There's been a lot of dire scuttlebutt about the "Super" or "Mega" Full Moon of March 19, 2011 indicating a major seismic event for California, perhaps even "the big one." Don't believe it!
Having lived in SoCal for many years, it's always a good thing to be earthquake prepared. That's a given, since California has hundreds if not thousands of small quakes every day! Most can't feel them, but they're still happening. That's also true for the entire "ring of fire."
All that said, even though there are some difficult aspects (and highly glamorous announcements and warnings!), this Full Moon does not indicate "the big one" is coming "due to" this Lunation, even if it will happen somewhere in California someday. Despite the various alignments and tidal pulls, this Full Moon will not create a "mega" earthquake there.
This is a "mega" Super Moon because (like the past few Full Moons) this one is also at Lunar Perigee, meaning it's closer to the Earth than usual. While it gives us a very large Moon just before dawn, a Lunar Perigee does not indicate we're going to have "the big one" tomorrow, the day after, or even in the next two weeks. I'll explain more in the Full Moon article coming shortly.
Earth changes are indeed happening, all over the world. There will be earthquakes in many places over the next few years. I've just never felt that terrifying people with glamorous predictions of widespread calamity and panic is helpful. Most of these pronouncements are like perfume - you can smell them but you should not swallow them!
If you live in an earthquake zone, get prepared should something happen in your area whenever. Ultimately, regardless of where you live, either you're volunteering to be part of those assisting during the transition and rebuilding after such events, or you need to think of going somewhere else where there is less likelihood of earthquakes.
Also, it's a given that very few places on Earth don't have some form of "natural disasters" that could happen. Occasionally, just about everywhere has some kind of problem, whether natural or human-made. That's a given, since the world has its own evolutionary trajectory and we're not helping it due to our pollution and cluelessness.
Regardless of how potentially dangerous your local environment is, glamorous pronouncements ginning up fear and dread are not helpful (except for the sale of bottled water and candles!) While we are entering a time of instability through a variety of means, be mindful of your Eternal nature and the illusion of most assertions.
Whether you live in a potential disaster zone or not, meditate, get in shape physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, love as much as you can, connect with your spiritual Brothers, Sisters, and the life that's all around you, and do not feed the speculation, fear and dread. Humanity must stop "feeding the troll." We should not give the illusion any more power than it already seems to have.
Aum Namah Shivaya!

Hi all - Here's some more, courtesy of an article called Bad moon rising? A few bits:
The associations between "Super Moons" and environmental events was originally promulgated by astrologer Richard Nolle, who claimed that both Katrina and the Christchurch earthquake were precipitated by Super Moons. He now has predicted "a whole host of global meteorological nightmares this weekend, including a surge in extreme tides, magnitude 5+ earthquakes and a slew of powerful storms."
The problem with this shotgun approach to predicting meteorological events is that a) there were many magnitude 5+ quakes happening already before this string of super Moons which will continue long after this sequence ends, b) powerful storms are already in motion and have been for years due to a combination of solar activity AND us messing up the hydraulics and magnetic fields of the Earth with our misguided and very destructive environmental (and Pentagon) policies, and c) extreme tides happen more frequently than are reported, since lots of things create "extreme tides."
Again, it never hurts to be prepared if you live on a fault line or a coast, since things do happen. But this will not be "the big one." And you can bet that when it does happen someday, there will be lots of people pronouncing all kinds of dire things. Not very helpful IMHO.

Cheers for this Robert, it is a canny reminder to not allow fear to overwhelm. I have been 'feeling' the fear regarding all the chaos going on around the world...Your wise words have helped in reminding to detach from the fear-mongering... i remain compassionate for all involved... us all, sentient beings & Gaia...

Yes, better be ready then not ready. Panic and fear are really delibitating. I have learned this from the Japanese they have to be calm and they have little quakes all the time. If, everthing goes well. I want to do a book on their experience of the great quake, where they were, I heard one story that was pretty funny, thought most people did not have a good time and this is not to take away from all the sad events as of late. One friend was at an onsen. She had to run out naked from the onsen and guess what she did. They had one cute older lady who said. No, its okay i like it here and besides i enjoy being to sit here all alone. I think they let her do what she wanted. This was in Tokyo. Anyway, everyone has their story. There experience. I found that many older people were not prepared to leave their homes after the great quake or the power plant problem. They felt there was no need to panic and that to keep the hope up and stay solid. Very interesting to be a part of this experience. I am learning so much. Thanks Robert for this post. As you might be aware there are quakes all over the world all the time at all times. It is nothing new.
