A Solar Eclipse is a New Moon. This one will be very powerful due to it making quintiles to Jupiter conjunct Uranus, itself trined by Venus. These very harmonious energies will be released through the New Moon square Saturn. Abundance, gifts, blessings, and new responsibilities and decisions will be in the air for the next 52 months.
(This is a very long article with a lot of information. I've tried not to get too technical.)
Remember that in all event charts, separating aspects show past events. Only forming aspects can be considered to show us what is ahead of us. This Eclipse has an abundance of forming aspects, showing a lot of activity during the 52 weeks it's active!
The Lunation features Venus semisquare Sun, Sun and Moon conjunct Mars, quintile Jupiter and Uranus, and square Saturn! These make for a powerful cocktail of conflicting forces, with lots of energy and shifts in purpose, responsibility, increasing demands and self-sacrifice, and major personal decisions to integrate our sensitivity with our diversity of interests.
We can and must master tendencies to become discouraged while staying open to sharing our insights and sense of perspective and proportion. Here we get to give and receive new interpretations about life's opportunities so that gifts and special talents can come forth that are perfect for us and our circumstances.
Other powerful forming aspects between the planets showing what's ahead include a very powerful harmonizing and stabilizing Venus trine to Jupiter and Uranus, Mercury sextile Neptune and Chiron, Mars sextile Jupiter and Uranus, Jupiter conjunct Uranus, and Saturn quadranovile Uranus. These indicate overall harmony at the close of a long cycle of activity through eliminating and regenerating, productive ideas coming up when we've retreated from the outer world, and good exercise on many levels furthering abundance, innovation, expansion, and protection.
Powerful frictional aspects forming include Mercury squaring Jupiter and Uranus, with each planet releasing the positive potential of the other. Though separating by a sliver from Neptune, Venus' forming square to Chiron focuses the energy assisting all to rebeginnings through rising above old inner and outer limitations. Be patient as you offer wisdom to those who aren't experienced enough to know what you know, and allow the release of your loving, creative individuality.
So it seems the Jupiter conjunct Uranus are the most active planets in terms of aspects. Aspects to this powerful conjunction can help us revolutionize what we need to on the deepest, broadest levels while saying goodbye to whatever it is that's closing at the end of a long life cycle.
Other challenges shown by these aspects involve bringing a pioneering hard-to-define vision of the future down to a workable reality, making our genius effective and practical, and moving from hoping to accomplishing. Let go of being too theoretical, find a larger social tide that's important to you, and learn how to see things through others' eyes if you want to convince them of your conception of things.
Find the right means to move your ambitions forward while getting the understanding you need. Do not get lost in irrelevancies, side issues, or useless mental wanderings going everywhere and nowhere. Let go of the lesser when greater things are at stake, and when you feel excluded from things, don't get aggravated or antagonistic. Adjust to the normal course of events, and use your insights into human motives and folly to exhibit some special trait that can lead you to some form of success.
The Lunation making a very strong quintile to Jupiter and Uranus should make for some highly specialized events and circumstances that will be very beneficial for our sense of well-being and social connectedness. It most impacts those with planets or points around 26-28 Pisces, 8-10 Gemini, 20-22 Leo, 2-4 Scorpio, and 14-16 Capricorn.
In the short term we should see definite manifestations of these unusually fortunate gifts Jan 23-24, Feb 15-16, March 7-8, 15-18, and 26-31, and April 16-19. After that, expect the next wave of special gifts and circumstances to include the end of May, the second and third weeks of June, the first and third weeks of July, and mid-August through early September. After that, keep an eye on the second and fourth weeks of October and the end of the first week in December.
2012 trigger points for gifts and unique circumstances are early and mid-January 2012, the first week and final days of February, the entire month of March and first half of April, late May, the last half of June and all of July, and the last half of August.
Release points to implement antidote behaviors mentioned several paragraphs up in 2011 are the third week of February, the second and fourth weeks of March, the second week of April, the third week of May, the first 3 weeks of June, the last half of July, the third week of August, all of September, late October and early November, the third week of November, and the middle of December.
