of growth through professional or other public initiatives, as well as by being practical and self organized while taking on responsibilities within a group context. Cancer will be how these Capricorn developmental energies will most characteristically express themselves.
The South Node is also where we "show what we know," and must let go of past patterns which no longer serve our growth. Thus the Moon in Gemini conjunct the South Node in Cancer should be great for seeing a newer, higher standard of living so we can continue to let go of old habits, feelings, memories, and personal indulgences.
The North Node degree is "The human soul receptive to growth and understanding," which is about our "fundamental dependence on the understanding and support of fellow participants in each moment of self-discovery." He says "here is a delight in normal living, not through its limitation but...through a reiterated release of selfhood" where "life is found to be real and rewarding."
Dr. Jones offers the keyword AVIDITY. We are told that when positive, this point is "a gift for entering into the kaleidoscopic patterns of personal relationship with an unbounded enthusiasm."
Rudhyar offers that this degree is one of "inner and pure motivation," "the power to remain superior to physical limitations; to demonstrate free will," and "detachment." He also says this degree is "a powerful yearning for whatever will increase the scope and depth of (our) contacts with other living beings," and that our "desire to prove ourselves" will bring us new experiences. Just stay alert to potential results and consequences!
Blended with the Solar degree, it would seem that the above-mentioned Capricorn traits will drive us toward the blessings of a broader Truth based in a wealth of spiritual understanding. Of course, we may also find ourselves blessing others to open to new experiences, disciplines of self-discovery, and broader Truths. These will be released and/or demonstrated through the South Node in Cancer.
The South Node degree is 3 Cancer, "A man all bundled up in fur leading a shaggy deer," which is about a "pioneer, trail-blazing instinct" in our hearts where we are determined to strengthen ourselves in our "own highly individual roots." Here we "repudiate normal experience" if it's "unnecessarily self-limiting in its accepted opportunities and boundaries."
We are told the keyword for this point of demonstration and release is INDOMITABILITY. We are told that when positive, the degree is "unlimited self-reliance in and through every possible phase of self-expression."
Rudhyar says this is a degree of our instinct for getting beyond the known and familiar, where we should "plunge into the virgin possibilities of life." This is a synthesizing phase of decisions that reorient us, where our "new allegiances" test our will and willingness to "overcome stagnation and 'cold' during a trial of endurance."
Blended with the Lunar degree, it would seem that through the Capricorn mobilization helping us move into new experiences of Truth and potential futures we will be able to demonstrate our willingness to move into virgin possibilities even if we have a trial or two to go through. Also, through seeing a broader view and how to use our ideas about our Soul life we can let go of old habits and limiting attitudes and show our indomitable self-reliance in getting beyond the known and familiar.
Look for forms of illumination and integration that shine a light on ways to expand into new experiences that help you let go of limiting habits. These should naturally lead to growth in personal power and expertise moving us into being blessed to live new spiritual roles.
Be clear about the compartments of your life, and be willing to let go of those habits that keep you stuck in the past, or which create defensiveness, dependencies, or weakness. Growth comes through surrendering to a higher spiritual authorship in action.
It may be possible to figure out how to embrace the best without sacrificing something of equal value, but make sure it actually IS of equal value relative to your Highest Truth of Being. Get clear about the differences between needs and wants, and be willing to mature into a greater view of who you are within a team effort.
Other issues we'll confront during the period this eclipse is most active are to escape getting involved with hassles or limitations that are not ours to begin with, and avoid disputes that only divert us from our best efforts. We must learn to stay sensitive to possible consequences through staying alert to details, and develop a potential gift for awakening self and others to what's really important.
We'll be challenged to disregard immediate or lesser considerations when greater things are at stake, and find our anchorage in a core feeling in the midst of partially developed inner or outer disordered conditions. This eclipse will help us actively participate in public situations where our talents can be recognized as having special value, so go for whatever you care about deeply and share your gifts with others.
This will be a great time to do what we must to achieve a more effective way of expressing our Truth by surrendering old habits and mobilizing new ones. Stay on your discipline despite the endings, challenges, repair work, and circumstances that require humor, and you'll be living a new set of life adventures by March.
Overall, this Eclipse will be very effective in freeing us from old patterns while offering us glimpses of our genius or unique qualities. Most of the trouble of the much-feared Mutable T-square is already in the past, as indicated by the separating aspects. This fundamental and important fact has been ignored by many astrologers who are caught up in dreading the T-square.
Though some people will experience severe challenges and the need to back off if they find themselves out on a limb, illuminating what they should be learning through, I believe there is little to fear from this eclipse. A lot of positive work can be accomplished by combining how you have been or are being blessed within a larger group, social, or community context with the willingness to live a higher set of life standards.
The next few months blesses us or shows us how to bless others. We will truly learn that we need to be willing to live our Spiritual Self in the highest possible way while retiring from old dramas. Use creative visualization in your own unique way, and you can transcend old limitations and find dominion over your life.
Aum Namah Shivaya!

Robert,
I have a dear friend born as a triple libra, on the waning part of a lunar eclipse (he was born 12:03 past its full eclipse). How does this manifest? His moon is conjunct merc, sun, pluto in 1st house...
I also have retrogaded natal planets showing up: one friend has seven planets in retrograde. I havent met anyone with a solid understanding or perspective yet, but i have a vague notion...
Thanks for your amazing work. truly helpful and freeing!
