A Solar Eclipse is a New Moon. It shows the seed of what is to follow, not just for weeks, but for years.
This Eclipse is conjunct the North Node at 3 Capricorn, showing the growth focus to be on following our "yearning for whatever will increase the scope and depth of (our) contacts with other beings." The line of greatest development involves "proving ourselves," finding our "pure motivation" so that through free will we demonstrate our ability to be "superior to physical limitations." This can help us claim our power in some active way.
By following the line of least resistance, showing what we've already become sensitive to, and letting go of whatever habits lead us to clutch at the past that's already over, we can move through our "trials of endurance," getting beyond our old sense of self as we embrace new life possibilities. Here we demonstrate our particular way to show the world what we've been learning through the North Node in Capricorn.
Saturn, ruling the Eclipse, will dominate the energies through its presence in Libra, where it is said to be "exalted." Saturn's discipline and personal power focus is able to become very effective as it shows balance, rhythm, moderation, and reasonableness in how we demonstrate it.
It is in a sign ruled by Venus (in Scorpio), and Venus is ruled by Mars in Capricorn, that being ruled by Saturn. This is a "chain of dispositors that rules the workings of all the other planets except Mercury, Jupiter, and Uranus (ruled by Jupiter in Pisces).
The novile made by Venus to Saturn gives a spiritualizing influence, and the widely separating sextile from Venus to its dispositor Mars shows we are riding a fairly productive wave. However, the influence of the forming septile, while wide, still introduces an element of irrationality in what we can expect in the areas these planets rule in our chart.
When we add Mars separating square to Saturn, clearly the recent past, while productive, was also a bit of a "gear grind" that dislodged some stuck elements that had crystallized into some imbalanced form. We've been learning to get free of disputes that were irrelevant or deflective, and get oriented by ignoring all that was lesser when greater issues were at stake. Also when to assert and when to withdraw, and how to allow a natural sprouting that would lead us to some fulfillment of a "life ambition."
Saturn falls in the middle of the 3 sections of Libra. The middle third of the signs are said to be the emotional, social or cultural level of that sign's experience. That would imply the ruler of the Eclipse (including the conjunctions to Mars, Pluto, and North Node) will show us a way to balance our feelings, or our social-cultural perspective and activities. This will help us retire from some people and dramas while exercising new initiatives in new forms of organized public activity.
Venus and Mars, the other energies inextricably linked to Saturn in the Eclipse, are both in the last third of their signs. The last third of a sign is said to be the individual, mental, or spiritual area of that sign. Venus is in the sign of its "exile," while Mars, like Saturn, is exalted. Old Venus in Scorpio feelings will finally "come in out of the wilderness" and give way to more balanced productive approaches thanks to the very strong Mars and Saturn as long as we embrace the needed actions outlined in the previous two paragraphs.
This eclipse falls at the middle of the second decan of Capricorn. Capricorn is the sign of personal authority and public power, the results of how we've defined our foundations in Cancer. Thus this eclipse calls us to examine our life direction, our honor and personal authorship in the public arena. Through the South Node we will lose connections with elements of our past, but can also establish a new public persona that will be more effective and powerful than our old one.
This Eclipse will transform our public lives, our sense of duty and responsibility, and help us organize toward greater public effectiveness. This is "a taskmaster of growth" by letting go of the past so we can organize our future effectiveness. We will all be given opportunities to "let go, let G-D" with those things and behaviors that no longer nurture us, old habits and ways of experiencing life, and bring old "lines of supply" to an end.
This is the next in a sequence of New Moons that fall in the same sign as the following Full Moon. It is also a phase of practical organizing the evolving life energy initiated in Aries, substantiated in Taurus, explored in Gemini, grounded by this year's Solar Eclipse in Cancer, renewed in Leo, refined in Virgo, balanced out in Libra, purified in Scorpio, and expanded in Sagittarius. This eclipse shuts some of this process down so that what's left offers us more practical perspectives.
This New Moon at 14 Capricorn puts the focus on issues of practical self interest that will express through new perspectives, a sense of what is permanent versus what is impermanent, and show us what walk we need to do to demonstrate our innermost spiritual intentions. This Lunation jumpstarts Capricorn energy wherever it falls in our chart. This time initiates new ways of expressing ourselves more effectively as a result of claiming the power of our direct experiences.
This New Moon has an emotional, social, and cultural focus. As noted, since it falls in Capricorn, Saturn is the worldly ruler of this New Moon, while Uranus is the spiritual ruler. Those planets ruling this Lunation are in Libra and Pisces, again making those balancing and closure energies prominent.
