This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's Aries New Moon chart which will bring us clarity as we embrace new initiatives and new ways to see our lives in a broader context.
This Lunation, like the last two, falls within the "anchoring" occupied span of degrees running between Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter (and now Venus) in Taurus. While Saturn in Libra and Mars in Virgo are outside the occupied area, taken as a whole it shows that about 2/3 of the zodiac is in play with an unoccupied span running between Venus at 19 Taurus and Mars at 7 Virgo.
The 252 degree span that starts with Mars moving to Saturn in Libra and then through planets in Capricorn, Pisces, Aries, and Taurus shows a "whole span" indicating where the outer emphasis is in our lives, and what we're experiencing in our worldly realm. We're all initiating action through a Virgo lens and closing through Taurus energy wherever this occupied span falls in the houses of our birth charts. This pattern will hold through Spring 2012.
That makes this chart a "Locomotive" Jones Pattern, with Mercury RX leading the Lunation. Given Mercury is at 1 Aries, the degree of the recent Vernal Equinox, and the Lunation is at 3 Aries, Mercury leading the New Moon shows that the next 4 weeks will be a “backward look” at the new beginnings that have happened since June 2010. Add the Uranus in Aries influence in this Lunation, and it’s safe to say that wherever this cluster of planets occupies in our birth charts is extra important as a focused energy field dominating this New Moon.
So this chart shows a heavy concentration of planets in Aries, making that sign the focus during a period when things may seem out of balance, along with a lot of power available in that area of experience. The general theme is that due to the powerful Earth trines now separating, we have stabilized a long term growth pattern in the recent past that can feed the renewal and initiative indicated by an Aries New Moon. We can get exceptionally clear about what’s gone, what’s new, what’s stable, and open to specializing the energies into unique gifts related to intuition, balance, connectedness, overcoming fear, and envisioning new dimensions of personal expression.
We’ve been saying goodbye to the old and seeing the indestructible parts of our lives, personality, and Truths over the past 4 weeks, and now are renewing our connectedness with Self, others, and higher duties. Many have begun to embrace a better set of life standards. We’ve been finding balanced perspectives that helped us come to philosophical completions, and with this Lunation we move into new perspectives as a result of being able to synthesize elements of the past into a realization that we can become an inspiration to others on the basis of what we’ve recently stabilized.
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes several important forming aspects, along with all the other planets as well.
The most powerful forming aspects the Lunation makes are the conjunction to Uranus and triseptile to Mars. This indicates two extremely important long term influences. The conjunction to Uranus begins a new yearly cycle of those Transpersonal Individualizing energies. As with the conjunction by the Sun with Pluto in late December and Neptune in late January, as the Sun communes with those planets a whole new year cycle of spiritual energies are powered up in our world.
The triseptile to Mars “collects the light” of the separating Saturn triseptile Uranus and brings it back into play. This interacts with the current forming Mars septile Saturn that I mentioned yesterday. You can find more in the article Astrology in March 2012 – Forks in the Road of Destiny, An Intensified Irrationality in a Weird Time of Important Decisions. Most of the other important aspects in play at this Inferior Conjunction were also happening at the recent Vernal (Spring) Equinox. Please refer to those articles to know more about the general aspect patterns in play at this time.
In case you don’t have the time right now, here’s a small bit from last month’s New Moon article about this very important configuration that’s been happening off and on for several months, and is activated by this Lunation:
The aspects involving… Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto are long term influences. Of special note is that Saturn triseptile Uranus continues to anchor a long term irrational "destiny producing" activation involving how we can take responsibility for our individualization into a new life.
This triseptile is showing us choices where we will determine our destiny for a long time to come. That makes the Saturn triseptile Uranus in this chart - (more here) - especially powerful, as are the other aspects to both of these from the other planets.
This creates hot zones of activity a couple of degrees to either side of (approximately) 2-4 Aries, 23-25 Taurus, 15-17 Cancer, 6-8 Virgo, 28-30 Libra, 19-21 Sagittarius, and 10-12 Aquarius. If you have a planet or point near these zones, you've been under long term pressure off and on for months and shaping how your Uranian function will revolutionize your Saturn structures, and how your Saturn function will organize your emergent individuality (indicated wherever Uranus is transiting in your chart.) In any case, given this is a transit to transit aspect, much is being set into motion in the bigger picture right now that will influence events down the road.
As this Lunation has the same major aspects as the recent Vernal Equinox chart AND the chart of Mercury’s Inferior Conjunction with the Sun, you can learn more about the Jupiter quintile Neptune and Saturn quintile Pluto from referencing those posts. Rather than re-invent the wheel today, just reference the articles linked above and allow your imagination to lead you to a greater clarity around how a highly specialized gift between Jupiter and Neptune might work in your life given the houses these rule and where this quintile falls in your chart. Then you should do the same thing with Saturn quintile Pluto.
