Venus goes retrograde at 7:33 am PDT, 10:33 am EDT, 3:33 pm Greenwich on May 15 at 24 Gemini. This will impact us all for quite a while, given that Venus is conjunct the 2011 Eclipse points and Jupiter will be transiting the zone of this Venus retrograde over the next year, also boosting the influence of those 2011 Eclipses.
I’ve been asked quite a bit recently about this “eclipse” of Venus to the Sun. It’ll definitely activate everyone’s life in a variety of ways. We’re being told it’s an exceptional event. Well, even though it’s rare, it’s not all that rare. It usually occurs every 120 years, mas o menos, though it has been known to occur more often. It indicates things to come for many years, but what?
Let’s begin looking at this Venus retrograde by examining some things about Venus. Venus symbolizes what we like, what we value, what we appreciate, and our overall aesthetic inclinations. So when Venus goes retrograde, it definitely affects everyone’s values, pleasures, love life and other close relationships.
When Venus is retrograde, we can find different ways to relate to others, or different ways to image what we like and how we like it. It can bring back old relationships, old memories of relationships, or old relationship patterns updated for the present. Given Venus rules values, it can bring back old value systems for new evaluation, or the return of old memories of things we valued and appreciated in the past.
During a Venus retrograde period, we have a chance to review, revalue, reevaluate, and rework our appreciations and our ways of relating to others. Because Venus is associated with Narcissus, we can get different looks at direct and indirect forms of narcissistic behaviors, or how people in our past exhibited these, as well as our subconscious vanities and superficialities which enable us to be seduced by the passing fancies of our world.
Given this particular “eclipse of the Sun by Venus,” due to the rarity of the event (as explained in part 1 – link at the bottom of this article), it will no doubt affect the century ahead. That means elements of this Venus “event” will be in play for the next 10 Jupiter cycles. We will be able to see some signs and signals about the overall themes of the next long wave cycle over the next year as Jupiter transits the span in Gemini where this Venus retrograde period occurs, as well as the exact point of the Venus “occultation.”
On the other hand, Venus will do an interesting dance with Jupiter as it conjuncts, squares, and opposes Jupiter during the next 120 Venus cycles, more or less. This actually means something, since Jupiter represents the quantum probabilities that could arise as a result of a wider point of view. Venus captures, Jupiter opens doors.
Jupiter always expands what it touches, or touches it. So this on-going set of Venus-Jupiter contacts during this point in cosmic time will open many doors of perception and understanding that Jupiter will expand over the next year.
On a related note, it will also bring echoes of the themes set into motion around 1889-1895 when Neptune conjuncted Pluto in Gemini, setting a 500 year period into motion at that time. Everything that’s happened in the past 120 years is directly related to the seeds set into motion by that conjunction.
Neptune and Pluto danced around the conjunction, going stationary at 2, 5, 7, and 8 Gemini before actually conjuncting at 8 and 9 Gemini in 1891-92. After that they danced on their stations near each other at various points between 8 and 16 Gemini before moving out of range. Themes related to this “primum mobile” will be explored and expanded to whatever degree thanks to this Venus retrograde coupled with Jupiter’s transit of this span in Gemini over the next year.
So say goodbye to an old 120 year cycle, and hello to a new one! This is a "change of season" in the 500 year Neptune-Pluto cycle, and marks the beginning of a new quarter cycle, or "season" in that long wave influence.
Obviously this Venus retrograde and occultation “event” with the Sun will affect different signs in different ways. It affects Taurus and Libra Sun, Moon, and Ascendant people strongly, since Venus rules these signs. Of course, it will bring Venus-related returns and reviews wherever we have 8-24 Gemini in our charts.
This retrograde will influence the rest of the signs differently, based in how each sign relates to Venus-ruled sectors. I’ll go into that, as well as some other critical factors in the stationary retrograde chart, such as Sabian Symbols and various aspects, in future articles about this Venus retrograde period.

Hi Robert,
Thank you for bringing your insight and wisdom to this much talked about even in the skies and hence within us. My relationship is undergoing review as it has such great power and mystery and feels like a breakthrough to deeper understanding is needed. My partner has Libra rising, while I have Taurus rising. Hes Aries Sun, while I'm Sag so of course I'm extremely interested in your further explanation of the impact of these influences through the signs in hopes of seeing more clearly the possibilities.
Many blessings and gratitude, Leah

I too look forward to further discussion of this event. My new love interest has a Libra moon and our natal Venus(es) are conjunct at 7 Aquarius.Pretty exciting stuff!