As they are in a quadranovile, we can expect major spiritual decisions about who we must unite with, and who we must say goodbye to as a result of our spiritual unfoldment up to now. An abundance of some sort is promised by this Eclipse as a result of a deep feeling connection with those who bless and/or protect.
As with all the Eclipses last year and this, even though it's now separating, Pluto is conjunct the North Node. This "line of greatest development" helps us grow through exploring the hidden side of things to find the living core of whatever reality we're experiencing.
Also, this powerful seed transformational energy can help us see the hidden power in allowing our Soul to be "receptive to growth and understanding" through avidly seeking higher experiences. This is a major indicator of "self discovery" through normal means, and finding a "gift for entering into the kaleidoscopic patterns of personal relationships with an unbounded enthusiasm."
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. In this case, this influence will last for 52 months. This New Moon falls at 14 Capricorn, a point of technique where the past feeds our future, offering a "power to leave permanent records of (our) achievements," "personal immortality," and "assurance."
Rudhyar in the Astrological Mandala goes on to state that it's a degree of "the will to unearth, in our culture as well as in any culture, what has permanent value, and to let go of nonessentials." Here we sort out enduring truths, values, and "great principles" from old beliefs and attitudes, and can learn "deep and thorough appreciation of sociocultural processes in their most enduring forms." He says "what is needed is a penetrating and courageous insight founded upon a valid Historical Perspective."
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, we find the Lunation degree is "An ancient bas-relief carved in granite." He says this symbolizes "the immeasurable potentiality of the present moment" that help us "capitalize on opportunities."
Here we can express our true convictions, and complete achievements with an "over-all perspective." The keyword is FOUNDATION, and we are told this degree, when positive, is "a gift for bringing all things into a pattern of convenience and thereupon precipitating an inevitability of desired results."
So it would seem this is a Lunation where we can find what really matters through getting a perspective about how we got to where we are now. This can provide us a foundation for expressing our deepest individuality and convictions within a larger sociocultural context. Here our ability to capitalize on our best opportunities can help us complete what we want to accomplish.
There are 4 planets in Earth signs, with 3 in Water, 2 in Air, and 1 in Fire. This preponderance of Earth and Water is good for practical works and deeper feelings, but the shortage of Fire indicates a deficiency of inspiration and light. This Eclipse will ground us all in newer, more effective feelings and ways of experiencing life, but we'll have to draw inspiration from within.
So the effects of this eclipse over the next 4+ years is about letting go of old perspectives, old duties, responsibilities, and limitations even as we receive what we need to "put on the show." We can feel our way to deep understanding of alternatives and possibilities by letting go of deflective or distractive disputes and gear grinds and turning quickly to whatever new initiative present themselves for our future fulfillment.
A tremendous amount of the harmonious potential to come from this Eclipse will be triggered by Jupiter throughout 2011 into 2012 as it moves through Aries and Taurus. In Aries, Jupiter makes a waxing square to the planets in Capricorn while opposing Saturn, setting up major releases in the Summer of 2011. In Taurus, it stabilizes and harmonizes the Capricorn energies, giving us ways to adjust toward more effective service.
Those with planets or sensitive points in the middle degrees of their signs will see a lot of activity, as the Sun, Moon, and Saturn all play an active part impacting anything between 14-17 degrees of all signs. From there we jump to 21-28 degrees of the signs which will be impacted by Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune. We'll discuss more on the specifics of which signs will be challenged or harmonized in the next article in this series.
Before the next New Moon at 14 Aquarius on February 2-3, we shall all begin a new long wave cycle of graduating into a new Spiritual focus that we've been rehearsing for, and some will be initiated into a greater Spiritual role to play in the world. The next few weeks are the end of the end and the beginning of the beginning.
The promise is one of unconditioned potential which when shaped by courage, willingness, humor, and seeing a larger life will yield a more focused Spiritual awareness arising out of "primordial formlessness." Awaken to your most authentic self-expression, BE your "best self," and you'll quickly find yourself on a rocket ship to a greater Destiny while living your most authentic convictions.
This Eclipse will yield some very productive, stabilizing, and harmonizing effects despite occasional false starts and abrupt changes in direction. Find what supplies your new needs while letting go of neediness; find new responsibilities and power by getting a perspective on what to let go of; be efficient in finishing up, blessing, forgiving, and flowing into a natural way of exercising your most effective self.
In the next part of the series, we'll explore the various planetary patterns and aspects in this Eclipse, continuing to examine which signs will be most affected over the next 52 months.

