This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's Sagittarius Solar Eclipse Lunation chart which will throw us into strategic planning as it shuts down old truths, futures, and philosophies. It's time to get it on!
This Lunation, along with the inner planets, stretches out the usual "anchoring" occupied span running between Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus so that it now draws Saturn into the occupied area since it also involves planets in Virgo and Sag. This "whole span" shows us where the outer emphasis is in our lives, and what we're experiencing in our worldly realm. where we initiate through Virgo and close through Taurus wherever this 245 degree occupied span falls in the houses of our birth charts.
However, as mentioned in many articles up to now, due to the planetary positions we now have a "Locomotive" Jone Pattern, with Saturn leading the Eclipse. That makes the house transiting Saturn occupies in our birth charts extra important as a focus for our stability and personal authorship of our lives. I explained more about the importance of Saturn in a previous article in this series.
As noted, Mars in Virgo initiates the occupied span, while Jupiter in Taurus closes it. Think of this as a time when all our experience begins with a Mars in Virgo energy, proceeds through Saturn in Libra, the stellium in Sagittarius, and then Pluto in Capricorn proceeding through Neptune in Aquarius awakening into a Uranus in Aries experience, and then solidifies and envisions through Jupiter in early Taurus. This pattern will hold through next Spring.
So wherever we have Virgo, Libra, Sag, Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, and Taurus in our charts is active, with Sagittarius the crowded sector due to the inner planets. The general theme is that we can find enormous potential through what we learn over the next 4 weeks (and 4 years!), leading us to a new fitness doing new roles using will and love in a balanced way. If we can find productive ways to use the down times, we'll wind up with experiences that transform our lives in fairly dramatic ways.
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes only one major forming aspect, while the other planets also make relative few important forming aspects.
The only forming aspect the Lunation makes is the close square to Mars, showing that the brakes will be put on ways of doing things and a lot will be on hold so we can develop new plans and methods. It's probably the most prominent energy in this chart.
It challenges us to get our energies under control and not get aggravated when we feel that too much is on our plates. It'll give opportunities to formalize certain discoveries that can lead us to a deeper faith, as well as through the "indestructability" we glimpse we can stand for a truth we believe in, even though it may lead to a symbolic "crucifixion" or two.
This Eclipse will definitely shut down elements of our lives related to where we have 1-10 Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces in our charts over the next 4 years. You will know what is being shut down as various transits through these zones affect your planets along with cutting loose effects from this Eclipse Sun and Moon. As I've mentioned in previous articles about the Eclipses throughout 2011, there will be BIG shifts throughout 2012, these radical developments continuing into 2013 and beyond, so get ready!!
Other important forming aspects made by other planets include Mercury retrograde biseptile Mars and quintile Neptune, Venus trine Jupiter, square Uranus, and conjunct Pluto (all out of sign), Jupiter sextile Neptune, and Saturn triseptile Uranus and trine Neptune. These are all very powerful, and work in very different ways.
Mercury biseptile Mars throws houses ruled by these planets into dynamic choice and shifts in direction. Most affected are those with planets or points around, 6-9 Virgo, 27-30 Libra, 19-22 Sagittarius, 10-13 Aquarius, 2-5 Aries, 23-26 Taurus, and 14-17 Cancer. Astute students will note these zones are very close to the effective zones of Saturn triseptile Uranus pattern active throughout past weeks into 2012, so expect this period to offer us Mercury retrograde and Mars induced activities that directly relate to recent choices.
Mercury quintile Neptune gives us a chance to get our intuitive function in shape, and the various Venus aspects show stabilization and the beginning of new seed forms at the culmination of the new beginnings taking place the past 18 months. Venus continues to help us "get in shape," so we can live a new law in our lives in the years to come.
Jupiter sextile Neptune is helping everyone see opportunity within a larger collective experience, while Saturn triseptile Uranus continues the pattern of non-rational, destiny-producing activities explored in the article linked two paragraphs above this one. Saturn trine Neptune is stabilizing the collective consciousness around Libra issues such as fairness, justice, and balanced proportion.
This is opening us all to seeing the essence of things and taking collective material and weaving it together in new ways that demonstrate our virtuosity more perfectly. It is exceptionally favorable for those with sensitive planets and points in the last 6 degrees of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius, and especially those born around the third week of February, April, June, August, October, and December.
In this Eclipse we must get a new view, a new truth or philosophy about our line of greatest development, and see what's coming with an eye to how larger natural cycles will play out. We are all still emerging from our "cocoon," standing on the threshold of a new way of life. This period will bring us "cosmic visitations" that will leave us in awe of Divine workings, and with any kind of grace at all, will leave us all aware of how to use force productively. We will certainly see how we've been liberated from old forms of social rigidity last Summer, and see the opportunities that are arising from our various "liberating ordeals" since then.
The separating aspects show reality already experienced, or things already set into motion. Aspects of note are the Eclipse quincunx Jupiter and trine Uranus, Mercury sextile Saturn, Venus sextile Saturn and sextile Neptune, Mars trine Jupiter, septile Saturn, triseptile Uranus, opposition Neptune, and trine Pluto, and the long running Jupiter trine Pluto which will again be in a forming aspect when Jupiter goes direct at 1 Taurus in late December.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate, while on the other hand the effects of this Eclipse will last 4 years. This Solar Eclipse New Moon falls at 3 Sagittarius. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth. According to Rudhyar this degree is one of "Recreation of a world of manifestation through symbols and intelligence." Also "Schooled confidence in the judgment of self."
