This article covers significant aspects, degree symbols, and other important factors in this month's New Moon in Gemini. This one requires that we exteriorize some element of our individuality in a way that attracts what we would like to see appear. This time is entirely about clarity in who we are and what we’re externalizing.
This Lunation, along with the inner planets, stretches out the usual "anchoring" occupied span running between Pluto in Capricorn through Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Aries so that it now extends our experience into Gemini with 4 planets there with Mercury already in Cancer. With Saturn in Libra and Mars in Virgo, this gives a very wide spread to the chart since it involves 7 signs all widely spread apart.
This "Splay" Jones Patterns indicates a widely spread out experience, with many strong involvements in areas that may not have that much in common. The tripod of the pattern involves the 5 planets in Air signs, opening us to discoveries and new communications. As Venus retrograde leads this Lunation, it makes the area in our charts where we have Gemini of extra importance, since this promises a pleasant, beautiful, and/or balanced elegance to what we’re discovering through this Gemini New Moon.
So wherever we have Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, Pisces, and Aries in our charts is active, with Gemini the crowded sector due to the presence of 4 planets, two of them straddling the South Node. The general theme is that we are opening to gifts and inner powers and blessings to the degree we can take aim and hit the target of our intention. This is a time to open to new discoveries that will externalize very soon, buoyed by Jupiter in Gemini opening new perspectives by the minute.
Remember that in reading a Lunation chart (as well as a horary, inceptional, electional, or any event chart) the forming aspects show things to come, while separating aspects show things already past. This New Moon makes no forming aspects, indicating a somewhat disconnected time where most of what we’re externalizing has already been revealed in the past.
That said, of course there are important forming aspects made by other planets. These include Mercury, ruler of the Lunation, semisquare to Venus, sextile Mars, septile Jupiter, and square Saturn. Other important planetary aspects include Venus conjunct Jupiter and square Neptune (which will never be exact due to Venus going direct before either of these takes place), sesquisquare Saturn, sextile Uranus and quincunx Pluto, Jupiter sextile Uranus square Neptune and biquintile Pluto, and the ever-present Uranus square Pluto.
Of these, Mercury sextile Mars, septile Jupiter and square Saturn, Venus sextile Uranus and quincunx Pluto, Jupiter square Neptune and Uranus square Pluto are the strongest and most prominent. Overall this indicates major productivity with some adjustments and sacrifices within a larger atmosphere of confusion, shifting direction and then shifting again, and a hard edged time that we cannot take personally.
So Mercury will build through Mars and release through Saturn. The trick is to be organized, disciplined, and take the initiative whenever we feel our minds are being limited by chains of mental slavery. This can help us go deeper into our spiritual rapport with others, and by just carrying things through to the end and not getting lost or trapped in narrow thinking and views we will find rewards for our courage, even if it seems we must yield to conquer.
I discussed the Mercury septile Jupiter in yesterday’s article, so please reference that article to see which zones are activated. That septile will put all of us at forks in the road of destiny wherever we have Cancer and Gemini, as well as the houses that have Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces on the cusp (along with any planets we have in those signs.) At least 1/3 of our lives will be thrown into some radical choices and changes, so be sensitive to how you feel around what you’re given from the invisible world.
A New Moon sets the seed forms for what the following 4 weeks will demonstrate. This Lunation falls at 29 Gemini. While I've given you a sense of this degree up to now, this is where we go into depth.
The symbol is “The first mockingbird in spring.” According to Rudhyar, this degree is one of “recapitulation of past opportunities at the threshold of a new cycle of experience,” and “realization of new potentialities.”
In the Astrological Mandala, he says this degree involves “the creative exuberance of the human soul in response to life renewals.” Here we can weave “collective material” and express it so that we demonstrate our virtuosity to our environment and our world.” He says it falls in the span of "Expansion,” and it’s the penultimate degree of the individual mental level of the scene of Exteriorization in the Act of Differentiation.
According to Dr. Jones, creator of the Sabian Symbols, the degree is one of how our “aesthetic experience” strengthens our core through our “skill in imitation.” Here our “aspiration becomes articulate far in advance of (our) self-refinement,” where the promise is made manifest in extraordinary achievements. This is an attempt at self-revelation which enhances our roles in everyday life.
He offers us the keyword of QUICKENING. He states that when operating in a positive manner, this degree is "consistent stimulation to others in all human affairs.”
So we enter a time of opening to new ways of externalizing our skills, knowledge, and aspiration, and through and through Venus retrograde we'll continue to get new insights into what we like, why we like it, and why we liked other things and people in the past. We may get insights into previous difficult situations, allowing to correct our aim, use intensity to better advantage, and repair something that went off track through vagueness or a lack of clarity in some ways.
Of the planets that rule signs, there are 1 planet in Fire signs, 2 in Earth, 5 in Air, and 2 in Water. This preponderance of Air indicates a focus on ideas and relationships, with some solid and stabilizing interactions. With only Uranus in Fire, find inspired ways to demonstrate your uniqueness, genius, or individuality, and use Mercury’s sensitivity in Cancer to help you move through Neptune in Pisces’ vast feelings that allow you to sense when you're in a psychic "traffic jam." These will be times when you're most confused and/or inspired.
Air and Earth are cool, Fire and Water are hot, so with 7 planets in Earth and Air signs, expect some very cool times, interactions, and ways of moving through practical affairs. Generate warm feelings where there are none, and you'll be expressing "the corrective force of Nature Herself."
Pluto in Capricorn continues to teach us deep lessons about practical, organized economy of energy and efficiency in sprouting seed forms of the new "laws of our lives" we can relax into. Be organized in finding and demonstrating ways to get beyond fear and radiate harmlessness and mature fellowship with Nature, whether your own, another's, or Nature Herself.
