This Wesak Festival Full Moon falls at the 27th degree of Scorpio-Taurus, and begins to stabilize the recent beginnings set into motion by the multiple conjunctions in Aries. It's time to anchor forms of compassionate wisdom that will activate processes in June. The next two weeks offer us ways to adapt while finding more potent forms of creative self-expression, and honor our inner reality while detaching from trivialities and superficial things.
Today's article will cover rising signs around the globe, an overview of the Lunation, and the Sabian Symbols. Part 2 will cover the aspects, configurations and patterns, and which signs are most likely to be affected by where this falls in their charts.
This consolidating and transforming Full Moon occurs 17 May at 4:09 am PDT, 7:09 am EDT, and 12:09 pm in Greenwich. The Lunation finds 21 Aries rising in Santa Monica, 18 Taurus rising in Vancouver, 16 Gemini in Washington DC, 20 Gemini in Rio, 27 Leo in London, 1 Virgo in Amsterdam, 6 Virgo in Berlin, 16 Virgo in Tallinn, 11 Virgo in Sofia, 15 Virgo in Istanbul, and 3 Virgo in Johannesburg.
Moving into Asia and Oceana, we find the Ascendants to be 26 Libra in New Delhi, 30 Libra in Trivandrum, 21 Scorpio in Bangkok, 30 Scorpio in Hong Kong, 16 Sagittarius in Tokyo, 25 Sagittarius in Perth, 23 Capricorn in Melbourne, 25 Capricorn in Brisbane, 19 Aquarius in Wellington, and 29 Aquarius rising on Maui.
Because the New Moon preceding the Full Moon always represents the seed forms that are brought to surface at and after the Full Moon, please check out New Moon in Taurus Pt. 1 - What's Happening in May 2011 as well as New Moon in Taurus 2011 Pt. 2 - Securing What's Begun, Mobilizing to Achieve and Acquire What We Need.
Those around the world who will definitely feel effects of this Full Moon are the places where it falls near the angles of the chart. Places where the Lunation is near the angles and activating energies powerfully are the west coast of North America, the UK and Western Europe, India and SE Asia, East Australia, and New Zealand.
As we are still under the influence of both the July 2010 Solar Eclipse in Cancer and January 2011 Solar Eclipse in Capricorn, you may also want to review the numerous articles in the archives concerning those long term influences. As several planets in this chart harmonize, reconcile, or stabilize previously activated Eclipse points, many long term issues and endings can be understood from retrospective approaches.
Full Moons heighten feelings, and unlike recent Lunations, there are no functional oppositions at this time. Since those oppositions are now in the past, we've already glimpsed awarenesses that now show us how to adapt in offering the wisdom of our cultural heritage.
Also heightening recent forks in the road of Destiny was the presence of Jupiter transiting the Aries zone in septile to Neptune and biseptile to Pluto, triggering major New Grand Irrationality directives. We've all been challenged to choose wisely despite the general weirdness and hard edge to things. This has now picked up speed and thrown all of us into new directions. The whole world is at a critical turning point where we must find compassionate ways to link with others to assist the whole to survive through a rough patch.
This is the eighth Full Moon Sun that falls in the same sign as the previous New Moon, continuing to offer us a consistent (and "natural") way of experiencing the New Moon-Full Moon sequence. We had Full Moon Suns in different signs than the previous New Moon from July 2009 through September 2010. We'll have the current sequences of the New Moon Sun being in the same sign as the next Full Moon Sun through May 2012, after which it will again reverse function and the Full Moon Sun will be the same as the following New Moon Sun.
As I've explained in previous Full Moon articles,
... the Full Moon being in a subsequent sign than the previous New Moon indicates that what is released as realizations in the Full Moon period actually "prepare the ground" for the coming New Moon seed. Strange reversal of function, since you would think the New Moon provides the seed for the next Full Moon. But this set of Lunations works the opposite way....Another way to look at this is the Sun sign of the Full Moon is the same as and precedes the Sun sign of the next New Moon, reversing the usual way Lunations work. So the fulfillment of the Full Moon sets up the next "seed" to be revealed at the next New Moon....
So now the New Moon-Full Moon cycle is "back to normal," in the sense that now we have the illuminated form shown to us at the New Moon which is fulfilled by the light of the same sign at the subsequent Full Moon. The New Moons will all fall in the first half of their signs and the Full Moons will all fall in the last half of their signs from now through May 2012. Seeds shown in the first half, fulfillment in the second half makes some kind of sense.
This Full Moon falls at 27 Taurus-Scorpio. It is said that the last third (decan) of any sign deals with the individual, mental, and spiritual levels of life, and being the third decan of those signs, invokes a sub-influence of Capricorn and Cancer.