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves "the transcendent ritualization of conflict," where we learn to transmute aggressiveness to "checkmate the ego," whether our own or that of another. This will train us to be "more objective, more careful, more aware of whole situations - and less impulsive and intent on side issues."
He says it falls in the span of "Receptiveness," and it's the third degree of the actional level of the scene of Abstraction in the Act of Group Integration. So for this month, as well as the next four years, this Eclipse will teach us how to be receptive to abstractions that through acting on them will teach us about group work.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the keyword is ABILITY. He states this is a degree of "the self-confidence and authority which come to (us) through (our) refinement of skills and discipline of understanding," and our ability to mobilize our potential when we are challenged by events. He says this degree is where we emphasize our individual "effective and profitable participation" in a reality we can master through our perspective. Here "concentration is (our) genius of self-fulfillment," where we can become sensitive to possibilities of accomplishment or "broadened self-discovery."
So we enter a time of planning the play, and through Mercury retrograde we'll find ways to learn through imitation and imagination, with a focus on the fact that there are few if any "lines of demarcation" between our "higher and lower life." Here we can get insights into analytical skills regarding opportunity across "many dimensions of experience."
When challenged, keep mobilizing your potential and concentrate to find a "completeness of perspective." Broaden your self-discovery, and be sensitive to accomplishing more than you thought before now. Things may not take the route you expect, but by the time it's all done, you'll know a unique sense of intuition or connection to the collective consciousness around you.
Of the planets that rule signs, there are 5 planets in Fire signs, 3 in Earth, 2 in Air, and 0 in Water. This preponderance of Fire and Earth indicates a lot of inspired, practical activity, with some solid and stabilizing interactions. With no planets in Water, find how to feel, care, and experience within yourself, and use your innate skills to externalize these feelings the best you're able. Just don't expect much to be in the situations you encounter. Even when they seem to be there, it'll probably be more about ideas and practical things than true feeling connections.
Pluto in Capricorn continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating your role and take some time to enjoy it! Also, through the harmonious trine from Jupiter about to begin forming again, we can safely purify what needs purifying and be leaner and more solidly able to rely on our material and non-material resources.
In the past months we've learned how to make many types of adjustments in perspective and how we relate to create a better world for ourselves in connection with others. Now that we're riding the waves of the new archetypal roles we began to live in 2009-2010, we can use gentle and balanced forms of will power, training, maturity, and sense of our new roles to play to move into new vistas, new worlds, new lives, and new ways of doing our Being.
The next 4 weeks is a time to open to new ways of viewing how to attain a future while forming strategies to outwit anything that would oppose that. Due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear. Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions.
Jupiter in Taurus counsels that we need patience and the ability to keep finding gentle, simple, and stable ways to move into your new life while becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself." In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small. This is the time to define who you are apart from any inner or outer neutralizing factors that keep you from awakening to your uniqueness.
We've all had chances to adjust our perspective and become more natural and joyous. Due to Mercury retrograde, during the time this Eclipse is in force we'll get at least one new look at old ideas and ways of coordinating our lives on our terms. This should lead us to imitating new ways of doing our Being, allowing the ageless Divine Wisdom to act through us while we leave behind old ideas and memories that kept us split internally.
Here we continue to secure conditions, values, and resources while hitting a fork in the road between our past and future ways of understanding a higher view and how to implement actions to further that future. And as I said, many will experience at least one "cosmic visitation" that will transform them in dramatic ways and leave them in awe of how Divine energy works.
The guiding force in this Eclipse indicates that we will all be given opportunities to realize our power to make an "effective impact on events" through self-mobilization, and any catharses we go through will show us how to clear the way for a better progress. This will bring the union between the individual and Cosmos, transforming many beyond their wildest imagination. Focus on "the values at hand and the potentials ahead," and you'll do just fine!
This Eclipse will shut down old aspirations, philosophies, "chess games," and ways of planning for the future these next 4 years, allowing space for new forms of these to take shape in coming months. Keep making clear decisions, follow through in practical actions, and then go get new information, new understanding, and new views of what's possible in the future that helps you separate from the past. Once you do what must be done and then get a new view, new information, and/or new understanding, then feel what must be felt, experience what must be experienced, and get clear about what you're feeling so that you can do further actions with no hesitation.
These will ultimately lead to a different understanding of what we understood in the past so that by imagination we can re-vision the future. So look back while looking ahead, since unique perspectives are available that can make understanding the past much easier while securing what is needed to solidify future potentials.
There are gifts, stabilizing understandings, and new ways of being an individual promised by this Lunation, so decide, think, and then feel with an eye to getting in shape for a stable harmonious future to come once the "cosmic visitation" has been experienced. And of course, as I mentioned in another article in this series, stay balanced, mature, and elegant as you move fluidly between mind and heart, will and love.

