In Pt. 1 we explored what the coming Year of the Metal Rabbit (or Metal Cat) will hold for us all by examining their qualities. Today we'll continue exploring what we can expect in the world based in the qualities of these years, past and present. Expect peace coupled with dynamic change! I've also included an extensive list of Rabbit Cat people for your perusal.
As I wrote yesterday, the Year of the Metal Rabbit, or Metal Cat, occurs once every 60 years. The last time we had a Metal Rabbit Cat year was 6 February 1951 to 26 January 1952, and the one in front of us lasts from 3 February 2011 to 23 January 2012.
If you didn't read 2011 - Year of the Metal Rabbit Cat Pt. 1, please do so in order to get a ton of information about this sign's qualities. Having explored the sign in depth there, just what can we expect in the coming Year of the Metal Rabbit/Cat?
THE YEAR OF THE METAL RABBIT, HARE, OR CAT
This is the year when many signs will get a well-needed rest and find a lot of social enjoyment. Use this year wisely, as it's a break between the Tiger and Dragon Years, both of which show a lot of upheaval!
The Year of the Rabbit Cat is one of feeling supported in new initiatives and ways of securing our well-being. This is a year to launch new businesses, new relationships, new enterprises, new ways of enjoying life, and new ways of taking care of ourselves and those we love.
This should be a very relaxing year in many respects, even amidst the uncertainties and unexpected (ultimately minor) disruptions. It's a good year to learn whatever will improve our mind and outlook, and find things that make us feel more joyous and more optimistic for the future. We can change our self-image, and become more loving and enthusiastic in our enjoyment of life.
If there is a sense of dissatisfaction, it's because of feelings that are too intense, or not really genuine. It's a year to change and/or cultivate your personal style and make investments in things of beauty, as long as they aren't unsustainable or unaffordable in the long run.
Refine your BS detector, as the Metal Rabbit has a "sixth sense" about dishonesty and bad faith interactions. If something or someone feels questionable, hang back a while and while being sincerely friendly, diplomatic, and charming, play your cards close to your vest.
While these are supposedly good years for entertaining and cultivating groups, it's also a good year to cultivate some measure of reserve, and valuing privacy and solitude as temporary break times from socializing.
It should be a year of tremendous far-reaching global change as we all learn to join with others in enjoyable situations and activities. Find things you want to learn to do within group situations that feel relaxing.
It is said that all things concerning the law come to the fore during these years. Whether that's good or bad has a lot to do with what we're doing or not doing, and what society demands of its people regarding legal rights and responsibilities. In any case, we can probably expect major legal matters to come front and center this year!
Calm is the quality of the Rabbit Cat, while toughness is the quality of Metal. This is a year to enjoy what you built in the years of the Rat, Ox, and Tiger despite the major changes going on globally. This year will bring success for those who have deep insights followed by going with their instinct for lucky opportunities and investments.
So regardless of your sign, find ways to relax and build healthy relationships in the midst of radical changing conditions. By finding safety, relief, or a sense of calm, you'll be ready to ride the magic of the Year of the Water Dragon, beginning 23 January 2012.
So let's take a look at 1951, the last time we experienced the Year of the Metal Rabbit Cat. It followed the Metal Tiger, a year filled with wars and violence, as well as escalating tensions around the world. Here is some of what I wrote about the events of the 1950 Metal Tiger year:
... the USSR announced they had an atomic bomb, Truman announced our Hydrogen bomb program, Chiang Kai-shek asked the US for weapons, and Indonesian troops invaded the Moluccas. There were two major conflicts in Asia that started that year. Tiger Ho Chi Minh attacked Cambodia, the US sent military advisers to South Vietnam, the French and Vietnamese were fighting against the Viet Minh, and President Truman gave military aid to Vietnam, thus escalating what would in time become the Vietnam War. This was no doubt in large part due to John F Dulles becoming a senior State Department advisor that year.
The second BIG war to begin that year was Korea. N. Korea invaded S. Korea, Mao Zedong sent a telegram to Stalin he would intervene, and China entered the Korean conflict. There were mass executions in S. Korea, Truman threatened China with atom bomb, the UN rejected membership of China's People Republic while beginning a counter offensive in Korea, and China refused a cease fire in Korea, even while invading Tibet forcing HH Dalai Lama and thousands of refugees to flee Tibet.
In the following Year of the Rabbit, N. Korea attacked and captured Seoul, and the UN forces took it back. U.S. President Harry S Truman relieved General Douglas MacArthur of his Far Eastern commands, while the Tibetan government signed an "Agreement for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet with the People's Republic of China." Korean War armistice negotiations began, and the United States, Australia and New Zealand all signed a mutual defense pact, called the ANZUS Treaty.
The Organization of Central American States (ODECA) was formed, the Treaty of San Francisco was signed, formally ending the War with Japan, U.S. President Harry Truman declared an official end to war with Germany, and the Marshall Plan expired after distributing more than $13.3 billion USD in foreign aid to rebuild Europe.
There really wasn't as much global instability as the previous year. Libya peacefully separated from Italy, the war in SE Asia continued, as did the Korean War, though the first peace overtures to end the Korean War were made in 1951. About the only new conflicts involved rioting in Egypt and a military coup in Bolivia.
In the US, a lot of historic sci-fi movies were released, and it was the debut of "The King and I," "Show Boat," "A Streetcar Named Desire," "An American in Paris," "Gigi," "The African Queen," "The Today Show," and "I Love Lucy." As Cats are known for having style and artistry, another notable event was the Ninth Street Show, a.k.a. the 9th Street Art Exhibition, a gathering of a number of notable artists, which marked the stepping-out of the post war New York avant-garde, collectively known as the New York School.
In two notable firsts, Alan Freed first used the term "rock 'n' roll" to describe that amalgam of R&B, jump, and boogie woogie music, and in the first broadcast of Edward R. Murrow's "See It Now" series, Murrow shows the split-screen image of the Golden Gate and Brooklyn bridges and tells viewers it is the first time to see the Atlantic and Pacific oceans simultaneously.
Other important firsts included the invention of the Junction Transistor, the introduction of oral contraceptives in the US, the first airplane solo across the North Pole, UNIVAC I was offered to the census bureau, the first nuclear power plant was built, direct dial coast-to-coast telephone service began in the United States, color television was introduced in the US, and CBS first used its "Eye" logo. Given that the Cat is considered to be an "Eye" perhaps there's a parallel there!
The only notable law related news for 1951 was Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage, and the US passed the 22nd Amendment, limiting the President to two terms.
Calming, relaxing, stabilizing, dynamic, and world changing, this year we can enjoy what we activated in the past Year of the Tiger. Taking the long view, our perseverance in the year of the Fire Dog (2006), bold risk taking in the year of the Fire Boar (2007), planning and saving for the long term in the Earth Rat (2008), stabilized in the Year of the Ox (2009) and activated in the Year of the Tiger (2010) has been challenged, and we saw new initiative come forth the past year.