Some will see ideas about truth at variance with deep feelings about Truth, while others will bring their universal Self into articulation. Mercury square Jupiter puts the ruler of our Gemini and Virgo houses and planets in conflict with the ruler of our Sagittarius and Pisces houses and planets.
If you experience a split between what you think and what you feel, don't go off on tangents, detach, see the big picture of how things interrelate, and remember that every vision of a new future or truth requires letting go of something. March 2011 will make some things very clear.
Generations most impacted by this Eclipse will be those with outer planets in mid-Aries, mid-Cancer, mid-Libra, and mid-Capricorn through the New Moon square Saturn. Also affected will be those with planets in late Gemini, late Virgo, late Sagittarius, and late Pisces through Mercury square Jupiter and Pluto.
Though not a complete list, the former group that have conjunctions, squares, or oppositions to their Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto from the Eclipse square Saturn include those born 1924-1932, 1938-1939, 1945-1953, 1960, 1967-1968, 1970-1972, 1974-1982, 1989-1993, and 1997-1998.
Also not a complete list, the latter group that have conjunctions, squares, or oppositions to their Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto from the Eclipse Venus square Neptune and Chiron include those born 1925-1929, 1940-1942, 1948, 1953-1957, 1960-1964, 1967-1971, 1977-1978, 1980-1981, 1984-1985, 1992-1995, and 2001-2003.
As you can see, those getting a double dose of things shutting down creating the space for the future to present itself are those born 1925-1929, 1948, 1953, 1960, 1967-1968, 1970-1971, 1977-1978, 1980-1981, and 1992-1993. If you're born during one of these times, you can bet a new era of evolution will present itself in the near future! Again, triggers showing the new way will be whenever Mars moves through the middle degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, or the late degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
Like the last three New Moons, this Lunation continues to feature a "Bowl" Jones Pattern. This is a pattern where all the planets occupy half the chart with the other half unoccupied. At this time of the year, the span begins with Saturn in Libra, shows planets in Scorpio, Sag, Cap, Aquarius, and ends with Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces. Since Saturn leads the pattern, it means Saturn is important in how things present themselves for our learning experience, since it is the first visible planet to rise each day.
This particular Bowl indicates those with Ascendants between early Cancer and early Capricorn will be scooping up or initiating experiences, while those with Ascendants between early Capricorn and early Cancer will be completing or capturing experiences. We can all find what we possess that is ours to offer our world or life in meaningful ways, and find humor and understanding through perspective and a healthy sense of proportion.
Besides being important as the leading planet in the Bowl, in general Saturn continues to usher in allies, friends, fellow truth-seekers, more balanced views, and corrective actions as techniques for community building or group awareness. Since January 2010, "greatness calling itself to itself" has been in the air, and we completed major lessons around that theme between January and September.
At this time, we've entered into a threshold zone of Saturn in Libra experience since it's very near where it will go retrograde January 25-26 at 18 degrees of Libra. Since late October we've been getting a front end look at lessons and energies we'll experience from a different angle of perception between January and June 2011 during the time Saturn retrogrades back through mid-Libra.
All the transfigurations in our actions and relationships we've done since January 2010 have now culminated in some clear patterns of "repetitive behavior" which can show us the way to peace. Since early December 2010 we've been learning through doing some kind of "repair work," and through "retiring" from old dramas. This will continue through mid-March 2011, so keep finding ways to experience joy as you reconstruct or repair elements of your life to mitigate negative future consequences.
Though not specifically related to this New Moon, let me offer you some backstory to what we've all been learning via Saturn these past 15 months.
Starting October 2009 Saturn began to show us new archetypes, perspectives, or roles, as well as larger cycles, larger possibilities, and the dawning of a new day in our lives. Between January and early April 2010, due to Saturn retrograde, we re-traced the ground of the "first run" of manifesting a new ideal, a new archetype, and a new sense of self within interpersonal and collective circumstances.
We revisited and finished up our Saturn in Virgo lessons between April and July 2010, after which Saturn re-entered Libra and began to firm up our new archetypal expressions. This was activated in a powerful way in late July when Mars entered Libra and conjuncted Saturn at the critical first degree. Since then we've experienced a new set of life expressions.