In the past months we've solidified new roles, new values, and new resources. We're now living some form of the new archetypal roles we began to live in 2009-2010, and can bring our higher and lower mind together in enjoyable rewarding ways of expressing what is and what could be.
The next 4 weeks is a time to open to new ways of viewing how to express knowledge that will benefit us in the present and future. Due to the effect of the very strong Gemini eclipse of June 2011, we are still being liberated from the ghosts of the past and letting go of burdens we no longer need to bear. Having found what we've been looking for and opened to new ways of doing our Being, we can be more natural in our search for deeper insights into meaning and processes as we reach out to new and more complex vistas of potential interactions. I've included links to those Eclipse articles.
As you know, last month we had another important Solar Eclipse that will open us to newer, deeper insights even as it shuts down even more of the Gemini areas of our lives. I’ve added links to those articles so you can check out how it continues the pattern of the 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse, and adds a new dimension of understanding what’s ending and why in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Jupiter in Gemini now allows us to open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new gifts from the invisible world. We can take the patience we’ve cultivated while Jupiter was in Taurus and open to alternative ways of understanding what’s opening for us over the next year. This allows us to see various ways to discover and adapt to our expanding vision so we can become more versatile in becoming part of the "corrective force of Nature Herself."
In practicing our unique individuality we can become the answer to some collective need, whether large or small. This is the time to welcome the gifts that are ours to receive that help us see how the process of discovery often involves not knowing before we get clear about how to act. Given the productivity between Venus, Jupiter and Uranus in this Lunation, this is a time to awaken to our uniqueness.
In previous weeks, we had chances to adjust our perspective and become more natural and joyous. Due to Venus being retrograde in last month’s Solar Eclipse in Gemini, during the time that Eclipse is in force we'll get more than one new look at old values, people, and experiences related to these as they impacted our past. This will lead to some melt-downs by late June and into July, helping us break free of lingering ghosts of old relationship patterns and how we could or could not communicate our likes and dislikes without getting deflected or scattered by others.
The guiding force in that Eclipse indicates that we are now growing into new games, new rules, new skills, and new cooperation. This will confirm some things, while opening new perspectives around self and subconsciousness. We are growing into new heart strengths, a new compassion, and a new wisdom that will dominate our lives a few months from now. Focus on capturing rewards that help you enjoy life to a greater extent, and don't worry about "limiting conditions," since it will result in a new strength, as well as repair something so that some final dues are paid and old karmas left behind.
That Eclipse will shut down old ideas, understandings, and interpretations that will open new doors of perception for the next 3 1/2 years. Keep growing into a larger view, a greater Truth, and a wider future while cultivating a sense of humor at divergences in opinion and perception.
This Lunation shows the need to see how mind and feelings impact each other. Lead with your feelings, then make decisions on the basis of those feeling ideas. Then get a new view through opening to new information and a new understanding.
So feel what must be felt, experience what must be experienced (even if it seems that the past is a bit too powerful given the present!) and then move into decisions and actions on the basis of those backward-looking feeling-insights. After you do what must be done, then find a new view, new information, and new understanding.
This will be a clarifying New Moon period, where we will see clearly what we’re being given in the way of gifts, new ways to externalize our unique “song of life,” and new ways of being an individual in unique interactions with other unique individuals. Learn to concentrate to see the whole picture, let go of obsolete ideas and interpretations, and check out your expectations to see what of the past is coming to fruition, and what of the past needs a new view.
This time is one of training, resoluteness, and patience, applied in a practical manner to pull together things that up to now have appeared to be unrelated. Expect opportunities to integrate your personality through your feelings, and see your expectations as echoes of the past. This may be good or bad depending on where your head and heart are at.
So despite things being spread out all over the map, we can still achieve a great clarity and effectiveness during the next 4 weeks. We can heal into a greater mastery, a greater compassion, and a greater ability to see things from multiple angles of understanding, and express it with precision, discipline, and efficiency to the degree that we attune to the invisible world and the helpers we have there.
Whatever has been scattered up to now, weave it all together to demonstrate your skill and virtuosity in expressing your unique song within the greater whole. This is a threshold in which we get one last look back, and from here we move into the unknown.
Take a broad view, don’t get stuck in narrow or rigid interpretations, and examine why you feel the expectations you do. This is the darkness before the dawn, so share what you can as you go “back to the future.”

Hi Marci - Stay in touch, since I visit Austin a few times a year, sometimes to do a talk or workshop. Happy trails (but it is hot this time of year!)

Hoo boy: examine why you feel the expectations you do! You've really got me thinking. Thanks.

I missed that Reefaround me. Thanks for the pointer. It is a good one to face. I get lazy and just want things and people to be as "they should be" sometimes.

Robert. Inspired! I might get the chance to move somewhere where there are no water works connected to house. The owner said you have carte blanche and I am thinking here is a chance to take a lityle property and turn it into an eco house eco toilet, i was thinking covering the place in solar panels. I mean why not! The compost can be used for a garden. I can use old futons and staple them to boards of recycled wood to make movable panels for soundproofing for music playing. I have a piano and would be able to play at my hearts content. Nevermind the skys the limit. This would be my vift to my beautiful Jaoan and Japanese people and i would learn so much. So please cross your fingers, your toes, legs and arms. I reallly want to prove to people tgey don't need tepco and nuclear power!!!! Wish me luck and pray

Always a supportive read. You are a rare astrologer/faith teacher in that I can get something from your writings usually without the BS I muddled through (& out) of others' thoughts. Time for an endless summer! ;)