"7:33 am PDT, 10:33 am EDT, 3:33 pm Greenwich on May 15 at 24 Gemini."
Getting 2:33 pm Greenwich at 23,59',1'', although seen 24,0' at some other sites too.
(And as Caroline pointed out in the other thread, TransPluto stationary direct on May 15, 2:23 GMT at Leo 29,5'.)

Dear Robert, Magenta here, first of all thanking you for all the wonderful articles in 2012 ( since I last wrote you in late 2011 re my apartment move which has turned out very well ) !! QUESTION: Since I have Venus Rx at 28 Scorpio at the MC, in the case of us natal Venus Rx folks, do things symbolized by Venus tend to feel more normal during a Venus Rx period, just as those of us who are natal Mercury Rx tend to find that we don't have as tough a time as others during a Mercury Rx period ?
With its being on my MC, I am dearly hoping that the long-delayed project with K will finally be on his front burner so that the damn thang will come out when the company and I would like it to, in Oct or November of this year. (But my precise Saturn return doesn't happen until late October 2013... so who knows?) During most of this Venus Rx cycle, I will be back in the States: in NYC for business and friends, then with family in MI. Am returning to Europe on the Uranus Pluto conjuncntion in June, which somehow slipped my mind when I booked the flight ! Oh well.
Any observations would be most welcomed by we few natal Venus Rx folks out there, as well as any thoughts about my girl sitting on the MC as she modestly does... :-) Many thanks for your continued inspiration, dear Robert ! Hoping all is well with you - Blessings, Magenta

Alas...we are having a human experience. I guess it doesn't bode well that my derm took off a ca spot today, first day of retrograde in my sun sign! Ack...any thoughts on a diagnosis such as this on the first day of venus retrograde?
Your wisdom is mucho appreciated, as always.
The eclipse looks like a good one on the 20th but I'll wait for that article..:-)

Gotcha!
"British Summer Time (BST) is the civil time during the summer months in the United Kingdom during which the clocks are advanced from UTC, also commonly called Greenwich Mean Time (GMT),[1][2] by one hour (UTC+01:00).
The British Summer Time period begins on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Sunday of October. Though initially popular after its introduction in 1916, the practice now divides opinion.
In the community of Greenwich, GMT (in the form of UTC) is the official time only during winter (during summer the time in Greenwich is British Summer Time rather than "GMT")."
So 3:33 pm is the local British Summer Time (UT+1.00), while 2:33 pm is the UT/GMT.

Hi Robert,
My wife was told by her principal yesterday that there isn't funding (venus) for her teaching (elementary school-Gemini) position in the next school year, starting in the fall. The only hope is that there will be an increase in student enrollment, in which case more money will be available. Interestingly, we won't know that until August 1st, right when venus direct is transiting the degree that it went retrograde. I'm thinking that her present "unemployed" situation could hopefully be reversed by then. Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Hi Sagars - Actually, I just use the term "Greenwich," not UT or BST, for economy's sake. Greenwich can be UT or BST, depending. Most of my readers wouldn't know what BST means, so I simply use Greenwich as a substitute for "UK time." You will note that the time is correct, even if the terminology isn't BST.
Hi all - Will answer the rest of the comments when I have time. Overwhelmed with work as it is.

Mea culpa!
Got it now, I never knew that they ever used any other time zones till today. Zero degrees longitude always translated as GMT in my mind.
(Not the first time though that I learn applied astronomy through astrology.)

Hi Robert. Been quietly reading lots of your wonderful articles. I have a question? Ha dies that even surprise you? Duh!!! Anyway, i have my natal north node at 23 d gemini right its within 2 degrees of my 11th house cusp right... Ok so does this affect my north node? Does have to be an exact conjunction? It oppose my natal juno in sag posited in my 5th too. Hmmmmm.

Hi Robert...
I have my Moon, Venus & Jupiter in Gemini (in the 1st & 12th house). So far from what i can tell of this transit, I've been sensing distance. I was struck by an interaction with my mother the other day that left me deflated, how she doesn't really care to interact with me, hurries the conversation and ends it before anything of meaning can come from it. It left me rejected. I tend to be attracted to suitors whom fall in line with how my mothers personality have affected me.
I recently just met someone who kind of reminds me of her, which is a red flag - but i want to explore it, i feel like these astrological events are testing me, but always leave me left with the short end of the stick.
What can I do? I really just want to find happiness in my life.