The past early October 2010 New Moon in Libra continues to be important since that Lunation lit up the Libra area where Saturn occupies in this New Moon. That means the Libra seeds that came forth in October and early November have been acquiring more solid form and structure since then. This will determine much that presents itself in the next two months, as well as September 2011.
Between now and then, Saturn will retrograde across the Libra New Moon point again in late March 2011 bringing different perspectives and returns, and move across it again in forward motion in late August 2011. That implies that whatever the 2010 Libra New Moon was about will crystallize in some way during all of these time periods.
Taken together, these important factors in that New Moon point to opportunities to find peace and a timeless spiritual connection to the ageless Wisdom. Keep sharpening your intuition as you continue to go ever deeper into vast feelings that connect you to all Beings through all time. Find your center, be adaptable and creative, visualize carefully, and you can find yourself riding circumstances in ways that transcend old limitations.
As Saturn again goes retrograde at the beginning of January 2011, by March it will again begin making a square to Pluto. This Saturn square Pluto aspect symbolizes the continued friction and tensions on large and small levels with gear-jamming in the air that we had to endure all of 2010. As I've mentioned in other articles, it's the culmination of what began November 1982, when Saturn conjuncted Pluto at 28 Libra.
This is a long range cycle for human evolution. Things set into motion in 1982 fulfilled their process between November 2009 and August 2010, when the last exact waning square was made. After this "last blast from the past" between March and June 2011, Saturn will make no more frictional aspects to Pluto until late 2014.
Though not set into motion by planetary aspects at this Eclipse, the Grand Irrationality will continue as a major influence throughout the next 52 months this Eclipse is in effect. More forks in the road for all of us, individually and collectively. More radical choices and changes, more confronting obsessive-compulsive behaviors in self and others, more widespread strangeness as we move into unknown zones of a higher future destiny than we've known up to now. It's certainly a major fork in the road for all of humanity!
The Grand Irrationality has been a major player in most of the eclipses of the past three years, so you may want to revisit the archives, since the Solar Eclipses of 2008, 2009, and 2010 will continue to show effects for some time to come. You can also find more about the current hot zones and influence of the Grand Irrationality through the articles linked at the end of this one.
Given other elements of the Lunation Eclipse chart, prepare to accept the harvest that's yours, and assert your individual skills in new public forms. Accept disciplines that make you more effective, let go of lesser forms while seeing great principles more clearly, and stay on your inner point of balance at each new beginning.
Cooperate with others who have helped you or are helping you emerge from whatever cocoon you've been in, and through learning how to synthesize past, present, and future, see the bigger picture of the path you've already committed to over the past 6 months. Learning how to put things together so the whole is greater than the sum of the parts is a major theme to this Lunation, so be creative in how you weave a larger vision out of the pieces leaving and coming.
The next 52 months will continue to offer many important turning points as well as challenges for most of the 12 signs. Still, there are gifts to be claimed, as well as abilities to master circumstances by committing to that which adds to your higher values. Just get the right perspective, let go of lesser habits and relationships, and do whatever exercise you need to in order to organize your life toward a greater effectiveness.
Since this is the last Eclipse with Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces, understand the sense of completion and protection that come when what is done is done. Keep blessing the passages, forgive, release, and flow into a greater uniqueness and individuality.
We saw doorways to the future last Summer, and a review of the 2010 Lunations in Aries, Taurus, and Gemini hold the keys to what will expand throughout 2011 and 2012. Expect new information to come beginning early April 2011 that will power up our new lives-in-the-making.
We now stand on the threshold for what will flame on in just a few weeks. We are still breaking out of our cocoon, and transfiguring our lives. This is the culmination of many years of dreaming and the emergence of the concrete forms of those images. Face forward, since what you dreamed last May, and again in September, will be made manifest beginning NOW!