I\m looking forward to the day when "the poor" will be assisted with cash for astrological readings, as well as food and couches. Jane McGonegal (the game theorist @ http://janemcgonigal.com/) hopes that a game developer will achieve Nobel Prize status by 2032, so I see no reason why an astrologer or group of astrologers shouldn't receive the same prize in the not too distant future. Neat, eh?

check that: she hopes by 2023 not 2032

I've been trying to figure out for the last several weeks what meaning this eclipse should have for me since it conjuncts my true node at 13cap33 in my 6th house. Life sure "feels" like I'm at a "wiping the slate clean and starting over on every level" place. I think this article has given me some concrete idea, so thank you Robert. I always get so much insight reading here.

this reinforces the wiping the slate clean; or it being wiped clean for you!!
Also, the new energies seem to be ushering in more Soul Growth and a focus on expressing one's Soul's Purpose.
i like what you say here about "feeling your way to a deep understanding".
Namaste
:)

Dear Robert, this shows even more the reason for my inquiry from a previous article, about my Mum's current health problems - she has her 3rd Saturn return, Uranus on top pf her Natal Moon, Pluto opposed natal Pluto and Neptune past the opposition of natal Neptune, ruling her eight house. I wrote about it either on the Mercury stationary direct article or the one about what 2011 will bring. Thanks for any comment or guidance.
Bless you,
Isabel

Hi jan - Well, it would seem that the "cosmic recycler" will remove some old detritus from your light/life leaving space for greater power, authority, and effectiveness. New perspectives will no doubt open you to possible ways to demonstrate your "immortal Self." Dance on, rock on, live on, love on!!
Hi daz - Fantastic idea!! It would be a wonderful world when all would have access to food, shelter, education, and regular spiritual check ins that don't involve windbaggery, dogmas, guilt, and giving one's power over to those who don't have a clue as to the true workings of the Divine. Perhaps someone with a LOT of money will create "Noble Prizes" (yes, spelled that way purposefully!) for those who contribute to the spiritual evolution of individuals and humanity as a whole. (This would have to exclude religions, since in my opinion and the opinion of several Masters of the Wisdom, for the most part religions keep humanity in chains of mental slavery.)
Right now the closest we could come would be if those who award MacArthur Foundation "genius grants" (or others who also offer grants for forms of service) could break free of their perceptual box and start offering grants to those who work to educate humanity on how to embrace spiritual energies and life focus. We can only affirm that the wealthy awaken to the common need for true spirituality rather than religion, since the world could be transformed in short order to a much more compassionate and synergistic way of interrelated existence....
Hi taricia - You are entering a long term growth cycle where you will learn perspective and power through 6th house things. Open to a vaster view of how the past has prepared you for new authorship that will serve both you and your world in responsible ways. Glad you get insights here. Now get to work!;-)
Hi Michele - Yes, all eclipses end some things we no longer need so we can author new things. This one involves Cap energy in the life area indicated by the house in which it falls. Am definitely looking forward to seeing how the Venus trine Jupiter/Uranus manifests these next 4+ years! We shall be learning much about feelings and how to focus them in harmonious ways to move into knowing what's real v what's unreal.
Hi Isabel - Already answered on the other stream.