Your Highness,
As I am in full understanding of my earthly complements. Taurus, Virgo and cappy is my Mc. Career is in the forefront. Not understanding the shut down of for instance Jupiter in Pisces 6 trine my uranus in cancer. as also chiron transit in pisces is one degree to my venus in cancer when every bizarre experience that is occurring at the moment is about caring for others??? I know I must draw the line...but it aint easy!

Hmm...Robert, "This Eclipse will definitely shut down elements of our lives related to where we have 1-10 Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces in our charts over the next 4 years." Having natal (9th house) Mer-4+ Vir, Sun-9+ Vir, So.Node-9+ Vir, Ven-10+ Vir; Asc-9+ Sag; (3rd house) No.Node 9+ Pisc; (Hence Desc.-9+ Gem), I'm having a difficult time imagining what 'shutting down elements in my life' could begin to look like. That's a whole lot of me to shut down!! Or could it manifest as a rebirth/transformation/reinvention?

Magenta here, Robert, with a critical question/ situation your comment, hoping it will also be helpful to others born with Merc. RX:
After searching in the recommneded way for housing before moving to Denmark, I came up with nothing and found something at the last moment only through a fluke. It was a flat in a house up for sale and it turned out to be a very difficult situation and I have never really settled or moved in, to put it briefly. I just moved in during mid- August and now I have been asked to move out by 31 Dec. and have been looking since 1 Nov, but finding nothing ( it's impossible to describe how tough the rental market is here, even moreso for non- Danish speakers). I have a very heavy schedule and am trying to find someplace while working but will have more time beginning next week. My point is, what with my natal Merc,Rx and the fact that I need to find someplace ASAP, will it be okay for me to sign a contract during the retrograde period ? I have to find someplace right away if I have to pack, move and be out by 1 January. I feel I'm essentially redoing a move that shouldn't have happened.
I would be so grateful to hear what you think about this !!
Sincerely, magenta