The Jupiter-Neptune harmonic points are 1-4 Pisces, 13-16 Taurus, 25-28 Cancer, 7-10 Libra, and 19-22 Sagittarius, with specialized interactive serendipitous harmonics at 19-22 Gemini, 1-4 Virgo, 13-16 Scorpio, and 25-28 Capricorn. The Saturn-Pluto harmonic points are 27-29 Libra, 9-11 Capricorn, 21-23 Pisces, 3-5 Gemini, and 15-17 Leo. Specialized interactive serendipitous harmonics fall at 15-17 Aquarius,27-29 Aries, 9-11 Cancer, and 21-23 Virgo. If you have a planet or Ascendant in any of these zones, gifts, highly specialized conditions, and interactive blessings are on the way!
There are only two other forming aspects by the Lunation. One is the Moon semisquare Venus. This is always the case when Venus is as far away from the Sun as it is, preparing to slow in late April and going retrograde in mid-May. This reverses the pattern from last month’s New Moon, when Venus formed a semisquare to the Sun but was separating from the Moon.
The other forming aspect made by this Lunation is the square to Pluto, but it is over 7 degrees wide. While it may just be within orb (since the New Moon is in a sign that squares the sign Pluto is in), this square would indicate upheaval some ways down the road. Reference the many articles about Uranus square Pluto in the archives to learn more.
The separating aspects show reality already experienced, or things already set into motion. Aspects of note are the Lunation conjunct Mercury RX and novile Jupiter, Venus semisquare Sun and conjunct Jupiter, Mars trine Jupiter, triseptile Uranus, and trine Pluto, and Jupiter trine Pluto.
Mercury also makes a large number of separating aspects, including a semisquare to Venus, triseptile to Mars, novile to Jupiter, triseptile to Saturn, and conjunction to Uranus. This would indicate that we first experienced these through a Mercury lens, and now are getting the light of the New Moon that forms several of these important aspects.
These symbolize recent events, so to the degree you understand the aspects, symbols, and their meaning, you may glimpse some factors behind what's happened in the recent past. From one angle, we’ve already been through major choices affecting our future destiny, and now can take a new look at what’s been emerging in our lives that helps us become clearer about our genius, unique qualities, and true individuality.
The separating Earth Trines show that we’ve all gotten some solid understanding about our material well-being and what we need to do to secure our new material conditions. These will be implemented during April and May when Mars again makes Earth Trines in direct motion with planets transiting Taurus.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This New Moon falls at 3 Aries, “A cameo profile of a man in the outline of his country.” While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth. According to Rudhyar this degree is one of “the individual self as an avatar of greater collective reality; as participant in the larger scheme of society or life.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves "The sustaining power of the Whole, as the individual identifies himself with its life.” He states “having become objectively aware of his nature and his basic humanity, the individualizing person finds power and inner security in realizing his essential identity with the section of the universe in which he operates.” He offers that this is a “participation mystique” between our individual consciousness and the Universal Consciousness.
He states this symbol is a phase where if we can identify ourselves with a larger complex of life activities, we can become “an agent through whom the Whole may express itself in an act of creative resonance and outpouring,” in other words, an “avatar.” This provides us an opportunity to become an ideal of a form of “transpersonal life and consciousness totally consecrated to and directed by a divine Power,” the Archetypal Self.
So by our willingness to participate in a “greater life,” we can become a manifestation of some collective need, vision, ideal, or yearning, and overcome any lurking sense of isolation, alienation, or feeling some form of the meaninglessness of life. We are told it falls in the span of “Realization,” and it’s the third degree of the actional level of the scene of Desire in the Act of Differentiation. So for the next 4 weeks this Lunation will teach us how to synthesize our awareness of how we can grow into a larger life and become the answer to some collective need, ideal, or function.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, this degree is a “breadth of participation in everyday affairs,” where we “epitomize (our) tradition and culture.” He states this symbol is one of “both an impersonal self-dedication to broader community interests and a highly personal dramatization of the self as a focus for group actuality.”
He offers us the keyword of EXPLOITATION. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this is a degree of our “capacity for giving full play to every ramification of the reality (we) have created for (ourselves)."
So we enter a time of seeing a greater “avataric” role we can play, or a greater participation in life where we can impersonally dedicate ourselves to “broader community interests” and some group actualization. This will kick open new doors to new visions of self and society, and offers us all a chance to break through to a new dimension of awareness, function, and effectiveness.