confused: don't those born 67-68 get the "double dose" from the outer planets as well?

Hi Lisa - Thanks for the catch. Wrote it without much editing. Already corrected.

great work

Thanks Robert. Could you please comment on whatever influence might be attributed to the nodal axis currently moving through the beginning degrees of the Cancer-Capricorn axis, finishing its transit of these signs and thereby re-activating the grand cardinal cross of mid-summer 2010? I'm assuming the upcoming squares of Jupiter and Uranus to the lunar nodes is of some significance (?).

Hi Robert,
Can you please tell me why so many birds are dying?

Spot on! Thank you very much.

I loved this post but one thing tripped me up...Mercury square Jupiter puts the ruler of our Gemini and Virgo houses and planets in conflict with the ruler of our Sagittarius and Pisces houses and planets. I guess the conflict for me arises because I have Mercury in Pisces (so my Mercury is in conflict with itself?). I'm sure the Mercury in Sag, Jupiter in Gemini and Jupiter in Virgo natives feel similarly!

Hey Matt, I'm doin some Mercury Gemini style--Jupiter contemplation myself. It seems if I can't get the information I need from the obvious source I have to be willing to travel a wider circle to get it. Lotsa roses to smell along the way. Godspeed!

Hi Robert ..the solar eclipse is falling in my 12th house and I am going to turn 31 this year.I feel , as you said, that a door has closed but I dont know where to go now. The old is gone surely BUT the new isn't here yet.Would really appreciate your guidance.

Thank you so very much for this, Robert. The Saturn activity which began in October 2009 has certainly been evident in my life. Zurich as a place to seriously consider moving to coinciding with October 2009, then that job (for my partner) kind of hanging in limbo until early-May 2010 when another job -- set up by a person at this first job --, also in Zurich, landed quite suddenly on the table. And true to the time table you laid out, in late-July there was an offer, we accepted, and he started working with them from our place here in NYC while permits and such were ostensibly being filed and approved.
Ah, but then we had that Libra New Moon in October which took place right before Venus turned retrograde. And the situation with this new small start-up company that had seemed so promising and wonderful turned very confusing and very bad real quick before ending the day Venus stationed retrograde.
But then by early-November (per your time table) there was ANOTHER possibility with a stronger company -- again in Zurich (can't seem to escape the place!) -- who has many years under their belt and a history of success. And it's only just now we find the situation beginning to move forward at a quick pace. I suspect, in looking at your Hot Zones of Activity (my phrase, not yours) that any movement with this would happen during the time frame you mentioned. I think it also helps that this recent Eclipse in Capricorn was conjunct my partner's Saturn, so the fact that this new position being discussed is that of an "authority figure" makes sense.
As always I enjoy your work, your writing, and your willingness to share your experience and knowledge with all of us.

Hi Robert. Thanks again for this series of articles on the eclipse. They are superb! I generally avoid getting personal in this cantina, but now this eclipse is conjunct my ascendant at 13 Capricorn. Saturn is hitting it's station right on my stellium in 15-18 Libra. Whoa Nellie! This is such a positive time for all of us to rise to our highest potential. "Be all you can be" takes on a whole new meaning. My goal is to rededicate myself to "The Great Work" in a new and deeper way. Thank you for your fellowship and support.
The two acts of violence, one an assassination in Pakistan, and one an attempted assassination in Tuscon, Arizona, call forth a new way of being for all light-workers on the planet. It is truly time for the human race to beat all our swords into plowshares. Let us all renew our efforts to bring forth Peace on the Planet. Let there be Peace on Earth and Let it begin with me. Ans so it is. Namaste.