Hi Mina - Thanks for saying so. I am frequently amazed at many things in our wonderful world, including the appreciation that Truth seeking Souls have for each other and all that's good, true, and beautiful....
Hi Chickie - This should shut down old 8th house stuff for you, if I'm not mistaken. This square to your Jupiter with Mars opposition could release many Jupiterian things into Gemini void zone. Jupiterian things are usually okay as long as they don't get too expanded too fast! Mars is great for your Uranus (and I don't recall specifics, but probably your Venus as well) for many months. And since you're already elegant, stop working at it and just play with it!;-)
Hi Dee - As Sag is waxing square to Virgo, that's the sign where emergent foundations come forth. Remember that Mars in this Eclipse is activating your Virgo, so consider that perhaps old foundations will be challenged so you can BE a new Virgo expression. By next May you'll see exactly how this operates through what is initiated currently, reworked or slowed down or postponed while other things happen from Jan-Mar, then the slow steady movement back on track April. Mars is coming to visit you for quite some time, testing how your learned your Saturn in Virgo lessons a few years back.
Hi magenta - As far as Mercury rx goes, I signed a lease on my birds nest in Westwood in Dec 1990 without ever being inside of it due to Merc RX mixups with previous tenant splitting early and not leaving me a key. I still have it after 21 years, so I must state that Mercury RX isn't a deal breaker re: renting a domicile. You may want to reconnect with someone from the past, or take a new look at a neighborhood you once looked at but then went somewhere else.
The fact that you never settled is a good thing. It's a "port in a storm" type of life situation. You may need to do a list of what you want, leaving open all kinds of possibilities so Spirit can answer, and meditate that you WILL find what is perfect for you right now (or it will find you!) before December 21. BTW, re-doing a move that should never have happened is a perfect Mercury RX manifestation, as difficult as that is. Oh well, just don't sign a lease or move in on Dec 20, 21, or morning of the 22nd. Best days for you to move (or begin to move) are Dec 19, 24, 27, 28, 29, and Jan 1. Blessings and may you find the perfect place for the perfect price at the perfect time in a perfect neighborhood with a perfect landlord and perfect neighbors. Focus your power of magnetic attraction, open to unknown things, and allow the perfect situation to present itself asap.

This is really something. It's it's . . . I don't know. I know there may be bumps and jars along the way but it seems like a really good thing that's happening. Your writing on this is so well put. Thank you.

Hi Magenta, I had to rent a holiday appartment last summer, during Merc RX and at very short notice without a hitch and now we are all enjoying weekends and holidays there. Couldnt wish for better Landlady, neighbours etc. I have natal Mercury RX too and Robert is of course right in that "it could very well find you" mine did through a chance encounter!! So please dont panic and it will happen. Best of luck!

Thank you so much Robert! I really appreciate your added input. One, quick additional question... "As Sag is waxing square to Virgo, that's the sign where emergent foundations come forth." Did you mean Sag? Or Virgo?...is the sign where emergent foundations come forth? Blessings, Dee

Hi Chickie - Life can be very schweet if we shift focus!
Hi caliban - I believe that a lot of the leaps we're all being forced to make right now will ultimately lead to greater stability and enjoyment. That's why I try to keep in mind what our old friend the I Ching sometimes says about situations, that we are "enriched through unfortunate circumstances." We just never know what's around the corner....
Hi Elizabeth - Very good advice! My LA apartment began as a place I would go a few times a year to work, chill out, enjoy the beach, etc. Then it became a home, then back to a work space and crash pad when I'd go to and from NY, then back to a home, and now back to an occasional work space. Also couldn't wish for a better landlady or neighborhood. Frankly, best ever! And I also found out about it from a friend of a friend who called me when I was 1000 miles away, and it came together in short order. Mercury RX can be as easy as difficult, pleasurable as not.
Hi Dee - Sag is the waxing square to Virgo; Virgo is the waning square to Sag. Sag grounds Virgo; Virgo culminates Sag.

Your Highness,
In this particular energy....to speak of "shutting down old 8th house stuff" how does one know whether to look at it from solar or rising.
If it is aries rising....8th house is Sag....LEO Solar 8th house is Pisces. So with aries rising having Jupiter in 12 and Jupiter in 8 in solar. For instance I want to end caregiving with the exception of sharing the caring of my mother with my sis from east to west. Would that make sense? (venus, uranus moon jupiter all in water)
Just curious how we choose to see the chart on this one. Rising, Solar or both?
Thanks when ever you find the time....

Hi chickie, nice words from Robert, stop working at it, start playing with it. Good words to this virgo's ears. Enjoy!!

Hi Robert! I'm definitely feeling like my life and job direction is being reoriented to a future that I can't quite make out or what is a practical job these days. At this point I feel like my life is attempting to reorient itself for long-term survival but as said before unsure about what is practical in this day age? Go to college, take loans, hope the social economic structure that appears to be there remains or, maybe we shouldn't even look toward the 'system' for direction? What is practical right now because I'm having a rough time figuring that out what is and bills still only except money ...31 Jan 74. 4:02pm Norristown, PA. ~lots of love :)