Since the Moon always focuses the light of the Sun in specific forms, the degree symbols for both are important. The Sun degree is the illumination or enlightenment of the Lunation, whereas the Moon shows us the potential forms that enlightenment will take.
The Solar degree symbol for the 27th degree of Taurus is "A squaw selling beads." Rudhyar says this is a degree of "Dignified offering of fruits of wisdom" to those who are younger or immature, and "Patient understanding of destiny" though he also attributes "meddlesomeness" to this degree.
He goes on to say this is a degree of "peaceful adaptation to collective needs" where we offer "products of our culture" to others. This can help us understand what has been sustaining us and brought us "personal peace and inner contentment."
Here we "peacefully reintegrate" our mind into the group/culture, and adjust to the needs of the whole of which we are a part. He says this degree falls in the Span of Enjoyment, Act of Differentiation, and Scene of Confirmation on the Individual-Mental level.
Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, says this is a degree of "the soul's fundamental disinterest in everyday superficialities" due to it being anchored "in an inner reality." Here we can find "a great satiety of experience," letting go of petty and inconsequential attitudes.
He goes on to say that "individual existence is justified in a fidelity to the recognized tokens of the cultural heritage." He offers the keyword DETACHMENT, and states that when operating positively, the degree is "creative aplomb or the ability of humankind to dramatize itself effectively in even the least of situations."
So this is a degree of individual-mental activity in a stabilizing focus of confirming something related to our Soul and how our cultural whole has been sustaining us. Here we see the power of letting go of superficial relationships and thinking, detaching to find a more effective self-demonstration.
The Lunar degree symbol for the 27th degree of Scorpio is "A military band on the march." Rudhyar says this is a degree of desiring to impress others in some social way, and "materialization of normally subjective values."
He goes on to say that this degree is about "the aggressive glorification of cultural values," where either we're showing others or they're showing us the value of some achievement. Here cultural excellence is demonstrated in dramatic ways that can sway others, creating feelings of social unity.
He continues that this degree juxtaposes "natural spontaneity and instinctive adjustment to nature" with a more assertive and perhaps domineering "pomp." He says this degree falls in the Span of Appreciation, Act of Group Integration, and Scene of Faith on the Individual-Mental level.
Dr. Jones says this is a degree of "the human spirit's continual desire to avoid everyday trivialities and drabness" as it moves toward enduring goals. Here self-affirmation moves us beyond lesser experiences, where we realize "things of worth" are gained through a "thoroughly self-mobilized effort."
He offers us the keyword INTREPIDITY, and says when positive, this degree "is a dramatic capacity for drawing events to a focus and directing their course successfully to what might have seemed impossible ends."
From these symbols it seems we can see the light of adapting peacefully to offer the fruits of our wisdom to others, finding a detached effectiveness in dramatizing something we value. These can express as forms of showing what we value in dynamic social forms, where we can bring things to focus and find success when we least expect it.
We can find illumination in being aware of how things are stabilizing and being confirmed at the "end of the beginning" of a new potency and set of self revelations. This can take shape through how and what we attract or repel, eliminate and/or regenerate, with the purpose of showing our world what we value in highly dramatic exhibitions.
On a final note, as I mentioned yesterday this second Full Moon of Spring is one of the "3 High Moons" occurring each year that offer the world a new infusion of Light, Dharma, and Love. To recap, the Full Moon of Aries/Libra brings the renewal of the life force for the year. The Full Moon of Taurus/Scorpio, known as the Wesak Festival, brings a new outpouring of the "Cosmic Buddha Nature" that brings all a renewal of the qualities that Sage brought to humanity to lessen suffering for all sentient Beings.
The Full Moon of Gemini/Sagittarius is known as the Christ Fest, where the World Teacher of the Age takes the wisdom of the Buddha Nature and infuses it with the Loving magnetism so that all may become more lovingly wise and wisely loving according to the lesson of the year. That Christ Fest Loving Wisdom pulse has been active since late May of 2010, and will be replaced by a new pulse at the June 15/16 2011 Full Moon at 25 Gemini/Sagittarius. As that's a Lunar Eclipse, it will be particularly strong in shutting down past patterns and opening new Love-Wisdom Lunar forms.
For now, enjoy the wisdom in doing your thing in your own way in the company of others who care for you. Here we can find peace, a deep cultural wisdom, and forms of dramatic self expression offering the fruits of that wisdom.
In Part 2 we'll cover the aspects, configurations, and which degree spans will be impacted by this Full Moon. See you soon!