Of the planets that rule signs, there are 4 planets in Fire signs, 4 in Earth, 1 in Water, and 1 in Air. This preponderance of Fire and Earth indicates a lot of inspired, solid and stabilizing practical activity, so it’s a great time to bring Spirit to matter! The lack of Air and Water indicates a shortage of mind-power and feelings, so we’ll need to bring ideas, interactions, and feelings to our lives the best we’re able. It’s not an associative or “touchy-feely” time, but it is a time of intense practical activity with a lot of spurs to action as we stand at the beginning of a new cycle.
Pluto in Capricorn continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating your role and take some time to enjoy it! Also, through the separating harmonious trines from Jupiter and Venus, we have had opportunities to purify what needed purifying and be leaner and more solidly able to rely on our material and non-material resources.
In the past months we've learned how to make many types of adjustments in perspective and how we relate to create a better world for ourselves in connection with others. Now that we're riding the waves of the new archetypal roles we began to live in 2009-2010, we can use gentle and balanced forms of will power, training, maturity, and sense of our new roles to play to move into new vistas, new worlds, new lives, and new ways of doing our Being.
The next 4 weeks continues Saturn’s ongoing lessons involving forms of philosophical completion, where we can continue to do repair or reconstruction work in some life area related to the house where Saturn is transiting. As Saturn is fully into its retrograde period, retracing the final 8 degrees of Libra, over the next few months we'll be taking a new look at lessons we've been moving into since October 2011. For the next 4 weeks, look back to December 2011 to get a hint about what we’re all dealing with.
We now have a new set of standards and have been shown newer, more "perfect" ways to secure a better life. Now, over the next 4 weeks, we must enter into those new views and roles without needing to look back or be ambivalent. In other words “Just Do It!”
As I've discussed, due to the effect of the very strong Gemini Solar Eclipse of June 2011 and the equally strong Sagittarius Solar Eclipse in November 2011, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past, letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear while becoming more aware of the need to plan our moves several steps out. Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions. Links at the bottom of this article.
Jupiter in Taurus counsels that we need patience and the ability to keep finding gentle, simple, and stable ways to move into your new life while becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself." In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small.
This is the time to do some “window shopping,” figuring out what tools and goods you’ll need to play your larger role in life. There are unique gifts of intuition available for those who can navigate deep and vast feelings, or who have a deep sense of communion with Universal Consciousness. Once we let go of ego limitations, we can experience a surge of spontaneity and potential that will show us how to make best use of the times in between intense activity and reorganized ways of doing things.
This time can help us begin to live a larger collective effectiveness and a greater ideal of self-awareness and self-expression. There are major “forks in the road of destiny” that are now coming to life where we can find a more spiritual individuality and uniqueness.
During the next 4 weeks, we’ll be thinking, then deciding, then feeling. So lead with your vision, understanding, and what’s being communicated into decisions and actions. Then after the decision or action, sit with the feelings and experience them, bringing them to the surface of your consciousness and get clear about what you’re feeling and why. That will lead you back to new information, new vision, new ideals, and new understanding upon which you can do your next set of decisions and actions. Then again name what you’re feeling. That way nothing will get bottled up through underuse, and you can move through experiences with power and clarity.
If February was about surrendering to a greater purpose, March has been about making that purpose ever-clearer through us experiencing the indestructible elements of our lives, personalities, and Spirit. We’ve been focusing on our purpose, letting go of ambivalence so we could flow out of the old into the new. Now is the time to embrace a new life!
As Mars and Pluto rule this Lunation, and they’re in a separating Earth Trine that will again be in major force once Mars goes direct in April, take a look back at what’s been delayed, slowed down, or reworked while other things were going on, since that will be the foundation for everything that gets done quickly, efficiently, and easily in late April through May. Mars will continue to move back toward its stationary degree at 4 Virgo over the next 4 weeks, so expect a slight quickening wherever you have Virgo, Aries, and Scorpio. Prepare, since things will pick up speed in a big way when Mars goes direct!
While Mars is still retrograde in Virgo, curb agitation and needless impatience and criticism, be practical in your assessments without getting too obscure, and think before you speak. This is a time of high anxiety for some, and intensely productive work for others. Try to begin to explore your new sense of purpose by opening your mind to new ideas, new likes, and new appreciation of non-rational experience. Let go of controlling or excessively narrow relationships that leave you feeling tied down to rigid likes and dislikes, and see a new way to relate to yourself and others.
This is the beginning of the beginning, where what has been promised since Summer 2010 will take wings, opening new roles, new vistas, and new ways of acting. Between November 2011 and February 2012 we went through three "cosmic visitations" and two revelations of a new way of being that rendered our old patterns obsolete. We now have been prepared, and have seen the way to a new life and a new consecration.
So take a great leap forward, since this is the time to act with an eye to what’s been established before now. Be yourself, see a newer, more effective role to play and way to live, and then move forward, at first gradually, then quickening, since from here the pace accelerates significantly!
